We hired Brothers to remodel our basement and could not be more happy with their work - I wish we could give them more than 5 stars! We got several bids for the project, and Brothers not only gave us the lowest bid, but we also felt the most comfortable with them on a personal level. - as they struck us as very straight-forward, honest and trustworthy. Jim, Eric and their team not only did an incredible job executing our vision, but also brought their own expertise and insight into how to best transform a space. They really have a knack for both the craftsmanship aspect of remodeling as well as a good eye on how to utilize your floor plan. Our basement was half-finished with a mix of concrete, ratty carpet and wood paneled walls. They knocked down a wall, re-did the floors, added drywall, framed a storage room, built a bathroom, added canned lights, put in new windows and additional electrical outlets. What once looked like a rundown area of our townhouse now looks like an upscale hotel suite complete with the beautiful bathroom that they added. They completed all the work on time and on budget, and we couldn't imagine anyone doing a better job. Not having a lot of experience in the world of renovation/remodeling, it was such a relief to deal with honest, hard-working guys who treat you like family and don't try to hose you over. In addition to doing excellent work, they were all nice, respectful and easy to get along with - and we felt 100% comfortable with them going in and out of our place for the better part of a month. One more point I would like to mention is that during the remodel, we had an issue with our furnace. Four Seasons came out and quoted us around $1,000 to fix it. We told the brothers about it, and they said that sounded excessive. Jim and Eric took care of the parts and labor for $300 that same day, and it's been running perfectly since then. If we ever need any more work done to our place, Brothers would be our only choice, and I would happily recommend them to friends, family and anyone who's looking for great work on their house or condo at a fair and honest price. read more

Went looking for a recommendation for someone I could trust to put in recessed lighting in my home. I was referred to Eric & Jim. I received a quote in a timely fashion, they showed up when they said they would and finished ahead of schedule. They were there with no lapses in the work, thus no start/stopping to juggle multiple jobs. Most impressive was how they left each day with my home looking as it was when they started, organized and clean.... We are very happy with the addition to the house and are in the process of making a few changes with the layout of the rooms.. I'll post pictures once complete.. I could not be happier with the service I got from Eric and Jim. They gave me a speedy quote and an appointment the following day. I needed my hot water heater removed and replaced, and I was dreading it. My hot water heater was located in a really tight spot underneath my kitchen counter, and I knew it would be a complicated job that would involve removing my dishwasher. Before reaching out to Brothers, I had been told by 3 different contractors/plumbers that my custom concrete counter tops might need to be broken to get the job done. I even had contractors who refused to do the work and one that quoted me nearly triple what Brothers ended up charging me. These guys came into my condo and assured me there was no reason for my counter tops to be broken. They were professional and friendly guys. I will definitely be singing my praises to the rest of my building and reaching out to them for future projects like painting and electrical work. read more

These brothers came recommended by a friend who has a lot of apartment rentals. I am so grateful he did. I loved working with these two men and I keep trying to think of more projects for them to do. They do what they say they are going to do and very trustworthy. They cleaned up after themselves everyday, which made a difference of not having to live in construction dust. There were several little projects they did for us in one week's time as we are preparing our home for people to rent and we wanted to make it disaster proof. Backsplash tile in kitchen and bathroom. Brother's Home Improvement recently completed a "facelift" on my kitchen. We kept the appliances and layout the same, but we painted the cabinets, replaced the existing granite backsplash and countertops, and installed a new backsplash. From beginning to end, Brother's were fantastic. I primarily worked with Jim, although I was able to meet a lot of the Brother's team. Jim was amazing throughout the entire project. He provided an accurate, competitive quote. I've watched enough HGTV to be paranoid about the problems that can arise during a renovation project. Jim was really great with dealing with my concerns, and he kept the cost in line. He was able to get us scheduled quickly after we selected Brother's to complete the project. I have heard nightmare stories about contractors not showing up or delaying projects, but Brother's showed up ready to get started when they said they would. The best part is they showed up every day until the project was completed. There was no frustrating run-around with timing. Once the project was started, I had several additions. Jim was fantastic with handling this additional items and providing me with the additional cost information. We had our kitchen cabinets painted, and I was a little nervous that they might look kind of cheap. Chris was our painter, and he did incredible work. He spent a great deal of time preparing the cabinets, priming them and using a spray painter to apply multiple coats. I have had several people think that we purchased new cabinets. I am truly thrilled with the results. Jim installed a subway backsplash with a herringbone detail over our range. There is a lot of backsplash, and he did an outstanding job. I am completely in love with the end results. I will absolutely be calling Brother's for any future home projects! I highly recommend them for any job! read more

If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. In short, I would say just hire Brothers (Eric and Jim), and you will not regret it! I hired Brothers based on the recommendation of my realtor, who helped me buy a new 2BR/2BA condo. I am keeping the 1 BR/1 BA condo I moved out of as a rental. Therefore, I need a significant amount of work done in BOTH condos. Complete painting, drywall repair, plumbing, electrical, etc... Their prices were competitive and fair, and their work was outstanding. Absolutely high quality. When I requested that Eric and Jim get the work done in my new apartment faster than originally planned so I could speed up my move in date, they were happy to accommodate. They did this even though it meant working nights for to get the painting completed. Greatly appreciated! Eric and Jim take great care in the work they do, even down to cleaning up after themselves, as if it were their own place (not the case with many contractors). I can't recommend Brothers Home Improvement, Eric and Jim, highly enough. I will use them for any future projects. read more

Today I was walking my two dogs and walked past a house that Brothers was working at in my neighborhood. I ALWAYS clean-up after my dogs (I have doggie bag holders on both leashes) and the owners of the house know that because I have been walking my dogs in this neighborhood for 20 years. I will admit I was looking at a text from my sister who is dying from brain cancer and didn't notice my dog do her duty in their yard. The construction worker yelled from across the yard at me "Don't you pick-up after your dog?" He scared my dog and she pulled so hard, she got out of her harass and was in the street. I yelled back and did use some foul language because he upset me so much. He could have said "ma'am/miss maybe you didn't notice, but your dog went in my client's yard." He was rude and clearly has no respect for other people. My husband who has been a contractor for 30 years would not have yelled at someone like he did. He would have been polite or he would have just picked it up himself. While my review does not speak of his skills, it does of his character. I wish I could say better about these guys... I called Eric for a quote on some work in my building ie: kitchen cabinets installed in a couple of apartments and a shower. He scheduled a date and time for him to come out. I notified my tenants and about 1 and 1/2 before the appointment Eric texted that he was unable to make the appointment! Much against my better judgement I rescheduled with him at which time he notified me that he'd be out of town but his " brother " would come in his place. Again, I notified my tenants that I'd be inside their unit and wouldn't you know....no " brother" , not even a courtesy call to let me know what happened. A complete " NO SHOW "! I'm not sure how these guys operate, but it's definitely not professional! I'll take my business elsewhere...I'd recommend you do as well. read more

Eric and Jim spent nearly a month renovating our bathroom and kitchen, and doing lighting, painting and appliance installation. They were also quick to respond, absolutely meticulous and very affordable. Very patient as this was our first home remodel. They have a very modern aesthetic and are pretty cool to work with as well. Very accommodating and sweet. They have now become our go-to guys for all repairs and improvements to our home. It's just the two of them so you do sometimes have to wait to get on their books, but it's worth it, I promise. read more

The brothers fixed a crack between the tub and the tile that was causing water damage at the adjacent dry wall. The dry wall looks great, however, the grout/caulk has huge cracks in two spots... which over time could lead to the same water damage we were experiencing in the first place. There was grout between the tub and the tile originally, then the brothers used a caulk that I had here at the house with sand in it so that it has a texture and appearance of grout. I wrote to the brothers explaining the cracked caulk problem, and I included two clear pictures of the problem. A week passed with zero response. A few more days passed and I wrote back again. Another week passed and I got a response - a response that did not include any implications of them coming to fix their work. Jim said that the problem would be because when we get in and out of the tub it causes movement and thus the grout cracked and that it would need to be removed and replaced with caulk. Ahh, except it's the sanded caulk I had here at the house that they added. And that originally there was grout there for years and it had not cracked in all the same places that the new caulk did. Whatever the case, they did not respond to my email that clearly documented a problem with their work. When I pushed with a follow up email they responded after a week - without any suggestion of them coming to fix it! So, they are clearly content to ignore and leave shoddy work around the city. Obviously at this point I see the type of concern and accountability they have and will not have them fix their own work, I'll have to find another reputable company do this. read more

Oh man Eric helped us out so much he explained why our apartment was cracking and gave us a low cost solution! We looked around and asked others and no one was able to explain it the way he did. I called these guys because my shower was leaking into the condo below mine, so the water needed to be shut off until the repair was completed. As I am by myself and I only have a one bedroom/one bathroom, I needed to shower in my gym every day. What an inconvenience! Eric came out to look at the job right away... I told him I needed everything as soon as possible because I couldn't shower, and he said he would have the estimate to me the next day. Two days later I followed up with an email, then a phone call... No response or call back. I followed back up again after five days and was still completely ignored. If they didn't want the job, I understand, or if they had something bigger and more worthwhile, that's fine. But I was in a tough spot, Eric knew it, and he didn't even have the courtesy to return a call or an email to tell me to find someone else. First, let me say I would have given them five stars easily except for the fact that they didn't accept credit cards at the time they redid my bathroom and because this review would have probably gotten flagged. These guys are great! I needed my bathroom repaired because of a catastrophic flood from a burst pipe. They were quick to respond....stopped the leak and within a day had an estimate for what would need to be repaired including the shoddy plumbing from the previous guys. I gave them my top line that I was able to afford and they worked with me and set up reasonable payment terms. My bathroom went from looking like an old CTA el station to a warm and cozy place to enjoy a hot shower or a relaxing bath. My bathroom looks great! I will definitely hire them for my next home improvement project. By the way, I run my business from my home and the brothers were so considerate, that their being there did not interfere with my ability to run my business. Also, every evening when they left, they made sure I had a functioning bathroom. ( I only have the one). read more

CONSUMER ADVICE: If you are in the market for any home improvement projects, Definitely DO NOT HIRE Brothers Home Improvement. I hired them to change the hardwood floors of my entrance area and to paint one of the bathrooms of my apartment. I was planning to do it myself, but I thought they are highly recommended and it was about time to have something done "professionally." At first as usual, they called me back right a way. They provided me with a detail estimated and assured me that if I'm not happy they will repair at no cost. Once there were done, I called them to let them know I found four gaps on the floor and the wall that I wanted to fix, it was just painted. They blamed the humidity system in my apartment and building and Eric told me to talk to the building manager. Building manager said that was the first time she has ever heard in the history of the building, so she sent the building engineer to my apartment to assess their work. Building engineer said, "Sorry. This is such a lousy job. They didn't install the floating floor correctly and then he asked me, if it was their first time installing floors? You need to get them back here to correct it. It's bad." After several calls throughout several weeks and months. I had not one call back. NOTHING. Brothers Home Improvement do not even deserve a star. They deserve to get out of the home improvement business or go jail. I'm submitting a claim to BBB, with the hope they step up and do the right thing. No decent business gets lost cowardly. read more

Big fan of these guys. Always seem to be able to do/fix anything and always at a reasonable cost. I've had them install kitchen cabinets, replace water heaters and repair concrete steps. I called the brothers to come out to my rental property and repair damage left by the previous tenant. They came out, listened to all of the repairs I needed, and then followed up with an emailed quote for me to review. When I set up the time for them to come they actually finished their first job a little sooner than expected and offered to get an early start. SInce I live in the city they offered to drive by my house and pick up the keys for the condo which saved me a trip out to the suburbs! When I drove out after the work had been completely I was amazed and how great everything looked. They had patched the walls and repainted them to look brand new. My biggest concern was the deep gouges the previous tenant left in the dark hard wood floors. The brothers isolated the spot and sanded it down so they could stain it to match the rest of the flooring. When they were done I couldn't even tell where the damage had been! I was 100% impressed with their professionalism and skills and have recommended them to numerous people already. read more

Eric and Jim can do anything, they are very knowledgable, and they have been instantly available in several emergency situations with our condo concerning water and pipes! They have repaired a toilet that overflowed and then replaced and repaired the damaged walls and baseboards. Eric also repaired a leak around my window and they have caulked, patched, and painted all the showers, walls, and trim. Over the years they have replaced a water heater and a broken glass panel in my shower. Now that we are selling, they have helped us repair, renovate, and improve our condo to make it ready for buyers. I have known the brothers several years and they have ALWAYS been honest, totally reliable, and reasonably priced. I trust them both and when I come home I always know it will be neat and clean after they have finished their projects. They are my very first call and they take the time to explain everything.
