My wife recently spent 25 days at Broward health with a very rare neurological issue that paralyzed her from the waist down. During our stay there, the entire staff at the hospital was absolutely amazing. They were so kind and caring. One Doctor in particular that truly made an impact was our internal medicine doctor, Dr. Hajirawala! She had a way of explaining things to us and that put us at ease despite the difficult situation. She truly has a gift to care for patients and you can tell she truly loves what she does. Her bedside manner and professionalism was absolutely one of a kind! I wish more doctors were like Dr. Hajirawala! North Broward Health is very lucky to have a doctor like her on their team! read more

I am still traumatized over what happened to my Mom in this facility & Vitas hospice on the 3rd floor. I have nightmares about my Mom, my most precious person & how I couldn't protect her from the things that happened to her here. My Mom fell at home and: 1. Hospital did Not give Mom anxiety meds which I specifially told them she was a Memory Care patient and needs meds at 9am, 2pm, 9pm. or somewhere close to those hours. I kept asking why she was constantly anxious, trying to tear her tubing out and crying and moaning for hours at a time for WEEKS. I finally figured out they were piling ALL her afternoon meds with her night time meds together so she was sleeping great through the night (I guess so Night shift didn't have to do extra work) Mom clawed two new wounds on her hand and her leg during this time because of their neglect in giving her her afternoon anxiety meds. 2. The Case Workers discharged Mom to an inapproproiate facility for her needs (she needed Memory care) and the facility they sent her to was NOT for memory care pts. They also didn't fax over her Meds list so Mom was trying to hop out of bed and create more wounds while I was in the hallway trying to get a hold of someone at Broward to send over her Meds List and my little sister was by her side trying to keep her from tearing off dressings and hopping out of bed. After 3 hours of this mess I took Mom back to hospital by ambulance. It wa 18 hours in the ER and Mom had to get all the same tubes put in that she just had taken out hours ago! She was so traumatized that she fought off 2 women trying to put in IV's in her arms. They called in a surgeon to put an IV into her neck and Mom told the surgeon this was bullshi_ and she screamed at him. This wa so traumatizing for me to watch my Mom in fear and being traumatized all over again, and Unnecessarily. It was 36 hours for me being in the same clothes and I almost couldnt' drive myself home. 3. I ended up sending Mom to the Vitas 3rd floor of the hospital where they gave her the wrong medication once and almost a second time (I was there the second time and caught it) I had told the Dr in person on the phone and also documented it in Mom's MyChart that she wanted Dilautid, not morphine. But I guess they don't read here and gave her morphine anyhow, I think they give it to everyone by default. Morphine mummifies you from the inside out and the first time I caught it was after work and I asked What happened to Mom? She looked like she had a stroke? I asked what meds they gave her and made them pull it up and sure enough, they gave her the wrong meds. 4. There is only one case manager on the Vitas 3rd floor-her name is Florence Davidson and she is a complete MONSTER. She actually came in one day and told Mom that she owned a lot of money, was in big trouble and attorneys were coming after her. What kind of monster says this to someone in hospice? Florence plays word games and tried to kick all the hospice patients out of there before Thanksgiving so they don't have to pay employees overtime. And she was successful at this and cleared out the whole wing... except for Mom and another man, because I didn't buy her BS. She told me "We need the rooms for other patients and your Mom doesn't DESERVE to be in here...." What? There was at least 7 open beds on the wing as I was there for 3-9 hours every single day. Florence just lies to get people to leave. When they don't leave, they force your loved one into an ambulance to a disgusting facility that I didn't have any knowledge about or give permission-transferred my Mom without my permission. Can you imagine how I felt when my Mom, my most precious person who now has a 4 inch hole in her sacrum was transferred without my permission? I blew a gasket on the phone when they called to inform me that Mom was in an ambulance - I demanded to know where she was right then and there and I got a response "probably on the interstate somewhere". I hauled A over to Broward and before I could even open my mouth they called SECURITY, on me. Florence has obviously done this many times to patients and to add insult to injury after she commits these inhumane acts on patients she has the gall and the nerve to call Security on me?? I hope there is a special place in hell for Florence and the same goes for the nurses who repeatedly did Not give my Mom her anxiety meds in the afternoon. Mom was dying and Boward had a choice to make this easy or hard for her - you made this Traumatic and anxiety-filled for both Mom and me. The one bright spot is Genny/Genivieve on the 3rd floor hospice unit - if everyone had the same attitude and work ethic that Genny has Moms and my experience would have turned out much differently. Mom died 3 months ago and I still have nightmares and cry about what happened to her at this hospital/hospice. I was okay with Mom dying - I was NOT okay with her suffering so Unnecessarily and so repeatedly. read more

First of all, this review is not for the doctors, but the scheduling staff. We have been trying to schedule a needed procedure for over two months with this place. Our experience has been a series of the staff saying, "we'll call you back," us waiting, calling again, same story "we'll call you back." And they never do. We received insurance approval for the needed procedure, the staff never calls to schedule, let alone communicate to us that the insurance did approve (they said they would numerous times). Was told by the first scheduler, it didn't matter which location the procedure was done at. Then another staff member telling us, insurance needs to approve the location where it's done. Nobody seems to know what's going on. I tell them patient's name and within minutes, they repeat a different patient's name to me, leaving me all confused. Then telling me the procedure was never ordered by doc, when we literally MET with the doc and him telling us he was ordering it, not to mention we actually have TWO approval letters from insurance. The staff tells me the approval letters are not for the procedure, although the letter from insurance reads the procedure "WORD FOR WORD." The staff has said numerous times, we'll call you back to schedule. THEY NEVER DO. All I get is, "sorry." I asked why they didn't call us to tell us the procedure was approved. They told me it wasn't, although I had letter in hand.... then they put me on hold, and say, "oh sorry." it doesn't make sense. I feel like we are going in circles. It should not be this difficult to schedule a procedure. Don't hold your breath for these people. I'm so close to finding a whole new healthcare facility. Although we liked the doctor very much, the staff is poorly trained and incompetent. They have zero urgency, zero customer service skills. Zero communication skills. They just simply do not care about patients. I have only lived in the area a few years and have never received this low quality service from scheduling staff. We are truly disappointed. Appointments with the doc are great but good luck getting on the schedule for any type of procedure. They do not make you feel great about being a patient or needing their services. This review is specifically in regards to the trauma ICU and the Neurosurgeon Dr. Foltz. They are both fantastic and kind and saved my mother's life. Dr. Foltz was kind, helpful, skilled and funny. Kind of weird, but in a good way. My mom recently spent two weeks in the ICU after a traumatic brain injury. It was terrifying and scary and there were some ups and downs. But the nursing team in the trauma ICU made it distinctly easier. Danielle especially handled my mother's care with an uncommon amount of empathy and skill. She and Natalie were my mom's nurses on the scariest days of the whole ordeal. Knowing that my mother was in kind and loving and capable hands made it possible for my Dad and I to go home for an hour or two and not worry the entire time. Natalie answered my 100+ questions and even managed to make us laugh a few times. Nicole, Yumi and Steve were all also exceedingly kind and helpful. Steve cleaned and changed my mom and her bedding four times in one shift and still managed to have a smile on his face. When Yumi saw that my mom was awake and feeling better you would have thought it was her own mother. Nursing is clearly a higher calling and this team is full of angels on Earth. Whatever they get paid, if I could double it I would and that still wouldn't be enough. I know I'm missing at least one person's name, but I can't remember it. And we were there for so long. I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple others. But if anybody from the Trauma ICU at Broward North is reading this, I love you and thank you. read more

I was recently a patient at Broward Health Norrh. I was on the 6th floor with Mrs. Caroline, Jill and Ray. Best nurses I've ever had. Super clean at all times and very upbeat and smiley. Made my time there way better. Also every shift change the nurses came and told me and said goodbye to me. And every day and charge nurses would come in and ask how I was doing and being treated. ER physician assistant Joseph Richards refused to re-evaluate my freshly fractured wrist after I was told to go there by Broward Health Nurse Connect. This negligent, lying failed doctor wanna be repeatedly told me to "google local orthopedists for their prices to find one you can afford," "even if your hand is displaced again, I won't touch it," & "you can't get referred into the outpatient ortho clinic through the ER, that's not how it works." Negligent liar! Then, he fabricated my medical records, saying I REFUSED THE TREATMENT HE OFFERED! This negligent, incompetent, liar should NOT BE ALLOWED TO TREAT ANYONE WITHOUT DIRECT SUPERVISION. I filed a complaint with the state which is being investigated at this time. The negligent liar Joseph Richards works for Envision Physician Services, obviously a second rate business to have such a negligent liar working for them. Physician assistant Joseph Richards. I was admitted to hospital. Misdiagnosed twice failed surgery and was lied to about progress horrible care and bedside manner. Luckily left this hospital and went to Holy Cross immediately got correct diagnosis and rushed into emergency surgery. Had I not left Broward I would've died. read more

I was a patient of one of the orthopedic surgeons last week. My knee replacement was one of about five he did in one day. Even though the OR was a bit backed up, the level of care did not falter. From the nurses in pre-op to those in recovery, their attitude and attention to detail never failed. When I was delivered to my room, the nurses there, David R, Krystal, Suzie, Hector, and P/T professionals Orlando and Carli, were top-notch. I never had to wait for help. They were proactive in providing me with the information I needed to accelerate my recovery. And always with a smile and sometimes a joke! Additionally, the meals were decent for hospital food! read more

This hospital missed that my had internal bleeding and was becoming septic. She was sent to rehab only 5 days of being admitted via ambulance. She complained of f pain and had other issues that were ignored. She was also an insulin based diabetic. When I was told she was being moved the a rehab with only a statin prescription I questioned why my mother was not getting her insulin. I was told that her diabetes were no longer detectable. I didn't know at that time that in itself is sign of something very wrong within the body. She was also moved to the rehab with an WBC. I was told that if it didn't go down it was up to me to direct the rehab to get a hematologist. My mother was in a lot of pain and one of the nurses complained to me that she wants pain medication too soon. My mother was becoming septic and was in a lot of pain yet she was moved to a rehab connected with the hospital that was just as bad. Within 4 days of being at the rehab my mother's WBC was critically high and she passed. The care she got at both places was horrible. A doctor would not call me back when I asked to speak with them. I was given misinformation when my mother was first admitted and they missed important pieces to her health care. The reputation of this hospital is awful and now I know why. read more

I cannot say enough to express how wonderful and thankful for my Inpatient Rehab Team (4th floor). Nurses and PCAs, I must say they know their work and they took time out to listen to me and are very patient. Thanks to the PT and OT therapy workers, they were by my side after I had spinal surgery. They worked with me hours after hours and were concerned enough to ensure I did not give up and pressed my way out to every session. They only use positive reinforcement to keep me making gainful improvement one day at a time. PT / OT and the staff are also very respectful and took time out to stop and see how much progress I was making. Thanks to my Charge Nurse, Beatrice for my private room 415. Keisha, the RN Manager thanks for taking the time out to make sure everything was up to par, thanks to Dr Innocent and his Team. Thanks to Donna and Christine, the Case Management; also the nurses and the PCAs on the 4th floor. Including the cleaning of the room service and kitchen staff thanks everyone especially thanks to my PT and OT therapy. Doug, Sean, Darwin, Marlon, Jennette, the Twins, Mark Paul, Rayshod, Marie, Ashley, Laura, and Carlyn. I must say I really appreciate Broward Health Inpatient Rehabilitation. Every person has one goal and that is also the therapist are big cheerleaders they work hard to make their sessions productive and satisfying for me never heard them say you can't do it it's not a phrase you hear give your best effort and make sure that you are better as you leave then you were when you arrive . And also I must say the third floor I give all the staff 10 Stars - excellent workers! I cannot remember each and every name but thanks too Hector and Jeff as well. I have heard nothing but bad things about this hospital, and I recently had to have surgery here so of course I was a little nervous. It was an early morning surgery, so I had to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM, the staff in the outpatient area were super nice and got me checked in fairly quickly. Once I got to the back, the nurses that were there to prep me were also very nice. When I got to the OR, the staff was friendly and made sure that I was OK at all times. The anesthesiologist to the nurses to the recovery area, I have absolutely no complaints. The facility itself was very clean and easy to get around. I did not use the emergency room and I did not have to stay overnight, so I cannot give a review on that, but the outpatient portion of it was amazing and I would go there again. read more

Gastro issues required a 3 night stay. Attending, residents, nursing and general staff members are accommodating and caring. Food service dept is horrific! They don't pay attention to dietary needs or orders given to them by Dr. They don't even respond to phone messages left by nursing staff. Three and a half hours and counting in the waiting room, just waiting to see a doctor. First time here and unless I get shot I doubt I'd come back. As I sit here among all the sick people coughing and sneezing I am thinking that there's got to be a better way. Is this place always this slooow? Finally I was admitted and once inside the care was excellent. Several very wonderful PAs and nurses attended to me and got me in and out on under an hour and that included test results. I guess emergency room crowds are common these days but being extremely healthy I don't have a lot of experience in emergency rooms. Since you generally can't choose the time and day you need emergency medical care, we just have to deal with the situation as it is but if you can time it, I would suspect early morning is best. My step dad is in the hospital . They are understaffed . Supposed to have a doctor every day one never showed up today . He had diarrhea 3 times today . It took forever to get someone I. There to clean him up. The third time we did it ourselves . No one came !!! Tried to get him Pepto-Bismol all day long finally late afternoon the doctor that never came approved it. Not very happy with the care . The one good thing is the nurses are nice . If I had to go to hospital it would not be there . Sad to say he never left the hospital . Got moved to hospice they put him On a morphine drip he died that night . If he would have gotten proper care when he went in he would most likely be here today . read more

Worst ER Experience I've ever had. Nurses/doctors refused to take blood or urine samples for analysis despite informing them about my thyroid issues. Currently in mental health rehab and when the nurses found out they verbally informed the other nurses that I'm "from one of those facilities" and proceeded to treat me like a drug addict when that is not my situation. This is the second time this facility has performed subpar levels of care. I will not be back.... read more

I went in with a ton of pain and was put in a room fairly quickly but my companion kept having to go find someone to talk to instead of having them come check on me. There were a few traumas that too president of course but I ended up being there far longer than needed. very clean and comfortable place though for a hospital. read more

I had to visit the ER at Broward Health N. today after an injury while on vacation in Deerfield Beach. This was the best hospital and ER experience I have had. From the reception staff, to nurses, x-ray team and the Doctor, I was just in awe of the level of kindness and care I received. I absolutely try to stay out of ER & hospital situations (most do), but I would not be afraid to visit this hospital again if needed because it was so obvious the whole team cared and enjoyed their jobs. Epic fail Broward health north. Family member first in intensive care and then very quickly moved to hospice. Obviously a sad, scary and emotional experience. The experience while entering the hospital and checking in for visits each day was really disappointing. The security staff was very unkind and even rude at times. The hospice care was very "assembly line". I understand the staff does this for a living (god bless them because I wouldn't be strong enough to do so) but adding some overall empathy to the process could greatly reduce the pain that those who are watching this happen are feeling. The pain is already strong enough without poor employee interactions. I reached out to hospital leadership directly both security and operations via email initially and then 1 follow up to provide detailed feedback and never got a response from anyone. I waited to post this review in hopes the hospital would reach out for detailed input but alas, no such outreach. Unfortunately when you are in a state of needing emergency care, you often don't choose where you go, but in hopes that the right person will see this, and handle it I am posting anyway. You will see most of my reviews are 5-stars. I feel your energy has a strong correlation to your human experiences but in a case like the sudden, painful and hasty exit of a loved one should be handled with extra empathy from those you are counting on. We arrived at the hospital as soon as their Outpatient area opened at 5 a.m. The receptionist quickly found my name and got a nurse to come get us. We were taken to pre-op and that's where the MAGIC started! I've had surgeries before but boy has the process changed! I was given heated body towelettes to use all over (this was after taking a shower with half a bottle of special soap for each shower the night before and that morning!). They gave me heated socks and a gown. They had me brush by teeth and gums using a solution and then used another solution in each nostril! I remember being wheeled into the operating room and vaguely recall seeing my husband (he was given a code to track on their tv monitors to know the status of my surgery but while in the O/R after the surgery I said I wanted to know if my husband was ok and they got him!) A few years ago, he brought a loved one to the hospital and she died, so I was concerned for him. He talked with me for a few minutes and then they finished prepping me to go to Recovery. My husband followed us there and then to my room. I stayed in the hospital overnight - each and every nurse and hospital staff member was really friendly, professional and caring. For example, someone from food services came around to each patient to take their lunch order. There were like 5 options but none of them were my kind of food. I told the food services person that I didn't want to eat mayo based salads, etc. She asked what I would eat - and I said "I'll tell you what I'd eat - a salad without dressing, steamed veggies and just turkey on a plate", - not with dressings, etc. that they were offering. What shocked me was she brought me each thing I mentioned, exactly as I said it! At a hospital - that's some service! We met student nurses and social workers, P/T and O/T reps, etc. And every person was respectful of one another, the patients and their families. It was striking to see how they engaged one another. There were no snide or rude comments from anyone. No one was short of patience or made me wait for meds. I truly cannot think of one thing they could have done better - from the over-the-top body prep for surgery to the constant flow of nurses and caregivers, to the housekeeping person who tidied my room (I had my own) literally perfectly - it was a truly WONDERFUL experience. I'm enjoying improved health and am amazed at the medical breakthroughs that enabled me to have surgery and return home the following day! I would ABSOLUTELY return to this hospital - we made fast friends with many people there and it would be my joy to be taken care of by these talented, caring people. read more

There is a HERO at North Broward Hospital and her name is Kathy Gardner she is in the Mammogram department and the Supervisor , she is so kind and thoughtful, she makes you feel at ease. The department she runs is filled with love and a feeling of calmness and peace. She went above and beyond for me when this is a very scary time when you dont know the outcome of your Mammogram, my son passed away recently and she was so kind to me, I have been here at Broward Health 37 years and I will tell you she is a HERO in that department. Again I just want to thank you Kathy Gardner for all you do. She makes the world a better place. read more

But ....if not treated a horrendous way to die. They never told us they had no Dermatologists .... and fought me when I begged he be transfered to a hospital that had a Dermetological department. He died after being put through numerous un-needed tests by every kind of doctor but a Dermatologist.... horribly suffering for over three weeks .... before dying in agony. This is a hard one to review. No one wants to go to a hospital to party, or I hope not. You go there for health concerns of your own or your loved ones. Your experiences are based on how certain health care professionals take care of you, the environment, and other factors. This hospital seems like it has highly professional and competent employees. My father in law was being treated here and had to wait a while when he decided to go to ER since he wasn't feeling good. After the long wait, however, while there he was taken well care of. The doctors who treated him and also the nurses communicated very well with us. Before the surgery we knew what the risks were as well as the post surgery recovery period was well described to us. And now basing the hospital on our own experience, I think some nurses might be cranky from working so many hours but at the same time I think a few sour apples don't make the whole orchid. I had a number of, successful, sessions of vestibular therapy at Broward North. I rate the Occupational and rehabilitation department and specifically, therapist Marie Kline and secretary Edna Stickel Five Stars. I came here due to COVID and an infection of my colon (obviously never fun). For reference, I have severe OCD and BPD, so hospitals are my literal worst nightmare (not having control of things, feeling trapped, not having strict schedules or regimes). The nurses were AMAZING with me. I had a (couple) pretty severe episodes while admitted here, and I was met with nothing but compassion, patience, and genuine care. They also helped me figure out a medication regimen to help with the panic attacks. Not once did I feel judged, only cared for. Oh, and all of my PHYSICAL health was cared for perfectly as well. Upset at the MICU unit. The nurses were very heartless. Told my best-friend her dad was going to die of a heart attack in an hour or maybe in the next few days. Luckily he didn't. The whole family came to see him because of the nurse claiming her dad would die soon. He was in a coma. Another MICU nurse passed by laughing saying "look at this patients room! They have their whole family here haha what do they think this is a party!?" A Very unprofessional team. read more

My husband was in this hospital in 2022 and was neglected, kept drugged up and not fed The staff new my husband could not feed himself and will still leave his tray of food there to get cold. If of the family could not get there he would starve. My husband and I agreed to a surgery and they kept postponing the surgery. They even sent him home all drugged up and had not dine the surgery. He did die a few weeks after being discharged from the hospital into rehab. Glad he was at a different hospital when he died. He died a slow and painful death because of browsrd health north. IThe primary on my husband's case I believe found out he died because he put a lie in the records He said that they had a hard time getting my husband and I to consent to the surgery. If there was a zero rating I would've checked that instead of one star. Don't go to Broward Health North emergency room. They are in adequate, the attending nurse had a cold, did not do triage, temperature, blood pressure, blood oxygen. The attending nurse talked about death. The room was dirty the ER room light was broken, hand sanitizer empty. I was there for same problem 10 earlier and was found to have a UTI. offered urine sample, but, nurse refused to test it. When discharged and I couldn't walk, I practically begged for a wheelchair to transfer me to the entrance. Go to a different ER hospital. read more

My experience at this hospital has to be the worst I have ever experienced while being in pain & trauma. I arrived to the Broward Health North around 12 noon for an automobile accident I was involved in. Upon arriving a young lady greeted me, gave me papers, so I completed the new patient form. After completing the form another lady by the name of Haley Kewisnkie RN, brought me to the back to check my blood pressure, my weight, etc. While facing all of this pain, Haley insisted that I could not use a wheel chair, that she wouldn't give me water, medication or food, because I needed to wait until after my MRI. I sat in the waiting room for 2.5 hours before I was seen again. Multiple times I asked could I lay on a bed because my legs were hurting so bad & my neck. The answer was "No, we don't have any beds" from Haley K, RN. Of course after a motor vehicle accident, there are necessary phone calls to be made. While on one of these phone calls and standing outside the building, I was handed my discharge papers by Haley K, RN; Flipped to a particular page with no additional information. I asked for a moment to complete my call, as I was interested in having the information within the documents explained. This request was denied. Upon returning inside the building, I proceeded to wait an additional 25 minutes to have this information reviewed. A packet of information was summerized to me, within a minute. Only really entailing my prescription and where it was sent. Not the type of service you wish to have after a traumatic life experience. All in all, my experience after my automobile accident was horrific. I felt hopeless, alone, & unattended to. The young ladies in the office are all mean girls, not friendly, or compassionate. I would not refer this hospital unless you plan to die right inside. As for Christiane C. PA, the receptionist that greeted me, you made me very uncomfortable, questioning my injuries, and ignoring me while I was speaking to you. I do not recommend visiting this hospital or working with these nurses. read more
