This theatre was great! Saw Six in mid-July. Sold out show but no problems getting in and finding our seats. We were in the 2nd to last row right off the middle aisle and had a great view. I'm tall and the leg room was fine. Merchandise line was smooth, they offered a menu so you knew what was available and prices before getting to the booth. My boss and I had a ladies night and came to see Six while I was in town. I don't think I've ever been to the Brooks Atkinson before, although I used to come to a good amount of theatre in NY. We arrived a few minutes after 7p, snagged our seats and enjoyed the show. I love NY theatre, there's something special about it - so zero complaints from me. Coming from LA with so few theatres I have a serious appreciation for all that Broadway offers. Six was one of the very few shows I haven't seen several times over so I was over the moon excited to be taken to see it. I'd highly recommend this show if 1. you've seen damn near everything already (me) 2. you are only in town for a short while and want to catch a show. It's one act without an intermission and starts early (7p) you are out by 830p and can be on with your day. Our seats were great, but I'm the type that can find the silver lining to just about any seat in any theatre. We were center Orchestra but I'm sure you're fine anywhere in here. Cute little theatre that is hosting SIX. Friendly staff, everyone is ACTUALLY following protocol for COVID-19, and they are beyond organized. Going to the bathroom after the show was a breeze. They even had a bathroom attendant. I had never seen that at one of these shows. The show itself was fantabulous (that's fantastic and fabulous all rolled up into one), but I'll detail that in another review for the show itself. Broadway is back!! NYC is back! I've been to this theater a time or 2 and must say it never disappoints. The orchestra seats are typically the best seats but if you want to save on a few dollars, the upper mezzanine seats give a great view as well. There are Covid-19 protocols which means you have to be vaccinated to enter the theater and wear a mask throughout the entire show unless eating or drinking. The ushers will check your vaccination and identification information before entering the theater in which you will receive an ink stamp on your hand verifying that you have been checked for vaccination. You will show your ink stamp to another staff member right before entering the theater. The process was very smooth, organized, and not chaotic as I expected it to be. We were let in the theater in time to use the restroom and purchase drinks and snacks. The staff and security was friendly and welcoming. The show was awesome! Wow what an experience. Very great theater for my Broadway experience on a Saturday afternoon. My friend and I went to see Six the Musical, the hottest show on Broadway now. King Henry's wives dressed in glamour with techno dance theme choreography can capture anyone's hearts growing up in the 90s. We got obstructed view tickets very close to the stage and were able to see the show clearly. Loved the costume designs for each character. The process of getting rush tickets was not so long and the window was very quick. Seats were comfortable and not cramped like most of the other Broadway theaters I've gone to. Music and sound for the show was clear for us to enjoy the song pieces. Very beautiful and well structured theater. I would come back again for another round of new Broadway shows. read more

This review is for the theater itself - we saw Waitress there last night and I'd give that 5/5 stars. We originally started off in row L of the mezzanine. Seats were fine - not super comfortable but not uncomfortable either. Not a lot of leg room. A friend had seats open on the main floor near him so after intermission we moved down there, and that seemed to have a lot more leg room. The ladies bathroom had a long line and the doors were odd - two half-doors on each stall, kind of like saloon doors. Overall, not a bad place to see a show. read more

My friend and I saw Waitress here last night. We arrived at around 7:50pm for the 8:00pm showing of Waitress. There was a line down a third of the block, but it moved quite quickly and only took about 5 minutes to get in, then another couple minutes to find our seats. We had orchestra seats (row J). Sound quality was good. The theater was not large and there wasn't much leg room (and this is coming from a tiny person), but it was pretty clean and had a classic look and feel with the red and gold. The theater has good ambiance , good acoustics , classic lovely decor but as expected seats are cramped. We have partial blockage ( the handrail going down front mezzanine) from where we were seated but with a good view of the stage. The stage set- up was marvelous. My favorite theater seats are usually center mezzanine. This time we ended up in the last row in the corner. This theater is intimate and I can promise you that being in the last row and literally the last seat was still a good seat. As with any older theater the men's room was fine and the women's room had a giant line before and after the show. read more

This old theatre desperately needs a restroom upgrade! The line for the ladies room was about 100 deep on a hot summer matinee afternoon. We were so anxious about missing the start of the show after seeing all the lines. Thankfully they started a smidge late and everyone in line was able to relieve themselves. At one point an usher took two women to the mens room but it was sort of odd...she approached two women in the middle of the line to ask them if they would want to jump to the front of the line by going to the mens room. I never saw that usher again so was confused by the whole accommodation for the random two people and no one else. Once in the restroom there was an attendant directing women to the open stalls so that definitely sped things up in there. Again, they just need more potties for the ladies. The theater is beautiful. It has average seats that are a little snug. You need to stand up to let people pass you to get to their seats. The temperature was perfect - not too cold or warm. The sound was good, but several times I thought the orchestra was going to be louder than the vocalists. But it was okay. The musical we saw was WAITRESS with Jordan Sparks, which left me with mixed feelings. It's been years since I saw the film, which warmed my soul like warm (fill in the blank) pie. But last night, I didn't feel warm & fuzzy inside even though I was happy to see this musical. The staging was incredible. Loved seeing the live band on stage. The music that was upbeat and happy made me want to get up & dance. The actors were impeccable - vocal harmonizing was sweet to my ears. Standout performers, in addition to Jordan Sparks, were two understudies for characters Becky & the nurse, and Christopher Fitzgerald. Al Roker was a pleasant surprise. He was GOOD! I forgot the dark side of the plot. It's been 12 years since the movie, and I'd forgotten about the character Earl, her husband, and how miserable he was as a person. I also forgot the infidelity (two characters). That theme always makes me uncomfortable. Maybe because I'm happily divorced from someone who was unfaithful & I'm happily married to someone who would never cheat on me?? I'm glad I saw this musical because of the actors, music, staging, and pies. I wasn't a fan of the whole story. I would definitely not recommend for children. read more

I'll aim to keep this review as separate as possible from the musical I watched here (Waitress with headliners Sara Bareilles & Gavin Creel - excellent 5-star show). Brooks Atkinson Theatre is a Broadway venue, so the location is easily accessible by NYC Subway (49th St. Station is the closest, but it's also only a few blocks away from the Times Square and Port Authority stations) and is easy to spot once you're on 47th. I suppose my experience getting tickets can be included here: the first time we tried, all rush tickets were sold, but upon asking the box office attendant a few questions, we were prepared for the next try and were successful! The people working the box office were friendly and helpful both days. Door security, slightly different story. Lining up is a challenge because they'll vehemently inform you that none of the doors can be blocked, but there's only so much space on the sidewalk so we ended up snaking around under the marquee in inclement weather. Later that evening, we arrived 12 minutes to curtain so no lines at the door, but I was bluntly told to "open both bags" even though I didn't bring anything other than the coat I was wearing. Thanks. We scored box seats and even though the view was obstructed in one corner, the stage was close and the sound was good, and we had a little more space to maneuver around compared to those who have mentioned tight quarters in other seats. I love that the theatre itself is on the smaller side, making it more of an intimate venue. The spaces outside of the seating areas are almost non-existent; it was a little confusing trying to find the merch booths and the busy women's restroom line took up a good chunk of the bar area during intermission. Attendants were helpful in keeping the line organized and safe (the first stall apparently swings outward toward the entrance). Food--get the Waitress pie, just do it--and drinks are the usual expensive theatre prices but ordering and paying are a seamless process. At the end of the show, ushers will make everyone leave as quickly as possible, so if you didn't have a chance to get to the merchandise, tough luck. TL,DR; use the restroom in another venue, get merch before the end of intermission. But enjoy the show! read more

This theatre is definitely small, but I think that allows for most of the seats to have a decent view not too far from the stage. I arrived around 6:30pm for the 7:00pm showing of Waitress and there was already a line down the block! They started letting people in a little before 7 and the show probably started sometime between 7:15-7:30pm. The line for the restroom gets long, so if you come after 7pm, you may or may not have time to use it before the show starts. I had Orchestra seats (Row L, Seat 18/20) and the view was great. At about $229/per ticket, it's definitely not cheap, but Waitress was worth it and the seats ended up being great for me! It's a little tight, but I'm small, so it wasn't bad (the people in front didn't block my view either). You can't really see the far right side of the stage, but luckily for me, there wasn't much going on there (just the band playing). NOTE: I was hoping to go to the merchandise store after the show, but sadly, at the end of the show, everyone was directed to exit out of the building -- so if you want a souvenir, get it before the show or during intermission! read more

This review is for the actual theatre staff. This is just a really long story about how the staff made my day- it really could have been a far worse experience for me. The theatre itself is a smaller, older theater. For someone that is 5'0 and well fed (haha, thanks Yelp) it was comfortable. For someone who is 6'0? It might be a bit tight, I'd go with an aisle seat in that case. I had front row center mezz tickets for Waitress with Sara Bareilles on a very windy night and was really looking forward to the performance - until I injured myself pretty badly and ended up on crutches. The night of the show, I made the mistake of going out with one crutch, thinking it would be easier to get around/maneuver myself in the city and at the theatre (what a mistake). After a very unpleasant and tiring train ride, I arrived to the theater about 20 minutes before showtime to find the line down to 8th Ave and wrapped around the corner. Once they started letting people in, the line moved pretty fast, but I was still struggling to hobble along on my one crutch. Near the front of the line, as security was asking patrons to open their coats, a theatre employee (sent from above) spotted me struggling to juggle hobbling, unzipping layers, and hanging on to my ticket. She made a beeline towards me and said firmly that, no, I will not be entering this way. She spoke to an employee, made a motion, and brought me (and my fully-able-bodied guest) directly into the side door and led me to a comfortable seat. Only when I was seated and visibly relieved/comfortable did she ask to see our tickets. While complimenting our choice in seats, she asked if I could get up the stairs. I replied honestly, yes- but painfully slow. She said she would check with a manager if they could move me down to orchestra so I could be more comfortable. Had I known that I wouldn't see her again, I would have given her the biggest hug then and there! The manager came by and said that since we had such great seats, we could take a look at their house seats and see if we wanted to switch. I'm 5'0 so it's usually such a pain to not be front row mezz (yes, I'm a seat snob) because almost every single person, ever, is taller and will obstruct my view. The seats turned out to be closer, and on the aisle so I could have room for my dumb leg. We ended up accepting the house seats, even though I ended up sitting behind a giant of over 6 feet (from my point of view). He was kind enough to lean off into the aisle for most of the show, so I ended up getting to enjoy the show anyway with a mostly unobstructed view (SHOUTOUT to the chick who decided to wear a giant top bun to a broadway show -_- thanks for that). During the show, all the staff members were extremely friendly and aware that I was on a crutch, moving stuff out of the way, letting me use the handicap restroom (the rate at which I was moving, I would have never made it to the restroom and back during intermission). Over all, it just really made me feel like I didn't have to worry and could enjoy the show, even though I'm an a$$ and hurt myself. I still regret not hugging the security lady- she was my hero that night. read more

I was here to see the show "Peter and the Starcatcher" with my friend. This theater is located on 47th street in the theater district. It is designed by by architect Herbert J. Kapp. This is a beautiful theater which was built in 1926 and was renamed in late 60's after the famed New York Times drama critic, Brooks Atkinson.It was redecorated and it is once again illuminated by the original chandelier that had been removed over 40 years ago. The Brooks Atkinson has 1,069 seats and is one of The Nederlander Organization's nine Broadway theaters.This theater has been a host to a number of dramas and comedies. We got some really comfortable seats for the show. The seats were really comfortable as compared to the other theaters I have been to in the theater district.I was able to stretch my legs and I was not feeling cramped. The mens room were too tiny, I don't know what was the architect thinking while designing it. They restrooms were very weird and very cramped. read more

Won lottery tickets for Six. Got left box seats A1 and A2. It is partial view but most of the actions happens in the middle so you don't miss alot. Being up close and seeing their costumes and expressions is totally worth it. Best of all the price. $34 for lottery seats. So much leg room and we had the box all to ourselves. Came here to see Waitress on Broadway and really enjoyed the show! First, I guess it's maybe standard practice to open the doors shortly before the performance, but why don't they open them a little sooner?! Granted, it gave me a chance to go grab a drink, but don't they only have two shows a day? Maybe I just don't understand the logistics :) Anyway, after we got in, we made our way to our seats near the back middle of the top level, and the view was honestly fine. I was a little nervous that I'd be regretting not bringing any binoculars, but they definitely weren't necessary. The seats were comfortable, I enjoyed the show, and exiting afterwards wasn't too painful (no crazy pedestrian traffic jams). So why not 5 stars? I'm not sure whether to blame the sound system or the performers, but it was very difficult to understand the lyrics for the higher, louder parts. It sounded like everything was getting compressed or something. Anyway, it definitely subtracted from my enjoyment. I'm not sure if the sound quality would have been better if I was sitting closer, but I'll maybe give it a try if we go back :) read more

Much like many of my recent dates, this is a a smaller, older place with faded appeal. However, for a Broadway venue it was fairly comfortable. At most theaters the seats are miserable even for a smaller guy like me, but this was okay. It did get warm later in the show but I just loosened my tie a little and was okay. I don't know why theaters are always either too hot or too cold. Hate to sound like that little chick who visited those three bears, but I prefer it just right. I like going to shows, so how am I going to bash a theater? I'm not a monster, people. Oh, I saw "After Midnight"...it was pretty good. Who woulda thought that sitting up in the BALCONY, we had AWESOME, GREAT seats ?? When I think of a balcony, I automatically associate it with not being able to see. Anyway, the seats were so very good........and everything was cranked up, so we had NO problems hearing. I love Broadway theaters so much more......they tend to be smaller than out in L.A., and one could see from basically anywhere. That makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. I'm a huge fan of that. We saw ROCK OF AGES here. It was such a blast of a show, high energy, funny, cute, and one of my favorites, Constantine Maroulis was in it. The entire cast was wonderful. Great, great fun. read more

Absolutely excellent service by the guest services team. I regret so deeply that I misplaced the manager's business card. He is a younger guy and very genuinely helpful. Long story short, we had someone wearing a medical boot and arrived only to find out the building was NOT accessible. For being one of the older theaters and not even ADA compliant, this theater was more committed to accessibility than many of the other theaters we encountered. Seriously. After visiting the Brooks, we held every other theater to their standard of organization and kindness (boy, did we get a surprise). We appreciated that prior to the show, they allowed folks needing extra time to quietly congregate in the lobby early and be discreetly ushered in. We also appreciated that they were able to reseat us on the first floor in decent chairs so we could enjoy the show. We loved every moment of Waitress and the lovely folks on their guest services team really made the day. Shoutout to the Brooks for living a great standard of accessibility in 2019! read more

Old school theatre opened in 1926 and revived in 1960. Beautiful and glorious. "Peter and the Starcatcher" set is nicely put together design making resourceful of salvage recycled materials to implement audience's usage of imagination into the theatre scene for the storyline. Further, the actors were well equipped to make cool usage of mundane objects as a 2012 MacGyver for props with the audience's power of imagination as gloves for birds; rope to depict ocean waves; and rope for a mirror. As per Playbill Vault. com, the stage frame is hand crafted adorning the proscenium with kitchen timers, bottle caps, ropes, zippers, cork, buttons mold in relief sculptures from thrift shops. The giant pineapple is taken from the story as props which is implemented as an element onto the proscenium. Good acoustics and lighting but there is absolutely no leg room nor elbow space for theatre patrons. Albeit, I'm a petite person but my legs were restricted for the entire performance's duration--bears uncomfortable. For the big bone... I can imagine the level of discomfort restricting physical movement as one can surely be the maestro of complaints! Evidently in conjunction with the uncomfortableness, the temperature dropped as I required my coat to provide warmth. Facilities are on the upper level where there is a water cooler by the sinks. For the women's stalls, like the theatre seats, bears no space for movement as you're refined into a microscopic box of double doors which thankfully open outwards. read more

Waitress is a wonderful show! With that being said, I'm only reviewing the theater. What type of theater/venue nowadays doesn't take electronic tickets? There's nothing on any ticket that says it has to be printed out, yet they wouldn't even try to scan my electronic ticket. If you bought your ticket from Ticketmaster, you are in luck since the box office will print it for you. Otherwise, they direct you to the Edison hotel next door, where they charge you - I saw a ton of people going through the same thing because they bought their seats from SeatGeek or some similar app. Buyer beware - make sure to print your ticket. I'm surprised since it's now 2018 and they still can't accept electronic tickets when every movie, other Broadway/off-Broadway show, and sporting events have all been able to easily scan tickets off of my phone... read more

My husband and I visited this theater to watch Waitress, starring Sara Bareilles. We arrived at the theater about 40 minutes before the start of the show and the line to get in was already one block deep. Once the doors opened, it moved very quickly. There is a narrow lobby with a souvenir stand and a bar, and you can buy mini pies for $12. This is a small, intimate theater where you are likely to have a good view, even from the back row. The downside is the seats are tiny. I am petite so I was comfortable enough, but if you are 6'0+ your knees will be touching the seat in front of you. Because we were there in the winter, our heavy coats draped behind our seats made the seats feel even smaller. We sat in Orchestra L, Row E, Seats 13-15. Our view of the diner counter was slightly obstructed, but we didn't feel like we missed any significant moments. The sound quality was excellent. As mentioned in other reviews, if you are a woman you need to rush to the bathroom the second intermission starts as the lines start to wrap around the bar area. This is a relatively small theater. I would think that there are good sight lines from everywhere. A frequent problem in theaters is temperature control. I found that I was comfortable in this theater. There was ample leg room. Nicely renovated. So, when an employee tells you to leave at intermission and go to a restaurant to use the facilities, that says A LOT. Fortunately, for this performance everyone was able to attend to their needs and get back to their seat for the second act. Other reviews stated that did not happen for them, most unfortunate. Lobby area is VERY tight with a small concession area. Also, at the end of the performance, the staff was most generous to allow us time to take photos while most of the audience raced for the exits. I would attend another performance at this theater but limit liquid intake. read more

Saw Waitress last night, it was a great show! Five stars for the show itself. Subtracted one star for the theater solely because the seats were cramped and tight. There wasn't even much room to get up and get past the people sitting next to you, so once you're seated you're stuck. I know this is due to the age of the building itself, but wasn't very pleasant. On to the good parts! We sat in the front center mezzanine, row B, seats 107 and 108 and these seats were THE BEST. I originally wanted to sit front and center but I quickly noticed how close those seats are, practically on top of the stage. For the price of the orchestra seating you shouldn't have to break your neck to see. Admittedly, I do not attend many Broadway shows so I don't know if other theaters have a similar set-up. I definitely recommend front center mezzanine, worth the cost of the ticket. If you can't get this section, don't worry too much. The theater is very intimate. Every seat would be a great experience. The attention to detail in the beautiful art and architecture of the building itself was breathtaking. It felt like I stepped back into time. The staff was very friendly! This is one of my favorite theaters in all of Manhattan because it is where Waitress is playing currently. I absolutely LOVE that show!!! What I also like about this theater is that there are NO bad seats, every single seat in the place is a good one. The only problem is that because it is so small, they can't let people in until very close to the start of the show so you may have to wait in a long line before entering. Also, because it is a small theater, the bathroom lines are insane, THE GOOD NEWS though...the staff is so fabulous at getting people through the lines quickly! Again, I repeat there are NO BAD SEATS in this theater so if you get the chance to see a show here, you will not be disappointed. You may be disappointed though to find out that you can not recycle your plastic cups that they give you for drinks...that's a bummer! I brought mine back to reuse and they threw it away and gave me a new one. They didn't even ask if I wanted my original one...they just tossed it and then my new one got stepped on so I left with nothing...oh well! I hope that they let you reuse sometime soon! read more

I won't review Waitress because that show deserves 5 stars. This is just for the building itself. The theatre is small which is cool for viewing any show that you're seeing here, so don't be afraid of buying the cheap seats. I'm just here to warn you, go to the bathroom before coming here. There is a limited amount of stalls to accommodate the amount of people in this theatre. You will spend your entire intermission in line. Also if it happens to be cold or raining or have any sort of weather, you will be stuck in a long long line to get inside the theatre, and it's all outside and uncovered. They search your purses before entering, so you may be stuck outside for a while. The cast of Waitress does sign after the show. If you race out after the show is done and snag a spot on the fencing placed outside the stage door, the cast makes its way down the line to sign and sometimes take pictures. read more

Pros: This is a very small theater with no obstructed views and no bad seats. The seats are comfortable even though they aren't particularly roomy. Unlike some other theaters, you don't have to be a mountain climber with extra lung capacity to get to the top rows. There is a bar upstairs that serves food (like pie in a jar!) and two different booths selling mementos. Cons: There is only one men's room and one women's room for the entire theater and the lines are FOREVER long. We scored Premium Seats for AFTER MIDNIGHT on our 1st evening in NYC & Brooks Atkinson Theatre was the hosting venue Sitting in Orch Center, Row E, there was great leg room, comfy seats, & fantastic sightlines but the theater was **freezing**! I guess it had to be so totally cold b/c the artists were completely dripping w/ sweat & they needed the colder climate to stave off heat exhaustion And I'm talking about the band and the performers alike - those musicians were totally grooving & working their fingers to the bone w/ the fast chord work & hitting all those high notes - the performers were tap dancing, leaping & running all over the stage, in costumes that were to die for - it was incredible! We found the band to be pretty loud at times, but still tolerable volume-wise... you might want to bring some earplugs Dule Hill was our excellent emcee & Fantasia was the featured singer - sheer awesomeness! KD Lang is up next folks!! After Midnight was AMAZING - the tippy-top, highest 5-Stars!!! And the Brooks Atkinson Theatre was a great venue for the revue! read more

Both of the shows I saw at this theater were musical. I remember it being a small venue. For After Midnight I enjoyed every minute. My daughter selected the show for my surprise Christmas gift December 2013. She knows how to pick them! I loved the singing and dancing. The Jazz at Lincoln Center all a Stars performed. I'm a big fan of the Jazz age. Really enjoyable. The previous show I saw at this theater was a tribute to the Beatles. I thought it sounded like it would be a good show. My daughter gave me the choice of show for Christmas 2010. We finally cashed in my gift in April 2011 when I made up my mind to see the tribute. She was not thrilled with my choice. I must say it was not one of my peak show experiences. She was right! For a small venue I remember the acoustics were lousy. It was a performance of Beatles wanna be and historic footage of the real Beatles. It was a nice flashback but disappointing. The theater was comfortable to me both times. I liked the intimate atmosphere. No outstanding review of the venue here. I let my daughter pick the show the next time..... read more
