The Brooklyn Kolache Co is one of my favorite places to spend a few hours either reading or getting some work done. On a nice day, their back patio is one of the best places in Brooklyn. This place is making me fat. I really need to stop coming here. I pop in because they are quick and I can grab a coffee on my morning walk with my dog (he gets tied to the gate where I can see him from the window). Except I never just grab a coffee. Damn that bake case. I end up leaving with 1 Kolache if I have any self control, 2 if I have lost it a bit, and 3 if I decided I need to "share" with "someone" at some point in my day. Besides being delicious they have incredibly nice staff. I had a man screaming at me on the street one day because I saw him harassing another woman who wasn't interested and I couldn't let it happen with out calling him out on it. His aggression turned on me and I came into Kolache Co because it seemed a safe solution. The woman at the counter saw I was a bit shaken up (the dude was still ranting outside). She offered me a Kolache for free and told me to sit in the backyard and she would tell me when he left. It was so very very appreciated. P.S. They have a great backyard. read more

How can you go wrong with handmade pastries baked every single day on site. Definitely tasted fresh and delicious. Tried the jalapeño sausage and cheese and a blueberry and sweet cheese. I'm a central Texas native, so when I found out that you could get kolaches while we were visiting relatives, I was excited to share them. They were fantastic! We ordered a couple dozen, half savory and half sweet, a few days in advance so we would be sure to get what we wanted. Autumn was very friendly and helpful getting the order set up, so all I had to do was pick them up and go. We ordered the "mini" size, however, they were the size of the kolaches we get when we're in Texas. They looked to be of handmade ingredients--no pie filling here. And they tasted like home. Doughy and sweet and savory and spicy. Not a bad one in the bunch. We brought them to a small brunch party and they were the first things to go. The next time we're visiting Brooklyn we're definitely stopping in for more! read more

My favorite is the chocolate ganache kolache--an even better version of a doughnut like pastry. The coffee is almost the best I have ever had. I will have to make a trip from the Bronx occasionally just to eat some again as these are literally worth the trip. The place is simply cool as it gets and the music is very hip and coffeehouse worthy. On a rainy day its like you are in Seattle---a nice and realistic departure from the corporate coffeeplaces which have become cliche. Friday nights they show movies at 8pm. We went to Brooklyn Kolache Co for the first time yesterday and had a wonderful experience. My fiancé and I just moved to NYC from Austin 6 months ago and are missing breakfast tacos and Tex Mex in general. We knew instantly this was a Texas establishment from the "deep in the heart of Brooklyn" slogan on the sign. The owner was very friendly and when we asked about breakfast tacos, she asked if we were from Austin. We had a conversation about Austin and sat down in the cute back room to eat. I ordered two hash brown and egg tacos and my fiancé had bacon egg and cheese. The owner accidentally gave me a chorizo taco, but gave it to my fiancé for free and gave me a new hash brown taco. Tacos are only $2.50, pretty good price! While they're not mind blowing, they're good for what they are! It's hard to find good tortillas here in Brooklyn. The owner came back to our table later to see how we liked everything and chat with us. On the way out, she also gave us a free cheese and cherry Kolache! It was delicious. So I was watching a fab food review by Andrew Zimmern about these pastries called Kolache in Houston, Texas...like all his reviews, he make my mouth water with the introduction of unique foods....not going to Houston, Texas, anytime soon, I decided to search google for the nearest Kolache joint, and low and behold there was one in Brooklyn, NY....I used to patrol this area of Brooklyn and was lucky that I was still armed...I canvassed the neighborhood and sought out a parking spot on Bedford Ave...I was pretty amazed seeing a small store front business in the enclaves of this growing Brooklyn neighborhood... Inside the location was quite quaint and homie, though small, I was informed that there was an additional eating space in the rear of the store...what did I get, I couldn't decide on what to get, so I got a dozen different Kolache's to bring home, alas the famous of all, Sweet Cheese Kolache was sold out by 11AM...so I doubled up on the Cherry Cheese Kolache, let me tell you, if I wasn't on a somewhat diet, I would have made a U-turn back to BKC and re-order...its the fluffy bread and cheese combinations mixed in with their unigue toppings that make the Kolache irresistible... Prices are reasonable ergo the box of dozen... Will most like make a weekly visit to try their hot morning pastries... read more

Nice people, good and normally-priced drip coffee, tex-czex kolaches, both sweet and savory. The have a back yard, which is a gigantic plus. It's hard to imagine that it will every be warm and sunny again, but if it is, I would go there. One day, I hope they will start selling Polish cookie-type kolaches too. read more

The kolaches here are bigger, sweeter, and denser than the ones I grew up on. I've read that the owner is from Texas, so maybe that's how they do things down there. It doesn't seem fair to judge the place without tasting the poppy seed kolache, which IMHO is the quintessential flavor. I'd definitely go back, but for people of Czech descent, kolaches really are one of those "nobody makes 'em better than my grandma" things. read more

My favorite place to work and write in the neighborhood. The kolaches are delicious, both the sweet and the savory. They have lots of seating, wifi, and a backyard with a little bit of shade, as well as outlets at every table. The staff is really nice - they'll bring your drink out to you if you're going to have to wait even a few minutes. My only complaint is caloric, because it's hard to only eat one of these and leave it at that. read more

We call these the cloud pastries-- fluffy pieces of heaven with delicious centers. You can get savory or sweet, whatever your preference.
