My Royal Enfield Meteor motorcycle came with "sidewinder" (lasercut) keys. I'd never seen one before. And when I tried to get local locksmiths to cut a duplicate they balked. Riddle me this: why is a carburetor better than a throttle body (EFI fuel injection)? Because you can easily rejet the carb yourself if you modify your exhaust. Now what does this mean? Every locksmith on Staten Island said that they couldn't cut my key because the map wasn't in their database, i.e., they all have computerized lasercut key cutting machines. As a programmer I say, screw technology. I tried in vain to find a locksmith who was willing and able. I contacted Royal Enfield North America and Brett, who is a good man, said there is a locksmith in Milwaukee who could do it for $35 a key. I would have to mail my OEM blanks (purchased from Hitchcock's Motorcycles in the UK) and my original. I redoubled my efforts to find someone local. It was tedious. But most people don't realise how close they are to success when they quit. Finally, I found a locksmith with a mechanical sidewinder cutting machine. From Staten Island I took the Belt Parkway East to Flatbush Avenue (North) and hung a right on Avenue N. Brooklyn's Best is located on the corner of Avenue N and 48th Street. There's metered parking so that makes it easy. Ronald put my original and my blank in his machine and several times removed them both to eye up the cut. A short time later I had a duplicate. And the cost? $15 USD. Ronald and Michael are no BS kinda guys, straight outta Brooklyn. And Brooklyn's Best is just that. Highly recommended. read more

We went looking for a shovel and we're shocked to see it cost $40.00! We decided to go to Doody's in Sheepshead Bay. For our $40.00 we got 3 shovels, a bag of salt for the driveway, a windshield brush for the car and a drain basket for the kitchen sink. I think price gouging is wrong especially in these tough times. read more

My front door lock of twenty years broke last night. Seems a pin on the deadbolt broke and locked us in. We removed the lock and brought it to the store today. I thought I would have to replace the whole lock and have the new one rekeyed. They were very helpful and found the right size replacement deadbolt part. Same size and brand. What I thought would cost me $100 was only $10 and a real easy install. Thank you very much. They were all wearing masks so I felt very safe inside. read more

The service person (Christopher Burgos) who came out, relayed back and forth with his 'central' to change the price and then constantly threaten to call the police on me when the price skyrocketed over $700 and the original price was less than $100. I've been in this store about 5-6 times over the last two years, but our once relationship is as dead as your fathers's cassette deck. I heard salty language--very strong salty in there before on other occasions, but last week two guys behind the counter were complaining on how the "Jews" were root of the "problem." They also verbally denigrated "black people" even though a black man works there occasionally. One of the managers or owners who is always there, has a constant mean attitude. If I take to looking at items, or asking questions, he seems annoyed. I know I am not the only ever to experience this. The store is filled with dust covered remnants of old tools and parts, and seems to be a fossil. Friendly customer service is not required in my book, but normal civility is, and the former doesn't include talking about your customers in disparagingly terms. read more

This store saved our lives. We needed face coverings urgently and this store was the only one in town that was selling them at a normal price and not gouging. We met the owner named Alan and he told us his mission is to help all of Brooklyn with his stores by importing these masks straight from the factories and supplying them to people at normal prices. We ended up get a few copies for my keys, buying some tools and making a great friend. I was disappointed in reading some of the other reviews because my experience is so different. I don't make many regular purchases here but this is the only place I will go to make key copies. I work in real estate and need key copies quite often. From the simplest to the multilock type, this locksmith has always been reliable in making keys that work perfectly... Cant tell you how many keys I purchased from home depot and other locksmiths that went right to the trash. Additionally, the staff has always been friendly and very helpful when I had questions. Last thing.. yesterday I followed my elderly and disoriented dad into the store, suspicious of what he was up to. I caught the gentleman helping him treating him with such kindness and respect, I was so grateful. Only later did the gentleman realize I was his daughter. Came in about 2 weeks ago for a 50$ deadbolt which I paid for in cash. I didnt end up needing it, so I came back to return it. I got back 40$. Appearently there's a 20% restock fee. The sign in the store for it is covered, not visible, and as an experienced hardware store employee at 2 locations, not once have I heard of a restock fee, not even in the city. Went to Lowe's on ave U, curtious person cut me the key. when I asked the price. He said, it's free to cut the key, we only charge when you buy our key blank. Screw this place. Asked them to cut a key for me but refused. Made some BS excuse that they don't cut online keys because it "damages their machine" (BS it's an OEM key) but apparently the machine is OK if I purchase a key from them. Oh, and they wanted to program it and refused when I said I can do it myself. read more

I'm appalled at what just conspired. I called the company to explain that my tenant was just locked out of her apartment and ask if they can come help her. I asked how much this will cost and he said it would be $45 for just showing up and then whatever the cost of the work. I proceeded to ask what that amount could be from what $ to what $. He started saying something about 45 plus 75 depending on what work needed to be done, but when I tried to clarify further he hung up on me. That should have been my red flag. Still, my tenant was locked out and I was desperate. I called back and asked him to pls send someone right away. The locksmith, to his credit, showed up very quickly and realized there was nothing wrong w the door and my tenant simply didn't know how to use one of the locks properly. He called me and explained that everything was fine and in working order and my bill is $163 and change. What?! For driving two blocks and realizing the door isn't broken? I told him I wasn't aware that their minimum is $150 , that I tried to understand the prices on the phone and the dispatcher never told me this. I even said let's be reasonable and come up with a reasonable number. He was super arrogant and threatened me telling me what he would do if we didn't pay. I was very respectful and tried to talk to him about this and he wouldn't hear me out and just kept threatening us. My tenant was afraid for her kids and repeatedly told him he was being hostile. It was a truly scary situation. He even told me I should be grateful he didn't come and lie that we have a broken lock and drill it out and charge us $375 plus. Seriously? I should be grateful that a legal company didn't try to scheme me?! Gross. We paid the man, even though he didn't deserve it. Had they been upfront with me I would have booked them and known what to expect or I wouldn't have wasted their time. I just spent the last 30 minutes crying from this awful experience. Alan, I never said I have bed bugs! This purchase was preventative! I haven't seen a bed bug! I was told that only you can return or exchange...no one else! you are never there. I even tried looking for you at other locations! Plus I was leaving phone messages at several locations. 1/25/16 after seeing owner's old comment original review: My experience is at the Avenue N store. There are other locations...all the same owner, Alan P. Butrico. I bought a mattress cover that is supposed to keep out the bed bugs. I put it on the bed, added a mattress pad and my set of sheets. A few months later when it was time to turn the mattress, I saw that the mattress cover I bought from Brooklyn's Best was not strong, in fact had a hole in it [how do you keep the bed bugs out?], and the surface was separating. It looked like everytime I turned part of the top layer was peeling. When I attempted to take it back I was told that only the owner could make a decision about a return. I only want to exchange it! I have made multiple attempts, and at other locations, to call and find Alan. And I hear he's hard to find. I'd call Avenue N and they'd guess that he was at the Coney Island Avenue store so I'd go there. No Alan. I discourage anyone from doing business with Brooklyn's Best since they obviously don't stand behind their merchandise. They do not operate in a way that's good consumerism. read more

Needed a few multi-locks changed, went there to ask questions & see what they could do for me. Attempted to speak to Kevin. (He was the only one who supposedly could help me) He would NOT get off the phone. Just kept taking one call after another. When I was able to get his attention for a second he would kinda of answer but not really. I was purchasing expensive locks I tried to ask him prices and he would just come up with random numbers. I felt that doing business with this place was a HUGE mistake. Found another locksmith who was a real pleasure to work with. Answered my ?, gave me a decent price, no drama - have all new Multi-locks and a new locksmith!!! Honestly - if you don't like dealing with people then why are you in business? Try to go to the neighborhood stores to do business instead of the big chain stores. There not so friendly here everything is like they are doing you a favor by helping you . The individuals at Brooklyn's Best are uninformed and extremely unprofessional. I called them to my home to give me a quote on a lock that I wanted changed. When the guy arrived he took a look at the lock and first told me that they didn't make those locks anymore. That was completely incorrect. I had seen the lock from several previous locksmiths I called for quotes, and shopped online for it. Amazon has dozens of them, as do many other online hardware stores. When I tell him this, he then immediately gives me a price. How can you give me a price on something you didn't even know existed? Either way, I was dissatisfied with the price, as I had gotten lower quotes from other locksmiths. I told him that I had gotten lower quotes, so he then calls his manager to ask about a price adjustment. At this point, the two begin to laugh hysterically about the situation?! I'm not sure what exactly was amusing about this, but the other guy on the line was so loud that I could hear him through the phone. That's not how you do business. I ask you for a price, I don't like the price, you can either do better or you can't. That's it. If Brooklyn's Best intends on mocking their customers they should change their name, because that was, by far, the worst experience I had with any of the locksmiths I called. This is the best most efficient locksmith. I called about ten other places in Brooklyn and they wanted to charge me more than 5 times the amount to copy a car key!!!! People here are very honest they won't try to rip you off. Will be back for all my locksmith needs. read more
