We were looking to adopt some kitties and heard good things about the BK Cat Cafe. This place is great. I think this might be the best cat cafe I've been to so far. On another note, we did end up adopting not just one, but two wonderful kitties! The whole process from start to finish was smooth and easy. The cafe itself is pretty large. High ceilings and rafters help accomodate the cats. There are safe enclosures for the super baby kittens. Cat beds, cat toys and such are around, and you can interact with any and all cats there. There was a good variety of cats the weekend I went, from very young to much older. Some were sleeping and minding their own and others were much more alert. I'd definitely make a reservation online and try to go earlier than later in the day. Cats tend to get sleepy after feeding time and too much play. I loved all the cats there, so it was pretty tough to decide who'd I want to take home! Though my initial thought was to take only one, we ended up adopting two younger cats of under 1 yrs old. Most of the kittens will need to be adopted in pairs fyi. The cafe staff were extremely helpful the day we visited and gave us alot of input on the cats and how the process of adoption goes. We put in an application, and it took about a week to receive the cats. Since the staff was so accomodating, it made the whole process worthwhile in the end. The ease of creating a reservation and paying for your slot online was very convenient. The price was about $12 for each person (2 adults 1 minor) for 30 minutes with the cats. The cats were very friendly and if you are a fan of Black cats there were plenty. The cats' collars were color coded based on how aggressive they could get but for the most part they were very chill. You can buy some treats for $5 and go around feeding the cats. They will eat it right out of your hand. When I visited they had the newborn kittens in the display case with the mother because they weren't vaccinated yet but I'm sure they're out and about now. I had to cancel a reservation for 3 people for Jan 20 2025. There was bad weather and one of us got sick. I sent in my refund request at 11:30 Sunday Jan 19 within the 24 hour refund deadline. Right then, made a 3pm appointment, then killed time at some bookstores. Once we got there, we went right inside with a quick rule look over. Without buying any treats, cats were responsive and wonderful, some playful, some sleepy, but all so cute !! At one point there were a few too many people to cats, but for the most part it was well-paced! The Brooklyn Cat Cafe is a safe, clean, well run sanctuary for kitties waiting for adoption. The rainy Saturday afternoon I came was booked solid and while it felt a little crowded, it was a manageable level of busy for kitties to feel safe, take a nap, and scamper about. I think there were 15 cats about, sitting on the bar, hanging out in the rafters, taking naps on cozy beds, and strutting around. Some cats are very friendly, some are shy and hide a bit. Remember that you're there to help the cats get socialized and like humans, don't expect them to crawl in your lap and chill. There are vases around with rainbow string wands, jingle balls, and you can buy cat treats to sweeten up the fuzzy friends. They staff and volunteers rotate the cats during the day so no cat gets overwhelmed, which I appreciated. There was a mama with five week old kittens in the front plexiglass case to fawn over (but no touching). They also had a very chill rabbit, guinea pig, a family of rats, and a turtle/fish tank. There is a private room if you're looking to bond with a particular cat you're hoping to adopt. You can buy drinks here, but not food. There is no age limit for kids, but I highly recommend you have a good long talk with them about what being a nice human looks like. Restroom was clean. The Brooklyn Cat Cafe is a 501(c)3 non-profit so all proceeds go toward cat care. If you're the volunteering sort, they have opportunities to give your time and affection too. Highly recommend reservations online in advance. Slots are 30 minutes. If you want more than one slot, you have to check out multiple times, which is not UX friendly, but I guess it also helps them with turnover. read more

You would think that living with five cats would be enough for me, but no, I have to visit to cuddle with more furry creatures. (Yes I already accepted that I'm a cat lady and would love to live with ten more. Future husband just gotta have to accept that) Initially, I thought that this place was an actual cafe that serves coffees and dessert while fluffy babies play around you but it is more of a shelter where you can cuddle with their fluffy cuties. The place is a little small but they have a lot of cats to play with. They also have toys available that you can use. Also sell treats that you can give to the cats. This place is such a good stress reliever. My friend and I were both super stressed after taking an exam for Nursing School when we first visited here. We visited this cafe because all other cat cafe was booked for the day. Walked in expected just seeing cats but they also have rats, rabbit, Guinea pigs at the back. The cat weren't very interactive unless you have food or treats. The only ones that let me pet are the sleeping ones haha. Best part about this place was unexpected the rats. My friend was able to play with a rat with a scarf on. That was such an experience. Downside is the front desk lady. We were waiting to get checked in at the front desk, this lady was talking to her friends for a good 5 minutes ignoring us. Place was run so that 20+ people crowds cycled through a small space every 30 minutes, half of the cats were clearly overstimulated by all of the random strangers coming in and out trying to touch them. 2 were actively biting ppl who got close. The other half of the cats were so lethargic they looked like they were sedated. 2 cats who wanted to play were being mobbed by multiple people / families. After my third trip to the Brooklyn Cat Cafe I am sorry to say that I cannot recommend this rescue. The staff is incredibly rude. One girl who works here practically hissed with anger as I asked about a cat. I went to express my concerns to another staff member who kept saying "Maybe you should try another, more 'desperate' rescue" while she scrolled on her computer and couldn't even make eye contact with me. For what it's worth, I am municipally certified in TNR. I understand that all rescues have different rules regarding adoption, and this review isn't about those rules or the functioning of the rescue. This is about inappropriate human interface. I think some people are just better with animals than they are with people. I've had better luck with Bideawee and MeowSquad. read more

Oh my goodness. If you enjoy the company of felines please visit the Brooklyn Cat Cafe!!! It's a really well done space and concept. They have an enclosed entryway to preview con artist cats from escaping and where cat-lovers can stand and sun the waivers (and buy a canned beverage if you'd like). Once completed they give you a sticker with the time you came in then you pay by the half hour when you leave. It's only $5 for 30 min, while the cat cafe in the city is $20 for an hour. My friend and I decided ~45 min is about perfect amount time to spend but left at the 30 min mark. The cats are all rescues and up for adoption. There were kittens that unfortunately can't play with but can see. It's good for them to see humans and begin to be socialized. If you find yourself willing going to a cat cafe I assume you have had interaction(s) with cats before and enjoyed it. So as you learned every cat has their own personality as do the cat cafe cats. When I started going to the Brooklyn Cat Cafe almost 2 years ago they had just moved to the new location Brooklyn Heights. The location is spacious with lots of natural light and big windows in the front where you can look at the cats without coming inside. Before you enter the actual cafe there is a small front room you fill out your paperwork in then wait for someone to come escort you inside. Take care to never open both doors at once to help prevent any cats from running outside. Once inside the actual cafe you put your things in a cubby and are given a sticker with a time on it stating what time you came in to start your visit. The charge is $8 per half hour. If you look at their calendar you'll see they have theme nights such as Adults Only, Yoga with cats etc. There are two main rooms and many cats (maybe around 20) roaming around. I usually sit in the back room and play with several kitties that are interested in socializing. Some tips to help you have the best experience: -NO FOOD OR DRINKS HERE. Unless something has changed in the last few months they sell no refreshments. I understood the term Cat Cafe to mean they had cats there for me to enjoy. -DO NOT BE IN A HURRY when you come here. It is run by volunteers and they have their own pace of doing things. -DON'T BE SENSITIVE. I see several reviews talk about how rude the people who work here are. Again they are cat people and volunteers; they are there to make sure no one hurts the cats or stresses them out (unintentionally or otherwise) . DON'T GIVE THIS PLACE BUSINESS!!! SO many of the cats were CLEARLY sedated so heavily, l thought some were literal statues. Some DID NOT MOVE from their place. They didn't pick up their heads. They barely looked like they were breathing. There is NO WAY this is normal. As a cat owner, the only way my cat is lethargic is when he is sedated. This was such a fun experience. I love cats but can't have them at home and this was a delightful option. The cat cafe is usually pretty busy but you can either call ahead for a reservation or drop in and they'll let you know when to come back. Our wait was probably about an hour and we were able to pay and then come in. There are a ton of cats of all shapes and sizes and colors. They have an observation room with kittens and their mama cat when I went but the other felines roam free. You can purchase kitten snacks or use the toys to play with them. They even have kitten parties you can book!! Each slot is for an hour which goes by fast. I recommend completing the waiver ahead of time or you'll find you only have 40 minutes of cat time. I was visiting my college age son in Ny and he was feeling a little blue. He loves cats so I made an appointment to go over to Brooklyn, thinking it would be relaxing and cheer him up. In making our appointment I paid in advance for a drink and snack as well as our time. Also filled out the release forms online. Well, we got there (easy trip on the R from Manhattan) and it was so disorganized at the entrance and loud. I can't say this was the cafe operator's fault. They work with what they've got. We got a bottle of water since I paid for it in advance but no snack. Ok no big deal I guess even though I paid for it in advance. Inside the cafe it was so constrained. Such a small, confined space. People are squeezing by each other and you can't really easily get to the cats to pet them. Also quite loud bc there are so many people. So not relaxing at all. Lesson learned. I thought it would be one thing but it wound up not being close to what I expected. My son had been to another cat cafe before in another geography and he said it was not nearly as crowded. My son was overwhelmed by so many people in the cafe, didn't feel like he could get to the cats with ease without crowding someone else so it stressed him out. You can't play with the kittens, but you can gawk at them from outside their little enclosure. Unfortunately worse cat cafe experience I have had. I have a cat so I know how to act around them. Having a cat out that actively scratches you for even going near it is a no no. And there were two. Apparently they were *grumpy*. I was given ZERO warning of this when I walked in. Thank god i was wearing long sleeves so that the scratch wasn't too deep. The lady at the door was nice and explained things as I walked in (Asian girl with glasses, didn't catch her name). But honestly by the late afternoon no cats wanted really much to do with the humans, it was overcrowded, and a small space. I ended up leaving before my 30 minutes was up. They were also going to give me the online price upfront but couldn't figure out how to charge it. When they needed help on how to charge the discount, one girl comes up (I'm guessing the manager?) and says "why?" in the most snooty voice possible and declines that I will get that. I just kinda looked at her, paid, and left. I wasn't going to leave a review until I encountered that rudeness. That was just icing on an already horrible time. I wouldn't come back here. Honestly after a scratch and leaving early, I wondered why I was even charged at all. Bamboozled. I feel like they just really want your money here. I've been to Koneko around 2 years ago and had a lot of fun at that location so it made me want to give this one a try as well. On a Saturday, I came with the boyfriend at exactly 3 and (luckily) it wasn't too crowded. Keep in mind that upon arrival, you are required to fill out a waiver before they let you in so you do that in the little narrow hallway. It's pretty short, so I didn't really mind although I felt somewhat claustrophobic at the fact that I was standing in the small hallway with 5 other people. (They lock the doors to prevent any cats from leaving, so it's completely understandable!) Upon entry, the front desk lady gave us a very welcoming vibe which was definitely a thumbs up for us as first timers. She did some brief explanations and pointed out the collar color codes - the red collared cats are the ones to be left alone. There were about two cats with blue collars, I didn't see any with green collars. I don't remember seeing any collars of any other colors other than those. Some of the cats also did not have collars on them - but they seemed friendly enough where people were petting them and they had no problem with it. Pros: Simple enough, they give you a sticker with the time you came in & each half hour/7$. Because my visit to Koneko was a while ago, I still can safely say that this location is cheaper than that one, although this one had a smaller space. They had a variety of cat toys, some baby kittens, and 2 turtles on display as well. I ended up spending a majority of the time (we only stayed half an hour) entertaining one kitty with a fish on a hook and it was surprisingly playful. I also petted a few cats and kittens here and there. My boyfriend preferred observing and refrained from possibly getting clawed by the kitties :p Cons: I mentally decided to stay away from the red collared cats. Majority of them seemed to be grown cats and I observed that they also weren't the friendliest with their cat/kitty peers either! One of the red collared scratched one of the kitten's head when it was just trying to be playful. I also was surprised that I counted about 5 red collared cats? (That's a lot to have been excluded from my playbook ;( - but its ok) Another thing is that the space was pretty small, so if they admitted more people, I would imagine the experience to feel like you were in Times Square all over again. But again, we were lucky to have arrived at a not too busy time!!! I would say that the overall experience here was very fun and interesting - the staff, volunteers, everybody was extremely friendly and one of them *did not catch his name* even engaged in some small talk with me about cats when I asked him if it would be okay to pet the cats when theyre sleeping. I stopped in with a friend on a Saturday and it was moderately busy. They asked us to check-in using their online system since they don't accommodate straight up walk-ins. But if you didn't make a reservation (like us), you just step outside real quick, go through the forms for their check-in (which include COVID related stuff) and choose an available time slot if there are any left for that day. If you have your heart set on this place, make a reservation in advance so you don't get there and find out that they don't have any time slots available. They are not serving beverages due to COVID, but it's my understanding that they have in the past and will continue to once things are more back to normal. It was $10 for 30 minutes and definitely plenty of time to get to know all the cats who were accessible. We came at the end of the day and had the last slot before closing so I think generally the cats were exhausted from all the human interactions and many of them were put away for the day. I think in total there were close to 7 cats out, and maybe around 10 people in the cafe at the same time. There are opportunities to apply to foster cats before they end up at the cafe as well as adopting those who are already there. Bottom line: if you're looking for an opportunity to pet some cool cats and don't mind it being a little cramped, this is a great spot to spend some relaxing time! If you are looking forward to being overwhelmed by cats and need a more quiet experience--this might not be the best spot! read more

The Brooklyn Cat Cafe is such a great concept! Out of the cat cafes in NYC, it is the cheapest, at only $5 for 30 minutes. There are many different cats here at all ages, from kittens to adults, and the best part is that they are adoptable. The staff here are the people that rescue the cats, so they are passionate about what they do and knowledgeable about all of the cats. They can tell you detailed stories about the behavior of the cats, where they were found, their temperaments, etc. There was a high proportion of kittens here compared to the other cat cafes. To adopt a kitten, you must adopt a bonded pair though. Most of the cats were very socialized. They were used to people and loved to be pet. We tried to adopt here, and while they seemed to like us as pet owners, they were a bit skittish about my apartment setup when it comes to kittens, but were quick to suggest adult cats. Oh man this was the best part of our visit to the city. We are huge cat lovers and it kills every time we leave our cat home and come to the city. (Usually every other month). This was the perfect cure for missing our cat. We were looking for a cat cafe with a purpose and were super excited to find this non profit organization that truly cares about their animals. The cost is so low as well. There is another place that tries to charge 20 bucks a person per hour, which is insane. Here it is only 6 bucks per half hour and you know that money is going to taking care of their cats. As soon as you walk in, the excitement is going to almost consume you. While you fill out your paperwork you can see tons of cats sleeping, playing, and running around in a clean controlled environment. Once you get in and get your time sticker(how you calculate and pay when you leave), you are free to roam around and pet and play with the cats. All of the ones around are clean, have their shots, and are tame. You will see some in pens that are either acclimating to people or waiting for shots. I highly respect that. They can still be loved, but just have to be contained to the time being. You will absolutely love coming here and you won't want to leave! read more

Cats aren't toys. Just gotta make that clear, first and foremost. That said, I absolutely adored my first time here. The "front desk" lady was super sweet and inviting. She helped guide the sign-in process and even gave a mini tour at the beginning. (And gave me and my boyfriend an extra 10 minutes to spend time with the cats.) I love the fact they're able to roam free. For anyone who enjoys spending time with felines, this is the place for you. Cats are free to go and come as they please and for the most part, they were all very friendly. Some were skittish, which is completely understandable and fine. No need to aggressively or incessantly approach cats who clearly need space. Respect that. It was a nice touch how they had a lint roller to use at the very end - which was much needed after over a hour spent with the kitties! read more
