They have such an extensive menu, and though others may not like it, I think it's good so that you're not forced to just choose something you might not really like. Service was on point. My usual go to, the corned beef hash was clearly out of a can and not worth $15. The portions are large, but the quality of the food is just not worth it. Boy has this Broken Yolk changed! The service was excellent (water glass always full!)....that said the food was ... meh. I had a spicy breakfast bowl, and there were soooo many jalapeños it overwhelmed the entire meal (also, the menu said Serrano peppers, not jalapeños). The potatoes were completely undercooked--in fact they were crunchy . The only good part of the meal was the service and the pancakes. Doubt we'll ever be back. Sat at the counter on a busy Saturday morning. I was flying solo as this is my 'norm' now. Eggs Benedict is also my standard breakfast item to try and this place offers a variety of styles for any guest. I ordered the Sope with Chorizo it wasn't bad. My server was slammed I think but she did her best to keep an eye on me. The parking lot was packed but I parked over behind the location near Aaron Bros. it was fine. TERRIBLE SERVICE and SUBPAR FOOD! So so many issues...and this is the norm I am sure. Waited 45 min to sit. Once sat, was ignored for 20 min before the busboy asked if we had our drinks. So he took that order. Mocha tastes like watery packet hot cocoa...just junk! The server took two tables that showed up after us first. So we are in 20 min before our order was even taken. It took ONE HOUR to get our breakfast. The thing that is the kicker is the food. Crepes were thick and COLD. Eggs were dry, not over easy. Just a basic meal and it was terrible. Overpriced for what you get and just crappy food. I will never return and will surely tell others to pass this place on by. Instead of the Broken Yolk, I call this the Broken Joke! read more

This is only the second time we have been to a BYC restaurant, I wasn't particularly impressed with the food at the San Diego location, but we were in the area so decided to give it another go. We were seated almost immediately, there was no one ahead of us and two stars only because the service was outstanding. The workers are very friendly, quick and attentive which is a huge plus. Hubby and I both ordered the NY steak and eggs and while we know it's not a steakhouse, our steaks looked like pounded out dog food. Although we ordered the same meal, we also ordered completely different sides and they managed to somehow switch our steaks. I had his well done on my plate while he had my medium rare. Half the steak was gristle too which for $17 a plate is just not worth it at all. Again, not impressed with the food, I guess the location doesn't seem to matter. The kicker was we checked in via Yelp to take advantage of the 10% off and he didn't realize until we got to the car that our total was still the same. I checked our bank account to verify and sure enough we did not get the discount. Very sad as he generously tipped over 20% too. read more

This is how it went down at BROKEN YOLK RESTAURANT asked for booth table that was 2 inches away and the manager's face wasn't happy CLEARLY BOTHERED for some unknown reason..THEN placed 2 order waited 25mins and here comes my food one is COLD as ICE and the other plate was on the way on getting COLD.. let little ROBERT my waiter know it's cold which I no longer wanted at that point.. then we went to let the SUPER restaurant manager know of our service her attitude was very "I don't care" and even seemed to be annoyed with us and wanted nothing to do with us. She SARCASTICALLY said "WELL WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO TAKE EVERYTHING OFF THE TAB?!" EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! As we were leaving the premises little ROBERT (the waiter) comes out acting tough and puffing his small chest and began to shout at us "DONT COME BACK HERE" TO THE POINT HIS COWORKER HAD TO RESTRAIN HIM FROM COMING AT US because he was acting like a little maniac. ...In between this the infamous MANAGER never showed ONCE her face as her employee LITTLE ROBERT-WAITER was yelling at a customer OUTSIDE IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS WAITING TO BE SEATED! another employee in the middle of this commotion was apologizing to us knowing what is happening is extremely wrong! I've been coming here for years and unfortunately this place is on the downward. Food is hit or miss... the benedicts have always been good but the veggies in the omelets are always too undercooked to be shoved in an omelette. Wait time... and I don't mean the wait to be seated... has been worsening. In the past few months, I've been here at 730am on a Tuesday, 9am on a Friday and 10am on a Saturday and each time I've had a long wait to order, a decent wait to get the food and a looooongg wait to get the bill. Last time we waited over 15 minutes to get the check. The servers are nice but my water sits there empty with no refill and no server in sight. Given the consistency in my observations in coming on different days/times, I don't know if it's a server issue or if the servers are being overseated and are overwhelmed in general.
