The Steffi community is truly a family. My sisters and I all danced here and have made friendships that have lasted far beyond our high school years. While some who train here go on to a professional dance career, others have continued to find the joy of dance in all aspects of their life. We were able to work with choreographers like Patrick Corbin, Sidra Bell, Peter Pucci, Nancy Lushington, Michael Foley, Annmaria Mazzini, Sabatino Verlezza and Pam Tanowitz. We were able to perform as young girls in the outstanding SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Center, and other prominent venues in NYC. Steffi Nossen's studios are beautiful and centrally located in White Plains. In addition to Modern training, Steffi Nossen has incredible ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tap classes as well. I began at SNS at age 3, and I know many others who spent their childhood years here too. Without a doubt this school is unique and special. It's not just the best school in Westchester, Steffi Nossen also boasts a thriving foundation that seeks to bring dance to all people - regardless of personal circumstance. Their Moving Wheels and Heels program features adaptive dance for both stand up and wheelchair dancers. As a student at the school, I was able to work with this program. As a young woman, being able to not just hone my own technique, but also give back in such a fundamental way, was truly remarkable. I realize that the owner was not friendly and did not have a pleasant demeanor. It is sad when a BLACK business that carters to BLACK people would have such unprofessionalism. From the first rehearsal she can home with such an enthusiasm for the music, plot, story and characters. The whole house lit up in the evening with the sounds of "I'm a Believer", "Story of My Life" and "I Think I Got You Beat" to name a few favorites. Every minute of every rehearsal was spent learning intricate choreography, staging, belting tunes and growing in skills. As a mom, my favorite part to hear about was the feedback she would receive in the rounding out meeting at the end of each rehearsal. She would often get feedback on what she was doing that made the production team proud or a share about how she was a role model, she would get positive feedback from other kids with accolades about what they wanted to celebrate of each other, she would give herself feedback publicly about motivating personal growth moments and she would receive feedback about what she could refine in a positive and supportive way to help her to grown into the best version of herself. This grounded her in confidence and helped her grown in both her vocal skills and acting skills. Not only did she shine on stage under the leadership of the most gifted and talented production staff, she also developed as an actress and singer with their guidance as well. Socially, the friendships she made have been lifelong and across age cohorts because that is the environment that has been created, one of acceptance, safety, celebration and belonging. Every time my child performs in another Open Arts Alliance production, I think I couldn't love the show more than the previous one, they could possibly top the last set design, the costumes and makeup and they couldn't replace the songs from the last production I have been singing and reminiscing about. Yet, every time I am in awe of how the talent and team continue to raise the bar with new technology, trickier choreography, well thought out casting and attention to intricate details. As an audience member, Shrek reminded me so much of the story and movie I had grown up loving. I found myself wanting to sing along, I felt all the emotions of the characters and I was transported to another time and place. This last season, and every season before, are the reasons we are so committed to the program. My child continues to thrive here and build a love of theater with every new production and we look forward to all the upcoming seasons that will encompass the brilliance of the power team!

My personal background in swimming includes years of swimming competitions and life guarding when I was a teenager and I am thoroughly impressed with the effectiveness of the SafeSplash Swim School pedagogy, the hands-on approach used to train new swimmers, and the affordability. My daughter was scared to jump into the pool on her own, even with an instructor waiting to catch her, when she was five years old and first starting a thirty minute once-a-week group lesson. After consistently attending those classes, she is now seven years old and able to swim twenty five meter lengths back-and-forth, alternating between freestyle and backstroke, and continues to attend classes as she moves up through the pedagogical levels.
