My family and our friends came to the 6BC Botanical Gardens to see the Nightmare Before Christmas light show. This was an incredibly exciting experience. I went with a couple of friends of mine and we all had a lot of fun. The music was really great and the lights took you through the movie from beginning to end. The sculptures were also really cool and I was so happy to see my favorite characters. They incorporated the main movie characters including Jack, Sally, and my personal favorite Zero. They also had Oogie Boogie, and they also had Lock Shock and Barrel. But they also had many of the secondary characters including the clown with the tearaway face, and a few of the witches. It was as if I was walking through the movie and seeing some of the scenes in real-time. The best words that I could use to describe the experience are magical and immersive. I'm glad that I went and I know that we all had a great time. read more

6BC botanical garden is free for the public. The neighborhood community manages the surviving botanical garden in Lower Manhattan, New York. Garden hours are noon to 6 pm on weekends, 6 pm to dusk on weeknights, and whenever a member is in the garden, it will be open. 6BC is such a hidden gem in the Alphabet City! It's a small garden but every time I visit, I feel like I've stepped into a little oasis away from the city. The garden is very well maintained (shoutout to all the volunteers and staff who help maintain the garden!! It's so clear how much care and effort goes into maintaining this space for the community) and the surrounding trees, plants and flowers make for a very calming yet charming space to clear your mind. The best part? There's a treehouse that overlooks the garden! The whole garden is such a nice respite from the chaos going on outside and it's my go to place whenever I feel the need to "touch some grass". read more

This is a beautiful and charming respite in the east village. The only problem is that there are so many flies biting you at all times everywhere here. The little tree house is a coveted destination. Be prepared for it to be packed and wait your turn into the treehouse! I enjoyed reading the book that I brought inside. They also have used books inside. read more

i took a bunch of photos here and it was really nice. its a nice mix of nature and being in the city. there are lots of gnats flying around though, in groups as your walking. you can see them in clusters. -_-..........its a cute garden but i've seen better. maybe i would come back if i'm around. read more

On a sunny and warm Monday afternoon, my fiance and I treked out to the East Village on a mission to visit as many green spaces as possible. Unfortunately, we were not aware that many of the little pieces of heaven are only open on weekends. Fortunately for us, this little paradise was open. Our mouthes dropped open at the lovely sight before us. There are beautiful flowers all around us, and trees everywhere. There are hidden seating areas dispersed throughout the garden for a cozy atmosphere. The best part of the garden is of course the house. You can sit underneath it, or walk up the stairs and find space to sit in it and curl up with provided books. If you're lucky, you can grab a spot on the tiny balcony overlooking the garden. This garden is ideal for impromptu photo shoots. But be conscious not to disturb the people that come here to relax. ;) read more

2016: I had the dreamiest first date at this garden. The way the light dispersed through the leaves was truly stuff of fairy tales. A wonderfully private place, the 6BC garden is like stepping into another world altogether. 2017: OH MY GOD I'VE BEEN EATEN ALIVE. To celebrate our one year anniversary, my Woman and I returned to the very spot we enjoyed on our first date in 2016, only this time our bodies were for lunch. Bugs in every direction, loving our flesh, loving our blood, and I KNOW it must taste good because of all the bacon I eat. It's hard to blame the insects for wanting a taste, but TOO MUCH IS TOO MUCH! We couldn't stay for more than 3 minutes. My legs and arms looked like the dimples on a basketball, positively ravaged. 2018: Bugs become very big, take over the world, President is a mosquito - only natural progression. 2019: Humans are almost wiped out, world is mostly bugs, 6BC Botanical Garden is ground zero for the revolution. Small human colony secretly lives beneath the sewers, planning their uprising. 2020: Uprising fails, only bugs now. read more

I'm forever uncertain whether or not I want to have offspring of my own (guessing the world would be a better place without a gaggle of miniature Ruggys running rampant), but that doesn't mean I don't get joy out of being around children as much as possible. In San Francisco, seeing a child is about as rare as a blue moon, but one of the most refreshing changes of scenery coming to NYC is the large amount of youth canvassing the streets of Gotham. In particular, this here Alphabet City public botanical garden. Smack dab in the middle of all sorts of bodegas, bars, and eateries lies this natural oasis and public garden ripe for enjoying a day in the sun with a good book and great company. Whether you're lending your green thumb to live sustainably from the earth's bounty or you're bringing your overgrown grommets of BFFs for an afternoon of wagon riding atop the communal Radio Flyer, there's a little rejuvenation for all. With the season about to make a change for the swampier, I can only imagine these shadowy confines will make for the perfect respite from the dog days of summer. Woof! read more

One of the most amazingly beautiful and well-kept community gardens that I've seen! You can really tell that the members of this garden are invested and prideful of their little plot of land. There are amazing varieties of plants here, a koi pond, a reading nook, picnic table, fountain, and more! I love strolling through this little garden with a latte from Ninth Street Espresso. This garden is truly one of my favorites in Alphabet City - and I do not hesitate to say, perhaps in the whole city. The plants are really awesome and widespread; the garden is somewhat of an organized chaos, with lots of private nooks and interesting plants and flowers to look at. This park is a little piece of heaven in the east village. I instantly went on their website to volunteer (still awaiting response) because I love this sanctuary. It is the most well kept garden I have stumbled upon in our fair neighborhood. Perfect place to bring a book and relax. Arguably my favorite garden in Alphabet City, if not all of Manhattan. Of course it's not as large as any park or botanical garden, but for the fact that it is completely run by volunteers and donations, it is amazing in terms of the amount of love and care that has been put into crafting this little garden. It's really peaceful to just sit around and study in and the fountains/little enclosed spaces are amazing. Whenever I go on a garden tour, I always show people this place last and they always love it. Basically, one of my favorite places to spend time in when the weather is warm.
