I ordered an ACME Siren Whistle from these guys back in the summer of 2025. The website clearly stated it was 'in stock'. 10 days later, it still hadn't shipped. Went into this afternoon to pick up a couple of extra strings for my violin and was very disappointed as soon as I walked in the door. The store was a mess; there were boxes, instruments and random stuff everywhere. I stood at the door for a few seconds trying to process what was wrong, like are they going out of business?! There was a single clerk working behind the counter and there were several people in line so I decided to roam around to find the string section. After stepping over a couple of instruments and moving a random chair, I found the string display...it was disappointing. They carry the brand I was looking for but had only A strings; they may have had additional stock, but I could not stand to be there any longer (let alone wait for the single clerk to help the other 5 people standing and waiting for help) - I decided to leave and go to another store. All I can say is this was a fantastic experience for me. I talked to Jim about fixing my sons trombone. He as very courteous and when I got there he was extremely informative. He sent me back to the repair guy and after looking at the trombone he said I'll be right back. He came back with the slide and said it was just a loose screw and be put a new cork on it. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!!! Ugh, the school recommend this company for my sons rental. We have had no issues before, we pay our bill on time for over a year in a half. No issues at all. Recently, We were told that his instrument needed to be fixed and to go down here to get it fixed. This is a small shop. Myself and another customer walked in and the front guy was on the phone for a good 35 mins before he even addressed us or said anything to us. As we were there listening about him randomly talking to "whoever " on the phone. I see someone in the back.. he just looked at me and continues to talk to the other employee. As I was advised by the school to drive down and they will give you a rental to pick back up. This was no my option... my option at 10am was to drive back to pick up at 4pm. We are in rockwall and this place is 1hour away. If I would have know this before I would have NEVER rented from here.. One star because I had to select one. Honestly give it a ZERO. Ordered a clarinet for my daughter weeks ago online and got delivery confirmation. Spent $115 getting her rental started. Still have no refund for my order. No instrument was delivered. Weeks go by, nothing. It said on the site that it would be delivered to the school. Nope. After a few weeks trying to find out where it was, customer service sends my to call this store (nowhere around us) and the lady at this store tells me to call Arlington, which would make sense cause I live in Fort Worth. I sent an email to costumer service, then get an apologetic phone call saying this isn't how they do business, that he was of course trying to deliver it to my house the night before if you can believe that. Said I was somehow being overcharged but I said I didn't want to do business with them and he said he was sorry and that he would process my refund right away. A week later no refund still. My emails aren't getting answered I sent 3 emails asking for an update and the guy I need to talk to, the one I talked to before, has a note to call me back but has not. I went in to the store on LBJ to try to get a replacement pad for a clarinet. My grandson needed it for Monday. I did not have the instrument with me as it was still at his house. I asked if there was a kit that I could buy that would have a variety of parts as I was unsure of the size of pad. The clerk said that nothing like that was available. LIE, I found one on Amazon. That happens to be the store that repairs a brought to so I asked if I could just purchase a pad with some cement. The clerk said that all they would do is repair the horn if I could bring it in. And he was quite rude about it. Glad I didn't get around to the renting the trumpet I need for my granddaughter. Who knows how they would have stood behind that purchase. I checked in every few weeks regarding the shipment and was given a variety of reasons as to why it wasn't shipped. I just cancelled the order today on 8/16/16 since I had still not received the part, and had no indication of when it would arrive. I give them 2 stars due to them answering my inquiries in a timely manner (usually within 24 hours), but should probably give them 1 star since they never shipped me the part after over 4 months of waiting. It's been a long while since I've been here, but I had brought my Bach Stradivarius trumpet here to get worked on. I had purchased the trumpet from a garage sale for $5. I got it so cheap because the original owner used all of the tuning slides for smoking drugs back in his heyday and lost'em and also had some minor dents on the bell. The repair technician smoothed out all of the dents wonderfully and ordered the parts to fit my trumpet perfectly, since it was originally from the 70's. Overall, I was really pleased with the work that he had done and I'd recommend them for any of your instrumental repair work. Yeah not a fan of this place at all. I rented my son a saxophone from here and the customer service is mediocre at best. The initial set up was ok, the gentleman was quite the salesman. I went to pick up my sons saxophone close to the beginning of the school year. I didn't get any feedback from the store when to pick it up. I was in the area and stopped in. I was met with an attitude when I was finally acknowledged. I was told the saxophone was not ready but they would get me one. I purchased a saxophone package and they didn't have a ligature. I had to come back and get a ligature. Never called me, so I called them and they said they had it. Gave me this subpar one and said it was better than the one I ordered. Yeah my sons tutor didn't agree. No maintenance was done on the saxophone at all during the school year. When I originally signed up for this rental, I was told I would get one of the best used ones they had since I signed up so early. Yeah, that's a no. Since I played the clarinet I had a small music background. My son went to play the instrument and it sounded off. It sounded like a key was either stuck open slightly. So, I pressed on a few keys and we found the culprit. The key was not making a good seal preventing the note from sounding like it should. I would expect that they could have at least checked this thing to make sure it worked correctly. I called at the end of the school year and was asking about returning the instrument. I called twice and got two different responses. They obviously aren't trained because the gentleman tried to tell me the music stand I purchased was theirs! Finally dropped off the instrument and was not greeted at all. Employee stated at me until I told him why I was there. Now I look on my bank statement and see a charge from this company for a saxophone I dropped off weeks ago!! I will not recommend this place at all and I am not the only person to have issues with this place. They need to take a look at how customer service works. It is definitely lacking! read more

I bought an expensive set of violin strings on line for $81. One of the strings had a manufacturing defect where the metal winding had separated. I noticed this the first time I strung up the violin and notified the company via e-mail the next day, and included close-up photos of the problem. They responded with "we don't have a replacement string available" and "we can't process a return set on strings because the package was OPENED". After 2 more E-mails, and an intervention by Amazon, Brooks Mays replaced the defective string via 2-day priority mail. read more

I have the confirmation email, sales invoice, as well as my credit card company transaction of $233.00. After 6 days without a shipping confirmation, I checked the order status to find it has been CANCELLED without notice. I then see the product I ordered listed at a HIGHER PRICE of $29.95. I've also visited the Dallas store on LBJ, numerous times. While not the friendliest crew, the employees are helpful after warming-up to you. In fact, they're nice folks. Store stock is limited. However, they'll order what you want, if needed. Trying-out an instrument can be a challenge due to space constraints, however, one does not need a concert hall to do the job. Lighten-up, folks. I ordered three products form Brook Mays on 4/11/2019. Twenty three back and forth emails later and numerous phone calls, I am being told on 9/2/2019 my order has been cancelled. That is almost five months of Brook Mays never initiating contact with their customer. Brook Mays has had my email address and my mobile phone number since the order inception. Never once did Brook Mays initiate any contact with me by email or phone. Their customer service appears to be nonexistent. With this quality of their customer service, I am glad I was not buying an expensive item such as a piano. I paid the initial payment in cash bc I did not have my card with me to put on the contract. THEY NEVER DELIVERED THE INSTRUMENT! Since they never delivered, I went to a different company, but H&H has been billing me saying that I owe them for an instrument I never received. Anytime I try to call or email (which has been numerous times), I leave messages and never get a returned call or email. THEY HAVE NOW SENT MY ACCOUNT TO A COLLECTIONS AGENCY! FOR AN INSTRUMENT WE NEVER RECEIVED!!! If they do not resolve the issue and zero out my account, I will be hiring a lawyer and taking them to small claims court. Called to see if they had a part. They did not but told me the part would be received from the MFR in about a week and then shipped to me (they called the MFR to verify this before I ordered). Long story short, after a month of getting the run around the only person in the ordering department (yes I was told this.... he has no boss) got very rude with me and said he would see what the problem was (he had told me this 5 times before). After a wait he said that the mass purchase order was finally being shipped from the MFR (they didn't even order it when they said they would). Asked if I could upgrade the shipping to overnight since I needed it asap, I was told NO. Not that I couldn't, but that they wouldn't let me. After getting the run around from their main office and the ONLY person I was allowed to talk to was this salesman (even going through the operator) I finally got in touch with a "regional manager" named Jeff who said he would find out what what was going on and make things right. After the company finally shipped the part USPS first class mail (classy people) and the post office lost the item during the Christmas rush, I finally got my part. About a week AFTER, Jeff the manger sent a single email saying "hope you got it by now". What a JOKE of a company. This company absorbed H&H music years ago which was a great company.... I sure hope the man who started that business isn't around to see what these people did to his once great company! read more

They promptly billed my Amazon.com account and a few days later I received an E-mail saying that they had the product to send me but not in factory packaging. Although I thought this was a bir strange I agreed to it since I needed equalizers more than packing material. A couple of days later I was notified that they could not ship me the product because they had been installed in a rack and shipped out to some other customer but that they had product coming and would very soon be shipping my order. I ordered a reed from Brook Mays via AMAZON.COM and unfortunately was delivered via USPS damaged. After filing a damage report the people at Brook Mays refused to either replace or refund my damaged reed because I did not report the issue within 2 days of delivery because this written on the packaging in fine print. To me they were simply trying to steal my money. I tried with via email to convince them what they are doing was wrong and immoral. But all I got from them is: It is written on the packaging. If you play upright bass and live in The DFW Metroplex, then you need to familiarize yourself with David Graham and Brook Mays. David grew up playing the upright, as did his father, so he knows the many idiosyncrasies of the instrument. Sure there are lots of fiddle shops in the area, but as we all know--the bass is a different animal altogether. I do not believe there is a more knowledgeable bass repairman in the area, and since he still gigs, he's the only one that really knows what you are going through when baby has to go to the repair shop. read more
