Undergoing any renovation is stressful but working with George was a really good experience. His finished work product was always perfect and his attention to details and doing things right was impressive. Communication back and forth was fine. One of the best things in working with George was his design ideas; he has really good ideas and his sense of design was pretty impeccable. There was never any pressure to follow his suggestions (which we always welcomed and appreciated) and if we didn't go that way, he was totally cool about it saying many times that his only goal was to make us happy. His pricing was competitive and in combination with the foregoing, Transylvania Construction offers an excellent value. I hear from friends and family about their frankly bad experiences with their contractors, the most frequent being lack of communication and unexplained delays and no shows. I worked with George from Imperial on handling a number of needed repairs in my 2 flat building. They repaired plaster ceiling which had been damaged due to a leaking roof, various hairline cracks in the ceiling and dry wall, re-painted everything, and also replacing of a cracked kitchen tile. George was very responsive, professional, and was flexible in working around tenant's availability and concerns. Their work was very impressive! Imperial building group was recommended to us by a friend a couple years ago. Figured they were reputable so we gave them a chance. They repaired our leaky shower pan, redid the tiling, took off/reinstalled cabinets, and patched drywall. The price seemed ok and we were satisfied... until now. The shower pan is leaking again, just 2 years after the job was completed. We called George back numerous times and left a message, but no answer. Called the office multiple times and the lady said george will call us back, but nothing. Finally george came to the house to see the job, but didn't even go in the house. He came, said I remember this house, and left. After that, no call back to schedule a day to do the job VERY DISAPPOINTED! read more

Our roof leaked and had damaged a pretty big area of drywall in a highly visible area in our living room. There's a ton of sunlight on the wall and I was scared the damage would always be visible. Thanks to a friend, we called Imperial Building and George had his team come out to repair the damage. We left the house while they did the work and when we came home 6 hours later the area was absolutely perfect. We figured there would be dust everywhere, but the area was very clean...no dust anywhere. They also painted the whole wall and did a great job!! I called the company and the owner George came out and helped by performing a line by line quote. For those out there that do not know what that means. It is a price for every little thing you may want to do. Like paint the walls in the kitchen -- 700.00. This is awesome because you and pick and choose the items that you want to do and what you can afford. We were on a tight budget like everyone else in the world... But the prices were so good that we were affraid we would not get a great deal like this again so we took out a loan to get all of the things done. So we were told the project would be completed in 4 weeks. The project was comnpleted in 3 weeks and he found ways to save us money. YES really!!! So honest and wanted to save us money???? Although I see the good reviews I was one of those happy customers in 2013 and 2014 and then the crap started to happen. Although I appreciated the extra work to put all in order after my husband died there still are problems and I gave up on calling George as no return calls. I get upset when people don't respond but when you pay for service and work it's not unreasonable to expect answers. In addition what I paid for work I generously tipped each of the workers. Heating under porch floor never worked correctly. Waste of dollars. **Leaks not ever fixed in porch. In the process of finding contractor (not Transylvania) to gut and rebuild basement, office and laundry room. All is stored in porch. Now with bad snow severe leakage never fixed I have a real mess. Cabinet quality an issue, wiring although functional left with exposed wiring all in the laundry room area many non functional. Will cost extra dollars to fix with remodel. I questioned certification for electricity and plumbing and no straight answers. My husband was sick at the time and we believed what was told to us and now finding faulty work. It was apparent as the business grew so did the quality and attentiveness. I also question legitimacy as now I know I should have gotten permits. I know this from village inspector. Minor things- crew doesn't bother to measure when putting on hardware which I have discovered on pretty much all cabinets hardware uneven. Door installation never right with mudroom storm door and handles not put on correctly on inside door handle loosely put in. I know it's probably too late for the review but when I am dealing with damaged goods from a leak presumably fixed I am upset. Overall the job was done and all looks good and my husband while processing with his illness was able to enjoy. I would have loved to have George and crew do basement remodel but based upon all that has surfaced from work before sorry to say that won't happen. read more

George and company needed constant supervision when George wasn't around. George would tell his crew what was needed but forgot to mention that the lights should be in a straight line. The LumberLiquidators floor they installed seemed to be good when first installed but after a year,I have more squeaks now than ever before. I was told that hardwood floors were going to eliminate squeaks. It is my belief that George didn't install it properly. Getting back to the kitchen install, I had the ceiling installed and it developed a crack, he came back and fixed it after numerous calls. Now it is a nail that is coming out of the ceiling. I contacted him and his office only to be put off and now not even answering the phone. I would not recommend George and his Transylvania Construction Company for any major work. George is an excellent contractor, as are the tradesmen who work with him on projects. We hired Transylvania to install 12 recessed ceiling lights in multiple rooms, install hanging light fixtures in others, install the necessary electrical infrastructure, paint/repair the drywall afterward, and do some additional drywall work. They did a terrific job, at a competitive price, and were able to complete the work within the window needed to coordinate with other contractors and our move-in. George is a good communicator and personable. Best of all, he was patient with me as I went several rounds with him to help me pick out the perfect recessed lights, and he put a lot of thought into planning their exact placement. George is a complete rockstar. He turned around an improvement project for my retail storefront in 2.5 days (we couldn't stay closed for any longer). He refinished our floors, painted, installed new lighting fixtures, repaired outlets, the list goes on and on! Although there were a lot of people working together to bring my project in on time, George was always my point of contact. He replied to all my calls, texts and emails quickly and always had a great attitude and his answer was always "yes! We can do that, we will take care of it, no problem!" Even from the outset of the project, his good attitude and helpful demeanor set him above the other contractors I consulted with who were more likely to use scare tactics, or the fact that I'm a woman to talk me into more expensive materials or plans than we really needed. Great experience with Transylvania Construction! From the start, the front staff was well organized and kept in good communication. We had our cherry floors refinished, third bedroom fixed to change built-ins to a closet, French doors changed to a single door, painted unit, and misc handy work. The prices are competitive, the crew finished 1 day early, and George was wonderful to work with. He was very warm, trustworthy and knowledgable. In all, I can't ask for more in a general contractor. Staff may have changed: 2013 Untrustworthy, did not supervise any work, issues had to be resolved later (some by this company which were appreciated and expected); by licensed contractors who knew what they were doing (both electric & plumbing) slow, poor work performance by workers, damaged several cabinets and bath area while working sloppily.
