Holy moly! This place is freaken amazing! First of all the lady that runs the place is sooooooo helpful and friendly. Secondly, their pie is the closest thing you can get to a real Aussie meat pie. I had the roasted lamb, chunky beef, and chicken bacon. I would rank them in that order. But honestly all of them if equally delicious and you can't go wrong. Their crust is so crispy and buttery. The filling is juicy and tender. I don't know how they pulled it off where the crust is crispy and the insides isn't dry. I also had their sweet potatoes chips and let me tell you it's not the typical chips you would think of. It's real sweet potatoes chunks that is fried to perfection. Okay, so I grew up eating steak and kidney pies, cheese pies, sausage rolls--and have always heard of Australian meat pies. Happy to say that they sure lived up to the hype--I've been craving these for so long, and this place was very good!!! The crust--just the right flakiness. The filling (I had the minced meat pie) was just the right balance of savory with a hint of tomato-y sauce. Not dry, not too wet, just right. Also had the lamington with a flat white--very sweet and very strong--a good balance. I think I'll pass on this next time and go for more PIE!!! Just for parking: you'll have to keep a keen eye for open spaces, and within the block up and down, there are metered spaces. So, you might have to hoof it for a block or two. Will I be back? Writing a Yelp review and giving 5 stars is awfully deserved by Bronzed Aussie. If I weren't busy enjoying these delicious meat pies and then falling into a food-coma afterwards, I might have written this review sooner! I first visited because of the ever-alluring idea of a meat pie, and was astonished by how crisp and fresh the dough was. In addition, blown away I was by how much meat was packed inside - most meat/pot pies usually are lacking in that category, always more bread than meat - but not these hefty babies! Bronzed Aussie hits the right spot, even if you get it to-go. I've had ground beef and peppered steak both hot fresh from their ovens and also hot and tasty from mine. Follow their directions for preparation, and the meat pies that they have for take home don't lose out on any size or flavor, even after almost a week in the freezer. Oh yeah! I was so worked up about how amazing my lunch was today, I forgot to mention how friendly the staff is. I've seen a couple different people, and each one of them had a smile and a meat pie for me. We tried the lamb pie, Thai chicken pie, chips, blueberry pie, and custard tart. All were excellent, but my favorite was the custard tart. Soo good! Just be prepared to feel very full. This is very rich food. The staff were very friendly, the food was wonderful, and the tiny restaurant was clean and inviting. We will return. Tip: if you can't find street parking, the 600 blk of Los Angeles street has a rooftop pay lot that is advertising a $4. all day rate. Enter through an alley type driveway. One pie is enough to make you full but it's so good I always get two and save the second half for later. The pies are flacks crispy on the outside and soft and warm in the inside. This was my second time here and every pie is always fresh as warm. We ordered the lamb, original ground beef and Thai chicken curry. All delicious. My favorites are the original ground beef and steak pepper beef from the first time I ordered here. They also gave us a sample of mashed potato with gravely which was delicious too. Honestly everything was too good even the desserts are to die for!! It feels like a home-cooked meal and delicacy from Australia. This was a fun one time experience but I won't rush back. I have actually been here twice. The first time I had the vegan tofu curry. It is very mild and the curry comes basically from a curry powder. Today I had the vegan ratatouille. I liked that better. The crust is delicious but the filling to crust ratio should have more filling. It is a tiny place with two counters for seating. You can also take home frozen pies. I've been here a few times and tried a few things now and everything is really tasty. The crust is delicious and doesn't distract from the equally delicious filling. I've had the Lamb pie, the Meat pie and the Veggie Brekkie pie. All delectable treats! I suggest a nice layer of sriracha sauce on the Veggie Brekkie to give it a little kick. As for price, I think the price point is right on. If I can get a filling breakfast or lunch downtown for under $10 I'm a happy camper. I can walk there so parking is a non issue. And the service is always with a smile. I would call ahead if you were looking for one thing in particular. I got in half hour after they opened and snagged the last two veggie breakfast pies. So of your coming from afar give them a ring and they will make what you want for you. But they have so many delicious options, getting something other than what your went in for might actually turn out to be a good thing! Went in with friends and well I was not impressed. The lamb pie is beyond dry, crust needs more egg wash or butter, not flaky nor buttery enough! Lemons curd is ok, but I must say, it's only because I'm a lemon lover that I give it an, eh! Now... (Drumroll please) the coffee!!! Oh the coffee, not as great as I was hoping, it did after all look pretty, but we all know fern art can be deceiving! i mean maybe it's the blend but my latte was a bit too bitter... Now, only true coffee folks will understand how it being too bitter means it's not very high quality. I'm a barista, and well when making a latte, the espresso is suppose to have a natural sweetness to it, and well my friends.. This latte was plain ol' bitter! You will find freshly baked meat and vegetarian pies and Australian desserts that are to die for! All savory pies can be a good sized meal as they are pretty rich and filling. My favourites are the lamb pie and minced meat pie. They are a no fail in my book as I never venture far from those options. I'm very much obsessed with the custard tart that I can practically eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I firmly believe this is a quality mom & pop shop that deserves much recognition for quality and creativity. Great for grab and go meals when you are too busy to wait for something delicious to eat on your lunch hour or good for an anytime snack. Eat a pie or two and support the Aussies! Ha! Like this place needs another 5 star Review. Nonetheless, they definitely deserve it. Picked up some pies for my boyfriend's birthday. He studied abroad in Australia for a while. He always told me how good the food was there and I really wanted to surprise him. Bronzed Aussie pretty much has a monopoly on the Australian cuisine so far, but man do they do it good! They not only offered to hold my order after hours just in case I couldn't get down there from work in time, but they completely set me up for an awesome time. I don't really know Australian food, so they picked me out a 3 course meal. My boyfriend told me I out did myself and we had the most amazing time eating incredible food. This is the best "Australian food" I have ever had, EVER! I ordered the Chicken, Bacon, Mushroom pie & it was pretty good. I was hesitant to order the traditional (chunky) meat pie because I had a bad experience with the frozen Scott's oven-baked kind when I was in Australia earlier this summer. Good thing that my guy still ordered it & suggested I try some... OH LAWD, that was the greatest most yum thing I had that afternoon! Oh, & I really wasn't about to put ketchup on it cuz it seemed kinda odd, but WOW, it only enhanced the flavor x100!! I highly recommend stopping by for a bite here. Very cute place inside or very close to Santee lofts. Not a convenient location to come to regularly but we were driving around on Sunday to visit the fashion district and flower Mart so we didn't mind walking here. Aussie decor and pleasant hospitality by who I assumed was the owner. We tried the ground beef and the chicken mushroom pies. Ground beef with ketchup tasted similar to a sloppy joe (in a nostalgic way) and the pie crust was flaky and delicious. Chicken mushroom was also quite tasty. I'm craving the pies right now. I had an after-work meeting with my alumni organization downtown on Wednesday, so I was determined to arrive a little early and try this place. Thanks to the magic of LA traffic and roads, I didn't end up parking (about 10 blocks away from the store) until 5:37pm. I decided to go for it, even though they close at 6pm, and ended up making it to the area around 5:45pm. Looking around, I couldn't find the store. It's tucked away down an alleyway, away from a main cluster of similar type (counter) restaurants. As I walked in ~ 5 - 10 minutes before close, I was greeted by [I assume] the owner, who was super friendly and excited to serve me. We had a small exchange to establish that I am NOT a pie n00b, then I ordered a steak and pepper pie and sat down to dig in. It was awesome. So awesome, in fact, that I grabbed a beef pie for the road since I was so excited to try more. The beef pie was sort of so-so...good, but not on the same level as the steak and pepper. While it's unfortunate that this place is downtown and closes early (both of which make me unlikely to get to eat there often), I'm excited to have tried it and expand my Los Angeles area Aussie Pie education (not to mention have another place to take my Australian friends when they visit). read more

If you think apple and other sweet pies are the only pies, you are missing out. These savory pies, a classic Australian bite, are to die for. To be fair, I never knew about these until my Aussie husband spoke wistfully about missing them. I've made them at home successfully, but how lucky to be able to walk in and buy them, hot, fresh, and delicious! Plus, they are handheld, so you can grab one with a Flat White (a smooth Aussie coffee drink similar to a latte) and stroll around Fashion District...or eat them with a knife and fork, if you want...no rules here. Ground beef is the original, but I'm a fan of the peppered steak pie with a bit of ketchup. If you are peckish, one will do, but bigger appetites may want two. Just know that your tummy and tastebuds will be very happy, especially I you are familiar with Aussie meat pies. My husband and I have tried the other Aussie shops and this is, hands down, one of our favorites. We also just found out that they cater and can make pavlova cupcakes, so I have a feeling we will be eating a lot more from this gem. Oh and park at Joe's behind the Santee apartments on 7th. It's flat rate, $7 on the weekend and you can enter the court from the side gate. read more

The best part of the Australian savory pies was the thick and fluffy crust. The crust was soft yet miraculously held the heavy filling together when picked up. This crust with just about any filling is going to be good. Between the original beef meat pie and the lamb pie, I liked the lamb better because the beef was too much like a sloppy joe filling. The lamb wasn't one-note, but had flavors from the lamb, rosemary, carrots, and peas. My lamb-loving girlfriend liked the beef better because of the sloppy joe like filling. (Amazing how nostalgia influences the palate.) I didn't try any of the desserts mainly because the fruit pies were miniscule. So small that it's impossible for the pie to hold much fruit. Also didn't seem like much food for $3. The store does not face Los Angeles St, but is tucked inside the mostly vacant Santee Court. The neighboring businesses were thankfully NOT a barber shop. I love pie and I'm a savory, less likely a sweet. The flaky crust on each pie makes them the most heavenly of pastries. To top it all off, Samantha is the kindest person and the other folks there have just been the most friendly ever. I've been lucky to live on the same block since they opened and it has been the best treat ever. Since the new year, I've gone gluten-free, but that doesn't mean I haven't had my share of chicken bacon mushroom pies and chunky beefs. I've tried them all and haven't had one that I didn't like. Whenever I pass by or through Downtown I ALWAYS stop here and grab either a vegan tofu curry or the vegan ratatouille pot pie. They are both amazing, but I slightly prefer the tofu curry. Whoever is working is always very nice and down-to-earth, and I can't help but tip them extra because of it :D For people who don't know that little Santee Alley area it may be hard to find.. just walk on Los Angeles and hang a left in the alley right after Subway.
