There was a slight wait before my stylist got to me. It started with a pre-cut hair wash. Then I showed him the haircut I wanted from photos and for the next 30 minutes he did a great job cutting my hair to my specifications. After the cut, I got my hair washed again and then he styled it using some gel and hair spray. My haircut was clean, even, and matched what I showed my stylist. My haircut plus tip came out to about $55. Of note, they speak almost entirely mandarin Chinese here.

To be fair, the prices are comparatively low. A relaxer comes to about $50 (some places have tried to charge me $115!), a wash and set probably less. I seriously wouldn't go to Tresses for anything else, I've never even seen them color someone's hair. She does alright-ish weaves but I digress... Going to this place is such a downer. The owner/ main stylist is, to put way nicer than she deserves, RUDE. And you have to deal with her because she handles appointments and payment. But she refuses to try and learn your name, won't look you in the eye, and won't make conversation. She also tacks on a fee for everything. Want a trim? $10 extra. Want conditioner? $15 extra. Prices are subject to change without notice and she somehow manages to forget what you called for when you get there. She once sugested I get part of my hair done one day, then come back the next for the rest. So she could leave early. Um... NO. She also does no styling, just puts in the relaxer and sends you on your way so can get to the other clients she has waiting. She does 50 heads at once, plan to be there ALL DAY. I hate going there and had been doing so to save money but it's so unpleasant and time-consuming and my hair growth has suffered. Go here as a last resort, to save some cash, but don't make it a habit!

I called to make a last minute appointment and Dana graciously invited me to come in so she could assess my hair and recommend the best option for my thick, straight Japanese hair. I was looking for volume with defined curls, and she suggested an airwave perm, which ended up being the perfect choice. I was given a wonderful shampoo and conditioning by a kind employee. Following the wash, Dana gave me a quick trim to add some layers and remove bulk from my one-length cut, and then really got to work. About 2.5 hours later, I walked out of the salon with beautiful, bouncy curls that looked just like the reference photos I brought in. Even better, I was told the perm should last about a year with proper care, which makes it totally worth it. I was also provided some fantastic Japanese hair serum, which was so kind and appreciated! When I got to the salon, she was in the middle of cutting another patrons' hair. I waited about 10 minutes before the gentleman washed my hair. Dana is very quick, from start to finish I was done in 30 minutes. She styled my hair at the end so I didn't notice the rushed work. After washing my hair, I noticed the jagged layers that don't fall right on one side. I wanted a simple cut with layers... I guess I will be wearing my hair up until it grows out. Danato took his time in explaining the entire process to me before starting the treatment, which included multiple cleansing washes accompanied by steam throughout. He finished the treatment off with a bouncy blowout. I have thick and coarse caucasian/asian hair, and he was incredibly patient and enthusiastic in creating the look that I wanted. The whole experience was relaxing and pleasant from start to finish. Danato was very attentive, polite and detail-oriented. I would highly recommend him for a hair spa treatment or blowout!

Honestly, it's probably two part in what I asked for and booking an apprentice stylist. Wanted long curtain bangs and long layers, cut to just below the collar bone. Got a long bob with, albeit, layers... some of the bangs cut dried and curl into my nose. Again, it's part bad ask and bad haircut. The stylist was working with me and tried to achieve what I was asking for, I just wish there was a bit more conversation about how to achieve what I want. Instead, I was impressed with how the stylist reiterated the hair cut back to me in bullet note like fashion, but it didn't initiate more conversation but instead felt like a: I'm telling you what I'm doing so if you dislike it in the end, it's your fault not mine. Giving 4 stars because I only had the stylist the one time! Don't knock this place until you try it, but this was my experience. I'm posting some reference pics along with my haircut.
