This is not the place you want your elderly family member to be for rehab. My 94 year old mother…read morewas there after a hip fracture, surgery, and a 10 day hospital stay. Prior to her fall she was able to walk with a walker. After 10 days in a hospital bed, she was very weak and barely able to stand. The Bellbrook rehab staff was not very patient with her (despite saying it could take up to a year at her age to recover from her injuries) and after a week decided that she was fearful and unable to stand or walk. She is now totally wheelchair dependent. After being at Bellbrook for 3 weeks, she was told she had to be discharged - despite insurance authorizing her to stay for another week! Discharge planning was abysmal. The care is safe, but not family centered. They do not include the family at all, insisting that family members leave the room, "while they provide care". I suppose if you would like to drop your loved one off and not be involved with their care at all, this would be ok, but it was not ok with me.

Our family placed our mother in Grace Senior Living expecting basic safety, dignity, and…read moreresponsible oversight. Instead, what we experienced left us heartbroken, frustrated, and ultimately fearful for her wellbeing. We had multiple meetings with management about her care plan, her daily needs, and the fact that she was a known fall risk (she was a dementia memory care resident) We made her needs very clear, repeatedly. Yet her care plan was rarely followed, and vital information was not passed down to the staff, or completely ignored by those who were supposed to be caring for her. Watching this play out time after time was devastating. Our biggest struggle was with management. Our interactions with Kim Briley, one of the owners, were discouraging and dismissive. Instead of responsibility or solutions, we were met with excuses and comments that made us lose confidence in the facility's leadership. She told us directly that many of her staff were lazy, improperly trained, or didn't have a high school education. She also made the comment that "they can't be watching her 24/7," which felt like a complete disregard for the fact that we were paying for supervision, safety, and adherence to her care plan -- especially given her being documented as late stage dementia and a fall risk. Amid the chaos, a few staff members stood out for their genuine compassion: Jessica, Tiffany, Colette, Christina, and Kiera. They cared about our mother and tried their best despite the lack of support and structure from management. They were the few bright spots in an otherwise deeply disappointing experience. The breaking point -- the moment we will never forget -- was when our mother fell and fractured her hip. In our view, this was preventable had her care plan been followed and communicated properly. After everything we had voiced and tried to address, this outcome was devastating. Obviously there was an ambulance ride to the ER followed by surgery and rehab. We removed our mom from Grace immediately. Not once did Kim reach out to check on Mom. Another disheartening find was learning that the facility is not even licensed by the State of Michigan! This only added to the pain and regret we felt. We trusted Grace Senior Living with someone we love dearly. That trust was broken. Based on our experience, we cannot and will not recommend this facility to any family seeking consistent safe, reliable, or compassionate care.

Every single person we interacted with was kind, patient, and truly caring. You can tell they don't just "do a job"--they really care about the residents and treat them like family. My 89 year old aunt has been living at Sunrise of Grosse Pointe Woods for nearly two years. On my last visit she called over several caregivers to her wheelchair and introduced them to me as you would a dear friend. My aunt was very unhappy to leave her own home and go into assisted living, but now she is contented thanks to the patience and attention of the wonderful staff. Resident Care Director Judy Gafa sets the tone at Sunrise GPW with wisdom and kindness and hands on care. She even personally accompanied my aunt for a doctor visit. I would attribute the excellence of these special people to a combination of genuine caring nature and superior training. Smiles all around. I only hope that should I need care one day that it will be from caregivers as excellent as the staff at Sunrise Grosse Pointe Woods.

The facility called us saying my grandmother was found unresponsive, and they were calling the ambulance. A few minutes later, they called back saying "never mind, she is responsive now. We think she was unresponsive due to the position she was in (slumped over in her wheelchair)." My father requested she be put in bed, and some of the family went up to check on her. We found her still in her wheelchair and still unresponsive. She was unable to open her eyes, she couldn't speak, etc. Had we just taken their word for it, my grandma would have never been medically treated. Additionally, my grandmother waited over an hour in the rehab unit on several occasions when she hit her button to use the bathroom. Then she ended up being put in room where the button didn't work, and she had no way to request for assistance. We met maybe two people that actually cared for her and took good care of her. P.S. be warned, when they say they have nurses on staff during evening hours, they do not. It is aids only, and if you want your loved one to be seen by the doctor, forget about it.

She loved spiritual programming with Laura. Moat of all she enjoyed her apartment with housekeeping services. She claimed she was never going to cook again after moving in and she didn't. On site Dr visits when needed were the icing on the cake. when her health declined and she went out to the hospital she came back to rehab. unfortunately the end was near and she passed away comfortably supported by family and staff. Very recently my mom passed at Sunrise at the age of 87, and the tears were flowing with the family and the staff which is why I used the word "caring" above. There was obviously a strong connection between the team and her (and my dad) which is not something you read in a contract, nor can it be fabricated. The foot soldiers are solid and do a job few of us want. Also, upper management does everything it can to make sure financial and daily needs are meeting expectations. In closing, my 91 year old father is still living at Sunrise and when asked if he wanted to explore other options he emphatically stated "NO".

I was lied to, lied abt, cheated of my therapy days/time, not bathed or showered, forced to endure untreated UTI, left to wet myself then blamed for it, stuff always disappearing(including my Bible, hearing aids and teeth!), manipulated by narcissist staff, ignored, not given my mail, not allowed a phone, TV never worked right so I could never really watch it and nobody would fix it, made to stay in my room, denied vaccinations, handled roughly when I could get somebody to help, friends couldn't see or even reach me! Turns out my family was in cahoots with the staff thinking I'd lived long enough (90+yrs!) and deserved to be punished. thought I was going to die here until God had mercy.
