I needed an expensive coat altered, the pockets fixed, dry cleaned, and quickly. Although they were really busy, they were able to do everything requested with a very fast turnaround. The alterations were perfect and the coat was pressed clean, pockets fixed, and looked great. They were very gentle with the coat and understood that the fabrics were delicate and needed to be handled with care. Their wash and fold rates are also competitive for the area. It's less expensive per pound and smells nicer/packaged better than other places in the area. Bottom line, they did everything they said they would and took care of all of my clothes at very competitive prices, with a fast turnaround to boot. read more

Went for dress alterations (bridesmaid dress). Seamstress recommended the hemming the length and taking up the top for better fit on the bust. I asked about some other alterations however she recommended against them at this time. Given she is experienced I took her word for it. Turnaround time was less than a week which was great! When I went to try on the dress, length was great, however I was not happy with the fit around the hip and waist (The bride specifically wanted this corrected). When asked if the seamstress could fix these alterations she became very upset, asked me to go home and try it on again. I was so uncomfortable I left immediately. Upon trying on the dress at home I was also not happy with the alterations made around the bust. It seems like a nice place for dry cleaning, and maybe simple alterations however I would not recommend it to anyone given my experience. read more

I brought a couple of suit pants and a jacket in for alterations (lower legs tapered, jacket taken out a bit and sewed-closed pockets opened), but we had a miscommunication about what I wanted done. They quoted me a price that seemed reasonable, and I paid and left the clothes. When I got the clothes back and tried them on, the jackets weren't touched at all, but the pants were expanded out so much that they were huge on me, like clown pants. It was kind of like a weight loss commercial. I didn't want the pant waists touched at all, and I realized that they must've misunderstood my request to take out the jacket as a request to take out the pants. I brought the suits back in, and we discussed how the pants didn't fit and how the jacket wasn't altered at all. They said that there wasn't enough material to meaningfully let out the jacket, to which I suggested moving the buttons, which they said they could do. (I'd think that would count as letting out, or at least be something they could've suggested the first time I came in, but hey.) I said that they could just put the pants back where they were, since I didn't ask for them to be let out and they clearly weren't measured for that, but they insisted on measuring me anyway. I brought up that I paid to get the pants let out when I didn't want it done, and we discussed figuring out what price I should've paid, since I paid for stuff that I didn't want done and that wasn't done right. They said they'd look at the ticket and we'd figure out what it should be when I picked the clothes up. That sounded good to me, and I left. When I came back to pick up the clothes, the pants now fit reasonably and the jacket buttons were moved. Fair enough. When I mentioned that we discussed some kind of make-good because I had paid for work that I didn't request, their attitude completely changed, and they refused to give me any money back. I explained that the pants were pretty clearly taken out because we had a miscommunication (I wanted the _jacket_ taken out, they misunderstood that as _pants_) and that I shouldn't have to pay for work I didn't ask for or need done. They said that because they didn't put the pant waists back where they were before, that they "needed to be taken out" and their attitude seemed to be that, basically, i should be thanking them for charging me to do work I didn't want. (Insert incredulous reaction gif here.) For the record, I have another suit made by the same company in the same size, and the unaltered waist fits fine. The waists were unnecessarily altered twice, diminishing their physical integrity, because Brooklyn Cleaner & Tailor messed up. They produced the ticket from the first time I came in, which was pretty hard for me to read, but it apparently had "let out" in the pants section. I'll admit that I should have read the ticket and clarified the (several) confusing entries, but the handwriting wasn't particularly legible, and I felt comfortable enough with the total price and the conversation we had to think that everything was straight. One entry on the ticket, $10 for opening the jacket pockets, appeared to be written in another language. Maybe that was to obfuscate that they charged $10 for something that other tailors have just done for free when I got other work done. Personally, I think they probably just mistranscribed the "let out" under the pants section of the ticket instead of the jacket section. I guess I should've read the ticket carefully and specifically negotiated individual prices for things so I knew exactly what I was getting. I trusted them to have fair prices and be reasonable about working things out if they went wrong. That was a mistake. The quality of the work was "just OK," not to mention the fact that I had to come back multiple times to get it done right. The jacket pockets were opened successfully (could've done it myself and kept the $10, but fair enough). The jacket buttons were moved. The tapering of one pair of pants was pretty good, but it didn't look as sleek as I'd like. The tapering of the other pants was barely performed, and when I mentioned that the bottoms still looked kind of baggy, the tailor responded that more tapering wouldn't look right because of the shape of my legs. Another (same cut and size) suit I have has more tapered pants and looks/fits quite well. The tailor simply did not understand the style I was going for and was not interested in getting it right. I will need to pay another tailor to re-do it. I came out of my way to go to this place instead of somewhere walkable from my place based on the Yelp reviews, and I regret it. I get that shop owners don't like giving people their money back; the charge for messing with the waist on my pants was $30, and I eventually gave up arguing and let them keep it. If it's more important for them to have 30 bucks than a customer, more power to them. This place is weird. Avoid it. read more

The woman who picked up the phone took me in circles because she simply could not understand the following question: "If I drop off a shirt and dress for alterations today can they be ready by Thursday?" She asked if I dropped them off last week, was it dry cleaning, am I dropping them off Thursday -- it was genuinely exhausting. I begged to speak to someone else and she refused, yelling at me to talk to her instead and insisting there's no on else available. I finally had to hang up. This was literally two minutes ago. Guess the other review about poor customer service is accurate. Shame, because the reviews of the actual work done looked great. Guess I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Had alterations done on a jacket, sleeves shortened and button moved. Owner was friendly, pleasant, and accommodating. Work was quick and excellent. And cheaper than other options in the neighborhood. The negative reviews here seem to mostly be a) entitled people thinking that they should get free stuff or at minimum a fawning apology when they complain rudely, and b) vaguely racist complaints about communication errors.
