I regularly worked with cadence in private lessons. At first it was fine. I came in because I was feeling deeply inflamed constantly and just wanting to get my health together. She recommended I not take vitamins and not to eat so much meat. Well it turns out I was anemic and had undiagnosed hashimotos disease. I was so deeply sick I won't even get into how bad my symptoms were and none of these things rung a bell to this person who sees herself as a heath guru / influencer? She also was super preachy and really tried to push me into having extra curricular activities. Again, I was deeply sick, the worst I felt in my life, and she would really guilt trip me and say that she didn't think I was sick but that my issues were because I was hyperfocusing because I didn't have enough hobbies LOL. My antibodies were actually 1,000+ and I was deficient in several vitamins and minerals. I will never fall for another health influencer gimmick again in my life. read more

Woke up feeling really tight and sore from a tough workout week, so I took their Facial Release class via class pass. Instructor/owner was very knowledgeable and friendly. I am Matt, I am in my late twenties. I was serious and conscientious and I had a lot of health problems (or "problems") since I was young. When I decided to have an honest conversation with myself about my health, I walked into Brooklyn Strength and asked about what they do. Cadence, the owner, listened to me and paired me up with a trainer, whose ability to communicate honestly with humor and humility won me over and I began a sometimes three times-weekly routine. I have worked with four of their trainers now. One year later I am in the best shape of my life. As a bonus, I was able to defend myself against a late-night attacker, who fled as I put my fists into position as I was taught learning boxing and muay thai. Can't say enough. Excellent studio. I've taken a private here at the BK heights location (which was a bit awkward to be 100% honest, but the workout was tough, challenging and absolutely worth the money and time), and I've taken group classes at their Cobble Hill location, which were excellent. The instructions were great and very clear, all movements felt very safe, and the class went by quickly. They also do a Fascia release class, which is so unique and AMAZING. I highly recommend it to anyone dealing with old injuries / muscle tightness. The instructors at this place are extremely knowledgeable and treat the mind & body as one. Some Pilates places (I won't name them) can be a little too mechanical and focused on getting a curriculum 'done' during the class hour, forgetting all about form and proper muscle engagement. Not Brooklyn Strength. They are really different. My plan is to try another private here, with a different instructor this time (the owner or Kit), and continue the group classes whenever my schedule allows it. Bottom line is: GO!! read more

This is a gem of a studio. I took a foot class w/Cadence several weeks ago, and she was totally charming, as well as informative. Then yesterday I took a class with Kit B, and I woke up this morning without back pain for the first time in like a year. She was intent on figuring out what was going on w/my (& my friend's) various body issues, and found the spot-on most painful (lol) and helpful stretches/strengtheners to suit us. It really was like consulting with a great physical therapist. She is meticulous about form, while still being fun and funny. These people know their stuff -- so refreshing! The trainers at this place are great, however they re-signed me up for a 3 month class package without telling me and I really feel like they stole around 1K from me. They also have problems retaining trainers because the management seems more into expanding than taking care of details at the current studio. I asked my trainer many times when the end date of my package was however, about two month after I stopped going, I found three very large charges from them on my credit card. I had been assured that they would never charge my card without asking me, and when I called up about it they said that that I had signed up for a new 3 month package and the end date they told me wasn't correct. They refused to refund the two months I hadn't been attending classes that had gone by. This is a very small studio, and they always had called when I was late before but NEVER called me during these two months to find out where I was. The trainer I was working with left because of problems with the management. There was a leak in the ceiling that was never fixed. Twice, the door was locked in the winter and couldn't be opened. They gave me something free to compensate, but it is indicative of the greater problems with the studio. The scheduling system doesn't seem to work very well, and it is very hard to communicate with them to fix simple problems like being late/ scheduling as you can't contact the trainers directly. Had they not charged me for classes I never took, I would have overlooked the smaller things above that annoyed me because the trainers are good and can do a custom mix of pilates, personal training, etc. read more

This is a review for Brooklyn Strength's location on Pacific Street - just took my third class and though it is a summer weekend when everyone else in Brooklyn decided to bail on class, the owner Cadence just gave me a personalized full-body workout. Not only is she super thorough and detailed but her descriptions of each exercise are articulate and super helpful. My name is Alex, and I used to be a gym junkie. I admit it. I was in the gym every morning for 1hr, usually at 6am before work and I used to do endless cardio, weight training and resistance. I even worked with a personal trainer, although I quit doing that because I didn't feel like my trainer really even cared about my fitness as much as their own! It was a 'well known' gym which I will not name and I felt like every other athletic clone there, without a name. Fast forward to my discovery of Brooklyn Strength. My first introduction to Cadence, the owner and I thought "she knows what she is talking about" In my very first lesson, she taught me more about the body than I learned in high-school biology. She helped me understand why my long and repetitive workouts were harming me more than getting me in shape. One side of my body is stronger than the other (which is true for many of us) and our one-on-one pilates sessions have helped correct that. After my first session there was a visible improvement in my step - re-balanced and better posture. At my second session, Cadence whipped out a Flip camera so that she could document my progress and show me the changes and improvements I achieve over time. I love this personal touch. I get more out of one hour of concentrated personal training and pilates at Brooklyn Strength than I would out of several days of sweating at a regular gym. And, did I mention all of the staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgable? They carry some great eco-athletic products such as recycled yoga mats, stylish workout clothes and my favorite organic holistic skincare line Dr. Alkaitis which I cannot find anywhere else in Brooklyn! Everything in the gym - from the floors to the hot towels and hangers they use are recycled and sustainable. The studio is clean and extremely environmentally conscious! In addition, they support other small businesses, selling a range of healthy and environmentally friendly products. Everyone is so warm and welcoming there yet also is very serious and devoted to physical fitness. Since joining, I have started a regimen of Pilates once a week and Personal training once a week. First and foremost I am BEYOND confused about these negative reviews! I absolutely adore Brooklyn strength and all of their trainers. I've been working with the owner Cadence for over a year now and my life has entirely changed. I have lost tons of weight gained tons of muscle and most importantly feel great. Cadence is SO educated about health fitness and just overall wellbeing. The studio is relaxed, clean and perfect for someone like me who doesn't want to see 100 other people at a crowded loud gym. Every workout I'm told to do Cadence has done herself she explains everything thoroughly and gives great advice. She has worked with my specific needs and has tailored every work out to me, this place is an absolute treasure and I wouldn't trade it for any other gym. It is such a friendly atmosphere without the scary demanding gym vibe. I have 3 sessions a week with Cadence and always look forward to them not only for the work out or her fitness expertise but her all around personality is wonderful to be around. If you want the best Pilates teachers and classes for a reasonable price, look no further than Brooklyn Strength. This lovely, clean studio is equipped with springboards, mats, blocks, magic circles, kettle balls, and other useful apparatus, and the highly trained, caring instructors know how and when to best use it. Although I have been practicing Pilates for a long time, since becoming a regular at Brooklyn Strength, my knowledge and health have dramatically increased. I am stronger, leaner, more resilient, and better informed. What you get at Brooklyn Strength is so much more than toned muscles - you get a deep understanding of how fitness works. In case it's not obvious, I love this place and its teachers. I most regularly take class with Gregory, who is an extraordinarily gifted provider of insight and cues that will change how you move and stand still. Cadence and Manuel, the studio founders, are absolutely wonderful - they are skilled teachers and athletes who care about form and strength and their clients, which makes for meaningful results. I took my first springboard class at Brooklyn Strength's Cobble Hill studio and it was fantastic! I had never used a springboard before and was worried that I'd have trouble adjusting the equipment, but my concerns evaporated as soon as the class began. The springboard is pleasing both to the eye and to the touch, made of smooth wood, shiny chrome springs, and clips that are no different from the one at the end of my dog's leash. There's nothing complicated about it. In fact its elegant simplicity, and the teacher's excellent instruction made it an amazing tool for a creative, thorough, full-body workout. The class was perfectly paced, filled with a variety of movement that was challenging and pure fun, and the music was unobtrusive, yet energizing. The instructor's encouragement was sincere, and he maintained a vigilant eye on my form, making sure I was working the correct muscles while protecting me from potential injury. I've worked in the area of Brooklyn Strength for the last 2 years and always walked by but never went in . I had 3 slipped disks in my lower back which bulged leaving me bed ridden and in an unbelievable amount of pain this past October . My neurologist sent me to physical therapy and rehab but also suggested that I try Pilates. After speaking with a friend who goes to Brooklyn Strength with her husband, I decided to check it out . It is now six months later and I could not be happier. I've worked with a number of instructors and love them all. They are all well trained and are constantly attending training to stay at the top of their craft. When I first came in, Cadence and my instructor spent time talking to me to get to know my issues. They reviewed my MRI and set up a plan of action. I had a couple of session where my regular instructor could not meet with me but she took the time to talk with her replacement to insure that we were on the same page with my rehabilitation. I always look forward to my sessions because I know that I will leave feeling 5 times better than when I walked in and will go home with exercises to work on. I am at a point now where I have made a shift in my work from rehab to working out. and could not be happier with my progress. It is the personal touch, as well as the well informed staff which makes this studio. I have nothing but amazing things to say about every aspect of my time here. read more

Simply put this place is horrible. Thrown together space. Know it all attitude from owner and staff when their skills can be described as mediocre at best. Despite claims on their website of being a highly experienced and educated facility the entire place reeks of inexperience and any type of actual qualifications in their supposed areas of expertise remain to be seen. The young woman that said she was the studio manager when I visited could not explain the services offered in an in depth manner and when asked questions she took on a very stand offish attitude when her lack of knowledge was questioned. She had no problem though throwing a pricing schedule at me. Very amateurish behavior as well as not building any confidence that these people know what they are doing. A lot of talk with very little substance. Atrocious business conduct and outrageously high pricing for a below par staff, services and facility. There are plenty of other options to explore in Brooklyn Heights including several other studios offering pilates, personal training, yoga etc. Even the large gym services of the Brooklyn Heights Equinox location is a better alternative then this place. Save your time and money and stay far away from Brooklyn Strength. read more
