We were seated upstairs at a very comfortable table with great scenery, and our server, Shannon, was outstanding--she had complete command of our lively group and took great care of us throughout the meal. ​The food and drinks hit every mark. I started with a traditional Bloody Mary (major bonus points for the crispy bacon garnish and salted rim). For my main, I ordered the KC Classic burnt ends sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was packed with flavor and had a great spicy kick, while the fries were so crispy and perfectly cooked that they didn't even need dipping sauce. The chicken and waffles, club sandwich, and Reuben ordered around the table looked just as impressive. ​The only minor drawback was a chilly draft blowing directly on our table--it almost felt like we were seated in a paranormal cold spot! Shannon took it in stride with great humor, rightfully pointing out that Union Station's vintage ventilation was the culprit rather than the restaurant. Brunch at Harvey's at Union Station is becoming a go-to for us--this was our second time, and it did not disappoint. The options are endless (seriously, you'd have to stay all day to try everything), but that's the fun of it--trying a little of everything. Saturday on a trip to Kansas City, my family and I decided to stop in to Union Station for lunch at Harvey's. Union Station is absolutely beautiful and worth stopping in to see if you've never been there! We knew we were going to visit the station and looked up restaurants to see if anything looked good. Harvey's menu caught our eyes, with its southern flare, and luckily didn't require reservations. My grandmother, Aunt, and myself were all seated quickly, and our waitress asked for and brought us our drinks out super fast. The restaurant was a little loud seeing as how it's inside of a train station full of people! With that being said, I've been in louder restaurants and this wasn't that bad. I ordered Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles with a cup of Gumbo, my Aunt ordered the Gourmet Grilled Cheese with Sweet Potato Fries, and my grandma ordered a Prime Rib French dip. We all shared hot pimento cheese dip. First of all that cheese dip was to die for. I've only ever had cold pimento cheese and was not a fan... obviously it's because hot pimento cheese is the way to go!!! My Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles was amazing. I think the waffle batter needed a little salt, but otherwise it was perfect. The gumbo was a little spicy and packed with flavor... just the way I like it!! My grandma's French dip thankfully on soft bread for her to eat, and the meat was sliced thin enough for her to chew. My auntie ordered the gourmet grilled cheese, and that thing was on firrreeee!! Her sweet potato fries came with a side of marshmallow fluff that had cinnamon in it, she was literally scraping the cup of that clean! We noticed they have a breakfast buffet on the weekends and one coming up for Mother's Day, that we might make reservations for!!! We were in town for the World Cup and were heading back from Kansas City via Amtrak so we had a few hours to kill before our departure. The union Station place know as Harvey's in right in the center of the big hall and has a unique two floor rotund design. It was a Sunday and so we were told there was just a Brunch Buffet today option only and that was fine. However we later learned why they don't post menus or prices on any signage outside the entrance. After a couple of plates of Biscuits and Gravy, Sausage links, sliced roast beef and a few dessert sweet options...our bill came to $109 for just the two of us. And they already included an 18% gratuity standard to boot. I don't mind paying tourist amounts for dining, but this ain't Vegas baby?! Charging $36 per person for a medium sized buffet is just robbery. read more

I had lunch at Harvey's with my family after taking in an exhibit at Union Station a while back and I have to say it was pretty average. I'd always wondered about this place as it's front and center while you walk around Union Station, you'd be hard pressed NOT to notice it. The food is just okay in my book. It will satisfy, but it won't wow and I kind of wish it would be more remarkable. That being said, after thinking I'd give Harveys 3 stars I bumped it up to 4 because the service is really great, and you can't beat the ambiance if you're wanting to have a reason to stay and enjoy the feel of Union Station a bit longer. Overall, I'd return, but I'd probably only go here if I happened to be nearby and in need of a meal. read more

Three of us ate at Harvey's on a Wednesday afternoon. Service with drinks was the issue. Server had to be reminded I ordered a hot mocha, when it arrived it tasted a lot like cappuccino. Was recommended by our hotel. Walked over via The Link which took about 15 minutes only to find out they were not serving breakfast off the menu and it was mandatory buffet only for $40 per person. When you scan the QR code at the table it pulled up the normal menu so that was confusing and the sign posted out front said mandatory buffet started on April 5th (it's March 29th) so also misleading. When I asked if there was a decent amount of vegetarian stuff at the buffet our server said "no there's just like salad" and insisted they wouldn't make an exception to make me avocado toast of anything off the menu. This spot is right in the middle of Union Station, and would be a recommendation for the views and people watching alone. We were taken to the upper level, which I liked because the view of the whole space is unblocked. The amazing high windows and intricate ceiling really make for a great way to spend an hour. Oh, and the food is pretty good too. My kid had the non spicy chicken and waffles, 4 mini waffles and two large chicken tenders, with maple syrup and whipped butter on the side. He ate it so fast, I didn't even get a bite, but he said it was great. I had the salmon with quinoa, kale, tomatoes and edamame, drizzled with a bit of a honey vinaigrette. I could have used a bit more of the vinaigrette but the dish was healthy and good, with a slightly larger than expected piece of salmon. Server was helpful, answering questions regarding Union Station, where to view the trains, etc. Solid spot for solid lunch. I don't know that you go to a train station for the food. Real hungry I was on a mission hi get pork bacon and eggs and anything else was a bonus. I had a full morning by 12 with no coffee or breakfast. I had already purchased in my heart that I would go over to Union Station not knowing what was in store, but was interested.. immediately when I walked in, I spotted Harvey's it was packed. I came back by I had decided I was just going to offer order off the menu because I only wanted bacon and eggs. However I had seen peel and eat shrimp and catfish on some of the other customers plate so I was ready to order. The hostess informed me there was no menu, only the buffet. So many food options, with a beautiful view so I decided I would pay the full price of a buffet to get those four items! Needless to say, I arrived with one hour left all of the catfish was gone, and the manager was what I felt to be rude about it offered me an alternative of a cold salmon to be heated versus the catfish because they ran out before 2 o'clock. The buffet was over at three, and that was it. I was flabbergasted.! Like you are the only establishment of the four serving food that have catfish on the menu and you run out an hour before your brunch is over. Oh my gosh then you give me an attitude because I'm confused and when I ask if you would make an adjustment in my buffet price but she interrupted me and discarded the entire bill. Which probably would have appeased someone that had not set themselves up or wasn't completely interested in just getting an order of catfish? I was bummed and disappointed. I left without catfish. The price was the worst part, over $70 for 3 people and two of us shared a burger. They really need a family restaurant at this location, being so close to Science City, Rainbow slime and the theatre, but this is far from it. The bus person in his 70's I'm guessing, looked like he was high. The waitress seemed super tired and you could tell she was just simply over it. Someone is making lots of money off this place, clearly it's not the employees. This historical station stories takes us through the 100-year history of Union Station through artifacts, photos and interactive information screens. Union Station memories include anticipating the arrival of trains filled with loved ones. I almost never give reviews under 4 stars, but here it is. We came here around 1pm today, before heading over to science city. We were seated at the same time as two other parties. They both had servers come over to take their drink orders. In the time they had received their drinks and put in their food orders, a server never came over to our table at all. I'm not sure if there was some kind of miscommunication, but after ten minutes of waiting we left, and I'm not sure if anyone even noticed. I won't be returning to Harvey's. read more

Stopped at the Union Station to take pictures of the Chiefs exhibit. We got hungry & stopped here! It was busy, but we still managed to be seated fairly quickly (party of 6). The food was delicious, fresh & nice sized portions. It was clean all around & the waitresses were super nice! It's right by the entrance of Union Station so of course you expect it to be noisy & busy. You can still enjoy your own conversations at your table though. 10/10! This place ripped me off !!!! Add said 1999 Sunday brunch buffet. It also said the coffee was included. I was charged $135 for three of us to have the all you can eat buffet on Sunday again supposed to be $19.99 each. These thieves charged a total of $135. 105 for three adult brunch. $18 for four cups of coffee. I'm sure they have some fine print hidden somewhere that they can get their sales out of this but as far as I am concerned this is legally theft by deception. Not only will I never go to Harvey's again I will not go to any of the establishments in Union station because if they allow Harvey's to steal from patrons they all probably do. I have a photo of the ad and a photo of the final bill which was charged to my credit card. Unfortunately I believed their ad and did not even bother to check the check. Dining at Harvey's is an enjoyable combination of food and atmosphere. My first meal here has been breakfast, but I could see coming over here for more food and drink. The menus cover all the basics, and you are of course dining in the open in beautiful Union Station. For breakfast, most importantly, coffee comes out quickly. I ordered Classic Chicken & Waffles, and a spicier, Nashville option, is also available. Omelets here are smaller in size but much more thickly filled, and options beyond potatoes (e.g, a big bowl of fruit) are available for a small additional fee. While there's plenty of places in the area for great meals, one here is never a bad option. read more

Right inside the famous Union Station, this restaurant offers tons of yummy food to choose from The kids had the hamburgers which were made fresh. They even had the Smokey flavor. Was on my way to Crown Center when I found this little hidden gem in Union Station with sandwiches, flatbreads, pre-packaged salad and sandwich options, snacks, and beverages (including canned/bottled alcoholic ones). Also has some convenience items for Amtrak passengers. Had a delicious meatball grinder (in my top 5 meatball grinders of all time). The meatballs seemed homemade, not out of a bag! The prices are reasonable for its location and convenience. Both people working (cook and cashier who were both also cleaning and stocking) were very friendly and helpful. There are a few tables to sit at or you can get your fresh-made food ready to go. There's no more beautiful place to take a friend than Union Station. I onay wish the food was equal to the grandeur of the place. Fries were cold, sweet potato fries were cold and soggy. A grilled cheese sandwich had no discernible cheese on it. My chicken finger fiend friend didn't care for hers. Here's the best part: the key lime pie had lettuce in it. Little pieces of lettuce here and there ugh. The only food edible on this 4 top was the Gumbo and my Westport salad. The poor waitress was really at a-loss as to what to do.
