We've been trying to find a dentist locally for a while but somehow we always drove back to Long Island to her old dentist. As we approached the store front my 4 year old goes 'oh how cute can I go in?'. We were greeted, signed a few forms and were offered to wait in the playroom. She dove right into the toys and when It was finally our turn she totally had the jitters. I felt the entire staff made such an effort. Dr. Lau named all the princesses and the color of their gowns, the teeth cleaning and checkup was full of stickers and promises of the playroom again! We had a few tears but Dr Lau was so patient. We felt everyone genuinely wanted her to feel comfortable. She took a million years choosing a toy prize. The front desk staff even showed her how some worked. It's such a wonderful atmosphere. I recall the intense fear I have for dentists. I think after today she's going to look forward to the visits. Oh and those mini dentist seats, all the vibrant colors...felt like a play lab with a free checkup. We can't wait for our next appointment. Highly recommend and I am a relieved mom since we came out cavity free and we have a new squishy frog toy. This is how a dentist visit should have been for me so that I am less fearful. read more

We took our son here for his first dental cleaning/appt last week (he's 16 months). He has 8 teeth and 4 molars are coming in all at the same time :-0 This office was on. point. We had to wait about 20 min to be seen - but that was actually the best part of the visit for my son! He loved the playroom. He was climbing, playing, reading... Once they called us I was able to sit in the chair with him and they had a screen on the ceiling with pretty much every choice of kid show/movie. We don't allow screen time yet - but on occasions like this it was helpful (I chose the movie "Cars"). They have a dinosaur w/ teeth and gave my son an electric toothbrush so he could brush it :-) He giggled. Finally, when it was time to clean and check his teeth - we layed down and I held his arms. He whimpered a little but it was over sooo quickly. Th staff all knew how to talk to him and he responded so well. I learned that we shouldn't be giving him milk more than 2 times a day since the teeth become weak for an hour after each cup of milk. They provided other pieces of sage advice too, in order to keep him cavity free. He got a ball as a gift on his way out and uses it everyday. Win. Win. read more

Dr Lau is a good dentist. My kids will sit still for the television she positions close to their face as she pokes and prods around their mouth's. Where things fall apart for me is their billing policy. Even after paying a lot more than I have ever paid for a couple of cavity's, as well as seeing my insurance company paying a near similar amount, I just received another bill asking for more money. I've been to more than a few dentist's and doctors who take insurance payment as "Paid in Full", this is not their policy, it's more like, we're gonna milk you for every cent we can. Please re-evaluate your policies and be more transparent about your billing, otherwise I will not be returning. read more

Came to Doctor Lau after my then 5-year-old wouldn't open her mouth for our Park Slope dentist. She'd gotten a cavity and refused to comply with the doctor's orders. I called around to several dentists for a phone consultation about my daughter's anxiety. Having had a lot if dental trauma as a kid, I was determined to find a kid-friendly dentist. Enter: Dr Lau. She is so warm, sweet, and friendly, I wanted her to clean my teeth! Plus, the office is ultra stylish and modern and the entire staff are just as terrific as Dr. Lau. There's a tv screen showing kids' choice movies above each chair so my kid hardly seems to notice she's getting her teeth cleaned. We love this place! I've been bringing my older child since he was 2 and am now bringing my second child as well. The dentists and hygienists are warm, caring, and thorough and they keep it fun with a playroom, a show to watch during the visit, and a toy after the cleaning. I've learned a lot about how to take care of my kids' teeth but they aren't punitive or unkind about the struggle involved in caring for the teeth of a toddler. read more

I took my two year old son for his first dental appointment yesterday. As a mom in the back of my mind all i was thinking was...how on earth am I going to get him to sit through this with out a tantrum. Well, the moment we came in through the door he was super pleased and happy. The wonderful staffer at the front desk imminently invited him into the waiting/play room, he was super happy. before i finished the paper work, the Dental Assistant came into the playroom and asked my son if he wanted to come in and watch a movie...of course it didn't take much for him to follow. Right after he was given the choice of two movies, she explained very playfully and thoroughly with a stuffed dogie with teeth how he should brush his teeth and then proceeded to sitting and watching his movie of choice Cars (which he loves!). The Dentist came in and was very friendly, asked him questions about the movie and the characters in it, let my son touch the tools she was going to use and proceeded to cleaning his teeth. Both the Dentist and the Dental Assistant proceeded to sing to him and before he knew it... without a scream, a kick or a meltdown.... we were all done! It was like a miracle! I could not have asked for a better experience for my son to have on his first dental visit and I would highly recommend this office to any parent of toddlers! read more

For multiple reasons we left Dr. Jackson and decided to try Dr. Lau. I am so happy we switched. Dr. Lau and her staff have been excellent with my children (8 and 15). My now 8 year old had many cavities that needed to be filled when we first went to Dr. Lau (the biggest I'm convinced because Dr. Jackson did not take x-rays and so the cavity grew under a filling). He is a very nervous patient. Dr. Lau and her staff made him extremely comfortable. For a cavity that required a root canal with a very nervous boy - Dr. Lau put him at ease and was able to complete the work with only local anesthesia and her calmness. They always take the time to listen to him and respond. From the big points - having enough anesthesia to numb the mouth to the smaller points, they listen. At one point my son decided he didn't like the paper towels they used to cover his shirt - so they found a more "acceptable" design. And now every time he goes in they remember and find the towels he likes. To be this good and take insurance - Dr. Lau is a real find. read more

I took my son to twice to this clinic, they have a nice set up and they keep the kids entertained while doing the treatments. What I disliked was the fact that I was charged in advance for things that were not actually performed, such as X rays, and wouldn't I have asked for a refund I would have simply been charged. Also a $50 rescheduling fee isn't so "friendly" for returning customers... read more

Staff at BHPD is great, from the receptionists to the hygienists and the dentists. Everyone is friendly/helpful, great with kids (of course!), and very knowledgeable. The equipment is modern, the location "fresh" and the kids love the distraction of movies on the overhead screens (not to mention the sunglasses and range of flavors of the foam/fluoride). The only downside is that there is little room to wait. Usually, they are very punctual however, so it is rarely a problem. read more

Great place to take your child to for routine checks or any dental issue. The office environment and staff makes the place feel welcoming and fun for all the young ones. Super friendly from start the finish. They also take the time out to educate my child how to take care of teeth. I was a nervous mother but Dr Lau made me feel 100% at ease. This morning our toddler had her first ever dental check-up. We were a little nervous, but our hesitations were unfounded - the team there was fantastic. They went out of their way to make our little one feel comfortable and happy. After a spell in their playroom, we were called through to meet the nurse and her assistant (a toy dinosaur with a full set of teeth!), so she could have a practice on him with their electric toothbrush. Then we met the lovely hygienist who asked our daughter to guess how many baby teeth she had. "Great guess! Let's count them." So the hygienist was able to count her teeth as she did a quick dental exam, then explained to our toddler that she'd be cleaning them for her. Our daughter was delighted, especially as they put Peppa Pig on the ceiling-mounted tv for her. The toothpaste was Peppa themed, too. Then the dentist (who was also friendly) came to have a look, and reported a clean bill of health. The dentist also took some time to answer our questions (as parents) while the hygienist finished up. If they hadn't have handed us the bill, we'd have been loath to leave! Fortunately, they said they'd take care of billing our insurance company (why don't more practices do this?). As we were leaving, the team gave our little one a goody bag with toothbrush, floss, stickers, and a gift of her choice. Great service. read more

If I were to rate Dr. Lau alone, I would give her 5 stars. She was excellent with our son for his visit to the dentist. Both she and her hygienist were warm and friendly. The receptionist/billing department on the other hand is not the best. I was charged $200 for my first visit (I was told that I was getting a discount because it was my son's first time.) But when I asked for an invoice/claim form to send to my insurance company for reimbursement, I was charged an additional $135. Unfortunately, the person who filled out the claim form, filled it out incorrectly, and so my insurance company ended up sending the reimbursement check to the dental office instead of to me. It's now taking forever for them to respond to my inquiries and to credit me back the $335. read more

I just took my 2 and a half year old here for his first exam/cleaning. The whole staff was super pleasant and very sweet with both of my kids, and I got the impression that they all genuinely adore children. The little play room was a big hit with my son while I did paperwork and waited for the appointment. My kids have been loving Dr. Lau since their first appointments, over two years ago. My son needed cavities filled. My daughter needed help to stop sucking on her thumb. Dr. Lau helped them with both problems and now they love coming back for maintenance cleanings every six months. I find Dr. Lau to be so kind in her explanations to me and to the kids. She is also engaging and funny for the kids while they're in the chair. My daughter was sad when I had to reschedule her last cleaning. She was really looking forward to it. What my kids don't know is that Dr. Lau also has a great staff. Kind and friendly and super knowledgeable about insurance and payment issues. I always know what costs to expect and can make decisions more easily. A phone call to this dentist's office always leaves me more informed and well treated. Not stressed and angry. Dr. Lau's office takes all the stress out of taking your kids to the dentist. For that I'm grateful enough to make an account on yelp and take the time to write this review. We have been going here for 6 years. My kids are now 8 and 4 and I am always very impressed by the warmth of all of the staff. They seem to take copious notes, and always share funny tidbits to welcome my kids based on comments they said about movies they watched there. My last visit there was truly impressive as they got my 4 year old to go through his entire exam and X-rays. His previous trip there he would not open his mouth-but they did not pressure him. And this past weekend they made my younger son laugh and feel so happy and comfortable. He was walking around so proud and really had a nice time. While Dr. Lau is professional enough, her services are outrageously priced. In addition, much of what her office offers is bells and whistles. While your kid will receive a sticker and a bag at the end of his or her appointment, you will be many dollars poorer. It would be better to buy the stickers yourself and hand them to your child. The front-desk staff I encountered was rude and unable to communicate. They told me a price before I visited (in an e-mail), and then they 'forgot" about my promised discount (BE SURE TO ASK FOR A 19% DISCOUNT IF YOU PAY IN CASH), and they verbally berated me. For the hundreds upon hundreds of dollars I spent for JUST A CHECKUP, I think I will take my business elsewhere. It doesn't pay to be abused for so much money, even if your kid can watch a video on the ceiling. Again, bring an iPad or other device to another dentist and save yourself the headaches of this office. read more

Wow. So impressed. I came here for my sons first ever dental exam and I was terrified for how he would behave. The office has a great playroom with fun (not sad and abandoned) toys. Chairs are set up with overhead TVs with all the key players on rotation: Cars, Thomas the train, etc. The hygienist and dentist were kid experts, explaining things in a way that held my 2 yr olds attention. Dr Lau is a great dentist but her front desk staff is the WORST. They are entirely inflexible, they will not stay a minute past closing time, and they give condescending, robotic, canned answers. I wouldn't write this review if it wasn't the 4th time I have had negative interaction with them. Jennifer V & Helleny left my daughter in tears after she ran from a soccer game to get to her appointment. Ten minutes late, denied entry, and then they charge you for the visit. The clincher is that it was very hard, actually impossible, to get Dr Lau on the phone to discuss the unhelpful nature of her front desk staff. I would recommend you go to Dr Heather Goldberger or Dr Azrak instead. read more

I didn't have a dentist for my child and a friend of mine recommended that I come here. What a blessing! The people who work at the office are all friendly and Dr. Lau found her calling - my usually skittish boy was unusually good so I even had to ask her for advice! Dr. Kevin Trotter has been my dentist for the past seven years. I have been very satisfied with the high quality dental care I have received since switching to him. The basic care (cleanings, checkups) has been great. He also did great job on my fillings and teeth whitening. I have found his staff to be professional and courteous and have not had to wait excessively for my appointment like I had to with other dentists/doctors. When I had to reschedule my appointment, they have always been very accommodating to my schedule. Because of my overall satisfaction with Dentistry at the Heights, I still go to Dr. Trotter even though I moved to CT two years ago (I work in Manhattan). I recommended him to my family and now my mother, father, brother and sister in law are all patients as well. I highly recommend Dr. Trotter if you are looking for a good dentist. read more
