I ordered the avocado toast, copy and pasted from their menu, "Thick sliced artisan grain bread lightly toasted and topped with fresh avocado, two poached eggs, and "everything but the bagel" seasoning". While waiting for our car to be examined at Horseman automotive my husband and I decided to grab a quick breakfast. We've been to the broken yolk in Mira Mesa and had a good experience there so we decided to try the Santee location. We were greeted quickly and sat. Our waitress was fantastic. We got there early enough for the early bird specials. I chose the biscuits and gravy meal. My husband chose the breakfast croissant sandwich. Our food came out very quickly and it tasted good. Recent visit to Broken Yolk went smoothly as we joined the wait list through Yelp on the way there. By the time we found a parking spot and started walking towards the restaurant, we received a text that our table was ready. I ordered the Mom Omelette and added the patty sausage. The Mom omelette was tasty but it just had too much onion and tomato for me. I was hoping more spinach would be in it. I'll request that next time and maybe they can accommodate? My husband ordered the meat lover's skillet and said it was delicious as well but wished the portion size was bigger so he requested to add chorizo to it. The service needs to be improved. My service was horrible especially on My Birthday I was expecting a lot more from my server. She ignored us through our whole meal didn't even bother asking us if we needed anything I had to speak to a different server to get my items I needed and I got my items within minutes I ask for them. Bad experience especially on the new year honestly I don't know if I am planning on going back any time soon and there was no apologies from my server. Now this is the next day After My Review management answer back a few hours later and apologized on the service and told me that they don't want to lose me as a customer due to short staff. So they gave me a complementary gift for the bad service that was served to me. This is a type of restaurant I will come to because you barely see that in restaurants they don't care for there customers I am glad that management text back. We visited The Broken Yolk Café at the Santee Trolley Station for the first time in years. My son hadn't been there since he was a baby, so we were looking forward to it. When we arrived, we stood at the host stand for about five minutes without being acknowledged and almost left. Eventually, we were seated. Once seated, I will say the service afterward was good--our server was attentive and kind. My son enjoyed his club sandwich and had no complaints. Unfortunately, my chicken sandwich was not good. It had an excessive amount of sauce--so much that I honestly couldn't eat it. At $18, that was disappointing. I didn't want the food to go to waste, so I chose to give it to someone in need. When I mentioned the issue later, the manager said it could have been remade if I had said something earlier, but at that point it was "too late." She did offer a coupon for a waffle and mentioned they're very good, which I appreciated--but overall, the experience left me unsatisfied. This was just our experience. The service was good, but the food did not meet expectations, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

Visited Broken Yolk yesterday after running some morning errands. Wait time wasn't too long around 30min. This location is surrounded by other stores/ target so we took the time to walk around for a little bit. Before we knew it it was time to head back. Just felt like breakfast today so I ventured into the Broken Yolk. I'd say it's all ok, certainly not stellar. I got the classic Benedict which had decent flavors however, the ham was much thicker than I like and the hollandaise was on the edge of breaking. I understand eggs Benedict is a difficult dish to master, but I just kind of expected a little more from a renowned brunch place. I will say the eggs were cooked perfectly. My hashbrowns, sausage, and omelet arrived lukewarm (if not cooler), with the biscuit being the only item served hot. Since the restaurant was busy, I decided to go ahead and eat my meal.
