Stopped in on Fat Tuesday to take advantage of their Mardi Gras specials. They offer several Cajun-inspired dishes year-round, and for the holiday they expanded the lineup even more. They also feature an extensive craft beer selection. I went with the seasonal Abita Bad Mother Shucker Stout, which was a fun nod to Mardi Gras and a solid stout choice for the occasion. For my entrée, I ordered the Mardi Gras Platter ($32.99). It included: * Choice of soup (I chose the seafood chowder) * Shrimp Creole * Jambalaya * Chicken Étouffée * Crawfish & Shrimp Monica * Broccoli The restaurant was busy, which is understandable for Fat Tuesday, but our food took quite a while to arrive. The soup was delivered at the same time as the platter. In my opinion, the soup should have come out first. Ironically, the seafood chowder ended up being the highlight of the meal--rich, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, by the time I finished the soup and moved on to the platter, most of it was only room temperature. The items were layered and grouped together in a way that made it unclear what paired with what. The chicken was noticeably overcooked and lacked depth of flavor. It tasted as though Cajun seasoning had simply been sprinkled on top rather than developed into the dish. Overall, the platter lacked the bold, authentic Cajun flavor profile I was expecting. The Crawfish & Shrimp Monica was advertised as coming in a bowl but was served in what amounted to a cup-sized portion. The menu description listed Cajun Alfredo sauce, crawfish, crab, blackened shrimp, pasta, Parmesan cheese, and broccoli. After mixing in the Parmesan, I searched for the seafood components and found none--no visible crab, crawfish, or blackened shrimp in the pasta. I mentioned this to the bartender, who said they would bring some out to add in. A few minutes later, three Cajun shrimp were delivered. There was still no crab or crawfish. While the Alfredo sauce and pasta themselves were very good, the absence of the advertised proteins significantly hurt the dish. Had I ordered the Crawfish & Shrimp Monica on its own for $24.99 and received the same portion and lack of seafood, I would have been extremely disappointed. Overall, while the concept and menu sounded promising for Mardi Gras, the execution--especially at that price point--left a lot to be desired. read more

Bottom Line: Very decent value for the buck. Haven't been here in some time. This place has gone through a number of makeovers over the years but it is decidedly a sports bar vibe where you enter the space and traditional restaurant in the back area. Overall a very casual and lively vibe. We waited about 15 minutes with a packed house and were seated in the restaurant portion in a very spacious booth. Our server was prompt, courteous, pleasant, and efficient--attentive but not overly so. The food was excellent with very ample portions at reasonable pricing with many options under $20. I will say they could skip the bread basket before your meal comes out and just put it into giving you a side with the sandwiches versus charging you $2 for each side added. That being said the food came out promptly, was warm, and very satisfying. Hopefully Chuck's keeps value for customers' hard earned buck in mind and they will continue to do well. read more

Six of us had dinner on 4/14/26.. first they brought out HARD bread rolls that would break your teeth if you bit into them. We told the server and she brought out fresh rolls. I mentioned its as though you put some old rolls laying around in the microwave to heat them up.. she said we don't do that here.(baloney). Visited here with my husband this past Saturday and sat at the bar. We had excellent service, enjoyed the beer special and we both ordered the 2 meat sampler. Mine was brisket and wings with cajun green beans and cajun fries. Everything was delicious and the wings were huge. My husband got brisket and ribs with stuffing and baked beans. The bun was a little bit hard on my burger if you want sides like fries or something you have to pay extra that was weird but other than that, the fries were good. The burger was good atmosphere felt nice servers seemed like they knew what they were doing I would have no problem taking my family back there. The first time I had Chucks was Easter 2022. It wasn't dine in, I picked it up. This time around, my girlfriend and I ate in. We decided to sit out back in the patio. It was such a nice day. They have umbrellas over all the tables, and the patio is enclosed for privacy. Our waitress was extremely friendly. She was quick with our drink orders, and we put in our food order quickly too. I recommend the jalapeño cornbread muffins to start, delicious! I had a pulled pork sandwich with fries and macaroni as my sides. Please note that they limit you to 3 sides, but the food is filling! My girlfriend had a bacon cheeseburger with mashed potatoes. Everything was great. Highly recommend. Came in tonight for birthday dinner. Thought maybe crayfish being in season there might be crawdad specials. No such luck. The Cajun dishes were all shrimp and andouille and of course the catfish. But the walleye special looked good, and I thought something fresh and different would be a good choice, even if it wasn't really Cajun or southern. The restaurant is still done up for Mardi Gras. Especially the bar area. It's a big place and certainly caters to an active bar crowd. We started with the boudin balls. They were excellent. Dirty rice and beans packed tight with andouille and pulled pork, fried up with lots of Cajun seasoning, like the Cajun version of arancini. Next, I had the walleye dinner special. It was a lot of fish on a plate of fries with slaw and a jalapeño cheddar muffin. The walleye was the best I have ever had. The fish was tender and juicy inside the batter. And the beer batter on the fish and fries was delicious. Exceptional. Too much food to have room for dessert, so I boxed some of my dinnerdinner to make room. But the peach cobbler was a sore disappointment. It wander really bad, but quite obviously not peach at all. It has the appearance, flavor and texture of cinnamon applesauce cobbler. It was covered with 2 huge scoops of ice cream, and plenty for two of us to share. But sadly not at all what we ordered. We've gotten take out once and dined in twice. Chuck's is so so good. The menu is large and there's an interesting mix of options - BBQ, Mexican, and Cajun. We've tried a handful of dishes and our favorite by far is the chicken fried chicken. The breading is nicely seasoned and the chicken is moist. The side of mashed potatoes and green beans are perfect as well. We get the chicken fried chicken every time! We've also had the ribs, enchiladas, and etouffee. These dishes were all solid- nice flavors and cooked well- but none of these were particularly standout. The ribs we had could have been more tender, but the mild BBQ sauce was delicious. The chicken inside the enchiladas were moist, but the tortillas were a little thick. I don't really like mole sauce, but I enjoyed the sauce in the enchiladas. It wasn't super sweet or chocolate-ty. I would get the enchiladas again. The shrimp on the etouffee were delicious and large, but the chicken was dry. This past time we ended our meal with a pumpkin cheesecake and it was absolutely delicious! They have a great beer menu, which my husband loves. The service is always super friendly! And there's plenty of seating, so we never had to wait. We're definitely planning to come back frequently! read more

This review is specifically about the Thanksgiving buffet. First our staff was great, Sophie was our wait staff, but...I use a cane, it was just my husband and me. The buffet was set up in the west side of the restaurant, but that side is only for large parties so most people who have physical disabilities are on the east side of the restaurant-making it difficult to get food. It'd be nice if, in the future, they set up an area, closer to the food for those of us that are disabled. I'm able to walk without a cane inside, but I saw people trying to get food with a cane...and people using walkers and having to rely on family members, but also having to walk a distance to get food. Also, we were told they were out of peach cobbler, but 10 minutes later, other people came thru with it! If we had to wait, that was fine, but to be told they were out and then others had it? Bad form. The food was ok, although the turkey was dry. I was surprised how bland the food was, specially the pulled pork. Since we were in the same area as the bar, there was loud music and hard to converse. I understand this area is the sports bar, but on a holiday? Please tone it down. The TVs were fine, it's a sports bar, and they're silent. Again this is specifically the Thanksgiving buffet. read more

My husband and I eat at Chucks about once a month. We have always enjoyed the food (consistently Good!) and never a problem with service. Yesterday, 12/31/2025, we went with another couple to end the year on a good note with a good meal for a late lunch - early dinner, start 3pm. Sophia, our waitress took our drink orders, which took about 10 minutes to arrive. We had to ASK for bread at the table because it wasn't just brought per usual. Then she came back for our meal choices. We waited over 20minutes for that to arrive. NOTE: the bar area was busy, but the rest of the restaurant had the 9 booths with people, but at least half were earlier lunch and almost finished. Everyone's meal was fine except mine. I ordered off the Specials of the Day menu - the Cajun potato gnocchi w/ garlic bread. The gnocchi was not light and fluffy like I know potato gnocchi to be, but more on the very dense side. The Cajun cream sauce that was supposed to be on it was NOT Cajun anything, just plain white, heavy and a skin over it like it had been sitting for a bit. Unfortunately, I had to wait until Sophia came back to the table with the bill to let her know I was unhappy about my meal and why. We couldn't wave her down because we never saw her until we were finished. She came to the table 3 times - water, bread, meal order. Didn't see her again until time to hand us the bill. Never once came to check if any of us needed a refill on our drinks, wanted more bread or how the food was or even if we wanted dessert!. Extremely disappointing and very unprofessional for Chucks. They did take off one half the cost of my gnocchi but the whole meal did leave a bad taste in my mouth! I'm sorry to have to leave such a review. Our usual order consists of: 1) Burnt ends - This is a special item and is not always on the menu. Food is great! Service has also always been great. Personally we've had almost everything and haven't found anything bad. In the summer they have a garden they'll grow much of what they use. They are closed on Mondays though. So if you you like New Orlean's type of food check them out. read more

Let me start by saying I love the food here. I've been coming to chucks restaurants since before the fire in Burbank. Last night we sat at a high top across from the bar where you can see the tvs in Darien. The waitress got my order wrong multiple times and was very slow to check on drinks so I was done eating my main dish before she could come back and check on the sides. Also, Including our dessert, banana bread pudding, which is also great. And that's kinda the problem. We asked for the desserts to go. They were brought out for dine in. When the bus boy took them back, all he did was put them in to go containers. I could see the melted ice cream on the slices and asked that he make new ones as I knew they would be soggy by the time we got back to Frankfort. This complete confused him and after trying to explain the reason I just gave up as he was not getting it. Sure enough, melted ice cream and soggy bread pudding by the time I got home.
