It's amazing to realize what is near your house and amazing. I went with a friend for a coffee and a catchup at this Kosher coffeeshop. It's spacious with strong coffee and a wide variety of savory pastries. It was late in the day so we only had coffee and tea and settled in for a catchup chat. Good strong coffee with some flavor options that do not take away from the coffee flavor (do not get a macchiato, which they no longer have listed anyhow). They use SweetLeaf coffee, if you haven't tried them do (they're in L.I.C). After a few tries and getting consistent good I opted to try food from the menu (Sabich). I definitely love their buffet like options but the menu options do not disappoint at all. Overall this is conveniently located that I'll definitely be a regular for pick me ups. The food here is pretty good, but it's the coffee that lost points for me. I ordered a Mocha and a pastry to go and it cost me $15, which personally I feel is a bit too high for my liking. I was charged for a double shot that I didn't ask for (which I'm not sure if it's required for their mochas or not) and was kinda underwhelmed by the result. I can barely taste the coffee and feel like I could get a much better mocha for cheaper down the block. Felt like I kinda wasted my money. Located in bustling Crown Heights, Almah Cafe and Bakery is a charming, warm addition to the neighborhood. Decor is on point with a mosaic of macrame, ornate wall hangings on their accent wall. There are cafe style small tables, family-sized dining tables, and some patio seating (cafe style again) out front. Seating is plentiful for such a small space, and there seems to be plenty of street parking. However, we walked over from the Utica station, and it was just about 5 minutes. If you have a baby and toddler in toe, be warned that you have to cross a major road ( although there is a decently long crosswalk). Food was phenomenal, and we were served by the absolute sweetest staff (only matched by the sweetness of the pastries, of course). The cuisine is Israeli, and the plating is decidedly Nee York in portion. Everything was delectable, and I highly recommend getting a rundown of the pastry flavors from the staff: however, no matter what you order, you won't be disappointed. We ordered a sambusak (a samosa-style pocket pastry filled to the brim with mushroom and cheese, topped with sesame), a vanilla and chocolate mini-pastry (I think it was the rugalch), and the Jaffa breakfast with dippy eggs. The sambusak filling changes depending on the day, so make sure to ask what the daily is. Pastries will be warmed to perfection in their conventional toaster, and the breakfast set comes with all the fixings, including but not limited to: harissa-like tomato spread, seasoned/cubed feta, fresh house salad, tuna salad, and more. We split everything among two people for lunch, and it was ample. There was coffee as well, so there plenty of people popping in for a caffeine kick. I will say this: when the staff bring in their own kids to eat, it's a decidedly good sign. There were also new visitors in as well, and one of them said, "This is the best pastry I've ever had," I kid you not. Highly recommend this place for visitors and locals alike. Prices are high, only the drinks are listed with price but nothing on the pastries. So I was surprised when i was paying already. Then there is no bathroom! This place was so cute, the staff were so friendly and the food delish! I was there around 10:30ish and bakery items were coming out as they were being baked fresh! What more could you ask for. I had the american BF which was a piece of sourdough with cream cheese, lox, veggies and an egg. Yum! I also shared the Jaffe BF with my friend which included a few pieces of bread, 10 dips (different cheese, olives, pickles) an egg cooked any style and a salad. Nice and fresh. They have a great selection of drinks/coffee and also orange juice. I didn't drink anything but everyone around was getting drinks. Staff are all super sweet! The baked goods look amazing. I had the chocolate croissant and a cappuccino. The pastry was very good, but the cap was more a latte. Take it, it can be difficult to do a good cappuccino when there is the choice of a size medium. Most often it can go wrong unless you are a skilled expect at creating more foam than steamed milk. To add to this level of difficulty enter almond milk instead of whole milk. Also, the coffee was not the best blend for an espresso. So, I'm giving 4-stars for the croissants. read more

Instead it was a piece of lettuce, some chummus and a slice of eggplant slapped on a hoagie roll. The avocado toast which was also supposed to be on frena bread, was half an avocado, again dumped on a hoagie roll. As you can see in the photos, the food was a total misrepresentation, unappealing, and not what we ordered. They also forgot to send one item. This place is wayyyyy overpriced for average food. A sandwich and latte cost me about $30 here, which is ridiculous. The latte wasn't great either, way too much foam. This is not a place that takes its coffee seriously. What's crazy is that I live less than a block away and never go here. This place is amazing. Where to start? Every single thing I've tasted (and I've been here more than twice a week in the last couple weeks) has been incredible. From the in house made breads to pasteries to the coffee. Incredible. Haven't tasted anything without an involuntary "yum, wow". I recommend the Jaffa breakfast, and hm...probably everything else. I work a few blocks away from Almah and was a regular. They have great Israeli pastries. I would frequent Almah 1-4x times a week for coffee, breakfast with friends and lunch for the office since they first opened. In October, I stopped in for coffee. Waited on line paid and grabbed my coffee to sit down. Before my butt hit the chair I heard the barista yell out - I need to see your vaccine card if you want to sit down. This is not Germany nor is it 1939. And there is no reason for you to act like the gestapo. I do not need to show you anything to sit in a cafe. I have since found other spots that allow me to drink coffee and sit with my thoughts without anyone breathing down my neck and HIPPA violations read more
