I have only been to this place once before, and that was during a restaurant week, so the menu was limited. The Ambience: This is down by the RiverMarket. The location is a cool old bank and has a classic cafe feel. We opted to sit inside since there was a wait for the patio, and we were seated quickly. The Service: The wait staff was helpful with menu choices and extremely friendly. Which was helpful since the menu was overwhelming, and not in a bad way; everything sounded amazing, so it was hard to choose. The Food: I had a Guinness as we had stopped in for some lunch during Irish Fest. My buddy, of course, had the Irish coffee! Our dishes were so very good! I had the short rib hash with egg on top. It was amazing. My buddy got the Chorizo Bierock, which was also a very solid choice! To the Restaurant: Good job all around! I'll be bringing more friends and more business your way!!!

It's been a minute since I wandered down to the River Market, but when I rolled through this past Tuesday to meet a friend for lunch at Brown & Loe, the place was buzzing. Boutiques, bars, food markets, new restaurants, old standbys--it felt like the whole neighborhood had chugged a double espresso. People everywhere, in the best way. Brown & Loe held up its end of the deal, too. I kept it classic with the Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich, and wow--this was no ordinary sandwich. We're talking a perfectly cooked chicken breast (not the sad, dry kind), with just the right crispy sear, melty cheddar, and honey mustard that hit the sweet-and-tangy jackpot. Honestly, it was so good it might trick me into becoming a "lunch downtown" person again. If you haven't been to the River Market in a while, consider this your sign: grab a bite at Brown & Loe, then wander around and fall back in love with downtown KC.

went for brunch on a Saturday in the spring, which I understand is an absolutely insane thing to do. We had a reservation and it was packed in there so it still took about 10 minutes to get sat after we arrived. I had a nitro cold brew, which was fantastic, and the potato pancakes, which were a little bit bland and not a huge portion so I would probably order something different next time--one of my friends got the Loco moco and it was delicious. It's nice to have a more upscale spot in the river market but a little too pricey to be a regular spot for me.

We came in for a coworkers birthday. Our party of five was seated fairly quickly and our waitress was super sweet and helped us pick drinks and an appetizer. We got the pull apart hot rolls which were amazing. Covered in sorghum, topped with bagel seasoning and served with miso butter. It's a combination I never would have thought of and it's works so well. For my entree I tried the meatloaf. The meatloaf itself was moist and super flavorful. It came with goat cheese mashed potatoes which were ridiculously creamy and bacon green beans. My only complaint being the bacon could have been crispier. That being said I cleared my whole plate. For dessert I tried the key lime pie, which I loved. I wouldn't have minded if there was a little more like filling and a little less whipped topping though. All in all a super delicious meal and a great spot.

Such a delicious place!! The Crimson Hugo Spritz is one of the best drinks I've ever had, absolutely delicious!! I tried both the meatloaf and the chicken fried chicken. The meatloaf is so tender that even people who don't like meatloaf would be int to it. The chicken fried chicken has a little bit of spice to the gravy, and it's fantastic. Can't beat goat cheese, mashed potatoes, and bacon, green beans. The ambience with a little bit loud for only being half full, but the aesthetic is really nice.

We are always looking for unique places to go and eat. While down at the River Market on Sunday we had brunch at Brown & Loe. This establishment is located in a former bank. The history of the building itself and the surrounding area adds to the quaintness. They have kept some of the original fixtures and features of the bank. The staff are friendly and helpful. They use as much local product as possible in all of their dishes. Which is another reason we enjoyed eating here. The food was excellent, the drink (Churchills breakfast) was delicious, and the food portions where generous. We love supporting local establishments with good food, fun atmospheres, and who also support local. We will be back.

I had never heard of this place until this weekend. Stopped in for lunch after hitting the river market. The location is a cool old bank and has an old school classic cafe feel. We Opted to sit inside since there was a wait for the patio and were seated quickly. The wait staff was helpful with menu choices and friendly. Which was helpful since the menu was overwhelming, and not in a bad way, everything sounded amazing so it was hard to choose. I went with an Irish Coffee and the Chorizo Bierock. I was not expecting the size of the dish to be as big as it was. The Bierock itself was a large size with a lot of flavor and stuffing. However the Red Chili Pepper Gravy was the star of the dish, it was so good!! I was tempted to lick the bowl clean!! I will definitely be back and try out more of the menu options!!!!

    Wild mushroom gnocchi

I've had several excellent meals here before which is why I'm not giving a worse review for tonight's meal. Tonight I was swayed into the special: wild mushroom gnocchi. This was a huge miss. I think they've misplaced the salt and pepper in the kitchen. Not a single thing on the plate had flavor other than what it would have if you got it raw from the grocery store. The sun dried tomato was the strongest flavor of the dish if that's any indication of the lack of flavor. Then there's the sauce...or rather soup. A flavorless soup who's only job was to add moisture to the dish, if only it could stick to anything. I've had vegetable broths with more flavor than whatever liquid this is supposed to be. I was planning on having a dessert tonight (the key lime pie sounds delightful), but I've been ruined by this meal.

We had reservations on a Sunday morning before exploring the Market. We loved the old school ambiance of the restaurant and the wait staff was great. We tried the classic breakfast and the potato pancakes- both were delicious. As we left around 1130 it was getting very busy - make reservations!

Yes to Gluten Free Menu!! I had such a great experience at Brown & Low in the City Market and will definitely be coming back! Parking in that area can sometimes be a challenge, but we didn't have any trouble on a Tuesday night. The hostess was warm and welcoming, and our waitress was so attentive. It took a little bit of time to get our order in, but honestly, we were deep in conversation, so I think she was just giving us space. The drinks were fun to try--my Bonal cocktail was the waitress recommendation, and was ok for me (I added a little ice to make it cooler), the house Old Fashioned was excellent, and the vodka coconut drink was a big hit at our table. Now, the food... They have a dedicated gluten-free menu, which already made them a winner in my book!! I'm not celiac, but as someone who is gluten intolerant, I really appreciated seeing notes that even specified "celiac friendly." That kind of thoughtfulness is rare and incredibly helpful. I originally wanted to try the Cuban sandwich until I realized it included brisket (no beef in my Cuban sandwich, please!). Instead, I chose the Pork Flat Iron and wow--what a dish! Everything but the rice was absolute perfection. The pork was cooked perfectly, and the mojo brine was bursting with flavor. I also loved the black bean and corn salad with crema. Rice was ok. As a Caribbean girl, I'm often hesitant to order Cuban-inspired dishes at American restaurants, but this one did not disappoint. The plantains were cooked perfectly too! I just wish the menu had mentioned they were sweet plantains, because I was expecting green, but they were still delicious. The rest of the table ordered the salmon and the French dip, Brussels and truffle fries and everyone loved their meals as well. We were too full to try dessert this time, but I already have my eye on that gluten-free brunch menu for my next visit. I'm so excited to come back and explore more of their options! Brown & Low is a gem in the City Market--attentive service, thoughtful gluten-free offerings, and food that truly delivers. Highly recommend!

Their patio is a great vibe for lunch! I ordered a crimson hugo spritz to drink and it was delicious. The italian chopped salad was very tasty. It wasn't super chopped up, but good nonetheless.

    Apache Burger

A fun place to have dinner in the River Market. We did not have a reservation, but there was room at the bar. The bar staff were friendly and attentive. We started with the Jalapeño Popper Arancini. It was hot temperature but not spicy hot. The filling was cheesy and calmed down the jalapeños. For my main, I had the Apache burger (substituted the 1000 island for French onion mayo). The French onion mayo could be bottled and sold!! This was so so so good!! My fiancé had the short rib French dip. It was good but nothing exceptional. The French fries were crispy, fresh and hot.

This is one of our favorite places for a girls brunch! It's located right near the River Market farmers market. Parking on the weekends can be tricky, so get there with some time to spare to find parking. Service is always lovely, and they have daily specials. Inside is nicely lit and at night it's a moody, dim lit atmosphere. Highly recommend for a girls brunch, or date night!

The Bar program is innovative with lots of unique house infusions, shrubs, and local products. Drinks were delicious ( Stardrop and Shrub & Bubs NA ) as well as the House Fries and Bone Marrow appetizer. For dinner i ordered The Half Bird Fried Chicken. I enjoyed 3 of the pieces, took one home and my date had the other piece. All 5 pieces arrived out piping hot, crispy, bone in and flavorful. I loved the herbed butter and skipped the other sauce as it was too spicy for me. The other entree we ordered was the Coulotte Steak. It was recommended Med-Rare and was perfect. Dessert was exquisite. We shared the Marshmallow Pecan Beiget. It was a single fresh made doughnut with a block of toasted Marshmallow. Our server Paige took great care of us all evening -- friendly, attentive, and helpful without hovering. Drinks were a strong start. My wife enjoyed the Rittenhouse Rye, and I went with the White Mezcal Negroni, which was a fun twist on a classic. We mixed it up more than usual with our food order. I typically go straight for the Smoked Pork Chop (and probably will again next time), but this visit I decided to try the Chicken Tagliatelle. No regrets -- just a reminder of how much I love that pork chop. We loaded up on small plates to kick things off: the Pickles, Potted Cheese, Mushrooms, and Carrot Soup. The "pickles" are more of a seasonal vegetable assortment than traditional pickles, which made them more interesting. The mushrooms and the soup were absolute standouts -- rich, comforting, and perfect for a chilly evening. For entrées, we ordered the Courlette Steak and the Chicken Tagliatelle. The steak had great flavor, though it came out a bit more done than the medium we requested. The chicken pasta was hearty and satisfying, and I'm glad I gave it a try. Dessert really stole the show. The Pudding Chômeur was easily the highlight of the night -- warm, sweet, and incredibly comforting. Total crowd-pleaser. The Almond Cherry White Chocolate Ice Cream was also a big hit at the table and a perfect way to finish the meal. Another memorable dinner at one of our favorite spots. Now let's hope my photos post this time.

I didn't have a reservation and was worried I wouldn't be able to be seated but I was by myself so I decided to risk it. The location stands out because well, there's not much else around, a parking lot across the street and not much else. I was offered seating outside and took it, not wanting to wait and where was my table but out front. I was worried that since I was the lone diner that I might get overlooked but my server managed to come check on me while heading inside to check his other tables while I got to enjoy the quiet and watch the sun set and while I had a fantastic meal. The top of the menu has their bread service, which I got and I ordered the tartare, and at the suggestion of the server the chilled corn soup. After having had KC style barbecue the past few days I wanted something a little lighter and was recommended the scallops. I'll start in reverse order here and describe my main. I've made the mistake of ordering seafood in landlocked states and paid for that error. I will wholeheartedly endorse ordering the scallops here, they had that fresh springiness, that light brine and I don't even like sweet potato but it just enhanced the star of the show. The chilled corn soup was also perfect-not overly sweet. I just got the taster but man it was so effortlessly good. A little meatiness from the crab, a bit of aromatics from the cardamom and a surprisingly brief sweet heat from the jalapeno. I love tartare and I loved how it was presented here with a wasabi tofu paste which gave it a little kick and yuba skin instead of bread was a nice touch. So, while we're on the subject, that bread. Oh man, that bread maybe I should fly into KC just for that. My friend was not wrong. On top of that I had their Polychronic cocktail which was like a tropical twist on a Manhattan which was terrific. Definitely the best meal I had in KC.

It's magical! The menu does rotate frequently, but somethings stay on for a while, like the cauliflower. Never have I ever been so excited about a head of cauliflower, but this one is just so delicious with the nuttiness of the almond slivers and the mild spices from the romesco. YUM. We ended up ordering two bottles of white and two bottles of red ($40-50 price range) and shared those between the six of us. We were also allowed to cork-and-carry any wine that we didn't finish. We ordered and shared the following appetizers: cheese & charcuterie, roasted red pepper hummus, crispy shrimp, pommes frites, and chicken shawarma. All of it was great - especially the chicken shawarma. Why this review isn't 5 stars: We were there to ask questions about different wine profiles and really learn about what we were drinking. This task seemed out of the comfort zone of our server, which we thought to be odd. However, there was another gentleman there (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) that really helped us out and steered us in the right direction all night. His recommendations did not disappoint. The other reason is that the rest of the menu is at a high pricepoint. We only ordered appetizers because of this. Overall - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Our bartender was great as well as all the staff behind the bar and host stand! I especially appreciate the patience of our bartender, we came and ordered many rounds of small plates, (you should do the same!) and he was nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. To start we had some furikake fries and shishito peppers. There are a lot of exciting and multilayed dishes on the menu, I think these two humble sides though really pack a punch and show that everything on the menu brings it's A game. From there the food ordering escalated as everyone in my group was over the top excited. The stand outs for me were, the dry aged salmon nigiri, the toro hand roll, the crab apple roll and my group was especially blown away by the scallops and are still talking about them a week later! Noka is in my opinion, really bringing a new level of dining to Kansas City. I'm not over stating it to say it is one of a kind in this city and everyone should try to get in.

My husband and I visited Noka for our anniversary, and from the moment we sat down, it felt like an…read moreexperience rather than just dinner. First, the aesthetics are an easy 11/10. Every detail feels intentional, from the plating and presentation to the atmosphere itself. As someone who appreciates design, Noka absolutely delivers. Food-wise, there were two undeniable stars of the night: * Wagyu Nigiri (100/10) - One of the best bites I've ever had. Rich, buttery, perfectly balanced, and worth ordering every single time. * Crab Campanelli (11/10) - Absolutely incredible. Comfort food elevated to fine dining quality. If I came back tomorrow, I'd order this again without hesitation. Other highlights: * Filet (10/10) - Beautifully cooked, incredibly flavorful, and paired with perfectly prepared bok choy. Everything on the plate felt intentional. * Night Market Wings (8.5/10) - The quality was excellent. The sweet heat profile just wasn't exactly my personal preference, but that's purely subjective. If you enjoy spicy food with a lingering, slightly numbing heat, you'll probably love these. * Shrimp Tempura Roll (8/10) - Very good and executed well. * Tuna Roll (7/10) - Good, but it was the least memorable item compared to some of the standout dishes we ordered. Noka excels at creating a complete dining experience. Beautiful atmosphere, thoughtful presentation, excellent service, and several dishes that genuinely surprised us. For a special occasion, date night, or anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in Kansas City, it's absolutely worth a visit.
