Best part was the server, super nice and helpful. Plus the prices were very reasonable. The chicken sandwich is a thin style panko crusted. The server let me to a mash up version of the sandwich to have havarti on the chicken. The bun is good but a little thick for meat to bread ratio for me. I should have moved both halves of the chicken onto one side of bread I think I would been happier. I did like the tots which are harder to find these days. The salad was just okay. The description sounded better than reality. Seemed like a good locals crowd and two small pool tables in a side room. The music is louder so not the best place for conversation. I just realized that I have never reviewed one of my most favorite spots in Portland! I have eaten and been a customer of the Slingshot for about 5 years, and in those years I have never eaten a bad meal, or had a bad experience there ever. I outright crave the beet salad with its wonderful candied walnuts and soft cheese. The burgers are wonderful and messy. The chili is to die for, and they always have the good CBD seltzers! The bartenders are always nice, and the pinball machines are amazing! I have also bought a piece of art there as well! I love that they support local artists! I highly recommend The Slingshot Lounge to anyone looking for a cool Portland spot to drink, eat or play pinball or pool! They also have an amazing back outdoor area that is lovely to hang out in the Summer! read more

Slingshot is the best. I'm hesitant to review it, because if one of you readers takes my favorite booth, I will be so sad! Inside, on one side, are big, big vinyl booths with long tables - perfect for playing scrabble on, or writing your next research paper, while having a nosh. The food I've had has all been super delicious. The veggie burger did require a fork, but so what?!! The bartenders are master drink makers, and are helpful. Also, the BEST blue slushie in PDX, hands down. Blue slushies are my love language. The other half of the inside has some seating and stand-up tables with pinball. All in all, it is a nice, big space that stays cool. They have one outside for smokers, which was like walking into the old smoking areas in airports. Remember those? Maybe not. Don't lose heart - the side of Slingshot has plenty of park- like tables with benches, and a covering to filter out some of the sun/light sprinkles/snow we get in Portland. In midweek and had a nice visit. I'm not a beer person, but they have bunches of beer on tap and I have a sense the clientele leans towards beer. I hear they have a good selection. Service was prompt and attentive, checking in frequently. Drinks and food came quickly. This was a favorite place to get a dirty martini...I often ask for extra dirty...but this time it was a brown drink delivered and too much dirty! I did drink it but asked for less the next round and all was correct. They had onion rings for a special and they should absolutely continue them! Beer battered, crispy, the onions were perfect inside...some of the best I've had, ever. I ordered the fried cauliflower and for some reason, the last two times I've had it, it doesn't seem the same as pre-covid. Either it's changed some or I remember it differently. That said, I'm glad it's back! It's still tasty and I'll still order it. We also had the Caesar salad...standard. Large portion. Tasty. This is a nice hangout. Ok so I don't go to bars often. But this place is pretty legit. It's nice and spacious. They have two pool tables, a photo booth, a few pinball machines and a couple of other arcade game. There were about 8 of us and we found seating with no issues at about 5pm on a Friday night for Happy Hour. By the time we left around 9:30pm, the place was packed. It was loud and fabulous and welcoming and comfortable. Happy hour pricing is decent and service was normal. The bartenders were friendly and worked their butts off. I went in with my PERFECTLY LEGAL ID. My friend and I, who both look young, order our drinks like normal mature adults do. For some insane reason, the two bartenders spend far too long examining the IDs and chatting with each other under the bar. They serve us our drinks and we take them to our table. When we sit down, I noticed that instead of being served my Henry beer I was served a nonalcoholic Old Milwaukee. Both my friend and I taste her vodka soda and agree that there is no alcohol in it. We were both charged full price and left tips. Furious, we stormed out. The disrespect was far too much! If you believed our IDs to be fake (which they weren't!), just refuse to serve us instead of taking our money. The bartenders were unprofessional scam artists. I understand we look young but our IDs are legal and if you truly questioned it that much, you should have acted professionally and asked for a second form of identification. Slingshot in a nutshell - The food is better than you'd expect from the surroundings. I put it on par with C Bar and Night Light Lounge as a nice in between spot to drink when you don't want a fancy night out or a pub crawl. My favorite items on the menu are their burgers, tomato toast and desserts from Sweetness Bakery just up the street. I made a few attempts to eat at Foster Burger when it first opened last year, but refused to wait in long lines. Slingshot was my back-up plan and I never had cause to be disappointed. If Slingshot was located on Hawthorne, I'm convinced it would be a hot spot. But, because it is located a couple blocks from Foster Burger in the hit-or-miss section of Foster Blvd., it continues to fly below the radar. I've been a couple times for brunch on a Sunday and had it almost all to myself. This was one of my favorite lounges in 2010. A great place to hang out with a friend at the bar or with a large group when you can take over the back room. I just returned twice this month for cocktails with a large group in the evening and then a more intimate brunch with friends a few days later. In both cases, service was fine and prices are definitely reasonable. It is too nice for a dive bar, but also not an upscale lounge. And what girl doesn't swoon over a wall full of Yakuza tattoos? That combined with a doorknob that is identical to the feminine 80s brass swirly doorknobs at my house make me smile. Perhaps they grabbed one of my donations to Goodwill as part of my de-brass my house campaign? Their food is pretty kick ass. A doorknob with a little Portland style is in order. read more

I can't remember the last time I was so excited about a bar. It may have been the Charlie Horse back home when I turned 21. But who can remember that far back? Or their 21st birthday, for that matter? After being wildly disappointed by a nearby burger joint, The Bud and I set out in search of a decent neighborhood burger option. Surprisingly, we found it just a hop, skip, and a jump up Foster Boulevard, here at the Slingshot Lounge. But this place is about so much more than just burgers. First, there's the dual atmosphere. The bar side is dark. It's about eating and drinking and taking a load off. You can do so at the bar itself, or in one of the massive booths that easily fits 8 people, or 6 people and a cat. If you are looking for more to do than eat and drink, the other side of the house may be for you. Their game room has shuffleboard, air hockey, foosball, pinball, pool. Get it? It's a game room. There's crap to do besides eat and drink. Enjoy. The simple paper menu, labeled "food" in case you're confused, contains all the ingredients for a delicious meal. I highly recommend the tomato toast. Thick sliced country bread toasted beautifully and topped with a tomato garlic vinegar mixture that positively screams with garlic. Delicious. Vampires be gone. Now let's talk burgers. Fucking phenomenal. I had mine with bacon, avocado, cheddar, and exquisitely caramelized onions that almost made me cry a little they were so good. The waitress mentioned that brandy is involved in the caramelizing process. It works. Bacon was thick cut and cooked perfectly. None of that limp wimpy stuff here, thanks. And if all that isn't enough food for you, this place serves some of the best desserts in town. They're made by Kay at the Sweetness Bakery and Café around the corner. The Bud and I split the chocolate cream pie, and I swear if we weren't in a public place, we might have licked the plate clean. Thankfully, what passes for manners in Portland (or at least in our house) took over and we used our fingers to clean the plate and discretely licked them when we thought no one was looking. 1am after a Friday night movie and need some grub in the Foster area. My infamous Yelp friend Joe M. said we can't go wrong by going to Slinghot and all the other reviews from trusted Yelpers Like Don, Anna, Jessica, and Ron. First impressions: - Big bar with lots of open space - it would take at least a hundred people to really make this place feel anything close, - Interior decor is a little rough around the edges but still above average for Fo-Po (dim lighting, local art/photos on the wall, no TVs on the walls, a couple pool tables and video games in the back) - Nice bartender and pretty laid-back patrons - Decent bar menu with mostly sandwiches & burgers ranging from ~$7-10 (fries extra $1) - Most of the food stated to be locally sourced (Painted Hills beef, An Xuyen Bakery rolls) Overall this place seems like a decent 3-4 star place...until I got my avocado bacon cheeseburger. The beef, cheese, and pepper fries were good, and the bacon & bun were great, but I've NEVER tasted such an unripe avocado in my life! It was so hard that I had difficulty piercing it with a toothpick, it was literally crunchy when you chewed it, and I'm fairly certain it had to be peeled with a vegetable peeler instead of dug out with spoon (I could see the vertical peeler lines)!! I had Joe M try it to make sure I wasn't being too picky and even he had to SPIT IT OUT (the first time I've seen him unable to eat something :-)!!! I'm not sure if chef was just completely oblivious to what a ripe avocado should be, or if he thought that by 1am we would all be drunk and wouldn't care/notice, but either way it was unacceptable and made the burger. Honestly, I liked everything else about the bar and burger, but getting some wrong as basic as that was pretty disappointing.
