Had a random Mediterranean craving and ended up at Cali Kabob next to Pechanga (meaning parking is plenty) zero regrets, minor chaos. The place looked like it lost a small battle with a lunch rush (probably short-staffed), but honestly... I came for food, not interior design. Ordered the beef & chicken shawarma combo like I meant business, and my son went with the chicken kabob. The basmati rice showed up fluffy and flavorful like it had something to prove. The chicken kabob had that smoky, "I was grilled with love" vibe, and the beef shawarma was so tender it basically melted before I could fully commit to chewing. Then came the baklava. Apparently homemade by the owner's mom, and yeah... you can taste the difference. Not drowning in syrup, not trying too hard.... just sweet, flaky perfection doing its thing teaming up w ground pistachios being delicious!! Stopped by Cali Kabob and had a great experience. We ordered the beef shawarma and a gyro wrap and both were really flavorful and fresh. The food was excellent, but what made it even more memorable was the service. Fadi was so kind and even made a little plate for our dog, Ginger, which was such a thoughtful touch. Three years ago, this location used to be Rival Coffee then the Steak n Shake chain briefly took over and now it's the family-owned Cali Kabob...hopefully they NEVER leave!! Upon entering, we were greeted and headed to the counter to place our orders. I opted for the falafel plate which included- rice, salad, a piece pita bread, 5 huge falafels and your choice of hummus or fries, I chose French fries. After ordering/paying, we sat ourselves and our food was delivered to our table. Everything is made to order and so good! The pita bread was warm and pillowy, the falafels were perfectly seasoned, the salad was refreshing and their garlic spread was so creamy and powerful it stayed with you the rest of the day lol Yummy! Wow, it was great! Never been a fan of Mediterranean restaurants before today; this was the best I've had. The meat was juicy and flavorful, the jasmine rice was great. The pita bread and hummus were very tasty. The spicy garlic wings were very good and not too spicy. Even the salted caramel milkshake was much more flavorful than any other I've tried. 1st time here, after ordering noticed how filthy the bathroom floor was as I walked in and my shoes were sticking to the floor, it was apparent it had not been mopped in a REALLY long time. Have seen cleaner gas station restrooms. Came out and started looking into the kitchen and could see that too had not had a deep clean in a long time, if ever. Grease buildup on the walls, crud all over the floor under the grill and other hard to reach but visible places. While the dinning room appeared to be "clean" at first glance, it was also apparent it had been swept but not mopped in in who knows how long. I've been meaning to come here for years. Food was great and while it's expensive.... Well everything is expensive these days so I guess the price is reasonable in today's standards. My teenager who is very picky really enjoyed it too so it's a great sign. The wait can be a little long if they're busy so order ahead especially if you're not planning on dinning inside. Was here not too long ago for a meeting for one of the sports my daughter is involved in. Its located in the little strip mall area by Pechanga where it used to be the old Steak N Shake location. During my visit, I ordered their Beef Shawarma plate which includes a small salad, rice and the choice is either hummus, fries or Baba Ghanoush. We have never tried Baba Ghanoush so decided to check that out as a side. Service was great from the time of ordering all the way to the time of having it delivered to the tables were were at. The plate was a good size. The beef shwarma meat was flavorful with the seasonings the put on it and the rice was just as good. The salad had red onion, cucumbers and tomato which went well with the shwarma meal. I can say although the Baba Ghanoush wasn't really my cup of tea, at least I tried it and will next time to for the hummus. While we were there, my daughter ordered a peach milkshake and it was simply divine. It was nice, creamy and peachy. Just the right amount of sweet where it wasn't too sweet. The dining area is large with plenty of tables and even great for a big group. Everything was clean and well taken care of. Writing this review because Cali Kabob is one of if not my favorite shawarma restaurant in the area! Both the chicken and beef are delicious and they have a great selection of sauces- tzatziki, garlic, spicy, and tahini. We've had both plates and wraps and you can't go wrong either way. Their seating area is pleasant and clean, and they also have great family platters and a drive thru, which is so cool if you're on the go. They have a large menu of Mediterranean foods, salads, burgers, wraps, fries, and platters. I got their shawarma mix ($15.99) which is sliced pieces of beef and chicken on a pile of rice with a side of salad and hummus. The portions were large and the meat was well seasoned with a piece of warm pita bread. The salad was crispy with chopped tomatoes, cucumber, and sliced red onions. Heading over to the Pechanga and have been wanting to try this place. Stopped in on a Saturday night. Not too busy. It's interesting that you walk up and use screens to order your food. They do bring it out to you once it's ready if you're eating in. I ordered the chicken schwarma plate and got the hummus as my side. The plate comes with a generous portion of salad also and a super fresh piece of pita. Everything was super flavorful and fresh. Loved the chicken. I wish the portion of chicken was a little more in proportion to everything else. My husband said the same about his beef kabob. Little skimpy on the meats. The menu has a lot of variety and I'd like to try one of the smoothies or shakes as they seemed to be a pretty popular thing people were ordering. We sat at the counter by the window. The chairs are metal and kind of uncomfortable for any length of time. But that didn't stop us from sitting and chatting for a while. The gal that brought us our food was pleasant. I've seen some of the comments about slow food time but we waiting 12 minutes for our food which I think is great for a Saturday night. As someone who loves gyros and has had them from every type of gyro shop there is, this was by far the worst I have ever had. If you look at the picture you can see, whatever the pita or wrap was fell apart in my hands the moment I picked it up. Very thin, I am not sure what this was even supposed to be. Beyond that, the small amount of lamb was sad. The only thing that makes sense is there was no one in the restaurant and there is a reason why. The only redeeming quality was they have a solid lineup of beers on tap for I think 7.60, but beyond that I would say please have someone do a quality check. I visited this location after searching for somewhere to eat in Temecula while running errands. Although the young workers were kind and efficient, I was disappointed by the overall cleanliness and food quality. The front entrance door was greasy and covered with fingerprints, which was not a great first impression. When I went to the ladies' restroom to wash my hands, the stalls were dirty and unkempt. I also noticed one of the employees go outside to get towels or napkins and return without washing her hands before preparing food, which raised some hygiene concerns. As for the food, my gyro pita only had about three small pieces of meat--mostly salad and pita bread. My daughter also found the yellow rice bland and lacking flavor.
