i stopped by broadway hardware and paint in astoria to grab a few paint brushes , small can of paint and some advice of what else i needed to complete a simple job in one of my empty rental apt. its not lowes or home depot but in its small space they have basically everything you need and better advice . i was able to paint the entrance door and fill a few cracks in the hallway in less then an hour and it was cheaper then i expected. good family neighborhood hardware shop in the heart of astoria that will see me again when opportunity calls. read more

If you wanna feel like a criminal, walk right on in here. I walked in here to get a hand full of bolts which cost .22c each. The entire time as I am trying to find the right set of bolts, the owners stocked every move I made as if I was going to steal .22c bolts. Lady, if you are reading this. I needed 8 bolts. That comes out to $1.76. I can't buy a pizza slice in Astoria for that much. Relax. Customers come to buy from you. If you don't trust your customers, close up shop so someone more trusting of the community can move in. Rediculous. read more

I stopped by here for the first time today with a dream - painting an old piece of furniture. Have I ever painted furniture before? No. But I decided to seize the day. The store is adhering to NYS COVID reopening guidelines and is only allowing one customer in the store at a time. This was really reassuring to see. I waited outside, and once it was my turn I explained to the guy what I was looking for, and he was VERY helpful considering the fact that I wasn't even sure what I needed. He quickly showed me my options, helped me pick out paint/supplies, and sent me on my way. Everything was reasonably priced, and the woman behind the counter was extremely nice as well. This easily could have been a stressful experience, considering I wasn't 100% sure what supplies I needed and that there is currently a global pandemic. Broadway Hardware is an absolutely great local, family-run hardware store. I'm pretty skeptical about the 1-star reviews on here; something tells me that the people calling the folks there "rude" in their reviews probably aren't very nice themselves. I've been in a couple of times since moving to the area, and they're always super knowledgeable and helpful. If you go in with clear information on what you need, they can find it for you! I bought a monitor mount and found that the screws it came with were too long. I brought the mount piece, the monitor, and the screws into the store, and one of the employees knew exactly what size to get, picked them out, and brought them to the register for me. He did a bunch of checking and double checking to make sure that all four screws he grabbed were the right length, and that I got my original screws back. This is a great mom and pop style hardware store. They are cheaper than the big box stores, and the sales associates are knowledgeable and helpful. I've gone in their a bunch of times, usually with some odball requests for plumbing or electrical fixtures, and the person helping me always gets me what I need while being very patient listening to me describe stuff because I don't really know what parts are called. They've also been very great during covid about masks and gloves, and not letting too many people in the store at once. I'll shop here over a big box hardware store any day of the week and am happy to give them my business. read more

This is a solid neighborhood hardware store and a great (and much closer to me!) alternative to Home Depot. They're following a strict COVID protocol of only allowing 1-2 customers in the store at a time, which I really appreciated considering how small the store is and how narrow the aisles are. I came in search of some silicone-based caulk and a caulking gun, and the younger woman behind the counter was able to tell me precisely where both things I needed were without even looking. She also kindly pointed out that I'd accidentally grabbed two different colors of caulk when I got to the counter (whoops!) and when I said I would go grab the right color, the older woman employee offered to do it for me. The younger woman even showed me how to use the caulk gun after I checked out without me even asking, and let me know about their return policy when I expressed I was unsure about whether I would need two containers of caulk (spoiler: I did). I know others have mentioned finding the younger woman who works there rude, but that wasn't my experience. She was kind of short with a man who came into the store while I was there, but honestly in my opinion he was being difficult, so I can't fault her for that. Family run operation. Good people. Great advice on a DIY ceiling fan installation. Teddy took time in between customers to explain what I needed to do and look out for to get my project done successfully. Didn't try to upsell me on stuff I didn't need, but got me everything that I did need. Currently sitting in a nice ceiling fan cooled room thanks to his help. This hardware store is essential to my neighborhood. They provide great customer service and are knowledgeable about their products. Twice I have called ahead asking if they had what I needed in stock and both times they have: mattress disposal bags and today, ant traps. They are taking social distancing during COVID19 very seriously, so I feel safe shopping there. The woman at the front is down to business, personable, and helpful. Knowing this is here saves me from having to walk all the way to Home Depot. It also feels good to support a local business. read more

You're going to pay a bit more here than you will at other stores. It's part of small business life. However, you do get excellent customer service. It's a throwback hardware store - old, dusty, crammed to the gills with junk you need. However, it's also old school in the way you are treated. I've had a 10-minute conversation with an employee on the differences between a $2 picture hanging kit and a $4 kit. There was no rush to sale -- just solid explanations on benefits of one version over the other. Best of all, I don't have to take the train to Home Depot. This place is great! It serves all my home improvement needs without having to go to Home Depot (the nearest one being about 20 blocks and 2 avenues over). What's perfect is that they carry almost anything you'd need while keeping it local as well! That said, it's EXTREMELY cramped inside since they carry so much in such a small space. The staff are very knowledgeable (especially the awesome woman who is mostly at the register) and know where everything in the store is, so the aforementioned clutter is navigable! Just moved to Astoria, from BK, and spotted this store after getting off the subway. Went in and it was great. The woman upfront is knowledgable and funny (not "rude," "funny..." welcome to New York...). The guys are also great and helped me hunt down a few screws that I needed. They are a little bit more expensive for certain things when compared to the ".99 cent stores" located on Steinway, but, generally, those stores aren't hardware stores with knowledgable people; so who's complaining? I've gone back here at least four times since we moved in three weeks ago. Five stars because what else could you ask for from a hardware store that this place doesn't give you? Nothing, that's what. Little known fact bestowed upon me by my father, who is an Astoria native. This place is in the same location of a bakery that was owned by Christopher Walken's family. I've been coming here for the past seven years and have always found the young Korean-American guy particularly helpful and patient when attending to my queries because I have no man-savvy on hand at home. They have a great selection of paint and the Korean guy is really knowledgable in tints, shades and finishes. I've achieved great results on my own thanks to his expert advice. However in recent months the service has been hit and miss. The whole reason for my coming here is because I want Korean customer service; I don't want to be palmed off to some other guy who can't understand why I need (even when I bring the object into the store) and end up bringing home the wrong thing. That's annoying, oh and I don't get asked for ID on a $38 dollar purchase, but I do when buying a $3.18 paintbrush. Wth? Younger Korean-American girl attitude is poor/sarcastic. It's a few doors from my place, but I'd sooner walk to Home Depot and speak to an idiot than be frustrated with inconsistency and confused and bored looks from staff. read more

I work in Long Island City... There is nothing in Long Island City. I called 4 different hardware stores because I needed keys made. Strangely... All hardware stores in LIC are no longer open. Some places answered the phone only to inform me they aren't in business... (Why do you still answer the phone?)... Anyway.. This was the only place that answered AND still existed, so I trucked over. Great little hardware store. Stuffed to the gills with hardware things. My keys were cut quickly. Needed keys made for Medco lock and mailbox. Other local were not able to make. This Mom and Pop store was able to make the keys. Young register person could do a bit of customer service as she indicated Medco key blank was not available, but key maker was able to duplicate Medco key on non-Medco (large square blank) brand blank. Meanwhile, register clerk insisted couldn't duplicate even when I told her I was able to get duplicate a week before. Store provide choice of different levels of quality hardware and sells premium brand Benjamin Moore paints. They also sell latest technology Multi-T-Lock key cylinder lock for DIYer like myself, better than standard, less secured, pin and tumbler key type lock. read more

The store is small but densely-packed with everything one would ask of a hardware store. The prices are clearly marked and very reasonable. The owner who sit idly by at the cashier register was extremely rude when I needed assistance buying a new door knob. She was snobby when I asked her basic questions about different products for my room. She expected to me know the differences between products. I ended up buying the simplest doorknob and the item is DEFECTIVE. The doorknob doesn't lock. I know I installed it correctly as well because my father is a repairman/handy man. will cheat you on the prices , they sell and do not put taxes on my other company and my grandpas company , they sell the theroacoat higher on me just cause I'm young and they think I'm dumb. Bought a theroacoat bucket , it had no sand and just wasn't a good bucket , I asked them for a exchange. I just want another bucket , not asking for a refund .They said they can't do anything about. Find out a hour later , my grampa always exchanges and returns the bucket if it is no good. These guys are a bunch of cheaters and lost a 15+ years customers!
