Stumbled upon this delicious gem and hole in the wall! We were in the mood for some delicious croissants and as soon as you walk in, it's a very tiny space, big enough for you to order and go but the perfect size for producing fluffy baked gold. I'm a chocolate croissant type of girl for ever for always especially if it has nutella. When seeing the almond croissants they sell here, yup, I just had to. Hubby ordered the chocolate croissant which was delicious and flaky and baked to perfection. But the almond croissant just hit different. The almond paste inside and the shaved almonds on top with a bit of a crunch were my fave. We walked to a little community garden a few steps away and enjoyed our baked goods in the sun surrounded by nature. It was the perfect start to our day! read more

A lovely French bakery near the Columbia St waterfront! They have ranked in the best croissant in NYC multiple years in a row so I had to check them out! I tried a pain au chocolat which was excellent, lots of great lamination. Their baguette is excellent too! I also tried the orange blossom pistachio flan which was very delicate and floral. They also have babka which I'm excited to try next time! Really cute spot with reasonably priced excellent quality pastries. I'm excited to go back! read more

One of the most underhyped bakeries in Brooklyn, and probably the best croissant in the city. The latter is not pictured since it sells out pretty early, and I was too late on this occasion. But it was a blessing in disguise, since it forced me to try their chocolate chip cookie, which I thought was better than Levain's. Definitely a destination bakery despite its somewhat hard-to-reach location on the border of Red Hook. read more

Brooklyn French Bakers established itself in the neighborhood as the place to get authentic French croissants and baguettes. Unfortunately, the owners decided to expand into other products (granola, quiche, sandwiches, patisserie) which don't match their original offerings in quality. That of course, is in the eye of the beholder. What is becoming an issue (and the reason I won't frequent them any longer) is that they sell out on the basics way too early as good old American profit maximization has taken hold. Yes, I know I can pre-order on line, but I'd like to maintain some of that European spontaneity where I can decide to pick up croissants for Sunday breakfast without having to plan for it 48 hours in advance. I wanted to start my morning off with a croissant and came by here on my stroll with my pup. It's a quaint bakery with some fresh-made goods. I opted for the Almond Croissant ($6) and Original Croissant ($5). The almond croissant is tasty, but a bit flat while the original was beautifully layered --so perfect! I got the almond & chocolate croissant and I did like it indeed, it was $5. They recently added tartlets to their menu so I got a strawberry one, that was $7.5. I liked both items and I thought they were worth, the only issue I have is the location. It's in a subway dead zone and especially from Manhattan I felt like it was so hard to get to. There is no indoor seating, just 2 tables outside so plan to take it to go. read more

Without a doubt, the best baguette I've had in the city. Here's an important note to remember - do as they do in France, which is to immediately consume the warm bread as soon as you purchase it. The difference between fresh bread (I stopped by right when they opened on a weekday) and the one I brought home for my roommate was phenomenal. When a baguette is warm, it crackles on the outside as you tear off a piece, and delightfully chewy and warm on the inside. I loved how much gluten was in this baguette, and my only regret is that I did not buy more. Their croissants are good too, flaky, structured, and airy on the inside. However, I personally felt that they were too buttery (each bite oozed butter) but didn't have the fragrant flavor I would have liked. Perhaps if they used a different type of butter, I'm not sure. I'll be coming back to try their other desserts for sure. As another reviewer mentioned, this is a take-out establishment. read more

I've had croissants, the aforementioned pain au chocolat and most recently a country bread to literally put any other country bread to shame (here's looking at you 7.99 Balthazar loaf from Union Market.) Went on a Sunday around 11 and the selection was quite limited. I chose 2 staples, plain and chocolate croissants. Sad to say they were good but only slightly better than average. This is the best chocolate croissant in NYC. I have searched for years to find a chocolate croissant here that is as good as they are in France, and this is it. We just happened upon Brooklyn French Bakers when in Red Hook one day, and decided to order a chocolate croissant and a mini seasonal cake. After we left, we walked one block, took a bite of each one, and turned around to go back for more. The lamination in the croissant was beautiful, the pastry was flaky and buttery, and the chocolate was the perfect texture (just between hard and soft!). read more

I was looking for a French dessert and came across this bakery online. I walked in and there was a lot of baking going on. Croissants were coming out of one of the ovens. Aroma was fantastic.
