All around the food is good, and they make an excellent breakfast sandwich that is hard to beat. Prices are hit or miss, but what did you expect? I like the staff. And fuck me, that Portobello sandwich is tasty. The baked goods are incredible. Try the monster cookie. Or the Peanut Butter Bomb. Hell, it's ALL good. In regard to all the negatives floating around here: If you want super quick and friendly delivery, don't order during lunch/dinner rush, and don't order during bad weather (because, clearly, that's when everyone else is hungry, and the delivery courier rides a bike. He/She can only move so fast.) Avoid the online delivery fees by calling in your order--You'll also be able to avoid ordering things that are out of stock. It's a little store. these people are crazy! if you go into the standard and act like a normal human who is nice and sweet, the cashiers are amazing. ive literally made like 5 friends thru going to the standard and chatting up with the cashiers like they are human, and not some robot who lives to serve me. also, the delivery guys are super nice and are overworked. why dont you try riding yr bike all day and night for one dollar tips? also, maybe a year ago they had problems with running out of bagels, but they apparently took care of it and have always had bagels everytime i want one. of course, im not a drunk who expects someone to make me a bagel at 5 pm. so maybe thats why. also their food is AMAZINNNGGG. their deli mac is like my favorite food in the world, and i even have my boss addicted to their Israeli couscous. dont believe the bad reviews of the spoiled and appreciate it for what it is, a place around the corner who has stumptown and vegan food. read more

Buyer beware. Or at least delivery buyer beware. Ordered the Mac and cheese and it came in a box. Would have been nice to know that the restaurant was selling Kraft Mac and cheese. They don't accept credit cards for deliver, which is fine, but when you send the delivery guy he should carry change. I had to go to the store with him to break a twenty. I'm glad to have vegan options in the neighborhood. I've both gone in person and ordered from Seamless. Sometimes the Seamless is a little slow, but I've never had any serious issues like some of the others have (and they always call me if something I ordered isn't available). This could be because I always tip well (though I'm not accusing anyone else here of not tipping well). The food is pretty decent. The vegan sandwiches are creative, but aren't the most flavorful on the planet (I think it's the doughy bread). They sometimes have Dun-Well vegan donuts, which are also great. The vegan cookies are kind of more like banana bread, but are okay, too. I've never had coffee, hot drinks, or juice there, only bottled tea, so I can't opine on the quality or freshness of anything else. read more

After my first few experiences at the Brooklyn Standard, I wanted to come on here and furiously chide them for their lackluster service and overpriced items. Alas, like a good little Yelper, I've given them dozens of chances sine then, before I publicly posted my opinions. Unfortunately, my opinion hasn't changed much in my half-year of living down the block. There are a few positives I'd like to point out, before getting into my serious gripes with this convenient little shoppe that I've WANTED to love, but simply cannot. First and foremost, You've gotta dig on their selection of local artisanal products that we Brooklynites love so much. I'm talking Stumptown Coffee, Van Leeuwen, Brooklyn Brine, Slantshack Jerky, BK Kombucha, Local Organic Dairy Products, et cetera. They have a great selection of all that kinda stuff, but it's all pricey, like the rest of the store. The sandwiches and prepared salads are all relatively creative and tasty, but you can get similar products all over northern Brooklyn for cheaper. I'm pretty sure you pay extra to see words like "aoli" on the menu, and for the Adirondack chair out front. I must point out that I have had a few nice experiences in there with the staff. For example, I just needed a small amount of milk one time, and didn't have $5 on me to purchase their organic free range hudson valley quart of milk (the only option). Very kindly, the girl behind the counter hooked me up with a coffee cup full of said sustainable milk for $1. Thanks lady! Sadly, %75 of the times I go into The Brooklyn Standard, I get the vibe that the people behind the counter couldn't possibly feel less enthused. My #1 gripe with this store is their breakfast. All of their breakfast sandwiches are at least $1 more than any other deli on the block, and I can't say the ingredients justify the price. Their bacon, egg and cheese is pathetic. Literally, two measly strips of what seemed to be microwave bacon. I am usually still hungry after eating breakfast there. Would you care for an orange juice with that? No joke, three dollars for a 6 oz bottle of OJ, five dollars for 12 0z bottle. It looks high-grade, but c'mon, I need a cheaper option. Tropicana will usually do me just fine. Especially when I'm paying $4 for two small eggs and two strips of bacon on a tiny roll. The coffee is the only saving grace. Oh, and no credit card minimum. Overall....."meh. I've experienced better". Will I be back? Sure, I'll stop in from time to time to grab a a few quick things, or a sandwich. I just don't expect service with a smile, or any great deals. read more

When I realized Brooklyn Standard sold Vegan Treats cakes and whoppie pies I thought I hit the jackpot. Being Lactose intolerant, delicious cake is hard to find. I've purchased four whole cakes in the span of a year for birthday celebrations. In addition to individual slices. Today I went to purchase a whole Vegan Treats Cookies & Creme Cake for a Birthday celebration. The young lady at the register stated she was new and needed to ask how much the cake would be. She then returns stating it's the last cake and She cannot sell it whole. So I asked why?? Would it matter if I purchased individual slices??‍She then Offered to call the manager and ask. Few minutes later another young lady claiming to have worked there for years stated that this was store policy. I stated I'd been here before and have purchased whole cakes. NEVER have I been informed of this policy. She continued stating No she can't sell the whole cake. So I'm wondering is it because you'd get more money per slice? Is it that your looking out for any future customer that may want to purchase a slice(Prior to the next shipment)?? I thought the point of having products FOR SALE is to sell it for profit. It's Friday night, if your order is made every Monday and delivered within the week. Why not sell the cake?? So I left irritated I then decided while driving home I wouldn't show up empty handed for my friends birthday and went to the Grand ave location where I purchased 8 individual slices of cake (this location didn't have a whole cake available) Neither young ladies at the Nassau Location offered to sell me individual slices. Instead they let a loyal customer walk out the door empty handed. I will NEVER come to the Nassau location again. Their vegetarian sandwiches are so so SO good, and everything is so reasonably priced that I end up getting delivery frequently (they got rid of the two tables in the store; I guess they solved that problem!). i love this place. i live literally up the street and they never give me crap for ordering online (when I'm too hungover to see the light of day)...i can have bacon, eggs and other groceries delivered to my house, being lazy is so easy! the sandwiches, divine. the greenpoint is my favvvoorite not a big coffee girl, but my friend loves their lattes. their bakery is so good (although the Polish bakeries in the area are much cheaper...) PLUS they have a HUGE selection of gluten-free options, like cookies, pasta, salads, etc! every time I order online and they are out of something, they ALWAYS call to see what I would like substituted. which is, in my opinion, pretty awesome. they're all super-nice and make super-great food. yay, brooklyn standard, my new true love. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. I ordered a breakfast delivery and an hour late it still didn't arrive. I called them, and the girl on the phone told me that their delivery guy never showed up. No one bothered to call me and let me know, and I would have been waiting all day if I never called. The girl started telling me that she came in to work late because she had a doctor's appointment, as if that has anything to do with me. The entire attitude was very careless and unconcerned. If I knew that their delivery guy didn't show up, I would have ordered from another place sooner instead of starving all morning. This place is the worst. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Greenpoint. I usually come here for breakfast on my way to work or lunch on the weekends. They have a great variety of food - from vegan to ridiculously meaty to random grocery items. Everything I've had here has been very fresh. The egg sandwich, for example, has a real egg - not the eggs in a carton you'll find at most any other place. The prices are totally reasonable too. I'll take a $3 breakfast sandwich or a $5 smoothie any day. Granted, the minute you start adding on items, the less excited you'll be about your bill. My go-to eats here are the Avocado Sandwich, the smoothie with mango, ginger & kale, or the smoothie with PB, ice coffee, almond milk, & banana. The staff is perfectly friendly, especially the juice/smoothie crew. They always greet me with a smile, even when the store is packed! read more

If you are lactose-intolerant or vegan, you need to get yourself to Brooklyn to eat their Cali breakfast bagel. Vegan sausage or tempeh (go sausage), a slathering of vegan cream cheese, basil, and tomato on a thick/soft/crunchy/perfect NY bagel. Oh my goodness. I was in heaven. I was disappointed they didn't have espresso, until I had the coffee. They had hempmilk for their Stumptown coffee, which made it into one of the best java's I've had since I left Seattle. Whaaaat. My boyfriend said it was the best drip coffee he's ever had. (He doesn't throw such compliments out willy-nilly, either. My jaw dropped when he said that, actually.) It is tasty and reasonably priced. Not sure about the other items on the menu, but they sound good and are priced to sell. They even have a grocery-type section which was stocked with vegan/veggie to-go items and staples. I was so grateful to land on such a solid cafe my first try in Brooklyn. One suggestion/warning: I wish they had somewhere to sit and enjoy their offerings... Unless you don't mind a bench outside (if it's not taken), you're up a creek. read more

Currently, I'm exiled in Greenpoint for work (don't ask...). I'm a girl, with a corporate card, in need of lunch. Or coffee. Or both. Delivery is available via Seamless. It's fast-- way faster than the 30-45 minute window listed. The order was accurate (two sandwiches, 2 beverage, one thing of chips). My tuna nicoise sandwich was good. I scarfed it in a rush. What I remember seeing was good. Bread was good. I'd eat it again. Prices were fine, I think, but frankly, I wasn't paying attention. Like every other freaking place, they have Stumptown. I apparently am the only person on the planet who freaking hates Stumptown. Less for its flavor and more for a host of associations it conjures. Whatever. Even though this coffee is Stumptown, it's OK. The coffee prices went up significantly recently-- a small coffee, which is actually quite small, is $1.50 now, up from $1. I'll still keep drinking it, and for basic coffee, I prefer Brooklyn Standard over the Cafe Royal, which is basically right up the street. So, fine place for sandwiches and coffee. read more

Juice here is exceptional and not overpriced. I love the vegan bahn mi sandwich, so yummy. Also the standard lox on bagel, yum. I'm not a big fan of stumptown coffee and their groceries are a bit pricey, but actually kind of standard for the convenience and quality. Definitely recommend the juice and sandwiches! read more

Great food, nice people working. The owner is one of the nicest business owners in the neighborhood that I've met. It gets busy on weekends, sure, so I can see how some people can get frustrated. This is like my fourth review of B standard. I've just added 2 stars for improvements. I was really let down in the past but they have become much more organized and the last few times I went the line was moving in a fair and orderly fashion and no orders were lost. they have more people behind the counter, a new numbering system for orders, and each person behind the counter seems to have a single role that allows them to complete a task without everybody slipping into outer-space midway through an order like in past. OK I'm not sure why there's so much hate for this place because it's my favorite spot. I live a few blocks away and when I first moved here, it was the reason I didn't starve. No exaggeration, I saw the people who work here more then my roommates. The staff has always been efficient and pleasant, even extra friendly at times. My order has always arrived correctly. I've tried all their vegan sandwiches and been satisfied with all of them. Plus they will veganize everything they can. Actually, the reason I was compelled to write this was because I just finished a vegan version of The Classic. Go get one. I'm obsessed and have high standards when it comes to sandwiches. I go here A LOT and this place has never once failed me. Stumptown coffee, gluten-free &/or vegan deserts, delicious & varied sandwiches and random but always good food at dinner time. It can be... nay, it IS infuriating having to put up with clueless art school drop out cashiers with no concept of customer service in their closed, abstract brains, especially while the hard working, uncomplaining Hispanic crew knocks it out on the short order grill... which, long story short, can be worth the heartache for a huge biscuit with egg and ham. DO NOT buy the crazy over-priced beer... walk 1/4 block and get the same 6-pack for $5 less. Seriously, just ordered on delivery.com and ( as usual) , Brooklyn Standard didn't have one of the things on the menu and called me to ask for a replacement.When i told her to hold on for one sec while i looked at the menu, she immediately grew agitated and started going "hellloooo" after a very brief silence. I asked her again to hold for one second, and she in a really snotty tone said " can you just call back when you decide? She kept cutting me off and when i asked her about another salad and i finally relented to another item just to stop talking to her. Never again brooklyn standard. So sick of this stupid attitude.
