He was super patient, friendly, and walked me through all the options to make sure I was happy with my order. Big kudos to him! I went with the 3-piece chicken tender basket, which comes with two sides--I chose fries and the fried cornbread. Heads up: the drink isn't included, which I found out the hard way. My total came out to about $18 and some change. The chicken tenders? Solid. The fries? Also good. The cornbread... that's where things got weird. Had some time to kill and enjoyed this latest entry at the food court. The Original Sandwich prepared Nashville hot was a great entry. Chicken breast was substantial and overflowed the bun. Spice level was a medium. Slaw, sour pickles (not dill), and comeback sauce was a great complement. Bun was nice and soft and held it all together. I can to the food court to get work done while the kids were in camp. I had to try this spot, because of the smells coming from the kitchen. First, I love that they use chicken thigh by default. Though the thickness is smaller than a breast, the juicy thigh meat makes up for it. I tried the Budlong Original with the classic sauce and it has a nice kick that I would describe as medium-spicy. The 1 flame rating can be misleading If you're not a fan of spice. The slaw was flavorful and crisp, and the pickles were perfect. I got it with the fries and I love that everything was prepared after I ordered. I could tell, because I could see them working in the kitchen. I love that they are also the only venue in Oakbrook with a customer-facing soda fountain and they have the option for self-service digital ordering which was simple and intuitive. I enjoyed it so much that I got the Southern Style sandwich the next day. I like the pimento cheese spread and wish they added more. It was a very small amount that could barely be seen underneath the chicken. Overall, this has quickly become one of my top 3 chicken sandwiches. I hope one opens in my area soon! read more

I came 15 mins before they closed. I thought they closed later than 8 pm. It's located inside of the food court. The employees were friendly. Good customer service. Food tasted great. I don't know if it's because I came in super late but my chicken to bread ratio was perfect. I read other reviews that it was off. In my opinion, it was on par with Fry the Coop. I ordered the southern style with southern heat. Just the right amount of spicy to make it enjoyable. Chicken was very moist and aperitive. It had the perfect amount of crunch. Mac and cheese was not bland. It was very flavorsome with mild heat. Banana pudding I took off a star because I felt the ratio of shortbread cookie to pudding was off. In the pictures I have, I had way too much shortbread and not enough pudding. It still tasted good but the ratio needs to be rectified. read more

I just had to make my way into the newest location of The Budlong Southern Chicken since they have new ownership. It's in the District food court. It was a bit of a challenge finding it. I really enjoyed The Budlong Original with the Nashville Hot sauce. Mighty creamy Mac n cheese was great too. I got the opportunity to speak with a few members of the new corporation that took over operations. Another of their restaurants is next door, the Lucky Cat Poke Co. They're having a Grand Opening August 10th and The Budlong is getting a whole new menu and will be offering various breakfast items. Chicken Fried Steak and Biscuits and Gravy will be introduced over the next month. They also have plans of opening 100 locations across the US in the future. read more

I know I wanted to try this place. It was close. I placed the order online and I want to go pick it up at the designated pick up time. Please wasn't too busy. It was during the week late and night so I figured it would be a quick pick up. However, I got there at the time of my pick up and they were still working on my order. I think they actually started my order at that same time. but anyway, I waited 20 minutes and they got all my food together. I took it home and we ate the cornbread was so good.
