By far the worst beef I've had in a long time. It was screaming hot, which made for a very chewy bite. The giardiniera have a good amount of heat. $15.70 for a sandwich and a soda is crazy. I give it a 4.5 out of ten. One and done for me. So many better places in the area. Service wasn't very friendly and they do keep the small dining room clean at least. read more

Saw a recent review and with Beef in their name, I decided to try it out. I was disappointed in the taste, no flavor. Cannot compare to in-house beefs like Johnnie, Michaels or Jays. I will not return. I ordered the Beef hot, it came plain with a side cup of giardinera. read more

I tried Maxwell's today. Was looking for a quick Chicago dog and fries. They provided that, plus I added a Pizza Puff. They arrived pretty quick, but the place is a bit worse for wear. Needs a good cleaning + Broken stools. There are better options in this area. I wanted Mt. Dew but that was out. Iced tea was also out. I haven't tried the beef so I don't know what that's like. This is the second time I've been here. It's a good local spot. Yes, it seems like the owner on the register never smiles or presents a positive customer experience. However, the Mexicans doing the cooking always give you a smile and tell you to have a nice day while they hand you your food. They have seating inside and outside. One of the stools inside needs to be fixed. Lots of parking. I ordered an Italian beef with sweet peppers and a pizza puff. The meat in the Italian beef is not dry, it's moist throughout. The pizza puff has a crunchy exterior and ample filling on the inside. Portions are pretty good. I did order gyros and a burger in the past, both were delicious. The portions for those were huge. Definitely a solid lunch choice. read more

Tried once again after many years later since moved to way South Woodridge and was good but not great. Had a gyros had better from other places but their fries we really good but not hot since by the time we got them home we're cooled off. That's why we usually don't go there buts it's no fault of the establishment. Also got hotdog and fries which were good but you usually can't mess that up. Didn't try the beef maybe we will try that sometime in the future but Luke warm fries are just the issue. Overall would recommend to try. read more

I stopped in here a few weeks ago for a quick lunch. This is your standard hot dog/Italian beef restaurant - no frills and quick service. Service is quick and prices are reasonable. I ordered a Chicago hot dog with fries, everything was fine expect I was thrown off that they put ketchup on the hot dog with the Chicago toppings. I would never stay here and eat. The place is a dump; broken seat at the counter, counter is dirty, floor is slick with air born grease. However, their food is good and plentiful. Don't let the price scare you off. The entrees are 2 meals worth. You will get a big bang for your buck, whatever you order. I usually get the gyro plater but I have tried most everything on the menu board and nothing is "bad". I especially like their "old school" fries, deep fried in the good stuff that is horrible for you but I love it anyway. read more

One of the best beef sandwiches in the entire Chicagoland area. Cooked to perfection, sliced perfectly, and seasoned exceptionally well...a tad peppery but absolutely delicious. Edit: Tried the gyro today($10 by itself) The meat was juicy,the pita and tomatoes were fresh. The tzatziki could have been better,it tasted like plain Greek yogurt with no lemon,mint,or cucumbers and a tiny bit of dill. I will definitely eat it again for the juicy,well seasoned meat! This place has the best Italian beef that I haven't eaten in a while, a lot of places I ate there Italian beef is a little spicy and spicy doesn't do well at my age, Maxwells Beef is perfect, with a very delicious sweet pepper and I don't usually eat peppers cause it's soggy, not over here. Back in the day these places were a dime a dozen everywhere you look there were hot dog joints like this suburbs and da city. It's a windy city thing some people just don't get it Although they do up north of the cheddar curtain in Milwaukee because having lived up there for a couple of years in the late 90s Vienna Beef reigned. It's been a while since I hit it up but according to my pictures I have been here before. Cuz I see a big ole burger lol. I pulled it up and looked at the date 2019 prior to covid. That's probably why you got packets of ketchup and you don't got to squirt bottle with the little cups anymore? This is a classic little kind of beef joint what's nice you walk in it's a storefront on the corner it anchors the little plaza where there's a laundromat a double d and a whole lot more. Been there for quite a few years when you walk in though you know that's how small it is there's mirrors all over make it look bigger. There's no tables there's a classic counter with stools cuz when you're eating a beef you know it's going to be juicy and messy so you're going to be getting it all over so you want to be able to throw it down your gullet but let the two set the table chairs don't seem to do the trick all the time. A real Chicago joint would not have any stools just a counter about even with your neck old old school places you could still find have that nowhere to sit you just stand and eat at the end that's a Chicago thing LOL I hadn't wanted a beef but I got picked up my laundry and as usual Kevin got hungry belly said feed me so I thought you know I love deep fried Polish. That's another Chicago thing Polish sausage but you give a little slit into it shove it into the fryer deep fried a little bit oh my God my mouth is watering again hundreds of miles from Chicago as I type this. The way I prefer it though is basically catch up mustard seasoning salt and cucumbers They don't got the cucss over by here though guys only got pickles. And of course I ordered some fries one thing I like about here even though they have to compensate by jackin prices up a little bit they also give you a buttload of food The Polish was even bigger than one of my favorite places pops where I usually get it it was fantastic it fell off the bun it was so long. Trow in a bag of fries that could feed a family of four. And boy were they good they got Pepsi products too so I enjoyed some Diet Pepsi. It's a little bit of a haul for me to come out there but if I need laundry services I definitely will stop back in again for some Chow if I'm hungry. Food is decent. Unfriendly people work there and the place is dirty-filthy floor, broken counter seat. Needs a facelift and perhaps a smile from the owners. 2 stars for the beef. Oh and one other thing-it's extremely dangerous to have people sitting outside at tables right up against the parking spaces with no barrier. My fear is someone could mistake the gas for the brake and plow right into the people sitting there. Maybe move tables to the other side where there's no risk of that ‍ read more

The parking is ample. The outdoor seating is fair. When you walk in the restaurant it doesn't look as clean as you would expect. They only have short stools to sit at at a counter that goes around the front of the restaurant that either looks at a mirror or outside. A lot of the stools looked to be broken & the one I sat on rocked whenever I moved. There was no restroom when I asked to use it. It's a hot dog place, I ordered a hot dog & fries. The hot dog was $6.98, which in my opinion was a bit pricey compared to other hot dog restaurants that I've been to. The hot dog was a Vienna & the toppings were plentiful. The fries appeared to be fresh cut, but they had a very greasy taste to them. There was only 1 size for drinks even though they had on their sign 2 different sizes. The drinks are Pepsi products. One was marked as sweet tea, it most definitely was NOT sweet tea. The lemonade tasted watered down & when you went to fill the cup it sprayed everywhere. The attitude of the staff was cold & impersonal. I would not recommend this resturant because the price does not meet the quality that you would expect. I was there at about 2:30 in the afternoon & there was no one in there save for the staff. I've been here before & in the past it was much better than it is now. read more

This establishment could use a face lift. Actually the whole shopping center could use some love and care. But the food? Excellent. Well worth what we paid. And the service? Pretty good. Great beef, and probably the best sweet peppers of anyone around (HUGE, juicy, soft, but firm, and tasty). Fries, though, were the worst. Limp and dark brown and loaded with grease, it's hard to believe another reviewer praising them and calling 'em "crispy." Maybe an off-day? It amazes me that anyone would even serve fries like that though (they should SEE how bad they'd be). Totally would have ruined my meal had my son not come to the rescue with some leftover fries he had just picked up from Two Pints in Bolingbrook. Those were amazing! But back to Maxwell's, thumbs up for their Italian ice. Their "small" is like most place's large, and their prices are quite reasonable as well. Too bad their "small" fries (enough to feed 3 or 4) ended up in the trash though. One other thing, I was just reading through some older reviews, and came across a 1-star one that talked about how dirty the place was. That didn't bother me (either they've cleaned up some or the other reviewer is just more picky than me), but what made me laugh out loud was that that review mentioned a broken stool. I don't understand... With the Italian Beef, it is not in the au jus when you get there. They get the beef out of the fridge, already measured out for the sandwich, then they flash boil it right quick, then give it to ya. Weird. I will stay away from the beef sandwich.
