I've been coming to Broken Horn in Baldwin Park since I was a little kid, and I still have a picture sitting on that iconic horse from their old location. That alone carries so much nostalgia for me. Walking into the new spot definitely feels different. It's hard not to compare it to what it used to be. The old location always felt full, lively, and kind of like a staple in the community. This new space feels quieter and honestly a bit empty, which made me a little sad. I even noticed signs asking customers to come in and support, which makes me wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Price wise, I've always known Broken Horn to have occasional good sales, but overall it's usually not the best deal in town. I recently went in specifically looking for a pooper scooper they used to carry years ago because it was amazing and I genuinely wanted to support local instead of ordering on Amazon. Unfortunately, they didn't have it. The only similar option was plastic and priced the same as what I could get online, so it just didn't make sense. I ended up ordering from Amazon, which I honestly hated doing because I would've preferred to give them the business. That said, I'm still giving them an honorary five out of five purely because of the memories and what this place meant growing up in Baldwin Park. They still offer dog vaccines, which is a huge plus for the community and something I appreciate. I really hope they find their footing again and make whatever adjustments are needed to bring back that special feeling the old location had. Needed some cowboy-ish gear for a recent work shindig, so I decided to make the trek over here. Large, spacious store that's situated in a big shopping area. Lots of parking, so no worries there. Inside, everything is Western here, from the clothing to the boots, hats and buckles. Was worried I wouldn't find a contemporary, fashionable looking button up here, but they had A LOT of inventory to choose from. In fact, this store is loaded with gear. It's reasonably priced as well. All the big brands are here; they take their western stuff seriously. The store is clean, well organized, and the staff is helpful and friendly. First time here after finding this place online. They have such a large variety of items they sell. I specifically came here looking for 2 hats and it said they only had 1 left in stock. Unfortunately I wasn't able to locate the hat.. however although they were pretty busy they helped me look for the hat and they were able to locate it! They went above and beyond, they checked the hat displays, the backroom, and they even searched the sales floor. Making my day is an understatement. What a bummer. Drove over 30 miles here to get an old Stetson cleaned and reshaped, because they have several Instagram post boasting about their good hat shaper. Store opens a 10 am, got there at noon. Only to find out that the good hat shaper makes his own schedule and works when ever he feels like it, even the employees actually told me sometimes he doesn't even show. I live a few miles from a boot barn, could have saved me some gas and most importantly my time. You only get one chance at first impression and that made a bad one. I checked out some shirts and pants and I'll just say. Prices are not that cheap to say the least. read more

I'm sad about the recent closure. However, I guess we expected something to look forward to with the reopening at the new location. It's smaller, a lot smaller, and the selection of boots is not below average. But maybe in a few months the boot selection will improve. I hope so! They had a lot of cool clothing attire for kids and men. Not so much for women. But I will say the customer service is very good. To add we drove quite a ways to shop here but this was normal for us with the other location. But with the selection being what it is now, I wouldn't say it's worth the drive at this time. Sadly, the Broken Horn of old is gone. The new store is clean and organized. Has people waiting to help you. But it's mostly just boots and western clothes. Pretty much no tack, no supplements, no blankets, and nothing English. Which is a shame, they're missing out on being the only tack store for the whole area. I guess we were really spoiled by the old store. This new location simply does not compare. I wish it wouldn't have kept the same name. It wouldn't be so misleading. Hidden deep behind Kaiser Permanente,you could only see this store passing from the 10 freeway and kinda tricky snaking your way through the back. Looking at the outside of the store one would never guess how huge it is once you walk inside.Its like a riders convention crammed into this store,amazing. I'm talking wall to wall,two story rider heaven and if you don't partake in the past time,no worries they have plenty of cool things to check out.I got stuck at the entrance of the store for an hour checking out the military cutlery and tactical flashlights.The second floor has all the clothes,boots,hats,belts and accessories you can think of and the first floor has all the rest.I was so amazed that I'm thinking of taking up riding as a part time hobby,no joke peeps. I do not recommend broken horn saddlery for tack and saddle repairs. So I took my saddle to broken horn to get fixed and this is what I got back. I came in with a missing concho, asked that they find a piece similar to it or just replace all the conchos with new ones and I asked if they could get the saddle cleaned and oil. I'm not sure if the saddle guy is affiliated with broken horn or what. I was quoted between $80-$120 and that it would be done in a week. Well two weeks go by and no calls me for a heads up. So I show up and apparently my saddle is ready and I get charged for $120. So basically I payed $120 for one concho, no saddle oiled or cleaned and horrible service. Thanks read more

I was invited to a western themed event and am need of some nice cowboy boots for myself and my hubby. We came in on a Saturday and found the parking lot to be almost full. I was surprised given that I lived in Baldwin park for a few years and had never shopped here despite having seen the place off the freeway many times. This place is HUGE. The lady at the cashier was rude with an attitude when I walked in she was just staring and I said hi and she ignored me, their horse supplies are x2 the price of generation west and their "western" reins were ridiculously price for the cheapest material and Lowest quality I've seen priced at over $100 you can get great quality ones at generation for under $50 and the really good ones at tractor supply for $70 not $150+ for the cheapest reins out there. Amazon is way better than what they were offering and the straps for spurs were priced at $60 just go ahead and check out generation west or Amazon for any horse products you'll save a lot of money and better quality with business owners who actually acknowledge and appreciate their customers! read more

I visited the new location and fell in love with a beautiful BH consignment saddle that I just had to have. The ladies there were all very sweet and offered top notch customer service, specifically Eva and Marisol!!! They went above and beyond to accommodate me and I appreciate it very much! Funny story. For many years, I had 2 pairs of western boots. They were VERY similar, but I kept them both anyway. A while ago, I realized it was time to stop hoarding and decided to toss a pair. Good on me, yay! Then comes along an event where I need to wear my boots. Pulled them out of the closet just to realize I threw away 1 side of each pair of boots, and now no longer have a pair of matching boots. Lucky me...guess it's time for new boots! Went off to this store which I'd seen off the side of the freeway many times...didn't have very high hopes. Ended up finding a few pairs of boots I liked...along with a few shirts. Worst customer service ever ! My family and I will never be coming here again. After our large purchase I am very disappointed in wasting my time and money to come out here. Employee automatically assumed we were shipping our purchase to Mexico with out us mentioning anything which we aren't ? Very Racist and discriminatory !! We had a bad experience over all ! I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to write one for this business. My family and I have been making purchases with this store for over 20 years since their old location. I bought some boots for my dad that did not fit him and I know it took a while to go into the store to make an exchange, like everyone we have lives and have to take care of certain things. We went in to try and exchange them for a different size or model and pay the difference even tried to buy additional items so they can have sales and meet their goal for the day but they did not let us exchange. I work in retail and almost every time if the customer doesn't have the receipt and it's passed its days to exchange they let them do it with no problem. I found it surprising that they did not let us even after the fact that we would make a bigger purchase. They have a say in this things after all it's a small owned business that they make the decisions. What is one exchange past its days gonna cost them especially if we were willing to buy more items. read more

I have been coming here for over 30 years. They have expanded to provide so much more beyond horse tack and show clothes. The boot selection is vast. They now carry small animal feed and products as well. I brought in a new 10 year old rider to get her breeches and the sales associate was delighted to help. We had two year old twins that were full of energy and no one looked askance by kids being kids. This is a reflection of what a horse family is, everyone involved and working to make you happy. There are many price breaks in the tack and I was shocked to buy a new bridle for probably what I paid 15 years ago. Was here a month ago. I'm disabled (in a wheelchair) so i called ahead because i saw it was two stories. The lady that answered said she was sorry there was no elevators but they would gladly have one of there salesperson help me with everything. Sure enough they had a gentleman help me with everything. Dear Broken Horn, Some of your employees have a severe attitude problem. What should've been an easy outing for new boots turned anything but. My main complaint isn't even how three cashiers stood and stared at us in creepy silence as my husband and I walked in during the week--no hello or anything. Just blank, cold stares. Not sure why considering this is SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, but they were the ones acting like they don't know the English language. Please get with the times, dears. I said "Hello" to them and the one male cashier mustered a weak "hi." Ugh. Anyway... Onward. We were appalled at the BS called "customer service" from the overweight brunette working the women's boot section upstairs. She approached us and condescendingly asked if we needed help. I was already getting turned off at this point and just wanted to get the hell out of there, so I said I was looking for new boots. She asked if I was interested in a particular kind I'd never heard of, then after I said "Sure, I'll take a look," she made a huge stink about how they don't sell those there. Um. Lady. Then why did you even bring it up? For the thrill of barking the word "NO"? Sure seemed like it. I calmly informed her that that type of boot was not necessary (why would they be for regular lessons? any eq knows this). She then apathetically gestured to the wall of boots we were already looking at. Gee, thanks! So helpful ma'am! A few minutes later, she was being VERY helpful to a group of larger blonde women way down the row for size 11-12 feet, almost as if she doesn't like people with small feet lol. No one should judge someone based on their physical appearance, but that's what she clearly did. In all honesty, it's not like I vibed her for being way overweight if she actually rides--which I totally could have, haha. (But seriously, POOR HORSEY if she does ride, like my husband said.) A mean-spirited, overweight rider is not what any horse deserves on his/her back. Guess what her response was when I asked her a simple question about a pair of boots (they were mismatched): "Uh, do you even have a trainer?" ...Huh? Earth to bitter shoe saleswoman, I asked you a yes/no question about what you're selling here--BOOTS. Stick with what you (supposedly?) know. Tall order, I know.... She then turns to a man and starts speaking Spanish very thoroughly about a belt he was eyeing (yes, I know Spanish too). Every rider knows that your personal energy is very important to your horse's well being because it directly impacts both human and horse safety. It's places like these that make you worry about the animals who they make their money off of. It's places like these that are going obsolete because people would rather shop online due to unsavory, unprofessional employees. They don't have horses here of course (thank GOD), but they sure are a part of the system that wouldn't exist without sound animals. If they treat paying customers this way, I worry about their authentic intentions when it trickles down to the horses. As we all know, there's a lot of exploitation in the industry. I won't be back because I don't want to risk my horses to feel even an iota of this kind of negativity. I am going to have to say that I believe Broken Horn is the BEST tack store in Southern California. They have a great selection of products at awesome prices. They carry all of the big name brands. I purchased a Beval Natural saddle from there for $1500 when it retails for $2200. The saddle was brand new - no flaws at all. The guy just told me that they marked it down to get it sold. All of the saddles I saw there seemed to be marked down significantly less than retail price. It's like they are having a saddle sale every single day! From what I saw they carry Pessoa, Stubben, Barnsby, Bevel, Henri De Rivel, Bates, etc. Their saddle trial policy is 7 days which is definitely nice. Of course if you bring the saddle back it must be in like-new condition but that's the normal saddle trial policy. Riding 7 days in my Beval was enough time to know it fit my horse and I great. I also purchased a Charles Owen AYR8 for $285 when they retail for $348. This helmet was just released by CO and I haven't seen it on sale yet anywhere. The $285 price wasn't a sale price either, that's what they had the helmet listed as. Really crazy good deal! They have GPA's as well but I didn't pay too much attention to them because I really love the CO AYR8. These are just two purchases I have done and that alone is $763 in savings! I have also purchased tall boots, a girth, bridle and show clothes from Broken Horn and saved a lot more than I would anywhere else, including SmartPak.com. I live about an hour away from Broken Horn but it is definitely worth the drive. I wish I were closer or else I'd buy all my tack + feed from there but I guess that is a good thing for my bank account because then I'd probably be there daily. Since it's not so close I will do all my small shopping for horsey stuff at my local tack shops, and go to the Broken Horn for my spendy items because I know I will save a lot more money there than anywhere else. read more

First off, i'd just like to say the absolute overwhelming selection they have here. I almost cannot descrythe vast amount of Boots, Hats, Belts, Shirts, Saddles, Leather products, and riding gear. It's more than anyon customer could ask for. In my experience I came in looking for a Stetson Felt hat in Size 8. The gentlemen in the hat department was unbelievably helpful, i just wish i could remember his name, he was a little shorter than me with a goatee and speaks fluent spanish if that helps,anyway he was helping me locate the hat, explaining how it is made, the materials that went into it, etc. Furthermore, he helped me with steam shaping, and hard stretching the interior of this hat at no charge. And man, i cannot tell you how satisfied I am with my purchase. He also would make a pass around the store and check in with us as we were browsing boots and shirts, asking us what we are looking for, how the hat feels etc. Long story made relatively short i spend close to a thousand dollars at Broken Horn, when i only walked in looking for a Stetson Hat. I'm telling you people, this place is ABSOLUTELY worth your time. They carry sizes up to 4XL in some products, they have an absolute plethora of boots to choose from, you can even custom order products from the store. In closing, i would like to say i'll gladly make the hour and a half drive back here to continue purchasing quality products from what seems to be one of the best customer experience i've ever had.
