Went to this location for the first time 2 weeks ago. While the server was very friendly, the drinks weren't the best. We got the Bloody Mary flight and we were all disappointed in it. This is a newer brunch location in Santee and inside the shopping center so there is alot of parking. On the weekends, this place can get really busy. Today I went on a Friday morning and did not have a wait. Inside, the place is really cute and you would never expect it to be in Santee. It gives Hillcrest and North Park vibes. As much as I was hoping to love the place, the food is meh. My mom ordered the mom omelette and I ordered the chicken and waffles. Both were very bland. The chicken and waffles was just chicken strips on a bland, not crispy waffle. And some powdered sugar. My mom liked the omelette but she said nothing in particular stood out. Her toast was soggy because of how much butter was on it. I also ordered a drink and they didn't bring it so I just thought it's okay they forgot it, I won't be charged. The server then drops the check with the drink on it. Of course they were apologetic, but if I get a drink to go because they forgot to give it to me while I'm there, I'd expect them to take it off the check. Nope. I paid for it and it wasn't even that good. I will say though the staff is very kind and friendly! read more

The first compliment that comes to my head whenever I think of Broken Yolk Cafe is: Consistency. They have consistently delicious food, constantly amazing service, and a continuously delightful atmosphere. I've always thought they have just the right amount of options. There is a little bit of everything, but not do much of anything to where you are overwhelmed while trying to select a meal. A specific shoutout to this location because it is our home location and we are always treated like family here. A huge thank you and shoutout to our server Kathy, she was very welcoming and sweet, and presented us with plenty of options for our baby, and thank you to Billy "the lead busboy", he's a great conversation if you get a chance and an amazing example to his people. Wonderful experience today! Busy Sunday at 1:30pm. Greeted warmly by the cashier/hostess & seated within 7 minutes. Maria was our server and was very helpful in selecting the best omelette at the right price for Mom. She cheerfully customized the omelette to Mom's requests. Mom said it was DELICIOUS! Maria was attentive & delightful. Our orders were accurate & served hot. The chicken fried steak was cooked throughout with light breading & my poached eggs were medium, just as I prefer. Billy & Roy stopped by to check on my Mom & me. Billy refilled our coffee & hunted strawberry jam for my rye toast. Roy was glad to hear the service & food were excellent. Stopped by the Broken Yolk in Santee for breakfast and had a great experience thanks to my server, Anthony. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything came out just the way I ordered it. I got the American Breakfast with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sourdough toast, and golden hash browns -- everything was hot, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The bacon had that perfect crunch, and the hash browns were crispy all the way through. He kept the coffee coming and checked in at all the right times without stopping by too often. 2/17/24- I did the yelp wait list for 10-20 minutes for arrival at 8:30am. I arrived and it was dead inside. It was busier after 9am. We ordered a lemon pancake and we had a free waffle deal. No issues. Everything was good. Waitress was nice but as soon as the food was dropped off she comes by and ask how everything is. It was literally about 10 seconds later. We hadn't even tried the food yet. As soon as our plates were done, we get the bill. We didn't ask for the bill. Probably to get us out for new guests. We were planning on ordering a few light stuff but decided not to. 3 stars total for rushing to get us the bill. I deducted 2 stars. About 1.5 years ago I had a similar experience with a person serving by rushing the bill to us. read more

I've been to numerous BY locations in SD. This is one of the better ones. The service was great (can't say that for all of their locations). There was a wait to get in (20 minutes or so) as it was a busy and rainy Saturday morning. However the food was great and they had a mimosa flight that was excellent. The classic French Toast was delicious. The table I sat in was a bit cramped and it felt like the restaurant itself crammed in quite a few tables to maximize how many customers could sit inside. Great service! Delicious food! Huge portions! Amazing unique options! Would definitely go again! They sat us right away even during a busy holiday weekday. They were friendly and gave us the seat we wanted. The menu was a physical menu, which my husband prefers, I don't mind QR codes, but he sure appreciated that. They had a delicious gingerbread latte for Christmas time. My husband and I ordered two entrees and a side of bacon and one lemon ricotta pancake. Everything was so delicious and we were amazed how fast they took our order and got the food out. If that wasn't enough the owner came and greeted us, as well as all the other tables, and said hello. He said they had only been open for 3 months, which is quite amazing because most restaurants when they first open struggle to have fast service.
