    6. Curry Puff
    Theresa M.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Bloomfield! The staff is very friendly and it's a nice cozy restaurant. For the food we ordered a few things for the table: Curry Puffs, Chicken Satay, and Calamari. Curry Puffs - omg, the puff pastry?? SO DELICIOUS. Melt in your mouth quality and the inside is a mixture of potato and onions with curry powder. I would come back just to order these again. TIP: the puffs are good on their own but it's a different taste when you dip it in the cucumber sauce. Try it both ways! Chicken Satay - a good staple Thai dish. Almost always get this when we go here. Calamari - loved this dish! The calamari was very fresh and dipped in the sweet and spicy sauce - match made in heaven. I also really liked that the calamari did not have too much breading. For my entree, I ordered the Guay Tiew Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle). This dish has so much flavor and seasoning in it! It is on the spicy side (so pairs well with thai iced tea) but the noodles are always really fresh and the seasoning is always on point. Not Pictured: Thai Iced Tea and Sticky Rice with Peaches. Thai Iced Tea was nice and sweet (also did not taste powdery at all, so you can tell it's freshly made). For dessert I got the sticky rice with peaches (since mango was out of season). I wish I remembered to take a picture but I ate it too fast LOL. As far as this dessert goes, I haven't found any other local spots that make it as good as here! It's also definitely authentic as I've had this dish in Thailand too. Overall, I really love this place. I haven't had a dish here I didn't like and will be back to try more.

I experience good customer service during my visit to Brookside Thai Restaurant. Curious about Vegan options (largely due to so many Vegetarian options), I find the menu full of Vegan/Veganizable options! I order the Pad Med Ma-Moung, Spring Rolls, and Chive Slices. Every bite of every portion of the meal is so good, so tasty! The appetizers are enough reason to visit the eatery; the Chive Slices are crunchy and sweet, tastier to me without the sauce; the Spring Rolls taste as equally good with or without the accompanying sauce largely due to the Black Pepper. The Pad Med Ma-Moung is good all around though the sauce heavily complements every ingredient. Even so, the overall meal is very filling, find no surprise if you have leftovers. The interior is nice, quaint, and the environment during my visit is very friendly.

    $26 and 4 small pieces of duck : (
    Denise M.

I was super excited to eat my crispy duck that cost me an arm and a leg but I said it must be good . Well my $26 duck came with 4 small pieces and tons of leaves . So at this point I'm wondering if I got charged $26 for leaves because my bowl is full of it. I was going to split this with my boyfriend and he won't even taste it bc he said it's not enough and he wants me to eat something. I don't usually write bad reviews but this was not nice . Charging people for a full meal and deliver 4 small pieces . Shame on you . Won't be buying from them ever again. I had duck in montclair at Kai pang and even had enough to take home smfh .

    Spoiled Tom kha
    Danny S.

Pad Thai had no peanuts. No lime. No chili flakes. No Thai spice at all. Just boiled chicken on overcooked noodles with some sugar. Tom kha is curdling. I'm afraid to eat it. Probably spoiled cream. Save your money. These ppl are disgusting.

What you get for 19.99! Lol

Ordered from this place tonight and it was horrific! Ordered an appetizer and entree, my sister had to convince me to eat it as I was tempted to chuck the whole thing in the garbage. Whole fish was 2 dried pieces of, jasmine rice that I can prepare better. The only edible thing was the sauce for the fish. The people at the restaurant could care less, wanted to know if I wanted to pay market price for the whole fish? I could. Or you can state that on your menu instead of charging 20.00 for pure trash. Just be transparent ma'am. I would never, ever patronize this place nor recommend it. Garbage!

This is the best Thai restaurant I've been to. I have only dined here once, so perhaps my 5 star review is a bit hasty, but the food was amazing, so there it is. I tried: Fried Calamari Appetizer: Very good and not heavily fried. Me Krob: very good, sweet & sour crispy noodle w/ shrimp in tamarind sauce. Spring roll apps: Very good Andaman Seafood: Combination of shrimp, calamari, scallops, & salmon w/ clear vermicelli, ginger, mushrooms & mixed vegetables in oyster sauce & chef's special sauce. The broth was amazing, the seafood was tender and perfectly cooked, and there was a good broth to seafood to rice noodle ratio in this dish. Also a nice amount of spice in the broth. Fried banana a la mode: great desert that meets your fruit requirement for the day as well (haha, not really). This can be shared with one or two others. Love BYOB, good prices, and the service was outstanding. I was with a large group and good service can be hard to find under these circumstances, but our waiters were great and I appreciated their recommendation when I was deciding between two dishes.

Up next…read moreon my list was Topaz Thai in Belleville, a business that's been sitting in my Yelp collections for awhile. With plenty of positive reviews, I was excited to give it a try! This family-owned biz is on Washington Ave. Parking can be a little annoying since it's a busy street with metered spaces, but there's a small paid lot next door with a limited number of spots. I stopped by on a Saturday evening and was seated right away. The place felt cozy and casual with the charm of a mom-and-pop restaurant. The menu is full of Thai classics, and the lunch specials seem like a great value. Prices are reasonable too, with most entrees under $20. Whenever I try a new Thai spot, I like to get a few staple dishes that I've ordered countless times before. Consider it my unofficial Litmus test! I went with: *Mama Loaded Thai Tacos $11.95 [crispy shells topped with ground chicken, herbs, cilantro, nuts, ginger, and lemon] - Loaded is definitely the right word here. These crispy shells were packed to the brim with flavorful, well-seasoned ground chicken and toppings in every bite. They also served it with a bottle of their EXTRA spicy Thai chili sauce-and trust me, it lives up to its name. Just a few drops had my tongue on fire! They're not traditional tacos, but I liked the Thai-inspired twist on them. The unique flavors were a delicious start to the meal. *Chicken Rama Curry with side of Jasmine rice $16.95 [coconut milk, red curry paste, roasted peanuts, tamarind paste, and fish sauce topped with chicken & mixed vegetables] - The winning dish! The curry was so rich, creamy, and nutty. It was so good that I was tempted to pick up the bowl and drink every last drop LOL. The spice level started off mild, but the heat slowly built up after a few spoonfuls. *Chicken Pad Thai $15.95 [stir-fried thin noodles with egg, peanuts, scallion, bean sprouts, and tamarind sauce] - You can't skip Thailand's national dish! The noodles were perfectly cooked, and they didn't skimp on the protein. I got PLENTY of tender chicken in every bite. The only thing holding it back from being a 5/5 for me was the sauce. Pad thai is known for its balance of savory, sweet, tangy, and nutty flavors, and this was a little TOO sweet for me. The sugar overpowered the other flavors. I wish they had given me a lime wedge to brighten things up. Still, I enjoyed the dish overall and can see it being a hit for anyone who prefers a sweeter pad thai. *Mango Sticky Rice $12.95 [coconut sticky rice with fresh mango and coconut cream] - It's mango season, baby, so there's no way I was leaving without ordering this! The rice was warm, lightly sweet, and infused with a creamy coconut flavor. Absolutely loved the sticky and chewy texture. The mango was more sour/tart than sweet. A riper mango would've made this dessert even better, but this was still the perfect ending to a meal. As for the portion sizes? No complaints. I had leftovers to take home and still felt satisfied. The service was on point! Everyone was kind and attentive. The food came out quickly, so there really wasn't much waiting around. Topaz Thai, you made a strong first impression! Between the homey atmosphere, solid food, reasonable prices, great value, and friendly service, this spot easily earned a second visit. I'm excited to come back and try more menu items!
