The bartender noticed we were there and brought us drink menus. Our drink order was placed and we received them fairly quick. After standing for about 10 mins, two people finally got up from the bar, do we was able to sit down. Immediately after sitting down, we were provided with food menus. Probably my third time eating at an actual restaurant during COVID...I can honestly say that this place makes you feel safe and welcomed. We didn't have a reservation but I believe reservations are preferred due to seating outside but nonetheless they found room for us anyway...I personally witnessed the staff wiping down tables and chairs after a departing family was done eating. Everyone on staff is wearing both gloves and mask and they offer hand sanitizer upon entering. Best thing is they clearly set expectations on their menu so that everything is expected upfront. Although my food was roughly at 7.5 out of 10...it's the customer service that won me over...I'd return just for that fact alone. I'd recommend the devil eggs but would probably get a burger next time as oppose to the paella. Some people from my office came here after we volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank last Wednesday. For a party of about 20, I thought this was a great place that could accommodate us. (They had to rearrange tables so we could all sit.) I thought service was a little inconsistent only because some people at one end had ordered while others didn't get to order until a few minutes later. The server also took our entree orders after we were nearly finished with the appetizers. I think I was on the tail end of service but nevertheless was one of the first to receive my entree of the burger and onion rings. The onion rings are apparently a showstopper as most people at the table made comments, which then resulted in multiple orders for the table. I like that the two onion rings were large and didn't find them too greasy. I will say I was a little disappointed my burger required some assembly, but I guess not everyone wants vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, and pickle) in their sandwich. The table also shared multiple orders of brussel sprouts (a little too burnt for my liking), mac and cheese (fun gemelli pasta!), pretzel bites (which didn't seem like pretzels and appeared more like mini bread), and yucca chips (have to pair with the sauce!). read more

Feels very much like a neighborhood bar and restaurant, doesn't have the touristy feel like a lot of other places. Another more than fine Brookland restaurant adding to the 12th street allure. Brookland's Finest has that neighborhood feel - the staff was welcoming and this seemed to be a regular stop for many people. While it is a bit cozy inside with probably about 10 tables, they had decent space at the bar, and a large outdoor patio that'll be perfect for when the weather gets nice. They've got a good selection of upscale pub food with the crispy brussels sprouts and pretzel bites leaving us hankering for more. The Grilled Salmon BLT was full of flavor. We were a little underwhelmed with the Bay Shrimp and Grits and while we may have swung and missed there, the Mussels and Chorizo, Fried Maryland Catfish, Grilled Lamb Chops, and Porcini Rubbed Prime Rib have us eyeing our next visit. They also have a great selection of local beers. We've heard that this is a phenomenal brunch stop as well and are looking forward to giving that a try! read more

Such a great time at Brookland's Finest. Came based upon the magical reviews and we were not lead wrong. The food was everything I had the taste for and more. Our waiter was nice and gave great recommendations, that is always a plus for me when dining somewhere new. Our table had a million and one questions and he took them all in stride. I had some of the best cheese grits I have had in DC and my salmon was cooked to perfection not dry, beautifully moist and flaky. We had a few drinks, that did not disappoint. Kudos to the bartender. The decor gave you a cool vibe, and restrooms were clean. The deserts were awesome all accept my pecan pie but to be fair I am not a pecan pie enthusiast and I was running off of the recommendation from the waiter. It was a blustery winter afternoon and Brookland's Finest provided the perfect atmosphere to warm my heart, soul, and tummy. This is the type of local neighborhood bar that made me want to start checking real estate prices in the area. It was a carbs on carbs on carbs type of day so our table ordered: + Bacon Mac and Cheese - Creamy white cheese roux with the crispiest thickest cuts of bacon spread throughout. So rich! + Mushroom Risotto - I fell in love with Chanterelle mushrooms on a recent trip to Paris but have had a hard time finding it in dishes here (apparently they are very delicate so it is hard to transport). This risotto was chock full of mushrooms and roasted butternut squash. A total winner. + Brioche Bread Pudding - By the time we ordered this I was ready to take a long nap. But the beautiful thick cut loaf of brioche dotted with dark chocolate and a warm whiskey sauce made me want to sit up, dance and thank the Lord. Service was friendly and informative and it looks like they have some pretty good beers on tap. Since I was in the Northeast area, I decided to give this place another try. All the outside seating was taken, so I sat at the bar again. My first experience was terrible, largely ruined by a drunk regular (who lives 8 blocks down the street) spilling his drink on me and a bartender who ignored me and focused squarely on engaging the regulars. However, the food was still good and I believe in second chances. I liked what I ordered for the most part. The staff was cool. Very casual neighborhood spot. I had the fried fish with the super spicy greens on the bottom. The cornmeal fried fish was really delicious. It was topped with tartar, but they had no cocktail sauce, so I just asked for hot sauce and ketchup. I still find that most contemporary southern and urban restaurants swear their mac n' cheese is good (yeah it is, if you grew up on Kraft), rarely do I get a mac that's all that in these new contemporary restaurant/pubs. The sidecar was pretty good, sugar- rimmed, with the major hard core ingredients to relax that left brain nerve. I think this restaurant has a lot of potential and is certainly adequate for a nice lunch. I could make my way back here in the future. I would be really happy if I lived in Brooklyn because it's a nice neighborhood spot. It sure is fine, but not the finest. I'm going to preface this review with the fact that I am pretty sure I ordered all the wrong things when I visited Brookland's Finest. This place came highly recommended by my friend Mike who was blown away by their brunch and by several Yelpers. This place is definitely a local neighborhood bar and outstandingly cute inside (rustic and industrial looking). It is very family friendly (they have stroller parking) and large groups love this place (there were multiple birthday celebrations). For atmosphere, it gets an A+++. The menu here is solid all-American burgers, crab cakes, pork chops with braised veggies and seared salmon over cheddar grits. I denied my usual instinct to order anything that comes with grits, and we ordered the following: Porchetta Sandwich $12 Roasted Suckling Pig, Sausage, Arugula, Mozzarella Cheese, Whole Grain Mustard Sauce, Italian Bread, Hand Cut Chips When I pulled the pork out of the sandwich it was just a really thin patty of fried pork. It was so thin and so overcooked and it was basically tasteless. Baltimore Pit Beef Sandwich $14 Certified Angus Beef, Tiger Sauce, Pickled Onions, Brioche Bun, Hand Cut Fries For $14 dollars, you are better off spending that money to drive to Baltimore, and eating real pit beef with loads of tiger sauce behind a strip club. I had the pit beef while good beef, it wasn't grilled and it was cut thick (think more brisket than grilled top round shaved thin that is usually called pit beef). If the Barksdale boys were to come here, they would be very disappointed. There was a light smattering of tiger sauce, and if the Wire taught me anything I learned from Wee-Bey that you gotta put a lot more tiger sauce on that to be legit. Smoked BEET SALAD Special $9 A smoked beet salad with smoked goat cheese, pickled onions, & blood orange reduction We thought the idea of smoked beets was awesome, even sexier when they are paired with blood oranges. We thought wrong. The salad was not have bad, it was just maybe smoked beets are not our thing. I loved the gold beets though and the goat cheese was divine. Next time, I think I'd go with the traditional menu offering of the Roasted Beet Salad. Our service was friendly but heavily delayed. It took us 20 minutes after being seated to get water, 30 minutes to order, and it took us awhile to get the waitress's attention to get the check, with that being said, it was pretty slammed that night so delays were expected. So I feel like I haven't given Brookland's Finest a fair shake. I have a feeling this place has awesome comfort food and I should have gone with my salmon and grits inclination. My sister had been here before and loved the food - so she had me come back with her. We arrived on a Friday night around 10:45 - they stay open until 2:30am, though the kitchen closes at 11:30pm. I had a burger and onion rings & my sister had salmon and grits. we shared a dessert that a nice gentleman purchased for us. The dessert was so rich - cheesecake bites. Was ecstatic to try this neighborhood restaurant finally, but was disappointed by its current operations. Given many of the covid restrictions around making reservations have been lifted, we walked over to brooklands finest expecting an easy morning brunch. Upon our arrival we were told that since we didn't have reservations we would have to wait 40 minutes and make a reservation to eat there. If this establishment was packed this would be sensible, but there were MULTIPLE open tables inside and outside (at least 8). I will say they did offer bar seating....but the bar was packed. So I'm trying to understand if the goal is to protect us from COVID how making only packed bar seating available when there are MULTIPLE free tables available makes sense. It's so funny how two people can go to a restaurant on the same day and have two totally different experiences. My parents were looking to go out to eat this past Wednesday night so I suggested Brookland's Finest since it was featured on Fox5 Weekly neighborhood report and also because I saw one of my yelpers (Alexis) had gone there so I decided to give them a try (especially since I grew up in this neighborhood). My parents experience was totally different than mine. My parents went in the 5 o'clock hour and my father order the catfish which came with bacon macaroni and cheese and greens. Well since my dad doesn't like macaroni and cheese he substituted it for fries. My mom ordered the half of rotisserie chicken that came with mashed potatoes and greens, as well as the macaroni and cheese which she shared with my little cousin. My father was not impressed with his meal but mom enjoyed her's. When talking with my parents about their experience they informed me that they were not told about the specials of the day and when they went to go order dessert they were not informed of the specials concerning those either, so they opted not to get anything sweet. When I inquired about who their waiter was for the evening they just said that it was a male but did not get his name. I've visited the restaurant the same day later in the evening after a meeting at church. To start we ordered the bacon macaroni cheese, Brussels sprout chips, pretzel bites and onion rings. The macaroni and cheese was very cheesy and savory. I joke with my mom regarding the brussels sprout chips and told her that if she made Brussels sprouts like that grown-up I would have eaten them more often. They came with a sauce they tasted like ranch dressing but they were so flavorful it wasn't needed in my opinion. The pretzel bites were very warm and soft. The spicy mustard it was also very tasty. I didn't try the onion rings (they were huge) but my BF said that they were really good. Now on to the entrées, I ordered the fried green tomato sandwich which came with home fries and my BF ordered the special of the day which was the smoked chicken wings and it came with mashed potatoes and green. The chicken wings were very flavorful, but the mashed potatoes and greens left much to be desired. The mashed potatoes nor the greens had any flavor. The chicken wings were great and they came with a few sauces but we opted for the barbecue sauce which paired well with the wings. The fired green tomato sandwich was pretty good and I'm not even a vegetarian, lol. For dessert we opted for the peach cobbler which was a special of the day and the bread pudding. The peach cobbler had a great crust to fruit ratio. The bread pudding with the bourbon sauce was great as well, it was very moist and the cherries made a great flavor to usual raisins. Now our server was fabulous her name is Lizzy. She was very helpful in making menu choices. We loved the cups so much that the general manager gave us two on the house. They do not take reservations, and we were the last people to get seated without a wait as a group of two on St. Patrick's Day at 11:00 AM. I ordered a Bellini ($10) and Tony's Breakfast Club ($14). The club was french toast as the bread, with bacon, pork roll, cheddar cheese, eggs, and maple syrup. It also came with a side of mixed greens. The french toast was a bit soggy, and I might recommend getting the syrup on the side to avoid this, but overall, I really enjoyed my meal! It was a more unique brunch option, and the portion was perfect. I also enjoyed a bite of my friend's shrimp and grits. The Bellini was mediocre, but I would come back and try the other food options. Then today, after I waited 15 minutes for a beer while my table colleagues drank light margaritas; I figured they were slammed with orders, so I went to the bar to get it. The bartender was placing a beer on the bar that had (I thought) just made it, so I asked her for it. She gave it to me, and I returned to my table. Shortly after, a woman who I later learned was the manager; came to my table and reprimanded me loudly stating, "I was changing kegs, that beer was not for you. I will have to charge you for it!) Frankly, I figured I was already paying for it as I had ordered it). So I went back to the bar to determine why she would do that; the waiter who brought the margaritas indicated that he was angry that I would come up to the bar and walk off with a beer. Came here for Sunday brunch after exploring the Brookland neighborhood. I was really impressed with the menu--classic brunch items with fresh updates. This twist on a neighborhood diner goes above and beyond the traditional meat and potatoes type of menu. I got the veggie burrito with grilled tofu and my partner got Tony's breakfast club--aka stacks of French toast, eggs, and thick Canadian bacon. We were highly pleased with both and licked the plates clean. The service was also great. My coffee was constantly refilled after I took a few sips and the waiter was sweet and attentive. My husband and I both have connections to the neighborhood from last century, but hadn't been back since pre-Covid. We were looking for a restaurant for lunch before our 1:30 tickets in DC, and decided on Brookland's Finest. When the host said there were no tables for 20 minutes we were disappointed, but decided to wait... then I noticed that they seemed to be serving food at the bar, so I asked, and sure enough they had a full service menu at the bar! The bartender was great, friendly, thoughtful, and just a pleasant guy! My Huevos Rancheros were outstanding! Served in 2 crispy blue corn tortillas, they were awesome! This place is like a second home for me. My husband and I come at least once a week and sit at the bar. I have ordered everything on the menu many times over, the chef is fabulous. I love the waiters, bar tenders, GM, couldn't be happier that we live across the street. My husband usually gets the Veg burger (he's so happy to see a menu that doesn't only have meat substitute burgers), I usually get the salad with steak (INSANELY delicious). The food was ok. No wow factor. The Brussels sprout chips were decent. Onion rings had no flavor but plenty of grease! My husband enjoyed his well-seasoned half chicken, mashed potatoes and kale. The strawberry cheesecake was bone dry. The shrimp pasta was tasty but I would have preferred it WITHOUT bacon, as my stomach was upset for the rest of the evening. Btw... This place is the hidden gem of Brookland! Today was my second time and each experience (once for dinner once for brunch) I've seen a diverse and lively crowd. I was so excited to order the shrimp and grits again today. A handful of flavor-packed blackened shrimp are served on a bed of cheesy grits amid a creamy buttery sauce with sautéed tomatoes. My personal shrimp and grits recipe is very similar, so this dish really hits home! As an appetizer my friend and I split an order of fries and fresh fruit (bc life is balance). I went with the brunch burger (minus the egg), it is not for someone on a diet as it has deep fried pickles, bacon and cheese, but I think it is good to indulge once in a while! I asked for the corner table. I was told by the young man "Let me check to see if it is clean." The table was not reserved. Next he asked me where was my party. I could see my husband parking the car and said "he is parking the car." (It's not like there is a parking lot.) He then said "you can't be seated until they come in." The place was empty and there was no line (except for one white woman behind me.) When I spoke to the manager she said "those are our rules." When I said I understand your rules but the place is half empty and there is no need to be rude, we don't have to eat here she said "ok." Ummm I wonder what would have been her disposition if I looked differently? We have eaten here for decades but tonight we never reached the food. I will not eat here anymore. I have no appetite for that kind of treatment. Good thing there are more restaurants in the area that have train polite respectable workers. This was two employees but two was enough. read more

Great spot for brunch located in a residential street in Brookland near Catholic University. The space is quite small so reservations are highly recommended if you don't want to wait. There's also a patio for outdoor dining, also where diners with dogs were seated. Brookland's Finest is dog friendly and kid friendly with crayons and a kids menu. They have an amazing cocktail menu that is available for brunch along with the standard mimosas and bloody Mary's. For starters we had deviled eggs that topped with their homemade pickle relish that was both sweet and spicy. My entree of chicken waffles was well executed. The waffle was sweet and crispy on the outside but soft inside. The chicken tenders were crispy and still juicy. Yay! I was even able to try some of their fries which I also recommend, because they are fresh cut. Overall I would recommend coming back again and trying more dishes. read more

Today I tried the Fried Green Tomato Napoleon and it was delicious! The layers of fried green tomato, mozzarella and fried eggplant were a great combination and very filling! I also had the salmon tacos, which were rather bland, I wasn't able to taste the fish. But the Napoleon made up for it, I could have just ordered that and been more than satisfied! read more

Small, local restaurant. Fairly snug seating-wise. Went to brunch with a girlfriend recently, staff was welcoming. Food was tasty. Would stop by for quick breakfast/brunch plans. read more
