Took the kids here during spring break because even tho we have cats at home, we love that this cat cafe is a non profit helping cats find homes! I was happily surprised to see they also have rabbits and turtles! We tried to add on as much as possible in terms of buying snacks and drinks for humans and treats for cats, to give some extra monetary support to this great place. All the people working there were super pleasant, the animals seem happy and we really loved our visit. We will be back!

I normally don't write reviews, but I feel compelled after seeing how this organization handled a volunteer and how they responded when people tried to call it out. Recently, a volunteer named Luna shared screenshots of emails she received from the coordinator, Sonja, and the founder. Another reviewer here already described her story in detail and attached those screenshots, so I won't repeat everything--but what stood out to me was that the organization openly admitted they acted on an "educated guess" when accusing Luna of being hostile. When she tried to explain and defend herself, the response was dismissive, personal, and unprofessional. Instead of taking responsibility for a mistake, management doubled down and framed her defense as resignation. When I wrote a Google review about this situation, the owner responded not by addressing the evidence (the emails Luna herself posted), but by deflecting and attacking me personally. They insisted I was "friends" with Luna, even though I have never met her--I only read her story online. Their response was to shame me, rather than provide any proof that Luna was in the wrong. Such defensiveness tells me a lot about how they deal with criticism. (I attached my review and the response I get in the screenshot). To be clear: I have not volunteered or visited this cafe, and after seeing how they treat volunteers and how they respond to community feedback, I would never want to. Cute cats don't make up for dismissive, unprofessional management. If this is how they speak to people who give their time and effort for free, I can only imagine what the culture behind the scenes must be like.

This cat cafe is good. It's nice service, but the cats are rowdy. I would come back again. This cat cafe is good. It's nice service, but the cats are rowdy. I would come back again.

I loved looking at all the hiding spots the cats chose lol Will come back next time I'm in town:)

Super cool fun place to visit! So much fun! And all for a good cause! Helping out animals in need. All cats are available for adoption. It costs $10 for half and hour for timed tickets. The time goes so fast, I suggest buying an hour. You need to pre-order slots online to get in. Also make sure to sign the online waiver, which is for any possible injuries caused by the cats. I've found most of them to be super duper friendly and oh so cute. The more possibly aggressive cats are indicated by a red collar. But I played with them and they seemed quite friendly. Small children should be careful though. They also sell treats to feed the cats. All the workers here were so helpful and nice. Atmosphere. It feels like hanging out in a cozy loungy comfy cafe! There is no people food here though. There are sofas and seating all around, so get comfy and hang out with cats! They are free to wander around, sniffing, playing and looking to be petted. There are a mix of adult cats and little kittens. There are lots of different active cats to play with, unlike some other cat cafes that only had a few and half of them only wanted to sleep. If you are looking to adopt a cat/ kitten, this place is a great place to look. You can play with the cats and see if there is a connection. So many cute faces here. Hard to resist. Final note: A nice way to spend an afternoon! Come by and play with some cats and maybe adopt 1 or 2 cuties and give them a home! This is also close to the Brooklyn promenade. So check out the great views of the city, after your visit to the cafe.

This is an awesome way to spend a rainy Friday. All of the cats were asleep (I would be too, blame it on the weather lol) Please donate if you can! These kitties deserve it. Thank you to the volunteers too!

Cutest cafe I've ever been too, didn't get any drinks or anything but didn't matter to me. The staff were super sweet, funny, and even though they had to run us through some safety procedures and information they made sure we knew it wouldn't take from our time. The cats were super sweet and will all flies over to you if you have treat's. I didn't buy any treats and decided to directly donate to them instead but if your patient you will still find cats to hangout with. My only tips are fine a nice seat and let the cats approach you, if Ricky or Kraken is still there make sure to show them some extra love and consider adopting! Also come early to your appointment time because it seems to get a bit more busy as time goes on and it might be a bit harder to find a place to sit. All in all definitely consider stopping by to give these cats and staff the love they deserve!

Oh my god SO MANY CATS. I must have seen at least 30... I reserved two 30min slots, $10 each, and completed their waiver beforehand so entering was very easy. I can see how this was a cafe before (not anymore because of covid). They didn't check my vaccination card, but they made sure that everyone had their mask on correctly and over the nose. There is a storage bin right when you enter so that you don't have all your things covered in cat hair. The staff were all very friendly and organized. I liked that they color coded the cats with a bit more spicier personalities with red collars (don't approach unless they do) and cats with diet restrictions with a yellow collar (don't feed them treats). So obviously, I was very excited when a cat with a red collar approached me and my friend. Treats are 25c a cup, but I'd actually avoid spending it because there were a lot of treats scattered everywhere and someone actually gave me their treats because their hour was up. Also you don't need the treats, I want to say that ALL of their cats were very friendly and didn't need treats to incentivize them. My favorite was Mr. Bunny, who let me hold him. :) All of the cats were very friendly and playful, and you can see kittens near the front too. You can't play with them though, they have to be reserved separately! So cute and the hour flew by. A lot of people say that they feel bad that they can't take them home, but I think it's still helpful that you were able to help socialize them and play with them. Time might have been short to you, but it definitely makes a difference in their lifetime. Highly recommend this place to all cat lovers! $20 for an hour and endless friendly fluffy kitties was so worth it.

Ask the Community - Brooklyn Cat Cafe

Do they serve any food/drinks in this cat cafe?

only bottled drinks, like juice, cold brew coffee, water, soda.

Do you have to make appointment before coming?

You can make an appointment at the door if they have space but you have to make an appointment either way.

    Is the food good?

They don't have human food, only cat food. I'm assuming it's good for the cats.

Do you have kittens available at the moment?

All of the available cats are listed on the website, catcafebk.com! Kittens can only be adopted out in pairs.

How is it to adopt a cat and what's the process of adopting one as well?

Once you fill out the adoption application online (catcafebk.com) you should hear back within a week or two. Once you are matched with a cat, the process is pretty fast-moving. There is a whole section with information on the website, but you can…

Can I pet the cats without ordering food?

Absolutely! You can play with them as much as you like for about $9 for half an hour. I don't think people eat there anyway.

Do we have to reserve before we come?

Not at all, you can just go there and sign the forms before you go in

How old do you have to be to play with the cats? And do you need a parent to go with you if you are under 18?

Yes you do need a parent if you are under 18. However, if you are 14 and over then your parent just needs to fill out your waiver online and send you a picture of their id and you will be good to go

How much to adopt a cat?

The price varies by the cat. Some cats need medical procedures so their adoption fee may be higher. Typically, adoption fees range between $150 and $400 for a healthy cat.

Do they accept debit cards as payment?

    Yes

    Does this place take cards?

    Yep!

Super conveniently located off the ACE line too at Canal St. They provide all the materials and your preference and they help match you with a furry friend. They were advertising a specific pick up and drop off date for the animals for this program, but i wanted to participate for a bit longer so I called a few days before to see if they're able to accommodate. The staff who answered didn't know the answer so they took down my info and told me someone would call me back. Days passed and I didn't hear back so I had to make a trek down there to ask in-person so that was a bit inconvenient. I wanted some time to prep my home. Anyway when I let them know that I'm a beginner foster and would prefer a cat that is generally friendly with no behavior problems, they helped me match with an adorable adult cream kitty. I picked her up with no issues. They provided me with all the supplies (and more) that I'd need for my week-long foster commitment. They also provided a number that I could text with any concerns should any issues come up. My whole experience was very positive. I'm glad to see that they have now expanded their program with allowing folks to take a dog out for a walk. I've seen further Instagram posts posting about these excursion experiences, but I think you have to come early during the day as only a limited number of dogs are eligible candidates daily. I've done similar excursions at Sean Casey in Brooklyn (no appointment necessary) and ACC (booking required a few days in advance online) so I'm excited this opportunity exists here in a more centrally located place in Manhattan. The shelter also allows visitors to come and view and play with their cats. You just need to make sure you wash your hands before interacting with them. I love this but also hope this doesn't overwhelm the cats too much.

We wanted a playmate for our sweet 1 year old cat, and a friend recommended Best Friends. I came by and the staff were all so sweet and welcoming. They were super informative and encouraged me to play with the cats. During my first visit, I came across the cutest orange female (RARE!) kitten. I had dinner plans and couldn't bring her with me. I came back an hour or so later and she was in the process of getting adopted :,) happy for her but sad for me. It's ok! I just thought that maybe it wasn't meant to be. A week later, I came back to Best Friends with my boyfriend on a mission to adopt a cat. They had an additional room towards the back that housed kittens!!! There were so many to choose from. We chose Juni because she was very cuddly and had a little quirky mustache. The staff made the adoption process so quick and easy. They even provided us a care package with all the necessities (kitten litter, wet and dry food). I expressed my concerns about introducing Juni to our cat at home, and they provided a step by step guide. They even followed up 2 weeks later with our progress. The employees and volunteers here really love what they do.

NDLB is an incredible 501(c) (3) non-profit and their global mission of rescuing dogs and cats from immense suffering and complete abandonment, along with their exceptional care and concern for each survivor (no matter the gravity of each animal's injuries), is nothing short of outstanding. The dog we happened to adopt is a Japanese Akita Inu and happens to go by the name Romeo because he happened to be saved from slaughter on Valentine's Day (on February 14, 2020). The founder of NDLB , Jeff Beri, and his crew actually risked their lives twice to save our dog. Once (due to the strict Covid-19 Restrictions in China at that time and a second time to challenge the people who were about to slaughter him). I personally found all of the NDLB staff I interfaced with during the adoption process very personable and easy to connect with. More importantly, I found the staff demonstrated great care and concern for their animals throughout the adoption process. While waiting for Romeo's freedom flight to New York, we received multiple videos and photo's along with ongoing communication from the NDLB Chinese staff who were with him daily. The New York staff made sure I (along with my husband), understood all the possible challenges that came with adopting a dog from overseas and wanted to make sure we were up for this type of challenge. All I can say is Romeo has completely changed our family's life. Our family over the years has had three dogs. Romeo was our first overseas adoption, by far, he is the most considerate dog we have ever had the pleasure of owning, and is always looking out for our well-being. One last positive has been, over the past months, being able to maintain on going contact with Romeo's team in China, and being able to send photos and videos of him here having all sorts of fun in the USA. (See Romeo enjoying sunbathing below).
