There's plenty of seating for dining in, but I decided to place my order to go. The staff was super helpful in guiding me through the menu. I happened to arrive during their Golden Hour and scored a generous plate with salmon, slaw, and grains. The portion was not only filling but absolutely delicious. I ordered the fish & chips! Little pricey. For starters the fish was pre-battered, pre-packaged frozen fish fillets! As soon as I poured malt vinegar on the fillets it softened and turned mushy revealing barely any fish inside the batter! The fries came hot and crunchy but after 5 minutes they were cooled and just 'meh'! Overpriced frozen food!! Won't be back. The ONLY thing fresh was the water! Talked to the manager. Great first experience at Brown Bag! I had the lobster roll with tater tots and a gingerade. Very good, albeit a little expensive but it was filling! Service was amazing as well. The spot is a bit small. I didn't check the back of the restaurant but it's mostly 2 seater booths so keep that in mind. I decided to try this place for the first time. Overall, the food was fresh, and tasty...but a bit expensive and the booths are very tiny. It is fine for a quick lunch date, but mostly a carry out type of establishment. I did like the options of the different teas, some sweet, some not sweet. The grilled, blackened hake, I was told a type of African fish, was really good. Also, the lobster roll was excellent with a good portion of lobster on it. I ordered a grilled fish platter with grains and greens. It was about $20 and very hearty. I loved the sriracha chili sauce. It had a kick and added a lot of flavor to my lunch. We hadn't eaten at Brown Bag Seafood yet, even though we're at Ashford Lane shopping center (where this BBS is located) a lot. We were able to park right in front of the store, but, depending on the time of day, parking in the shared and free parking lot may be challenging. However, there are other parking lots just a short walk away. While we were still in the car, we placed an order online. There was a $7 off coupon to use if you use their mobile app, so that's what we used. We both built our own meals and each ordered the same things: Grilled Salmon Powerbox. We entered, and weren't greeted, even though there were at least three employees behind the counter. When we walked to the counter, one of the employees said,"This area's for pick up." Uh ... ok. Hello to YOU too, counter guy. We told him that we had placed an order online and were going to eat here. So we were told to sit anywhere and they'd bring the food to us. Golly, it seems like the employees don't like to make eye contact here! We sat at a booth near the back of the restaurant. Just my opinion - I didn't get a welcoming vibe here. Even the seating areas don't convey an inviting feel. People who like to eat alone and hide away from others while they eat would feel at home here, and should sit in the back half of the restaurant in one of the booths. There is an outside patio with picnic benches and umbrellas for people who come here in groups. Our food was served to us ... in a large paper bag. We hadn't ordered it as a takeout order, and we even told the employees that we were eating inside. Oh well. We opened up the bag, and it just had two meals in it. No napkins, no utensils. Just the food in takeout containers. *sigh* Went to the order counter to ask the employee where the utensils were. I didn't even get the chance, because the same employee who "non greeted" us didn't look at me at said in a loud voice, "This area's for pick up." Yeah, I know, I heard you the first time. Smh. I looked over at the front end of the counter and saw what I needed. I got the plastic utensils and noticed the sauces in squeeze bottles. I got the bottle marked Boss Sauce and squeezed sauce into a little takeout sauce cup. Opened up our meals. They looked good: grilled salmon, marinated in light teriyaki marinade, and an ancient grain blend of brown rice, quinoa and wheatberry, fresh spinach, and herbs. I felt there was way too much spinach and not enough brown rice in my bowl. The salmon was OK, but it lacked flavor. It was supposed to have been marinated in light teriyaki marinade, but its flavor didn't reflect being marinaded in anything. The Boss sauce that I got at the counter definitely added some needed flavor. When we were done eating, I was still hungry because the overall smaller meal portion didn't do it for my stomach. Based on our experience, especially the far from stellar customer service and the average food, we don't plan on coming back. read more

Fast food seafood. The booths are tiny and the silverware is horrible. The people were friendly and the food was served hot. Hush puppies were just glue balls of dough but the shrimp were tasty! Coleslaw could use some more dressings as it was pretty much just slaw mix from a bag. The sauces were non descriptive and the tartar sauce was bland and tasted nothing like a "regular" sauce ( dill and no pickles). It was watery too. The "chips" were a decent amount of hot french fries, not chips. The beer battered fish was coated with a bland flour mixture but the fish was flakey and tasty. Apparently so good that she said she was getting them for a second time this week. Well that's great advertising. You can order your protein a variety of ways: with grains, as a salad, as a taco, a sandwich or a dinner plate with two sides. Ordered the pepper Jack shrimp and fruits and the flounder green and grains box. Will update review after I try. The shrimp was well seasoned-- bordering on being over seasoned. The grits were creamy, but the shrimp sat on top of the grits, so all the seasoning on the shrimp rubbed off on the grits. The flounder was better. The lady was very helpful with assisting me with finding a low salt protein for my dad as well as repackaging my order which was Togo. Not sure why but the 2 general men African American and possible Hispanic where seemed to be bothered when I was asking questions about the amount of salt used on the protein.When I mentioned the food was meant to be Togo, not sure why but the Hispanic man gave me the dirtiest look as if I was asking for to much. I've noticed the last few times I've been that, even without me asking, whoever is prepping gives me some extra greens and other toppings to compensate. I checked this spot out after having a facial at the spa next door. When I walked in, there were no patrons present. However, there were several staff working. A gentleman greeted me and asked was it my first time. I advised him that it was. He walked over and explained the menu to me. After making a decision I went to the register to place my order. The first time I visited here I got the lobster roll and parm tots and they were amazing. So filling and tasty. My second visit I got the grilled shrimp, veggies, and slaw, this meal as well was very flavorful, filling, and tasty. The Service here both visits exceeded my expectations and everyone was polite, attentive, and helpful. The ambiance is perfect, bright, and gives you a feeling that will make you want to return. Cod was indeed crispy and cooked so the flakiness of the fish was maintained. I preferred the grilled shrimp over the cod, however. The grains & veggies mix is the way to go for a filling & healthy meal. The 2nd meat is $7, but I had a lot of large shrimp & enough of the overall meal for a 2nd meal. The guys there were very friendly & helpful w/ ordering. The gingerade had some fizz like a soda & was not overly sweet. It was ok to me. My husband & I both enjoyed our meals & agreed we'd return. We were greeted as soon as we walked in & they explained how the ordering process works. i have to say i do like marking off what you want & handing it to them. This is not an inexpensive lunch - but do you really want to eat cheap seafood? The portion size did appear to be small, but honestly i was perfectly full when i finished. This rating is strictly for the food and what happened hours later after ingesting. I was a bit on the fence about this place and I should have followed my instinct. I had the Salmon with Quinoa & Spinach for a late lunch today. This kept me full until I arrived home. Without having anything but water after eating my late lunch, it decided to make an appearance again in the form of upchuck‍ The customer service was okay, but dry. What a pleasant surprise!!! I happened upon Brown Bag Seafood yesterday as I was in the area for a medical appt. Oh the joy to have found this place because I left full and grateful! As a pescatarian, I am always on the hunt for new 'fast/casual' restaurants I can try and Brown Bag Seafood is perfect for the occasion. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted (such a little pleasantry that goes a long way) and informed to grab an Expo marker and wipeable menu (cute and clever) to craft out my desired lunch. I especially appreciated the patience by the young lady waiting to take my order as I took a little time to peruse the menu and carefully check off my desires. I went with the build your own option with salmon (well done) as my protein and the half and half of veggies and rice and quinoa. (insert CHEFS KISS here). My food was cooked to perfection. The veggies were steamed well and seasoned so flavorful; my quinoa was moist and also seasoned well. The salmon, oh the salmon, was 10 out of 10. Not overcooked. Melt in your mouth perfection. I did try the Boss Sauce and Buttermilk Ranch on the side. Both were cold, fresh, and added that extra little oomph to my entree. The good news is that both were not even needed as the entree had enough oomph on its own. I also had the mini Chowdah and again, perfection. Definitely homemade goodness in a cup. The potato's were diced just right to make this a yummy dish. The only critique is mine needed just a tad bit of salt and pepper but once added, another divine dish. And then I met Terry (Assistant GM) who opened my eyes to the world of Brown Bag Seafood's garlic bread. Heaven in the form of bread. Garlicky. Buttery. Moist. Just everything (thank you for stopping by to check on me Terry and turning my experience from great to AMAZING!) I was in food heaven (seriously) and most important, satisfied with how much I spent for everything considering our current economy. A little over $20 for a decent size of salmon, chilled mason-jar served sweet tea (yummyyyy), clam chowder, veggies, and quinoa -- sign me up to come again and again and again. Honestly, I can't wait to visit again (I am near the airport and I see my nearest restaurant is 8.9 miles away...they will be seeing me VERY soon as in later tonight possibly. Lol!). We stopped in after reading all the wonderful reviews, but we left feeling a bit disappointed. I gave them 3 stars due to the following: 1. Location: Perfect location, near the Target in Dunwoody. 2. Service: we were greeted by a friendly staff member who explained the process to us. If you haven't been to a brown bag, you take a card from the counter in the middle of the restaurant, mark down what you would like, and then give it to the staff standing at the cash register. You then take a number, get utensils, grab a drink from the fountain, and find a table. They will bring you the food once ready by using the number that they gave you to put on the table. 3. Food: This is where the stars fell for me. I agree with t he review Dan D. left regarding the "large" portion. The portions weren't large. Besides the grilled salmon, everything was mediocre. I was told that the broccoli and sprouted sprouts were cold sides, and the only hot sides were the grains and veggie blend. I didn't particularly like the grains as it was too sour for me, and the veggie blend had too much kale. The slide of garlic bread wasn't toasted all the way and it was huge! The middle of it was still cold because of the size. My friend got a salmon salad but didn't like any of the sauce that was offered. 4. I've had food from the Brown Bag Seafood location in Colony Square and it was great! I didn't know there was one in the Sandy Springs area, so I was excited to stop in and check it out on 1/15 around 2. I went inside and it was lacking. There were two employees behind the counter--one ringing up customers and the other appeared to just be standing around. He greeted us dryly and then proceeded to stare out the door. We were confused by the menus and could've used some help. Also, a few of the tables were dirty. Also, there wasn't anything cooking on the fryers. We decided to try somewhere else instead. The first time I had Brown Bag Seafood was in Chicago and thought the food was superb. So when I saw that there was a new location in the Perimeter area I was so excited to try the place out. On a Saturday around 12noon I ordered my food online. When I walked into the restaurant I was greeted by the super friendly staff, an odor of grease and a strong fishy smell. I was the only customer at the time but you could see they had several to go orders waiting to be picked up. The ambiance was cute and quaint , nice for a lunch date or dining alone. My order was for fish tacos and a side of grilled shrimp with Sesame-Soy Sriracha sauce. My shrimp were good and the sauce super yummy. My tacos had a nice presentation and all the toppings married well but the fish looked like it had been either soaking in grease or undercooked, it was hard to tell with the opaque color and the fishy smell that came from it. I'm a self-proclaimed seafood connoisseur from Maryland and know that if the seafood smells fishy it's probably bad and shouldn't be eaten. I removed the grouper from my tacos and ate them without the fish and they were tasty. Customer service and cleanliness was outstanding. Presentation and packaging of the food was great. Pretty good, although I take exception with what they consider a large portion of protein. I ordered a Dinner Plate, which advertises a "large" portion of seafood, two sides, and garlic bread. The Garlic Bread is particularly good even for Garlic Bread. The Buffalo Blue Tater Tots are also tasty, with just enough blue cheese to make it a supporting player. The Sesame Broccoli Salad was very little sesame though, and in desperate need of salt (It's in packets by the utensils). The portion of salmon is pretty tiny though. A 2.5 ounce filet is fine for a "Regular" portion, but this almost certainly can't be a large. I'm convinced that I got screwed. The restaurant itself is very narrow, and feels like you're in a galley. The tables are basically two seaters, and there isn't a lot of space in the hallway if you need to go to the bathroom. I have to assume that they got my order wrong with the portion size. If this IS a large portion of salmon, then I'll have to re-evaluate, but if I was meant to get two filets, it's very tasty food at a reasonable price with good service and enough variety to keep it interesting. Edit: dropping from 4 to 3 stars. The manager confirmed that her establishment short changed me. However, her response amounted to "Sorry you didn't get what you paid for.
