I was…read moreimpressed by their references and had a week when I was out of town where they had full access to the apartment, which Mustafa Khaliqy assured me would be sufficient to do the work. The first day, they locked themselves out and had to destroy the doorknob to get back in. Three days in, the demolish was done but no work was done for the rest of the week. After I returned, I found the condo full of dust with no groundcloth laid down to contain it, and was forced to stay in a hotel a full three days additional. Inspecting the work, the countertops were misaligned to the wall and the standing shower was installed with a 6-inch concrete lift that forced me to raise the showerhead nearly to the ceiling. The kitchen tile wasn't even extended halfway under the sink! To his credit, Mustafa's team finished the tile and moved the showerhead. Still, the fit and finish were substandard. I discovered quickly that the shower grout was not sealed properly and several of the shower floor tiles came loose. Just a few years later, the condo below mine indicated that they have water leaking into their ceiling. The culprit is the drain pan installed in the shower; from the inspector: "The drain pan (Which is a basically a rubber liner) was not properly installed. The purpose of the the liner is to trap and water that seeps through the tile and divert it back in to the drain. In the access panel on the living room side you will be able to see that the rubber liner was cut and not glued properly at of the corners. This is causing the water to drip on the ceiling of the unit below. To repair this, the shower must be demolished completely and redone properly. Unfortunately, there is no way around this."

He could have just completed the job he was contracted for, but he explained that he found major water damage. He said he could not in good faith just install the door. Sharing this unfortunate information could have made me stop the project immediately and sharing this unfortunate information could have loss money for his company, but it's not solely about the money for Julio, it's more about integrity. His reputation of trying to always do what is right and do it well. So, he removed and replaced all of the rotted wood first. Julio told me not to worry, he would work with me, and he would make sure everything was completed accurately, efficiently and that I would be very pleased with the results. He was right. Messaged a few contractors here on Yelp for last minute projects we were looking to get done before…read morewe rented out our townhome, and Jose from Hernandez Contracting was the first to respond to my message. He was able to come by our place on the same day for an in-person quote and after deciding that we wanted to work with him, he was at our place ready to work the very next morning! He said he was able to come by to start work at 9am the next morning, but he was there not only on time but a bit earlier by around 8:30am! We had started off with 3 projects for him, which he quoted us for, but I ended up asking him if he could do more little projects, and he was able to take on anything we asked of him. He's awesome, he was even so respectful to take off his shoes when he worked inside our home. The projects he was able to complete for us was: 1) carpentry work in our garage (to secure some previous work done before we bought our townhouse, there were some unsecured wooden pillars barely holding up a wooden built-in storage shelf). Jose even told us how he would make it even more secure by adding more pillars where it would hold more weight on the shelf and be more secure; 2) filled up a hole in our wall, he was able to patch it up with drywall and matched the exact paint and by the time he was done and paint dried, you would never have known it was there! 3) he installed a new storm door for us, our previous storm door had a broken door handle, and Jose was able to install a brand new storm door that we had purchased, he even made sure that the storm door we bought was the correct measurement. 4) Jose installed new hardware on our kitchen cabinet doors, they were all aligned! He took the project off our hands. 5) upon request he was able to fix our closet door that wasn't aligned properly, so it didn't shut! When we bought the house it was like that, Jose fixed it! 6) he glued & aligned some wooden pieces coming off that were framing our attic crawl space. 7) he went above and beyond to find some new window screens that we couldn't locate locally, so he drove to another state to look for it the very same day! He wasn't able to locate it, so he ordered the correct sized window screens and installed them as soon as he could after it came in the mail! He was able to get most of the work done in just 2 days! Minus the window installation, which was done as soon as possible, once he special ordered it and after it arrived! His preferred payment method is through Zelle. Jose is an amazing handyman! He is punctual, very reliable, kept his word when he said he would come by and do our projects, and did great work in a timely manner. I would recommend him to family & friends, and we will definitely work with him again.
