This was my interaction: I call: it rings a while, someone picks up phone but hangs up. I call back and the business answers: "Hello?" me: "Hi, is this Pacific Lock and Key?" Guy: "What can I do for you?" me: "uhh, is this Pacific Lock and Key?" Guy: "Yes" me: "I'd like to get some home keys made and wondered if I need any appointment or how your business works?" Guy: "Why don't you stop on by." If I'm going to get some keys made, I would very much like some super-basic attempt to earn trust or act like a minimal professional. I know that keys only provide a fairly superficial level of physical security and can be bumped in seconds, but they could subtly make an impression or just take a picture of the keys I bring in and trivially make duplicates. I'm not going to go someplace that immediately gives me a negative feeling of trust by simply trying to verify that the phone number I called is the actual business or just ask a basic question about how they operate. Perhaps they are flooded with business, or perhaps there are shady people calling all the time trying to get a key duplicated that they shouldn't duplicate so he prefers to meet people in person. For one, I simply wish they would post their hours at the business. I came in to have 4 separate key copies made. The guy was very stiff. Not very friendly. When he was done, 8 keys on the counter, I asked him to clarify, which were copied, which were original. He basically said you can look at the teeth on the key to tell them apart. My car has a transponder keys with a chip in them and I've lost (they were actually stolen) the only keys I have for it. After researching what needed to be done, reading several positive online reviews, I went to see pacific lock and key. I figured this guy would could do it. I went in there, asked about making a key without an original and the guy told me that the only option would be to go to the dealership. Which is contrary to everything I read online. He said he'd have to get access to the car, pull the locks and count the pins and manually make a new key. I'd be better off taking it towing it to a dealer. Dude just sounded like he didn't want to do it. Knowing that it was BS I called another locksmith I found on Google. The other guy I called came out that night, checked my ID, vehicle registration/VIN, and within about 15-20 minutes cut 2 new transponder keys for my car and programmed them. No tearing apart my steering column or counting pins. After verifying the vehicle was rightly mine he did it off my VIN number with a code he was sent directly from the manufacturer. I wandered in to see if I could have an extra key made for a cabinet and the friendly clerk greeted me and asked the number of keys to be made. When I told him one, he smiled and said that it could be done right away. I looked down at my phone for a moment and by the time I looked up, he stood in front of me with a brand new key....as if by magic! I can't say for sure that it was 15 seconds, it could have been 20, but that's the fastest I've ever seen a key made. The worn ignition key to my Honda ST1300 broke in half when visiting a friend. After calling several other locksmiths, they were honest in their assessment. I decided to try them anyway as they were one of the very few who didn't try to gouge me due to my situation. He spent at least 20 or 30 minutes working on it, even discarding the first two attempts when they did not meet his exacting requirements. He told me several times he couldn't guarantee it, and I didn't have the bike present. Even though he had gone through three blanks, and spent much more time than normal, he honored his original quote, which was better than everyone else. When I finally got back to the bike the key worked perfectly. I'll be returning to get more copies made, and will go there for any future related needs. In this era of global corporate greed it was heartwarming to receive a level of customer support that can only be matched. This place is so annoying! I needed new keys for my Toyota (the ones with the remote buttons) so I bought the blanks online and came here to have them cut. The woman says only her husband can cut those keys and "he is not here very much" Huh??? This is a key shop!! There is nothing special about these key blanks either, it is for a 19 year old Toyota! She then says to come back some other time when her husband is here or make an appointment. I ask when will he be at the shop? "I don't know maybe in the morning sometime" Okaayyyyy. Lets try something different so I ask to make an appointment, like she suggested. She then won't actually make an appointment and just says to come in the morning and "he might be here". OK, this was for RFID (transponder) key which are expensive and he suggested I get a "Chinese" after market one off the net for cheaper than OEM cost. I did but I got the more expensive better quality one. Took it to him and didn't want to cut it. Said cheap Chinese keys don't work, get US made one but I told him it was that the better quality US made one and was specifically for my modern and year. Waste of time and money, between the two, it now would have just been cheaper to get the OEM one from the manufacturer. Live and learn. read more

I recently locked myself out of the house and called this place because of the great reviews. Sure, the guy came out fast, which was awesome, but after quoting me 88 bucks over the phone, he said he would have to charge me double that because of the type of locks I had. Being the stubborn cheap skate that I am, I decided to take matters into my own hands and climb up my porch and through an upstairs window. I don't know why I didn't think of this before calling someone out... Once the guy learned his services weren't going to be needed, he said he had to charge me a "service and travel fee" of 48 bucks! (Um, he really racked up those miles traveling from Ballard. I live in Greenwood). I then told him I only had 35 dollars cash on me and asked him if he took credit cards, and guess what? He took the cash I had saying he couldn't take credit cards. I got seriously scammed. Be careful when using this place. Total JOKE!!! My wife lost the keys to the car while taking our two toddlers to the store. Call AAA he came out and worked on my car for about an hour. And consistently complained about how he has to spend so much money on some token system for his computer to put in the codes for the ignition. He told me my computer took two tokens which for some reason his computers turned off midway and now he wasted the tokens. He told me that he did not want to use any more tokens on my car and I should just have it towed to the dealer. Had it towed to a secured parking lot Had my keys next day aired out from my home in Los Angeles because we're visiting in Seattle. I went to start my car and it didn't start I contacted the dealership and told him what went on.. They advised me that they were 99% sure that the key guy decoded my ignition and would now need to recode. I contacted him directly and asked if he could come back and recode my car..told him I didn't mind paying but would prefer to have a discount due to my troubles of paying FedEx, taking a cab, not having my vehicle for two days. He then started complaining about his token system again and said for me to call AAA first. I waited and he never came! He said this was too much trouble for him and that maybe I should not have lost the keys in the first place. REALLY!!! How would you have a business if people didn't lose keys!!!! I'm sure this guy can do great work but the lack of customer service and ethics are completely upside down, I would advise you not to use this guy due to the lack of being a standup guy!!!!!! read more

Our business provides services for clients in their homes. Our client list is long. So, as you can imagine, we make a lot of copies. And, we need keys that work. Pacific Lock & Key does an outstanding job. We'll literally drive out of our way to copy keys there. And this is why. There's a good chance anyone who's copied a key has run into this problem. You go to use the copy; it doesn't work. I know it seems like making a dupe of a key would be a simple task. It's clearly a little more complicated, requiring a skilled touch. Some free advice. If your time matters to you, avoid making copies of keys at places such as Home Depot, Ace Hardware or Fred Meyer. They use those machines that cut the key automatically. Those machines are hit and miss. In my experience, it's a 50-50 chance the copy from Home Depot, Ace Hardware or Fred Meyer is going to work. (OK, I'll give those big stores the tilt and say their keys work, like, 60% of the time.) The point being, it's a giant time-suck having to go back and get a key cut a second time. Here's another reality I can share. No key place is going to cut a perfect key 100% of the time. We copy hundreds of keys a year. With that many copies, sooner or later, one's not going to work. We go to Pacific Lock & Key because we feel they are the most likely to get the job done right the first time. Super friendly people, too. They have been a pleasure to work with. read more

Got slapped with this company's service thanks to AAA. All the guy did was complain. I had a key broken off in the ignition thanks to a car thief trying to steal my car. He comes out and removes it. All while complaining. Then another thief breaks in a couple months later and the same thing happens. Short Story: on my lunchtime errands I broke off my car key in the door. So I walked across the parking lot at the Fred Meyer, told the lock man the make and model and asked what he could do. He started explaining very specific details about these particular locks... I explained that I was late for a meeting and he walked with me to see the car. He said I could pick it before 6 p.m.. The storage compartment on the back of my Vespa scooter would not unlock, leaving my helmet stuck inside.
