avocado toast with salmon
Min B.

I visited on a weekday after I moved to a nearby area. They had an extensive menu for drinks, sandwiches and desserts! I thought the interior was cute and they even had a nice outdoor section that would be perfect in sunny weather. The avocado toast that I got was pretty good but very typical. I would go back but I would focus more on the desserts next time.

Pastrami, Egg, & Cheese on Croissant (~$8)

Ordered: Pastrami, Egg, & Cheese on Croissant (~$8) Spinach & Ricotta Empanada (~$6) with chipotle aioli Iced Latte (~$6) w Lavender (+75¢) and Oat Milk (+$1) Aya's take: Cafe 9 is a super cute hidden gem in Astoria and more people should know about it! There's a decent amount of indoor seating and plenty of outdoor seating in their back patio. My Iced Latte with lavender and oat milk was well-made and they don't skimp out on the lavender. I opted for oat milk because they don't have a skim or fat free option; I wish they did because I would've preferred that and saved $1 as well. The Spinach & Ricotta Empanada was pretty decent but a bit steep for $6. I loved the chipotle aioli that it came with and actually used that for our breakfast sandwich. The Pastrami, Egg, & Cheese on Croissant didn't hit the spot as I had hoped. The egg & cheese were fine but the taste and texture of the pastrami was off. The proportion of all the ingredients compared to the croissant could've have been better. The sandwich also needed some sauce or a fresh element (tomato, avocado, etc.) which would've elevated the flavor profile. It's a cute spot and if I find myself back here, I'd stick to their coffee beverages or maybe a non-breakfast sandwich.

Super cute location! Love the flowers and decor in the cafe. It feels very cozy and inviting. They also have a back patio which is lovely in this spring weather. Ordered a breakfast sandwich and a lemonade mint drink. The lemonade was made with real mint and fresh lemons and was perfectly tart. Baristas are very friendly. Very quiet around this time (4pm on a weekday).

The food is great, baked goods are made fresh daily, coffee is good, they have many quality teas to choose from. The coffee shop itself is so cute, warm and cozy. Music is chill so you can go to wfh there also. The staff is super friendly, very community oriented, always gives great service. LGBTQ+ friendly, sometimes they have events there too! Best place in Astoria (yes I'm there all the time)

According to the team this darling coffee shop near Rainey Park has only been open for two months! There is an abundance of indoor seating, a couple of tables out front and far less obvious is the private patio in the back. There are a plethora of food options from smoothies to sandwiches and pastries. I ordered my classic match latte (the standard upon which I now judge all coffee shops!) and a tuna sandwich with spicy mayo. It was yum! I was invited to have a seat outside, if I wished, and they brought my coffee and then my sandwich as it was ready. A very relaxing afternoon break. Would definitely come again!

If you're hunting for a neighborhood spot in Astoria that feels like home the moment you step inside, put Cafe 9 at the very top of your list. Frank, the ever-gracious owner, has built more than a coffee shop; he's created a little community hub where regulars greet each other with smiles and newcomers are welcomed like old friends. Every detail shows care and artistry, from the ceramic plates and mugs to the thoughtfully chosen furniture that invites you to linger. Frank's signature omelette is hearty and packed with flavors, and don't skip the baked empanadas or sandwiches, especially with their house-made chipotle mayo (you'll dream about that smoky kick!). The açaí bowls arrive beautifully plated (not the plastic containers you normally see elsewhere), bursting with fresh fruits and perfect for a sunny day. Pair it all with a cup of their expertly roasted coffee and you've got more than a meal; you've got an experience! Cafe 9 is delicious, design-forward, and, above all, customer-focused. We used to live just a few blocks away, and though we're now in a slightly farther neighborhood, we still make special trips back - because catching up with Frank and soaking in that welcoming vibe is always worth it. Highly recommended!

The ambiance is a NYCity vibe. Great neighborhood place to sit, have a coffe inside or on the patio. Service is with a smile. The owner is present, so this place jumps with excitement! The food is great, breakfast is fresh, coffee choices are delicious . When you want to find a friendly face, and a cup of Joe-- just go!

Came here several times for breakfast. Food and drinks are consistent and very delicious. The ambience is cozy and inviting. The service is excellent and you can tell the guy running the place is passionate about delivering high quality food and experience. We will definitely be returning.

I loved the creativity put in this arch.

Loved this place. Good food, service, and ambience. Total win! I had a Mariposa drink, and the chicken pesto sandwich. The food simple but well made and good. Fresh too. I don't really go out of my way and leave a comment but I had to for this one. If you ever want to feel like you left the country for a quick second, this place would be it. The ambiance was beautiful, I put pictures here but it was a total scape from the busy city streets. The secret patio was quiet and private. And the service, the gentlemen there was happy to be there it seemed. I originally asked for my sandwhich to go until I saw the secret patio and he came all the way out to find me to give me my to-go-sandwhich and I ended up staying to eat it there after all. I just couldn't leave. I don't live in the city, but I'll be visiting my friend again just to stop by here again.

Totally a hidden gem in this neighborhood. Tried to find a casual cafe to rest after workout and never expected the cafe would be so cozy and welcoming. Love every aspects of the cafe, decoration, atmosphere, food and the vibe. Definitely will come back and highly recommended!!!

Do it! Café 9 serves the most delicious omelettes, sandwiches and salads in this forgotten, food desert corner of Astoria. Eat in the climate controlled dining hall, or out back in their shaded patio where dogs are welcomed with a fresh bowl of water. Service is fast and friendly. Help yourself to a free glass of chilled fruit/vegetable infused water while you wait on your take out, or choose a table where your order will be brought to you. The bathroom is huge and spotlessly clean. A rare and wonderful find in Astoria.

Obviously as a wheelchair user, I cannot sit at the high tables, and when I have asked the staff for understanding, other places have denied me. I felt heard without advocating for common sense and I greatly appreciate the humility. Thank you!

The coffee is excellent - I believe it's roasted by devocion. I also love how they serve their coffee in glass/ceramic cups and glasses for those dining in. I usually will get the healthy start - I love their dressing and the eggs are always seasoned perfectly. The staff are nice but can seem a little stressed when things get busy. They have a table to pickup preorders so you don't have to wait in the main line. I ordered a dozen for $39. You can select your assortment. Here's my review in order from the best to the least desirable, according to our group. Vanilla custard- the filling was thick and speckled with vanilla beans. It wasn't too sweet. This was the best according to our group. Strawberry filled- this is most traditional and Breads Bakery does a nice job. The jam is homemade. Pistachio- this doughnut was filled with smooth pistachio cream and was topped with a few pieces of pistachio. Not traditional, but they did a good job. Chocolate- the filling tasted like a semisweet or bittersweet cream/custard. Like the others, it was smooth. The vanilla was more popular among our group and I personally didn't love this doughnut. Mango- this was the one that those in my group felt missed the mark. It wasn't cloyingly sweet, so that was good, but the filling didn't do anything for us either. If you're looking for a mango dessert the one at Lysée is a real winner.

When I moved to the UES, I was worried finding a new local roaster. I've had bad experiences where the beans are too oily or something is off that messes with my usually grind size/extraction time. No issues with Oslo's beans. 2. They actually know how to make a proper americano. Every coffee shop takes a standard cup, puts in the espresso shot, and then fills hot water to the brim of the cup. This destroys the flavor of the espresso. You end up with hot water that tastes slightly like coffee. Oslo chooses quality over quantity. They don't fill the water up to the brim, so you have a cup with 2/3 of liquid; however, this is a proper americano. You can taste the difference. At other shops, I just get drip coffee because they don't know what they're doing. Oslo knows what they're doing. That's why I come here.

We were a little late for our reservation, and they gave our table away, which was quite annoying. However, the service, hospitality, and food more than made up for it. Someone came over to apologize for the mix up and offered us complimentary white wine while we waited for another table to open up. The wine was delicious! When we were finally seated, we started with some drinks. I got the Speranza, and it was light, fresh, and delicious! We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary bread basket brought to the table, as it's a rarity in nyc these days. We split a burrata amongst the table. Loved the addition of figs. I ordered the rigatoni all'aragosta for my dish, which was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. There was a decent portion of lobster in the dish, and I couldn't even finish all of it, I was so full. One of the best pasta dishes I've had in a while. My friends ordered the bolognese and the fettuccine alla nerano, and they enjoyed their dishes as well! We skipped dessert this time, but I would definitely be back for it. I also want to try the paccheri next time, as well as their coffee shop in the mornings! Overall, a well executed restaurant with great ambience (would be great for a date night with the dim lighting and ability to hear each other speak). They just need to get a bigger dining room so they can seat more parties because they always seem to be booked full!

The pasta was good. Reasonable amount of pasta but we would have liked some more chunks of lobster for the price. I thought the sauce was only ok but my girlfriend liked it. The guazzetto di Pesci was only fair. The sauce was lacking flavor. Also a very small bowl of broth with maybe 3 small shrimp and muscles, a few small chunks of fish. and two sad, tiny pieces of bread on the side. Since we were still quite hungry after the meal, we ordered the lotus chocolate caramel dessert. This was the only dish we really liked. kinda hard to mess up gelato though. It came with a hard outer candy shell and a very small cookie center that was sweet and delicious. Overall, an average meal at best that we both felt was lacking in taste and size. Won't return.
