Delicious deviled eggs as an appetizer. Bread service for the night was corn bread muffins which were good but not great. I had a house salad with sherry vinaigrette that I loved. The hamburger was good but no sauce- it needed something. At the table we had the fried chicken, chicken & dumplings, and rainbow trout. There was not a wow with any of these. But the banana cream pie was fabulous. And the best was my martini which had lime , basil and a surprising meringue on top. FANTASTIC! Another great thing about this place was the staff. Very friendly and made the night even more fun for my daughter's birthday.
Located on the edge of The Country Club Plaza, Rye Plaza was one of the best recent dining experiences wehave had! Visited early on a Saturday, before the dinner rush, and without reservations, and we picked this place because of some positive Yelp reviews. So glad that we did. Casual attire is okay, and the interior has a great vibe overall. Kind greeter! Lauren was our server, and she was superb, guiding us through their menu and offering elite suggestions with a pleasant tone throughout. Lauren is an All-Star. Our house salad appetizer was really good, and then the amazing level surged to the table. My Salmon dish was magnificent, so flavorful and incredibly well-presented. Perfectly placed on a bed of succulent wild rice and topped with delicious vegetables. It was one of the tastiest dishes that I can remember. Finished by splitting their banana cream pie, which was so good. All in. Loved it. We will come to KC again in the Spring, and we will absolutely visit Rye Plaza again after this visit.
Once again this was a great experience. Came in to have a solo dinner this time and was greeted by the wonderful bartender. I got the burger and fries to eat which was cooked to perfection. After, I tried the Root Beer Float cocktail and the Flourless Dark Chocolate Cake for dessert. The combination of the two was incredibly delicious. The float is perfect for whiskey lovers like myself and the cake is very rich and complimented perfectly by the coffee ice cream on top. They always seem to have the KC sports on tv at the bar too which is nice. I will definitely be back and highly recommend!
We came here for brunch. This isn't the first time we've been here or my first review but it seems my review is now missing. That's unfortunate because my first review was favorable. This one, not so much. We made a reservation and then got a phone call 12 minutes before to make sure we were coming still. We were actually parking at the time. When we walked in, there was no wait and we're seated right away. It took a minute for our waitstaff to come over and then we saw why. She was all over the restaurant. They were clearly short staffed. Felt bad for her. She came over, apologized, and took our drink orders. The adults had coffee and the younger ones had water and lemonade. Our coffee was warm. Not hot, just warm. We ordered the cinnamon roll and the goat cheese sampler. Boith were tasty. For our meals, I ordered the Rye Breakfast with over medium eggs. For those that don't know, over medium is a fine line between runny yolk and cooked all the way yolk. My eggs were basically over easy. Check the picture. It was yolk all through the plate. My gravy was cold and the biscuit was hard as a rock. The only thing I ate was the bacon from my meal. My hash brown tasted like oil and was hard and cold. My kids didn't like their pancakes. The oldest said it was too doughy and was cold. I also asked for no oranges on top but, they both had oranges. The youngest one just didn't eat it at all after one bite. Hubs meal was also cold. Again, our waitstaff was doing the best she could being they were so short on staff. We won't be back though.
Ninety-percent of my visits are for breakfast/brunch. My wife and I used to wake up on a weekend and head to Rye arriving around the same time it opened. The timeliness almost always allowed us to get an open seat at the bar. Thats my recommendation for a party of two without a reservation. I recommend getting a reservation for table service. It's my favorite cinnamon roll in town. They're filling enough to be a meal for two. There's no fun in that that though. I like to order the hash browns too, at least. I always wanted to try the burger. I finally tried it on my most recent visit around lunch time. It was delicious. The house pickles added good flavor. This is a place where you'll want to save room for dessert or buy some pie to go. The banana cream pie is the one that keeps me coming back.
I had more than the apple pie but it was the only thing that I actually took a picture of. I loved the pie and had no clue I would like it because pies not my go to dessert. I think I like it because it was layers of apples with a crumble style topping versus a traditional pie crust. The caramel sauce was really good mixed in the a little ice cream. The whipped goat cheese appetizer was sneaky good, the honey and the greens that came with it made a unique flavor that kept me eating it. The fried chicken here was delicious, lightly fried batter, juice and flavorful.
On a Saturday afternoon this place is buzzing with people. Just when you think it's too crowded, you realize when you're seated. That you don't have that crowded because the restaurant is quite spacious. I totally enjoyed the vibe, and the great service from Kate. Cinnamon bun- They are known for their cinnamon bun. This dessert is offered as an appetizer and it's huge. You literally can share this with another person. I like the fact the frosting wasn't overly sweet. The cinnamon bun was warm and chewy but not doughy. Some may like it more drier but I prefer it how Rye makes it. Shrimp and grits- Nice serving size.. Grits were creamy and plenty of shrimp. Only issue for me was the sauce, it tasted more like a watered down bbq sauce. That flavor was off putting to me. Chicken fried steak- This entree can easily feed two people. The steak was fried perfectly and seasoned well. I would suggest though, use mashed potatoes that are not instant potatoes. The instant potatoes blended too much into the gravy and you couldn't tell them apart. Smoked short rib hash- This dish had so much potential but it fell short due to the blandness of the flavor. To me the only flavor that stood out was lemon. But from what I read of the description of the dish. There is no lemon, so why did it have a sour (lemon) undertone flavor? Cocktails- Amazing
First time at Rye and was impressed! Starting off with the service, I had called a day before Easter to see if there were any available reservations, the person on the phone I believe Alex was his name was extremely helpful and was able to fit 3 of us in. When we arrived on Easter not only was the entire area clean and welcoming but the staff was friendly and polite, we were immediately showed to our seats and asked if we'd like to start off with drinks and appetizers. Our server was friendly, fast and respectful. Our food and drinks were the main theme of our brunch. Fresh and perfect made, each bite was bliss. Highly recommend this place for brunch and I'm excited to return to try their dinner menu. Overall great first time experience at Rye!
Brussels sprout: Good appetizer that balances the meal due to its tangy notes (lemony). Bacon was a good touch too, can't go wrong with that. Friend chicken with gravy: Personally could've gone without it but since I'm from out of town, I had to try. Sweet potato casserole: It's got some fall spices and the marshmallow was a nice touch. Very flavorful! Shrimp and grits: This is the star of the meal - not like a North Carolina style dish but it's hearty and tasty. Pistacho Nutella cinnamon roll: YUM! Fantastic heated up (you might have to take it home because the portion sizes are pretty big).
Rye is down in the Plaza of KC! Kinda on the outskirts, but still easy to find and enjoy! We went for lunch one day, and it was pretty dead inside, maybe 5 tables and they stuck us in the back corner right next to another table, which seemed kinda funny. Our server was missing a lot of service and drinks were not getting refilled and we were waiting a while to order & then get our check and then have him bring our check back. I could tell the table next to us as well was having the same issue with him. BUT the food was 10/10! Wow! This will now be one of our top restaurants in KC! Everything was delicious, my husband has been on the shrimp & grits train which lead us to this place! I got a brie dip & ceaser salad *girl dinner* hahah!
Great brunch spot. Elevated casual - full bar, tons of cocktail options. Do NOT miss out on the fresh baked lemon meringue- perfection. I also loved my meal of sweet sausage, cornbread, greens and a jammy egg. So much flavor!
A casual spot with good food that's just a little pricey. Service was good. We were sat instantly on a Saturday morning for brunch. Our server came over almost immediately. Food: We got the cinnamon roll for $11. And this was a monster of a cinnamon roll. It was huge and easily shareable among 4 people. We were not warned before hand. The only thing we wished was that is was hot. It came out like warm instead. We also got the French toast and chicken. The chicken was a little dry and the meal was overall a little overcooked but it still had good flavor. We would have gotten a drink but decided $12 for a mimosa was just out of our price range. The ambiance is very casual they had the Saturday college football games on the tvs near the bar so the place is also family friendly. If you've got some extra cash to spend and you're in the area we would recommend but I'm sure there are other spots just as good and not as pricey nearby.
Stopped in for brunch on the plaza. Kate was our waitress. We received menu recommendations and gave them a try. Definitely didn't thoroughly review the menu item's ingredients when it came to my mom ordering shrimp & grits as it has shredded pulled pork atop the grits. It was a lot. She doesn't eat pork so we removed it. We let Kate know upon one of her check-ins with us. The grits and shrimp weren't all the flavorful. It's always interesting to see how restaurants put their own flavor to traditional dishes and this was definitely unique. My French toast slices were good, the syrup & butter gave it flavor. It looked like the chicken was going to be with the lightly crisp skin, which dropped off the chicken occasionally ended up being the flavorful part of the tenders. The chicken itself was not seasoned at all. It had no flavor to it. The appetizer, fried green tomatoes were tender but the cornmeal breading was very gritty. I've had cornmeal breading before but it was not overdone like this. Our dining experience involved periods of waiting when it came to getting our check after we finished eating and receiving the receipt after providing payment. There were more than a few occasions we couldn't find our waitress and asked someone else for things.

My husband and I had read nothing but good things about Rye so, as we were at The Plaza on Saturday, we decided to give it a try...and can see why it is all the rage! The restaurant interior is a combination of both rustic and elegance. Our server was attentive and so sweet! For the appetizer, we ordered the whipped goat cheese. Even if you don't like plain goat cheese, like my husband, trust me, you'll like this. It has a honey mixture on top that makes the goat cheese all the more addicting! It is accompanied by DELICIOUS crusty bread, salad that tastes like it is mixed with a SAVORY sweet onion vinaigrette, and prosciutto. For entrees, I ordered the regular friend chicken sandwich with a side of fries. As I am from the South, I am VERY picky about my fried chicken. As far as restaurant fried chicken goes, this is THE best fried chicken I've ever eaten! The skin was thick and crispy and the chicken breast was very juicy! Not greasy at all. The condiment is a spicy aioli, which was not too spicy (a good thing). It also comes with a pickled cucumber and onion salad that was addicting. The sandwich has one of my favorite types of lettuce: Bibb. The fries were PERFECTLY crispy and seasoned. My husband ordered the fried chicken, which comes with mashed potatoes and gravy and a salad. He loved his meal and said his fried chicken was also the best. The mashed potatoes, which of course I had to try, were so buttery and the prime example of why it is a comfort food. Again, we can see why Rye is recommended by multiple people. We cannot wait to eat here again!!!! read more
Food was excellent if you like southern country food. Goat cheese and bread was amazing. The bread was very fresh and crisp. The cheese was almost like a buttery spread. Generous pours wine, but maybe we just gotta bartender in the right mood. Just FYI, everything was fairly heavily breaded. Service was very attentive, especially because it was busy because of the games. Easy to find right across the fountain as a landmark. Simple ambience. read more

Three of us tried Rye for the first time. It was lunchtime and although we did not have a reservation we were seated at an inside table quickly We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The recipes and seasonings were unique and delicious. Even their homemade hot sauce was fantastic. I had the Hot Honey Sausage with Braised Greens. The sausage really was spicy and it came with an egg served soft boiled with cornbread. I added the homemade hot sauce to the dish for even more heat and flavor. My friends had The Rye Breakfast and The Burnt Ends Hash. Each of them loved their dishes. We had no complaints and only praises. The service was stellar from Hostess to Server to Food Runner. Everybody did a great job. The view from the restaurant out the window is of Mill Creek Park and the fountain which really makes dining here special. I'll be back to try dinner! read more
Such a cute place in a great location on the plaza! We made a reservation and were seated quickly. The decor is so cute and really adds to the ambience. The pancakes and waffles and chicken are delish and staple dishes! It was super busy since we were there for Sunday brunch which added to the fun vibe! read more
We stopped in for Sunday brunch at 1pm and were able to get a table with only a short wait even without a reservation. Our server was friendly and helped us with some recommendations after he had to break the news to us that the cinnamon rolls were sold out. I ordered the chicken and waffles which had some fun flavor additions like the marshmallow. My friend ordered pancakes which were so fluffy and so good. This was one of the best brunches I've had in a while and will definitely be back next time I'm in KC! read more
My wife and I stopped in at Rye on the Saturday before Mother's Day after seeing a show at KC Rep UMKC. Alex was our server and he was amazing!! Please ask for him. We enjoyed the Beets & Berries Salad. My wife and I weren't starving, so we shared that and a 3-piece fried chicken plus some smashed potatoes. The salad was the best thing we ordered. The chicken was pretty good. The breading was thin and tasty. The hot sauce they brought was spectacular!! I had a Coors Banquet draft (yay for them having that!) and my wife enjoyed a nice Chardonnay. We were stuffed but I got a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie to take home. It was good but the chocolate chip cookie we got my wife was maybe the best I've ever had. Honestly, we didn't love the chicken, but Rye is so good we will be back. We enjoy both locations but Leawood is easier parking of course. I love that this location has a turntable and reel-to-reel player. Great touch inside. Had the most delightful experience at Rye and I have to praise them for their attention and service on such a busy day for them! We decided to try a walk in for brunch on Mothers Day. The were able to seat us right away on their beautiful patio overlooking the fountain. The food was incredible, the friend chicken and chicken fried steak were delicious. The service was impeccable. Amazing drinks. Adri was the best server and accommodative in my request for a candle for my daughter's birthday! I would absolutely eat here again and highly recommend! 10/10! read more
Our first time at The Plaza Rye location and it did not disappoint. We bellied up to the bar and started with a peach Bellini and a beer. The bartender was kind enough to steer us clear of the draft beer, as the basement machines were down and the beer was about 60 degrees, though slightly disappointing it wasn't a deal breaker. The hanger steak wedge salad was delicious, steak seemed aged and it was cooked a perfect medium. The fried chicken sandwich is massive and a meal for 3, itself. The fries were ever so slightly dusted with tithe perfect seasoning combo, no ketchup needed. After a morning of shopping, going to Rye for a cocktail and done good country style grub, was needed. read more
I made reservations and went on a Sunday night to enjoy steak night. The Ceasar salad was really good and was one of my faves. For dinner I ordered the 12oz ribeye rare along with a loaded baked potato. The steak was nicely prepared. Not a huge amount of flavor. The potato was awesome. The bacon that topped it was so delicious. Next came dessert MoKan pie. It was so delicious. Seems that this pie was created at this place. The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice. The dark wood and the accents of white subway tile made it a memorable meal. I would visit again and try the pork chop in the future. read more

Absolutely wonderful dinner at Rye Plaza location. We had 7 people, the availability is better than Leawood location. The steak for two - Tomahawk Ribeye was excellent, just right amount of fat and tenderness. We also really liked their pasta cooked with squash, little bit spicy into it, very good. We have been this restaurant for years, always can count on the quality of the food. read more
This gem is worth a visit if you're in Kansas City! They take comfort food to a whole other level that will leave your tastes buds happy and your stomach full. I couldn't get enough of the chicken and dumplings, which paired deliciously with their spritz. Staff could people more friendly, but overall the experience was good. read more

Great time at Rye! Not a bunch of people eating brunch. Service was fine. You would see your server and ask for something and for how non busy it was, feel wait time didn't add up with how long it took. The goat cheese spread my wife loved but just wasn't for me. The shrimp and grits was great! Probably the highlight meal of my trip to KC. Shrimp was JUMBO, pulled pork and as flavorful and a good touch with the grits. I would definitely come back if I am in the area. read more
I've visited Rye on multiple occasions throughout the years and every visit has been a more than pleasant experience, the service is always impeccable and the food has constantly been good year after year (menu change after menu change). The brunch is desirable, with mimosas to enjoy and a wide variety of sweet and savory options on the menu. The happy hour is always a winner with small bites that are tasty and well prepared cocktails. And if you have a sweet tooth never skip dessert. The Country Club Plaza needs to take note and keep Rye around because the local establishments are dying out and this is a real gem of the Midwest. The fried chicken is elevated while still being homey, speaking of homey and old-fashioned (in the best way possible) the pies are some of my favorite in the city, other than my grandmas. I always patron the Rye booth at the plaza art fair and they always have good small bites to munch on while walking around the bustling fair. The bisque is buttery and oh so smooth! The chicken skin is crispy and never burned. The brownies are bodacious and melt in your mouth. Also, appetizer wise just try the hush puppies and thank me later, sometimes they are blue crab sometimes they smoked short rib, both times they are delicious. If you want something a tad lighter try the rainbow trout, it little falls apart it's so flaky and the hints of lemon are so fresh. We didn't have a reservation but were seated on the patio rather quickly. James our waiter for the evening was very energetic and eager to serve us. He quickly took our drink orders and shortly after our entree selections for the evening. We all ordered and the food was brought out plated beautifully. Everything was fresh and tasty, which is what I love most about farm to table dining. The prices were affordable and the ambiance is great for girls night out or a date night with your person. Very nice and enjoyable. Not super fancy where you HAVE to dress up but still a nice place. I loved the lighting here and almost wished it was pouring rain to make it 10x better. There was plenty of seating and even options to sit at the bar as well. My boyfriend got the 14 oz KC Strip which was cooked perfectly and the sauce was a nice compliment. As a non-steak connoisseur, he personally wouldn't pay the price for the steak he had gotten. For his two sides, he got the Mac n cheese with crispy bacon and the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were creamy but otherwise plain. The Mac n cheese itself was also pretty generic but had green bread crumbs and the bacon was a nice thick cut and good addition to the side. I tried their butternut squash cavatelli which had chicken and pieces of butternut squash in it. I loved it, there was the perfect amount of creaminess and I love the pasta type. We got the goat cheese appetizer which was also pretty good! 6 slices of bread with goat cheese and honey. It spread on nicely and tasted even better with a little bit of savory, sweet, and salty. The staff was super nice and checked in frequently. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation for dinner because it was pretty full. read more

Came here for a business dinner. The service here is top notch, and the waiters pour a ton of attention into your party. One of the people in our party's order came out wrong (she ordered a filet mignon and she got a pork chop instead), and they took it back to the kitchen and gave her a $40 gift certificate for the mistake. Crazy!! They definitely know how to take care of their customers and want to make sure everything is as perfect as possible. The actual food was pretty good, but not astounding. Ordered the Dry Aged KC Strip steak medium rare with a side of bacon mac and cheese. And a bunch of appetizers. I think the only downside was the steak was too fatty for me, but I feel like that's something I should have expected when ordering steak. Loved the crab hushpuppies. Also loved the bacon mac and cheese. I don't know what the green stuff on top of the mac and cheese is, but it was bursting with flavor. I think they used a ton of butter or oil or something because it made me feel pretty heavy. I also don't drink alcohol, so I asked the waitress for a surprise fruity mocktail. I think they got me something with ginger ale. It was delicious, yum! i'd skip the mocktail that's on their regular menu though. I don't quite remember what it was, but it was too bitter for me personally. Definitely a good date night place. But it's a bit out of budget for me. If it wasn't someone else's treat, I don't think I'd frequent this place myself. read more
There are a lot of options on this menu. The fried chicken was excellent and center stage. I had the duck which was had to many components to fully enjoy - mustard, greens and spatzle. Too much in my opinion but the chicken we ordered for the table saved the day. The cocktails were perfect. Their pies are worth trying! read more

Went to a shower here. The staff was super kind and efficient. The space was great for what it was. The cinnamon rolls are always highly touted, my family loves the banana cream pie. I will say I won't be buying a mimosa here again... it's a silly high price for what it is. read more
This was the perfect place for my holiday Christmas party!! I'm a big fan of the pies here! This was my first time trying the food it was great! I would definitely recommend the shrimp and grits, the egg appetizers were super yummy. read more
