The leasing agent even told me to "take a day or two to think about it," which made me believe I had time to make a decision. I viewed the unit on Monday, and Tuesday was a holiday, so the office didn't contact me. I reached out on Wednesday to let them know I could not move forward due to affordability, and only then was I told that my $200 would not be refunded. If I had been given clear information from the beginning, I would have made a different choice. I've lived here for 2 years the roof has leaked 3 times the water is inconsistent quality. The rooms are for quality, lots of bug infestations and rodents evwn after talking to them multiple times the issue remains . The parking is very bad. We do like this place and wish to stay longer and i would have given a full star review... my only complaint on this place is someone in our area have been smoking weed it happens every afternoon around 11am and midnight 12am and not sure where it is coming from no confirmation on which unit everytime we smell that we had to close our windows shut but sometimes it does get through thats the only complaint i have other than that nothing else to add. I have already reported it but they said i had to be sure which one of the tenants has been smoking weed like how em i supposed to just that should i spy or ask them lol seriously!!! I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. When I rented my unit they specifically told me that they cannot guaranty me two parking spots. I have one assigned parking, it's perfect. Next to my unit, and covered. As for noise and kids breaking things? Well, I don't hear much of the noise, but there are children. And thank goodness, too. Kids outside having fun at the pool or strolling through the property with their parents...sounds like a healthy upbringing to me. Kids can be loud, people, get over it. Gates are supposedly locked and they say there is security but they said they can't do anything about it! Yesterday went to my car and found all of my items in my car stolen!! I've lived here 11 years now and I've loved it. I wish we had room for more parking that's the only downfall, no guest parking for family and friends to stay when visiting. I would not recommend this place. It will be hard to find parking especially if you're going to have guests and would stay overnight. You'll only have one parking spot and you have to make sure if you have multiple cars to find parking at the open areas if you're lucky. Laundromat is always full. Some people who live here are extremely rude especially at the laundromat. You're going to be fighting for washer and dryer. It costs $2.00 a small load. People will touch your clothes and toss it out if you leave it unattended for a short moment. Mind you they won't apologize. They don't care so beware of using the Laundromat here. Very good affordable apartment in cerritos area. Staff are amazing and plenty of parking. Unlike most apartments in the area...this apartment doesn't do monthly charges on second car parking and pet. Those charges can fetch up to $100-150 in sage and aria apartments. Don't listen to bad reviews. Give it a go! Those people that are complaining are probably people that break the rule...smoke weed...having their dog poop everywhere (which is a problem), and being too loud. This was a nice complex to live. Great neighbors, clean property with great staff of management and maintenance crew, pet friendly with no additional dog rent, and had plenty of parking. [We had a 2 bedroom, with a guaranteed covered spot and one uncovered spot. Never really had an issue with parking. If we needed to go somewhere late, we just made sure to move the cars around to leave our covered space open for us for us when we returned home.] There were a few reasons I will only leave 3 stars. 1. Its not a smoke free environment. We constantly were bombarded with second hand smoke. 2. It was an older building with older windows that allowed the smoke to just seep through, which made it difficult to protect our son from it. It was worse during the summer when we wanted to leave our windows open, but the neighbors would be outside smoking even during the late hours. We would have to close our windows in the miserable heat. 3. Though most dogs were great neighbors, but some were very aggressive and bark excessively. Our dog was also attacked twice by 2 seperate dogs. If any of those 3 reasons would bother you, I wouldnt recommend this place. We left for these reasons and moved into a guaranteed smoke free environment. However, if those things arent deal breakers, then this is a wonderful community! read more

There are plenty of parking spots which you won't easily in any apt. complex. 2. The services offered are brilliant. E.g whenever I have a complaint ( like something not working ) , they take less than 24 hours to resolve it with full customer satisfaction. 3. The leasing offfice people are very nice and humble. 4. The place is very neat and clean with 2 swimming pools ( this is important ). 5. Have been living in this apartment for last 2 years, loved everything about it, just that they do not allow Golden Retriever (big dog, which most apartments are now allowing, breed restrictions only) Anyways, the landscape of this apartment is beautiful and very natural. I love the location of swimming pool and the jacuzzi (very tropical style) The management has been great with our service request and I always enjoyed small gossips with the handyman guys. The location of this place is the most feasible from any other location if you want to be on 91 freeway (exit is made right opposite the entrance) Has got Chipotle, Pizza Studio, Starbuck, El Torrito just 2 blocks away... gas station is just around the corner, very close to La Palma park, Kaiser Permanante, My neighbors are great and friendly.. I personally feel, people who post reviews are the ones, who had a GREAT TIME or mostly the ones who had the BAD EXPERIENCE, so cannot really judge upon the reviews here, just that you get some idea of what you "may/may not" encounter.. Do yourself a favor and do not rent an apartment unit at Brookside Apartments. Do not even try to apply here for a unit. We lived here for just over a year. Management was okay, did not do anything special or went out of their way to help the tenants. Whenever you walk in the office, they are just chit chatting. We moved out due to a worker ants / termite infestation went unresolved. Long story, short: We gave management over a month to fix the problem and they did not properly fix it. The maintenance manager, himself, proclaimed that "he has never seen any termite infestation" like he's seen in our apartment unit. They said that they would hire a 3rd party to "inject" some orange stuff into the walls but they never came. Called the office and informed them that the exterminators never came (my sister was home the entire time btw) and one of the managers told me that they did. (Lies). At the end, we were forced to find a new apartment complex because the management at the Brookside Apartment were inadequate at handling something that they should've. Here are some Pro's and Con's about the apartment. Pros: The area CLOSE to the leasing office was always clean and well maintained. (of course it is, it's the first thing, and sometimes the only area that possible renters are going to see!) Cons: The rest of the areas are dirty, poorly maintained, the gates are ALWAYS OPEN - anyone can come in and out, management is inadequate, neighbors are rude, people park their cars in your DESIGNATED parking spot, upon moving in, the apartment was not properly fixed, spiders everywhere. This place is beautiful when you walk through you can see all the little ponds All the trees that make this place make you go awe .behind the leasing office is a pool with jacuzzi as well as a volleyball court . The staff is very nice and helpful Especially Jessica Any questions you have she will answer . There are laundry facilities located on site And the Mail room is kept nice a clean people sometimes post ads there which I find nice . There is assigned parking but also have visitors parking for family and friends .This place is located off the 91 fwy and I near a gas station as well as various food stops like the habit , yogurtland etc . This place I swear... Aesthetic and location wise this place is good. Has great management and prompt repair. Convenient rec center and seems to be good for families. Here's why... As I type there is some punk kid outside with his skateboard making all the noise because his parents didn't raise him right. The worst thing about this place is the parking situation. My roommate and I have two cars, but management will only issue one covered space, all the rest are first come first serve, and during the after work rush the "find the spot" game gets to be very irritating. I have a dent in my car door now because some a-hole opened their car door too wide, after I had to find a spot very far away from my apt. And I guess this place is the only place in OC that allows pets, because this place is a zoo. SO many dogs! Everyday without fail, two dogs battle each other outside my window, and it sounds like one is eating the other with growls and snarles for days. DO NOT MOVE HERE. The leasing office will be super friendly to you in the beginning but as soon as you move in they will just give you attitude till the day you move out. The people who work in the office are always rude and have HUGE attitude especially the lady who calls herself manager blonde hair medium length caucasian lady. The way she talks is so rude always has an attitude and when you really need her shes "not in her office" honestly I think they are just lying because she doesn't want to deal with customers complaining about the apartment, its your job to listen to us and fix the problems not just pretend you're not in the office. This place is "gated" but the gates are open 364 days it closes one day of the year, they say its cuz of maintenance but I never see anyone even touching the gate its just old and not working too well and they are too cheap to fix it, they just keep repainting it thinking we would fall for it. I mean if you repaint it and the gate is still open like everyday i'm pretty sure nobody's going to fall for it. Also I lived closed to the side gate it was closed on the day I moved in and next day opened till the day I moved out someone always keeps putting a rock in between the door so it wont close. One time some stranger came in and took everything from my backyard called the office they said uh.... I was like really Uh? thats it and I told them it's probably because your gate is always open they said uh.... okay if thats the answer you're gonna give me I would have just asked my dogs what i should do they'd probably give me a better answer than you. Also after 6months of living the house starts to break and they don't fix it full of termites backyard fence was eaten also the water is brown half of the time, called maintenance he looked at it and got mad at me, i was like excuse me i cant make the water turn brown he rolled his eye walked out and never came back. I see him around the neighborhood just rolling around in his golf cart. He gets paid to drive the golf cart around the neighborhood? I have been renting here for over 2 years now, the grounds are beautiful and are always being maintained well. Some if not all of the units come with your own storage closet next to your front door. It's very large and I was able to store a lot of my belongings in it. The general manager Cynthia is wonderful, helpful and takes care of any issues right away. The other employees are great too. They have a lot of full time maintenance people on the property. Being that the complex is huge, guest parking can be difficult to get. The laundry area is good but the machines are always breaking down due to so much use. The complex is in a great central location near freeways and neighboring cities. I recommend anyone to check this property out to consider being a tenant. Las Vegas here I come. read more

Honestly a lot of these reviews are coming from overly sensitive people. Yes parking is a little bit of a pain in the butt if you have two cars, but you get one assigned parking spot. I've had no problems with roaches in my apartment they stay outside where they belong. Some units are remodeled and some are still old so make sure you ask for the remodel ones when you sign the lease. The washers are constantly breaking so just get yourself a apartment washer they work wonders! They are tow happy here so make sure ur company leaves before the gates close. I pay 1600 a month for a two bedroom one bath, so its pretty reasonable compared to other apartments in the area. The complex is haunted so if that kind of thing freaks u out I would stay away. Its been 8 months i am staying here and so far no issue, the community staff is very friendly. I saw bunch of bad review about staff but i never felt that all my required were resolved on timely manner. There is some pest control issue but staff was helpful to get it resolve and they tried best so no complaints. The best part is Community hall is available for use for party without any charge, that was surprise for me as i know most community charge for it. The location is really nice, and don't worry gates do get closed after 8PM, i saw people complaining about that in the review but i felt it might be in the past the current situation it does gets closed everyday. The laundry is ok, make sure you won't leave your cart there else it will get lost :). It might get switch i would say.... Overall i am enjoying my stay, wish they could have some small play area near fish pond for kids. read more

-Biggest complaint: Every time (and I mean every single time) it rains, the ceiling leaks. We once had water literally running down our wall. Maintenance never comes the same day we call, even when we tell them there is water actively dripping out of the celing. The walls turned brown/black (I'm no expert but assuming mold) and they just paint over it. -The water in the "brooks" and ponds is dirty - it often smells horrible (sometimes so bad I hold my breath as I walk by) and has a layer of film on the top. It's so bad that you can hardly see the fish in the koi pond. -When something breaks (loose steps, burned-out outdoor light fixtures, etc.) it takes maintenance days, sometimes weeks, to fix the problem. -I called to complain because my neighbor always parks in the fire lane, blocking the sidewalk, and I had to walk through the wet grass and I slipped and fell. Neighbor still parks there on a daily basis. -One of the things that attracted us to the complex was the amount of trees, too bad they have landscapers come and cut down ALL of the branches so there are no leaves. Not sure what the point is in having trees then...but glad to know part of my rent money is being wasted on this. -Candice in the rental office is rude and always sounds like she doesn't want to here about whatever problems we're having. -The fitness center is filled with machines from the 80s. The weight machine is often broken. They don't enforce the "no kids" rule so people bring their small children in to scream and run around while they work out in a room that is probably 500 sq ft at the most. -The water in the hot tub is usually gross - green or yellow or brown. There's usually dirt or something in the bottom. -They advertise as a gated community - this is deceiving. Dumpster divers are free to come in and (loudly) pick through the dumpsters (located right outside some bedroom windows) at 6:30am on Saturday/Sundays. The walk through gates are never locked. The drive through gates are left open during the day (perfect for burglars that might want to peek in your apartment while you're at work!). -HUGE stray cat problem. They aren't afraid of people. They walk/sleep on the parked cars. They leave poop everywhere (which no one ever cleans up). They especially like using the sand volleyball court as a litter box. The same sand volleyball court that kids like to play in. -Maintenance came in and changed the lighting fixture in the bathroom so it would be more energy efficient. This was almost 3 years ago and there are still holes in the wall/different colored paint from where they old fixture used to be. Despite a few calls this has never been fixed. -Most of the BBQ Grills don't work. This place is WAY over priced for the amount of problems we've experienced. read more

Margarita showed us the 2 bedroom apartment and its moved in ready. Gated community is a plus.
