We started off with the vegetarian tom yum soup. Very well made with bold aromas of lime zest and coconut filling the air around our table, this soup was a light first course. The pieces of gluten which replaced the chicken were neutrally flavored and soft. The entree we decided upon was the tofu with vegetables, basil, and cashews. It was described on the menu as hard pressed tofu, but it was, in fact, gluten. No matter, as it was very good. Prices were very reasonable here, and the service was good. The atmosphere is kitchy Thai, but it's clean and bright. There's plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans here, as well. Thumbs up! read more

Three Good Years, then a Big Problem After three years of having Brookside Thai being our family's Go-To Thai Restaurant in the area, our 4 star rating dropped to 1 on Sept. 1 when our 10 year old son got violently ill after eating their dumplings and was up all night being sick and crying. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. 1st experience not so great. I asked for Thai basil noodles medium heat vegetarian, they gave me either chicken or prom which I do NOT eat and SPICY( cuz I tasted the noodle to see). I also order curry puffs which were JUST ok. The place has a nice ambiance. Definitely nice to sit in and have a nice dinner or lunch. I've been going to this restaurant since approximately 2005 and it's always been a family favorite. I now live about 35 miles away and have still been willing to travel. We went yesterday for Fathers Day and the dinner was simply put poor. We all ordered our usual food.. the soups tasted "off" and almost sour (we get Gang Jude not the Tom Yum that is purposely on the sour side), my mussels were under cooked and slimy and my mother's dish came out cold with some vegetables being ice cold (like they were straight out of the refrigerator) and the rest of the dishes were just warm. We were one of just 2 tables (which speaks volumes from the times when I had to wait almost an hour for a table) in the restaurant so there's no reason the food should have been sitting and waiting to get cold like that. I know the restaurant has changed hands a few times since I've been going and that's what it seemed like happened this time around. As a favorite place I would like to give it one more shot but, unfortunately with iffy seafood I'm not sure I'm willing to chance it... read more

The last time (before tonight) the whole fish in tamarind was a little dry, but I thought it was just an off night. But today I went with two friends (who we raved about this place) and fish was noticeably dry and the sauce was watery. Another couple came and ordered the drunken noodles (not named that way on the menu). And they found a cockroach in it! And it was clearly cooked in. Nobody in our party was able to continue eating. The interior is nice, clean, and tastefully decorated. The staff is really great. I dont understand the food/service negative reviews here, I have lived in Bloomfield for 7 years, and been going here about 6, the food is always great, very spicy and delicious, but the only three complaints I can give them are: they do NOT deliver (they are missing out on a LOT of business by doing so, They close too EARLY for my taste, and make a point of letting you know they want to leave (without saying so in words), ANd the owner/hostess is really nice but ALWAYS pushing the whole fish- understandable considering fish is perishable, but seriously, if I want a whole fish, I will ask you some day for one. Apps: all really great, but the stand out is the combination for two- has really well prepared fried calamari, chicken saté, curry puffs awesome jumbo shrimps, spring rolls and a really tasty salad, all for under 14 bucks. I was looking to order a few trays of Thai food for my dinner party and went with Brookside Thai since it's local and the food was pleasant the last time I was there. I ordered trays of fried calamari, Pad See Ew with tofu, and basil fried rice with shrimp and calamari. The fried calamari should be eaten within the hour, otherwise it becomes difficult to eat. The batter was really thick and by the time I served it (over an hr later), the exterior hardened but the calamari itself remained fairly tender. I popped it in the oven for a few minutes which helped revitalize it. The sweet chili sauce added flavor. The Pad See Ew was tasty with the tofu which actually tasted like chicken. Perhaps they use vegetarian chicken? However it was a bit greasy for me. My favorite was the basil fried rice which was flavorful and spicy. If it had 3x more shrimp and calamari, it would have been perfect. As far as the customer service, it was hot and cold. The woman who took my order was helpful. When I called the day before the party to confirm my order, the woman could not be bothered and rushed me off the phone. Another woman called me the day of to reconfirm and was more professional. Looks like one needs to train the other. All in all, the food was a good supplement to the food I prepared but if there is a next time I will not order such greasy dishes. read more

I came here to fulfill a crazy craving for some pad cee ew and tom yum soup. We all need a little lemongrass and spicy to our lives! The decor is absolutely beautiful. Around the walls benches with traditional looking cushions. Their was cute accents all over the place. Really cute place for a date night, or just a nice dinner. Gave a great ambiance. Now for the food!! For an app, we had the Hot combo. It included curry puffs, tempura shrimp, tempura squid, spring rolls, chicken satay and a salad in the middle of it. The curry buffs were AMAZING!! The chicken satay was also good, more of a curry flavor to it then I've previously had but still good. The tom yum soup was not that good. It wasn't spicy at all, didn't have enough lemongrass... Just tasted like broth. When I asked for hot sauce, they gave me a sweet chili sauce which was pretty greasy and added a weird flavor to the soup. For our main courses, we had shrimp pad Thai which was very good. A little on the sweeter side but still delicious. My other friend went for the beef pad Thai and it was pretty good. The shrimp pad Thai was much better. The chicken pad cee we was decent. Nothing out of the world. Chicken had a funny taste to it. I would get it again but with veggies or shrimp tho. What I disliked about this place is although the food, staff, and decor is nice, they don't make your food spicy!!! It's Thai... It's supposed to be spicy, I'm supposed to get a kick and ask myself why did I get this so spicy. But instead they give a tray for different condiments which can help you adjust your spice level. They all had very distinct after tastes which takes away from the actual dish. I had to add what seemed to be crushed red pepper for that kick. I will be back to try more of their dishes but I have to keep that it's not spicy in mind. But those curry puffs are worth the return trip, alone. read more

This place has been our long time favorite for a few years now. The food is usually a hit and the prices are great too. We get always get the chicken & broccoli in the garlic cilantro sauce, the vegetarian curry puffs, and then a vegetarian entree - usually sweet & sour sauce. This place is great in catering to the dietary needs of vegetarians and meat lovers, which is always a plus! I'm also a fan of the timing- there is usually never a long wait even with a crowd. The only reason I haven't put in 4 stars is because of an older woman that works there who is consistently rude and impolite, in person and on the phone. It's extremely off putting. She does not, however, take away from the otherwise phenomenal service of the waiters and waitresses. read more

Wonderful experience. Service was great. We had a few questions about ingredients, so the chef was kind enough to visit our table. Lovely decor, nice music. Our waitress was very attentive. I had a menu special (sp7 I believe), stir fried pumpkin and eggplant with tofu topped with crispy Thai basil. Wow, Soooo freaking delicious. Just one minor complaint was that I asked for it to be very spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. Delicious still, just not spicy. I'll always love this place no matter what. This is the first Thai food I ever had so it will always be the standard I hold all Thai food to. It has gone downhill a bit in recent years but I still always come back to it. The tofu is absolutely unparalleled, I have no clue how they do it. The prices are always reasonable and the portions are generous. There used to be a little market in the back for Thai ingredients but I don't think it's open anymore. I don't live in the area anymore but I'll still make the trip up at least once a season to get $50 worth of Thai food that will last me for a week. I've never had anything here that was bad, but my favorites are the classics: green curry, pad thai, curry puffs, satay, tom yum, and thai iced tea. read more

The vegetables were terrible, the noodles were unlike any I've ever encountered before in Pad Thai, the tofu was sour and soggy and the worst aspect was the owners response when I returned it. She didn't care and gave no apologies what so ever. If you're going to serve food, do it right or just give up. They wasted time and money making garbage and I won't be returning. Great Thai food and value in a plain vanilla envelope. No the restaurant is not pretty, cozy, hip, or refreshing, but the food is terrific! And it won't hurt your wallet either. Try the traditional dishes lie Pad Thai noodles, or Pad Prig Khing. They are delicious and the portions are generous. A particular favorite of mine is the butterflied whole fish ( I believe it's generally red snapper) in a garlic sauce. Plain wonderful! Try it. This was the best Thai food I have ever had. Not only was the food amazing the service was amazing. I felt like I was with family. It was our first time there and we had our one and a half year old daughter with us. Even she felt like family to the point she wanted "uppy" to the owners sister. She loved her. Ordered takeout from here for the first time in 5 years. Haven't been in 5 years because the first time was awful but decided to give it another shot. Ordered green curry and asked for salmon instead of shrimp and the chef or owner made it was more complicated than it needed to be. It's not my responsibility to explain to the cooks how to replace shrimp with salmon. Ordered vegetarian pad Thai which came with chicken and on top of that had absolutely no flavor. Ordered shrimp pad Thai for pickup, when I got there the takeout bag given to me had someone else's name. I was told to open it and make sure it was mine because they think they messed up the name. No problem, it was mine so I took it and left. When I got back to eat my lunch I opened it to see it was chicken and not shrimp. Again not a problem I just picked the chicken out of it. What really ruined things for me was once I started moving around the noodles to pick the chicken out, I found a large piece of plastic wrapper (about the size of my thumb). So I've been wanting to try this place out for a while, because I drive past it almost daily. Let me tell you; this place did NOT disappoint!!! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by the nice waitresses and the amazing smell the food. If you're not hungry and you walk in, you suddenly feel the urge to order everything on the menu (which is quite large I might add) the seating was comfortable and the lighting and décor were nice. It's also BYO, so that's always a major plus. We ordered the Spring Roll appetizers and the Thai style mussels...OMG heaven! The spicy chili sauce they serve to go with the mussels was out of this world and the broth was so good I wanted to sop it up like a soup. And the spring rolls were delicious too. For dinner, we decided to share 2 dishes. Of course we went with the Chicken Pad Thai (a must) and a recommendation by our waitress which was Pad Prew Wann. So much awesome!!!!!!!!!!! And to finish off what was already an amazing meal and experience we got the Thai custard dessert. WHOA! A few years ago I enjoyed eating here at least once a week. Over the years the managment has shifted and the woman at the front counter has been rude on multiple occasions. She has treated me as if I were a nonpaying teenage customer without money. Once occasion I was waiting for my family at a big table where she kept approaching and making jokes asking if they were actually coming, then having me translate what her hispanic workers were saying. Mind you I am of Asian descent she could have made me feel more welcomed and comfortable rather than ridiculed for my party being so late. At times I would come in to pick up food where the same woman would speak down to me for no apparent reason and she is rude to the other young servers who work there. The good: affordable and BYOB apparently The bad: lacking in taste So I ordered the chicken pad Thai.. figured that's a good measure of Thai places.. should've known when I asked for "medium spiciness" and was told they don't cook it like that but will give me the chili oil on side.. erm ok..? That's a first.. I kind of indicate my level of preferred spiciness from years of ordering Thai but okay.. Was the driest lack luster pad Thai I've ever had. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? But it's not like one goes to KFC to order a steak.. ok moving on.. I also ordered a noodle dish which ended up being noodle soup.. well that's fine but couldn't eat it.
