I do like Brookfarm a bit more....when they speak to you about your animal, they act like it's the biggest deal in the world, which is what every pet owner wants. We want to feel important and heard. I have used the on call service for my minor meltdown when a cat was hiding for the day. The woman who called me back was personable, knowledgeable and helped find a solution to my problem. I wasn't going to write a review even though I was not happy with my experience however when I received a computer generated email from them asking about my visit I felt I needed to let people know. My dog was very sick and we set up an appointment to bring her in. My husband carried our dog in, was seen by the vet, given warming blankets and our dog died before the vet came back in while my husband was petting her. No drugs were administered. We were charged $85. I understand it is a business and while upset about the charge I understand the need to make money. What pushed me over the edge was the email I received the next day inquiring about my visit. How did the office smell? Were there any questions? And it was a pleasure to see us... REALLY?? My dog DIED!!! And now they want $85 and a review of my experience? Absolutely no compassion shown. Maybe they should review their emails before they are sent out so that they do not cause more grief to families that are mourning the loss of a family pet. I will NEVER go back there. read more

One week ago today, the staff at Brook Farm saved our dogs life. Our dog, Willy got into a package of freshly purchased mouse poison. The poison was not yet opened and still in the grocery bag. Long story short, the dog and the bag were placed in the same room. The dog ate the poison (we later learned he at 2 times the lethal dose for his size). Our first call was to Brook Farm where they instructed us to call poison control and to head in. Before we arrived, the staff was already in touch with poison control and had a plan in place. We were kept informed throughout the entire harrowing process and the staff could not have been more comforting and empathetic. Their diligence saved our dogs life. I will be forever grateful to them as our boy, Willy is a very important fixture in our lives. We urge anyone who is need of Vet services to absolutley go to Brook Farm. On June 30th 2017, I had to put my imobile, senior Golden Retriever, "Sandy" to sleep. I planned on doing so here at Brook Farm. Sandy was first given a sedative to put her to sleep. Dr.Kanouse left the room while we waited for it to kick in and about 20 minutes later she came in and abruptly preceded to giver her the final euthanization shot. I refused it because Sandy was very much cognizant still. The vet asked if I wanted to have her give a second dose of the sedative and I said yes. The vet gave her the second dose and came back into the room 20 minutes later and Sandy was sedate enough to be injected with the euthanization shot, so we proceeded to do so. I paid for the office visit, the private cremation, and the ashes to be returned to me. They informed us to wait at least two weeks for their arrival. I called two weeks later and the receptionist said a man already retrieved the ashes. I explain to her that this is impossible. The only one who would pick them up would be my sister who works nearly five minutes from the office. She was the only one authorized by me to pick up the ashes and had given them all her information. I called my sister to ask if she did and she said no. She asked her husband, and he said no as well. My mother and father were away, and my other sister lives in the city. I know no one else in this area as I am from Brooklyn and drove up for this because my dog loved being upstate at my mother's house.and I wanted her to spend some time there before this appointment.. I called and asked if they had a release signature or video surveillance footage to identify this man. They preceded to tell me they don't require a signature and that they had recently changed their WiFi so they wouldn't have video surveillance of this man. I called several times after, only to be put on hold for durations at a time in which they probably had caller ID and wouldn't pick up the phone for me. Until I used a different phone number and then they answered. That's when I told them I was going to seek an attorney. They gave me the name of the administrator/part-owner whose name is Evan. I finally spoke to Evan asking if he put any effort into finding my dog's ashes and he insisted that a man picked them up and he was not at fault. I never received my dog's ashes, I also asked for a reimbursement which I was declined. I paid for a service which was never successfully completed and they lost my Sandy in the process. With this, Evan said he would send me a certificate of cremation and would make a donation on behalf of my dog to an organization that funds dog's with cancer. This is not a solution that resolves the fact that they lost my dog and should reimburse me for the uncompleted service that I paid for in full. Which I still have yet to receive anything for. Also to mention, my dog would have a very unique last name and I'm sure there aren't many dog's with that name. Brook Farm Veterinary Center deceived me and the bare minimum that they should have done was reimburse me. Stay very far away from this place, they are unprofessional and they are liars that denied me the closure of having my Sandy's ashes. read more

Dr. Kanouse and his staff are personable, compassionate and knowledgeable. We had become very unhappy and dissatisfied with the local vets. While on vacation, our guinea pig became very ill. The pet sitter took our cavy to our vet (they had previously treated her and our dogs). This veterinarian clinic told the pet sitter they would not treat her without a substantial deposit. As a result of this episode we were introduced to the Brook Farm Veterinary Center. We are happy to drive 17 miles to a facility that truly CARES for our pets. Dr. Kanouse and his staff continue to care for our dogs and our guinea pigs. We have used them to kennel our dogs...this was a very good experience. I brought my sick dog there who had cancer. His left leg had swollen up and I wanted to have it looked at. Really I knew he was going but wonted to make him comfortable. The vet got him on a table and brained a bunch of blood that had collected near his leg. After he lanced it would stop bleeding. The vet says we have to do surgery to get it to stop bleeding. I was a little tight on cash so the girl behind the counter say's "don't worry we have credit that is 0 percent interest for 24 month". So I apply and am instantly accepted. Then they hand me a bill for the surgery 2600-2900 dollars. My dog means a lot to me so I say ok stop the bleeding. While he's in surgery the business manager comes back out and tells me. The bill is going to be more now since we had to run more test. So now it 3200 and he's not even out of surgery. So he comes out of surgery and there is a huge bandage towel under him. I can see that it's blood in the towel. So I ask "did you stop the bleeding" the vet say's I slowed it down. I could tell buy how much blood was on the towel he didn't do a thing. So now it 7:30pm at night and my dog is coming out of surgery. He's not even awake yet and there telling me I have to take my dog home before they close. So here I am with a 1/2 conscious dog that is still bleeding and they tell me I have to take him home. So I just paid 3200 dollars they won't keep him overnight and then they tell me I should take him to an emergency vet. So being out of expendable capital. I take him home. They were kind enough to let me borrow a gurney. My dog manages to survive the night. In the morning. He is awake and very week he hasn't eaten of drunken anything so I go back and get 3 iv bags and some IV vitamins for him. So they change me another 200 bucks I figure well if he survives no big deal. Then come the bad news. Somehow during the surgery his right paw suffered severe nerve damage. So when he would try to get up his other paw is now not working. So now I have a crippled dog that is still bleeding to death. He would eat or drink. I finely had to call a remote vet I know and had his put to sleep, This was the worst vet center I have ever deal with. as far as I am concerned they should have there vet license revoked. The last kicker is the fact that the credit service that they said "was 0 percent interest". It's called care credit started changing me 16% interest on the money I borrowed. We were long time clients of Brook Farm, we had three dogs, a ferret and gecko and have given them plenty of business over the years. However we will never go back there again. This past weekend our chihuahua was hit by a car, my wife was hysterical, she and a friend picked him up and got him to the Brookfarm, after all the years and times we have been there, not only did they not seem to rush to help, leaving my wife and the dog for 20 min. ( AND THIS WAS AN EMERGENCY VISIT) which they charged us for, they were more concerned with getting payment than to take care of our dog. When Dr. Kanouse, who my wife always spoke highly of him came to see them, he had no compassion at all,was quite insensitive in fact, gave the dog who was in shock a pinch test, did not do anything to ease his pain, made an insensitive remark when my wife asked if he was going to be alright, and then left the room to attend to other animals. When he come back to attend further to our dog and finally give him something for the pain, (after he was asked twice) he then informs us their x ray machines were not working, they were going to call around to see who could do the x rays again leaving my wife and the dog. After waiting and again hearing the doctor go to another patient, my wife called another vet just up the road who offered to look at the dog right away. My wife let the front desk know that she was leaving to go and have the dog x rayed. This is when they insisted that she sign what ever forms to insure payment, with the dog who did wind up having fractured pelvis bones on each side in her arms. To make it even worse, when things were complete with the other vet, Roosevelt Veterinary ( who were quite kind and compassionate) when we went to pay them, we needed the Credit Care account number, my wife didn't have it, but Brookfarm did, since they just processed the payment they hounded her for. So my wife and the vet called Brookfarm to get the number, and they did not want to provide it. Just completely disgraceful. Luckily my wife had a friend and our son there to help her, as clearly Brookfarm were no help at all. We will never go back and anyone we know who has a pet will become aware of how Brookfarm treated them. read more

I went to BrookFarm for over 10 years and watched it grow to be the best little moneymaker they could set up. IT IS open all the time and the doctors are good. That is why I gave it two stars. I always try to get the vet I first started with, Dr. Kanouse, and without notice they will change the doctor or try and give you a technician instead of doctor without notice. You always have to wait - no one ever runs on time. That has to do with scheduling and disregard for your client. Their tests and Prescription RX are 100% . I got eyegel for $40 and asked for drops instead. The tech told me drops were $200. After that I got an RX from a friend who is a vet and have ordered the drops for $20, I watched the son of the owner who "worked there" grow up from a child always goofing around with the staff to the now Administrator of the Office. You cannot reach him by phone and he does not return messages. Although staff does not know when he comes in. they cannot answer questions without his approval. Anytime you speak to staff with question, their last statement is I will definitely call you back tomorrow. Last time I spoke to Alicia and she said she would call back next day. I waited 3 days and then it took 5 phone calls before Monica called. Monica said she would speak again to the Administrator and call back either way the next day. That was 8 days ago and I have just left my third message. The doctors are good if you are willing to overpay and wait forever. The staff is a joke. read more

I have been going to broke farm vet for 15 years. When I first went with my rescue of 13 yrs old they were great. Didn't overcharge - helped with the issues the dog (Oliver) came with. Skin issues not fixed in need of shots - he was a mess. He lived to be 17! When he was put down they were so kind sent condolence cards called a couple of times to check on me. After a couple of months I rescued Bruno at 2 years old - again all was good - prices went up and they started pushing more teeth cleanings etc. when Bruno started getting seizures at 12 years old he had to be put down he also found cancer in his mouth when he had his dental about three months earlier. While I was waiting in room with him before dr kanouse came in to euthanize him the receptionist came in and asked for my credit card to pay for this while my dog was getting put to sleep. I couldn't believe it. I was treated so differently with Oliver - they said we will send a bill don't worry - not with Bruno! After two weeks I called to ask if his remains were returned they said yes about a week ago - I was not informed of this. I spoke to admin and told him that I was very disappointed in the way the whole situation was handled - he said that they have to charge at time of service it's set up in their computer that way. I told him that was not right as I had to come back anyway for his remains and I have another dog at home. He apologized but the writing was on the wall - I should have known at this point it was about money. And now we come to Stuart. I thought I will still gowns give them another chance thinking that my discussion with admin may have helped. Stuart was ten when I rescued him. He was fixed had a dental and all his shots. He went in for check ups and itchy skin sometimes. Stuart was the sweetest dog even let me brush his teeth. I did it everyday but as chihuahuas are known for bad teeth they kept pushing the dental surgery. Especially during pet dental month (February) giving 25% off dental cleanings. I scheduled the cleaning with apprehension. The day I went in the receptionist had me sign papers. They told me it just says what we are doing. Dr kanouse told me of some risk as there always is and he would do him early but he will be fine we will call you after. He called when the procedure was done and said he had to pull all the teeth except for one but he pulled it anyway because there was no point in keeping one. As the day went on I was getting a time to pick him up and I called several times. He said it's just taking him a bit longer to come out of it. By 4:30 I called Dr. Kanouse said he was having issues breathing his body temp went way down and he wanted me to take him to ER vet and not home. No one stayed over night so it was best to take him. I left after in a panic not paying attention to the bill or mess and dog food they gave me which I didn't ask for. 750.00. More than the high price they had given me. I paid and rushed to ER without a thought. The ER vet put him right in a oxygen tent and did a x-ray and I tried to get in touch with dr kanouse because they never sent his file over and wanted the blood work from before the surgery. After speaking to the answering service they did get the dr on the phone and he said he was home and would try but they never received them that night. The approx bill for ER vet was 1500-2000 I said do what you gave to. Dr kanouse said he should pull through when the ER called the next day he was a bit better but still in oxygen tent they did blood and another x-ray to see if he had fluid in his lungs. He said there may be a little so he did a IV antibiotic to make sure he did my get pneumonia. Later ER vet said he was doing better and we are going to take him out of tent. He said call about 5 maybe you can take him home or I may want to keep him overnight. At 4:30 I was driving up figuring j could at least see Stuart and see what was going on. On my way the ER vet called and said Stuart's heart stopped and they were working on him. By the time I got there he was gone he never regained consciousness. They couldn't give me a exact reason why but said it was definitely caused by the anesthesia. I made arrangements and left without my baby. Later on dr kanouse called and didn't really know what to say. I called a few days later and said I will be dropping of the meds and food - I never even looked at it. When I did look I saw, that only The antibiotic was necessary but there were other vitamins and things he did not need which come to the cost of approx $150. I stopped and dropped them off she said the food was complimentary and to use it for my other dog but I said no it was on my account which it was. She said she would get be it to admin to take care of. I never heard anything so I called - the receptionist said it was with admin and would take 7-10 days to processit is almost two weeks and I haven't even heard from dr kanouse or received a sympathy card read more

I was a long time client (25 years) of Brook Farm Veterinary Center. I always enjoyed Dr. Kanouse. However, he is rarely there lately. When he is, he does treat your pets as if they were his own and knows that they are like your children to you. Maureen the vet tech is also wonderful. However, during the past couple of years, I have experienced interminable waits of up to an hour with a screaming cat in the carrier, non-call backs from the desk staff when I called to get someone to come to put my cat down (he could not travel due to extreme stress) and I had to call another vet to get service at a very difficult time; and repeated spam emails from their automated system even after I have asked them to stop - including emails for check ups for my cat who had died; and ridiculous 10-fold overcharging for life-saving medications compared to other local veterinarians with a so what attitude about the price. Their practice has become too big and their service non-personalized. Very sad to see this happen. read more
