I HATE marinara! when she showed me the zucchini there was no red crap on it, so I thought that maybe it was a flavoring of some sort. When I got home, there was this red crap all over it!! Char broiled chicken is a 5 absolutely delicious! Only there seems to be a glitch in their staffing- it has been consistently understaffed and unprepared for the 6pm dinner crowd EVERYDAY of the week. We've been here 10 years and in the last 8 months have been this way. Prime example, tonight we decided to call early (5:30) and were told it would be a 45 minute wait for two dinners. I used to like getting carryout from Brooster's back when I lived in the area. I always went with the half chicken meal w/ mashed potato and baked bean sides. Each of their meals also comes with a slice of Texas Toast. Enjoyed it every time -- I never had a bad meal from this place. Great place for a solid carryout dinner. The chicken is out of this world. It's definitely the best I've ever had. There service was pretty fast. Only drawback with this place is that it says it's open at 11am, I went yesterday and tried to come in, and the doors were locked. Worst customer service experience. Broosters must not need nor care about new clients that live in the area and would be repeat business. We walked in at 7:10 p.m and were told that that it would be a 30 minute wait for chicken (even though there was grill full of chicken). We left to find another spot to eat but decided the chicken looked good so we went back not even 5 minutes later to place our order and wait. When we walked backed in, someone new was at the register and told us that if would now be a 45 minute wait for chicken (yet the grill was even more full of chicken being made when we first walked in) and that in 45 minutes they would be closing, so they would not let us order chicken. I am so sorry our business today (and potentially repeat business) was not worth it to the owner and staff to have to wait close to closing time to put our full order together. First, I have no idea what could have changed so drastically in less than 5 minutes that we got two different answers. Second,it's not like we came 5 minutes before closing. We came 45 minutes before closing. Perhaps if the word chicken is in the name of your restaurant and that is what you are "known" for, you should have more grills full of chicken (besides the giant grill full of chicken already in plain view). What's worse is that no one felt bed nor offered any type of rain check for another day in the future. Again, I guess they only care about some and not all customers. read more

We have been in the area for 17 years and had frequented this place many times. Tonight we purchase 1 and 1/2 chicken and some sides. The chicken was very dry. Even the dark meat was dry. It was all over done. Sides were very average as well. I can think of the chicken being very dry in the recent past as well. Probably will take this place off my list going forward. 3 Stars for the last 20 years I've been eating here and the great food. A "healthier" option compared to just about anything else around and the food is fantastic. Unfortunately the last few months have left me feeling a bit un-satiated. 3 separate times from the beginning of the year until now I've gotten home to realize that I'm missing food I paid for. Rarely seen her around in all this time. She's nice and sweet. Every time my order is lacking she's been working. It's a problem because I've got a 6 year old hyperactive kid that's a lot of work to even get food. Not to mention I'm obviously going to give her the food and I'm the one looking in the fridge. The 3rd time I finally call up and say something because....I'm hungry. And getting her back in the car and all of that just isn't worth it. Call up and talk to the son? Grandson? Not sure but part of the family and he tells he is marking down my name and what's owed. I'm satisfied as I'm not doing it again. About a month later we stop in to grab some dinner and I remember that I've got a credit coming. I had already ordered but decided to cash it in cause I'm a glutton for that food. I'm up for eating the extra portion. So I tell the owner about the credit and his reaction is to basically tell me I'm a liar. I'm totally confused and explain the call/credit situation cause of the 3! out of the last 6 that times I paid over $20 for $10 worth of food. He tells me "We don't do credits, who told you that!?" I said the young guy was working. He says "No, only 3 people work here, me, my daughter and (I forget the last)." The big problem for me is he's looking at me like I'm trying to steal from him! After I was patient and understanding that things happen, on 3 separate (recent) visits. At this point I'm probably out $20 all together. First off I've known this man for 15-20 years. Not by name but by regularity. And to tell me I'm lying because the people I say told me and took my order don't work here!? Come on man. Bottom line...the food is pretty dang good. Always felt like a valued customer. But this put me off enough to say I'm done. 100% treated like I was the one stealing from him. Broosters is perfect for a cheap, simple, healthy, not overly filling, delicious lunch. I'd recommend the quarter chicken dinner which comes with 4 pieces of chicken, 2 sides and garlic bread. The sandwiches and burrito are good too, but the bottom line here is that the chicken is excellent - tender, crispy, well seasoned, perfectly grilled. Been here many times over the years, but I am never going back, primarily because of food safety issues but also because of the dismal service. Arrived at 7:15 pm on a Sunday evening, only to stand at the counter for a full five minutes (honestly) while the manager finished a phone conversation in the back. The cook went back to summon him twice, without results. While waiting, I watched the cook take three pieces of raw chicken off the grill, place them on the same surface where finished birds are processed, whack them with a cleaver, and then place them back on the grill. That was Cross-Contamination 101, and something I'm sure DuPage County health officials would find to be grounds for immediate action, like temporary closure. I should have left immediately. But at this point the manager appeared, saying only, "What's up, boss?" I ordered the No. 2, which is 12 pieces of chicken and two sides. Here's what happened next: Manager: "Did you call ahead?" Me: "No." Manager: "Well, that's gonna take 45 minutes, and we close at 8 p.m. There's no way. Sorry." Now, I've carried out chicken from this place for 15 or 20 years, at least, and I've never called ahead. Ever. But in retrospect, it's just as well, because I likely spared my family from a nasty bout of salmonella-induced illness. read more
