Most of the people here don't respect any rules. People arguing, talking extremely loud right outside my apartment at late hours. Teens drinking in the pool being unruly. This place is not what i thought. People that dont even live here come to use the pool. Very few pet owners pick up after their pets. The laundry room is very small and people leave their clothing in the machines till they feel like getting it out. I seen one neighbor rolling a mariguana joint by the pool. I had to call the police on him. Cigarette smoke is everywhere, even where kids play there's people smoking like they have no clue how bad it is for children. There are new neighbors i seen huddling all together by their front door wearing all red gear. Those are the kind of people I was trying to avoid when we decided to move here. People move in and out all the time so you dont know who lives here and who doesn't. There are a mix of nationalities here which i love but lately there has been an increasing African American flow. I thought this would be a great place to live but its not a quiet safe place they pretend to be on their website. I expected much more from Brookside. read more

The apartment complex is a nice and peaceful area with great upkeep on the lawn and it's outdoor scenery. They have great price points on apartments and have 24 hour live in maintenance that is always eager to help. Their leasing staff are very kind as well. All in all, it's a nice looking place with some very nice people. read more

My husband and I were approved and had a move-in date, however one week before the move-in date we were notified that the current tenant was no longer moving out and we no longer had an apartment with the Brookside Apartments. We never got an apology from Brookside staff. Staff from the beginning were lazy and unprofessional. Margarita helped us once and was kind, but wasn't the most professional person I've encountered. Margie helped us the majority of our visits; she was rude and seemed lazy (she wouldn't go out of her way to help, ever.) Brookside is expensive, but the location is good if you want to be in the La Palma area. read more

Dog mess always on the sidewalks and grass. Terrible parking you only get 1 assigned parking space. You can't park in the neighborhood now because you have to have a permit now that is only issued to the homeowners. If you have company they can only visit 8 am - 5 pm after that their car may be towed. This is not a good place to rent for a single person or a couple because there is not enough parking. If family or friends visit at night they can't because there is no parking. I'm moving like now. I get a notice that we can't park across the street due to needing a permit that we can't get and then the next day a notice going up $60 on the rent. The owner should have been fighting the city on these permits but seems like they could care less. read more

Margarita was a great help. She showed us a 2 bedroom apt. It was moved in ready. Answered all our questions to move in asap. Brookside Apt was exactly what we are looking for. Easy access to the fwy, Clean, Close the all the stores and resturants my friends and I go too. Perfect place to rent. read more

I used to live above model house. Do not move into these apartments. Worst place to live. Rental office, Cynthia she's rudest and terrible manager. You can't have guest over past 630 pm unless they park there car elsewhere. Children are not safe to play outside. Many weird tenants (single homosexual people) live here. In addition, this apartment is not safe place to live. My car got dented while parking at this apartment. The maintenance man is horribly rude that does not comply with the rules set for every resident such as himself. I moved out after 2 months. I used to live at many different apartments however, you can tell why this apartment has only a few reviews. read more

Ok this apartment complex is fine, I don't know what all these people are crying about. The only thing that sucks is sometimes my friends have to park kinda far whenever they want to come over, and the walls are somewhat thin. Everything else is fine , everyone is nice , nice complex with small ponds and very green. This place could charge a lot more of the apartments were updated, everything here is great except the apartments them selves need remodeling. The surrounding area is nice and you're right off the freeway. Maintenance is also really good.. like you tell the office something is wrong and they are there like 30 min later.. no joke... I would give it 5 stars if the apartments were updated, they are still fine though. read more

Brookside is a great apartment complex because of the people working there. The apartments themselves look great, but its the leasing office people and workers that make it great. The workers in the leasing office are so keen to help you find what you are looking for and willing to go the extra mile in getting you there. I used to live at Brookside Apartments, my kids grew up there and I NEVER have a bad experience. My neighboors were great, the Office staff was always helpful and polite as well as the maintenance crew, they always did the maintenance request the same day. The Property has a lots of amenities such as a big laundry rooms, jacuzzi, smming pools, billiard rooms, gym, party room where I used to celebrated my family's birthdays. There is parking for residents and for guest. The place looks beautiful with all the greens around the complex. I lived there for 10 years and I really enjoy it, but sadly, I have to moved because I got transfer from my work and I need a closer place to my new job location. Honestly, I recommend Brookside Apartments to live, I think the people who complain about this place is because they didn't follow the rules and they got in trouble. I love this place, the staff are professional, my neighbors are super friendly, the grounds are beautiful, if you have a dog, it's like a live-in dog park, which is excellent, and for how many dogs there are, there is absolutely no problem with noise. My husband and I, along with our two sons and dog, are very pleased. The pricing is just about what you'd pay at any other nice apartment community. read more

Worst place to rent!!! Expensive, no parking at night ever! Multiple cars driving around looking for spots. I get home from work around midnight and I have to drive around all 3 parking lots and If I'm lucky I get the farthest spot away from my apartment. If I'm extra lucky I get to sleep in car and wait for someone to leave before I can park. Visitor parking spots are taken up by residents also, so it's really hard to have people over. Animals crawling and fighting on roofs of apartments. Clothes washer machines smell horrible 90% of the time. Single pane windows that shake and rattle when a semi truck passes on the freeway. Due to location of complex sometimes little to no air movement so it's always hot. Security guard who just stands next to his car and smokes the whole time. read more

Lived in this complex for a few months and we HATED IT. First of all this is not exactly a "gated community" even though it's advertised that way which is a big concern because this complex is HUGE. There is shady people walking around the parking lots very frequently. I've lived in many different apartments and this one by far had the thinnest walls ever! The neighbors were terrible. Were pretty sure our next door neighbor was a drug addict and there was an offal old man that lived right across from us and would constantly harass us saying our 3 year old was making too much noise!! One time he even called the cops!!!! When we explained what had happened to the police officer, he even told us that we need to go to management with this issue immediately because this is considered harassment! How much noise do you think one 3 year old can make?! Plus out of the 3-4 months we lived here we saw numerous police cars show up late at night in flocks. God knows what was happening!! The ONLY and I mean ONLY good thing about this complex was unlike a lot of other apartment complex's, there was always plenty of parking. Other than that, THIS PLACE SUCKS. read more

Do you see a trend? A lot of one star ratings. That's because Brookside Apartments are far from the Luxury apartments that they claim to be. If you want to live in a place where tons of stray cats live, choose Brookside. They urinate on your door, plants, car, etc. The place always smells like cat feces. If you want to live in a place where you cannot open a window without smelling cigarette and Marijuana smoke, choose Brookside apartments. Any apartment complex that has a laundry mat does not have the right to call themselves "Luxury Apartments" in my book. The carpets in the apartments are the cheapest/lowest quality on the market. We were told to not bother cleaning when we moved out because they send in a team to clean everything but we decided to clean anyway. We didn't get our deposit back; instead we got a bill for a carpet replacement. We are clean people, we cannot help that the crappy carpet wears out. We also got charged $150 dollars for cleaning, even though the place was pretty clean the way we left it, and they told us not to bother cleaning it. For the last 2 years, they have had a weird construction project where they have been remodeling the corners of each building. The new color doesnt match the building. If it took two years to remodle the corner of each building, how long would you say it will take to remodel the whole complex? Something is really wrong with the management there. I believe it is their goal to use your deposit to pay for upgrading the apartments instead of taking it from their profits. We were great tenants and members of the local community. We are happy to be in our new home but upset that we were given such a mean spirited parting gift. read more

I lived here for about 2 years. I completely understand the reasons why this place has a lot of extremely bias opinions. For one, this apartment is really family oriented, this means lots of kids and pets. If you are a very noise sensitive person, definitely not your cup of tea. However, this is way better than any apartment near a college where you will see that times 100. Secondly, The location of this place. This is perhaps the best rental place for the price. If you are into the whole Artesia, Cerritos, Buena Park vibe everything is nearby. La Palma is a very small city but it does have full services, Police/Fire/Library/Community/Parks all within walking distance and come on, access to Freeways, the fwy exit goes into the apartment complex. I understand parking is not the easiest, but you get One guaranteed spot and one uncovered for no additional charges! And lastly, I would like to recommend the staff for their prompt attention to repairs. It is not the newest complex or most modern, but it certainly is amazing for the price. read more

So my fiance and I came across Brookside as we were looking to move closer to my school. Upon speaking to Jessica, she came off very nice and was very thorough with explaining their policies when showing us the apartment. We needed a place soon, so we put down our $100 holding deposit, and told her we would let her know whether or not to proceed in the next couple of days. Two days later, I called and spoke to another person who sent me all the necessary paperwork to get the ball rolling. After emailing them everything they needed, I called Jessica to let her know and asked her to call me as soon as they had a decision for me. Upon not hearing from her hours later, I called and she told me we were approved. Thanks for the call, i thought, but was nonetheless happy our apartment hunting was over since we had less than 2 weeks to move. I received an email from her congratulating us on the approval, and had me pick out the paint color for our room. Fast forward to a week before the move, my fiance tells me that he received a call from Jessica who said the apartment was no longer available. Obviously, I was pretty upset so I gave Jessica a call immediately and asked her what had happened. She explained that the current tenant's husband is leaving to another state for work and the wife decided to stay in the apartment, which I knew was complete BULL because when we were viewing the apartment, she told us the current tenants of the apartment were interested in looking to move into an apartment with a patio. So which is it? I told her this was unacceptable and completely unprofessional, to which she replied she didn't think it was unprofessional. How about an apology for your screw up? Had she been up front about the fact there might be a chance that the apartment might not be available, we could of had more time to find a backup apartment, but because of her lack of honesty we had to scramble to find another place quick style. Like bed bugs? living in rural areas of India where people bate their kids outside? (Really don't mean any disrespect, but 80% are Indian, and not the educated once)! Do you like paper thin walls where u really clearly hear your neighbors in the bathroom... Or perhaps you may like people such as Cynthia, the most unprofessional rude and obnoxious person you will ever meet, yet managing the place!! Oh I know, You may like the fact that they have animals they do not take care for... yet show of as their attraction, then kill them by calling animal control, while hopeless residence offer their help to adopt them!! 1. My husbands car was stolen from our suppoosedly secure covered parking lot while a security guard was on duty. Brookside was not sympathetic at all. 2. Brookside had our other car towed two weeks after our first car was stolen while we were on vacation. So we came back with NO cars. They had it towed because "it was dirty and parked in the same spot without being moved." We were on vacation! Obviously it wasn't moved or cleaned. They refused to pay to have it towed back so we had to pay three hundred to get it out of impound and pay to have it towed back. 3. The ceilings of our kitchen were completely slanted and the walls were paper thin. We could hear every move our upstairs neighbors made. 4. The laundry machines ruined my clothes twice leaving them with spots all over them and brookside and the washer company did not compensate me at all. 5. Packages were not delivered to us but other peoples mail was. We constantly got our mail mixed up. 6. People don't pick up after their dogs and there is poop everywhere. 7. The ponds outside your porch aren't properly cleaned leaving them dirty filled with moss and then mosquitos swarm all over them. 8.Our water was constantly being shut off for repairs without any notice so with no warning we wouldn't be able to cook or take showers. 9.Management is ok but they are all usually on different pages and are not usually willing to help you with anything. I moved into brookside apartments due to was convenient close to my job and doctors. I loved my apartment it was upgraded with wonderful cabinets & granite counters. All my problems started when my son came by and made a seen. I never was called in at all to advise me about the complaints, I had no warnings, I got letter delivered that there had been several complaints about noise, which was really weird I was never home. I had to hear from the Security that they were planning to evict me. This was very unprofessional. I went into security they told me to call the Police and get restraining order. My stepdaughter came in and they told us to call the police, I had all the paperwork ready to go to court to get restraining order, and my son broke in. I thought Jessica was very nice and cared. My daughter called the police, I emailed Jessica and let her know what was going on and she never responded to my email, and instead the very next day I get notice on the door that I have 3 days to get out. I was paid until the end of the month. I borrowed on my 401k, in order to pay for the apartment. They didn't care I didn't have anywhere to go. Just wanted us to vacate, I called the Lawyer and they were rude and wouldn't even work with me. All the other neighbors were even louder than us. I guess you have to be Indian to be able to live here. I left this apartment in perfect condition I was there less than 2 months so the paint was perfect, everything was in same condition and it was when we moved int. They charged us $140.00 for cleaning, $165.00 for painting which no painting needed to be done, 85 to clean carpets, $250.00 to break lease, mind you we didn't cancel lease they did, and we should of had to pay for them breaking the lease, and $190.00 for Legal fees, they never had to do anything at court just a formed letter that probably came from corporate. So out of 1340.00 Deposits I got 386.00 which is not enough to move anywhere. I have had to live almost in my car and Brookside doesn't care. You know when we came there Jessica was very nice. I thought we were going to be very happy the other rental employees were very rude and didn't care. The people above me start screaming at 11:30 at night, the place was just very noisy the neighbors were so unfriendly you say hello and they don't answer you back. I don't understand how were were targeted. As we were there 1/2 of the ponds didn't work, the coi pond was so disgusting had trash in it, and they have cameras on every place of the properties so it was like we were in prison, any wrong move and it was on tape. I felt if they would of talked to me I could of got this issue under control. The place is very overpriced. I can't believe I was paying 1280.00 for a 1 bedroom that was very tiny. I have lived for years at other apartments I have never had anything like this happen to me. I have to say everybody was so rude and when you said hello to any tenants they wouldn't even answer you. The Indians had very Loud parties until midnight and they don't get any complaints. They don't speak to anybody and they can do whatever they want. I would never recommend this place to anybody I know, worst management and apartment so far. This is a great place to live geared toward family and is also pet friendly. The staff here, such good people they make you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door. I'm so glad that I decided to check this place out now I'm very happy....Great place to live!!! read more
