Dropped by Brookside for a quick coffee run. It's a quaint cute little coffee shop with a quiet garden seating in the back. I ordered a matcha latte and the barista, Michael did an amazing job. Brookside is open as a wine bar in the evening now, and the vibe is fantastic: candlelit, focused menu, great service, peaceful back garden, interesting wine list, delicious food (we had steak, bitter salad, and oysters). Carlos and the girl working with him (I wish I remembered) were so kind & helpful! They were happy and looked like they were having a good time!!! My lav coco latte was delicious and was made SO fast! Beautiful espresso machine as well. Music was a little loud inside but I was also sitting by the door so I understand. They have great sitting areas with a variety of spots. 10/10 recommend. If I ever move to nyc I would want to work here!!! My favorite cafe in the area. It's adorably hipster both inside and out, but more importantly, the amazing staff is super responsive to customer feedback. When this place first opened, it was really bare -- not many food or espresso choices, etc. Now they've got smoothies, sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, lattes you've never heard of. And every time I go, there's something new. (I should know: I studied for my bar exam almost exclusively here two summers ago.) One star off because everything is ridiculously expensive, though that's what you get when you want friendly baristas and better-than-Starbucks quality. Their reward card -- 1 drink free for every 10 purchased -- helps make up for the difference. read more

I'm glad I had the opportunity to stop by again. I dropped in during their soft opening a year ago, and then life happened and I never came back. Today I got off early, so decided to sit down with a cup and finish my grading. The space is really lovely. They manage to hit the right notes to make it old timey but not overly kitchy. The seating is minimal, but it wasn't crowded and I was able to speed out. They have about 3 indoor seating "zones" that vary from tables to barstools. They also have a nice outdoor garden. The prices are high, but seem fair for the quality. I had a mocha latte which was delicious. They have a few sandwiches and a selection of baked goods that seem to cater to a variety of needs- vegan, gluten free, etc. They have also curated available selection of craft goods for sale, like soaps, honeys, sauces and candles. I am updating my review of the place. It has become my preferred coffee shop over the year whenever I am in the neighborhood though I no longer live in the neighborhood. I particularly like their backyard seatings on a nice sunny day. They make all the drinks top notch and haven't been disappointed since my first episode. Baristas are friendly and efficient despite the considerable business they have garnered over the past year or two. Cute coffee shop. Great for getting coffee togo but not for sitting. There are not alot of seats. They also have food but it is pricey.

Been to this place about 4 times now over the course of a few months. The indoor space and coffee were nice enough so I expected the food and outdoor space to follow. Sadly, they did not. You couldn't even call the sandwiches forgettable. They are almost hauntingly bad. The butcher is a confusing thing. From the name butcher you might imagine a lot of good meat. Instead it's a breakfast sandwich on a dry, round bun with 3 tiny half-links and so little cheese that it serves absolutely no function. So $10 for that? The pulled pork was equally uninspired. With so little spaces in the neighborhood to sit outside it's really a bummer about the backyard too. It seems like a afterthought. I'd come back for a coffee and to sit outside if they hired someone to make some simple design choices. And if the wifi worked. read more

Coffee and food is good but the prices are crazy for what you're getting. I've tried most of their breakfast bowls and they're so expensive considering they're under seasoned, simple dishes. I keep trying to convince myself that I should order their food but it's always underwhelming. They do have a good scone though, and I enjoy their lavender coconut lattes. read more

I usually get a mocha on my days off, and every time he makes it for me, It has worked out with great care and executed within a minute--definitely a spot to go to if you want your drink elaborately well made. Update #2 ... Forgot to update since they got sandwiches and juices. Both are really great! I love the Roger Rabbit juice in particular and order it with added cucumber to cut the carrot a little. The sandwiches are really great too, with lots of different flavors and types of sandwiches, though my only complaint would be the type of bread. I feel like if they used toasted baguettes the texture would be much better, as the current bread can be a little squishy which can be problematic if the sandwich ingredients are a soft themselves. This is a cozy little cafe right off Queens Blvd. The woman at the counter was really friendly and seemed to be happy to be working. She made friendly conversation as she made my drink and told me how they try to use all natural ingredients and avoid artificial flavors and excessive sugar. From the taste of everything I was definitely able to tell that she knew what she was talking about. The food was a little bit on the pricey end but I guess that's just the price you pay for wholesome ingredients. Bonus points for presentation with the knife in the sandwich. read more

My go to coffee spot in Sunnyside. Great place for lattes, cappuccinos, cold brew, etc. The space is light, bright, and modern. I also appreciate the large ice cubes for the cold beverages. Backyard is perfect for nice days. Looks like they're getting more seating for the Spring/Summer, which will be great! I wouldn't complain if they switched out some of the awkward seating back there or dusted off the pollen in the mornings. I realllllly wish I liked the breakfast sandwiches, but I just don't think they're that great and they're on the pricey side for what they are, in my opinion. Would be great if they expanded lunch sandwich options too. I'm still looking for a good vegetarian lunch sandwich in the neighborhood. The pastry selection is good, but I wish they were fresher. I really miss 51st Bakery & Cafe in LIC which had amazing breakfast and lunch sandwiches and fresh pastries. Maybe I was spoiled there. read more

This is the coffee shop I've been wanting in Sunnyside! Stumptown coffee, nitro brew, and free almond milk, plus a variety of snacks and cold beverages (La Croix!). The pastries look delicious, and it's a great place to work with desks and free wi-fi. Safe to say that this is my new go-to work spot. Only downside: the sandwiches take a loooooong time to come out. I stopped by here to get something "to-go" and almost missed my bus because I was waiting 25 minutes for a sandwich. This meal looked nothing like what they have posted on their instagram. The minuscule serving size of avocado was so disappointing.
