Just moved down from NYC and haven't mowed a lawn in a couple decades. So when my lawnmower blew the spark plug I had no idea why it happened. Brought it to Browning and the guy looked at it and told me it was probably the wrong sized plug. He could've charged me $47 just to diagnose the problem but he didn't. The plug was indeed the wrong size. Cost me $3 and works perfectly now. This guy's honesty will ensure Browning gets my money moving forward. read more

I had a bad first experience with Browning service. My Class 1 Kubota tractor needed 600 hour service. I called over during the 3rd week of January to get an estimate. I was quoted $471 for a Winter Service Special which included the convenience of pickup and drop back off when done. I knew the 600 hour service was pretty involved and since I was busy with some other projects, I thought the amount was reasonable and scheduled with them for pickup. The first available pickup date was over 2 weeks later on February 11. Browning picked up that morning and two weeks go by with no call or update. I call them and am told they are very busy but should be able to get to it next week. Another week goes by (3rd) no call. I call again and am told the technician will start on it tomorrow and it should be done soon and they will let me know. Several more days go by. I call again and tell them I really need it back as I am worried about snow and may need it to plow. They say it will be done Thursday as they just finished with it but want to park it overnight to ensure a leak was fixed. No call back. I call the next day, this is now Friday March 11, one month later, and am told the technician just finished it that morning but they don't have a total price figured up yet. I have to demand someone call me with a total so I can pay for the work and get it back. I finally get a call from the service manager John on Friday March 11th at 4pm, who informs me the total is $912. I ask how we got to that amount over the quoted $471. He said the $471 I was quoted only covers labor but no parts. I said this was never explained and since they do so much work they really should have given me a proper ballpark estimate knowing how much parts cost for a 600 hour service. He said part of the overage was also because that they put new blades on the mower. I told him I was never called to authorize that work and wouldn't have. My experience was that Browning's customer communication is terrible. I repeatedly had to call them, they never called me to keep me informed. Also they should have let me know that if they were so busy that it was going to take month to get my tractor back, I wouldn't have taken it there to begin with and would have done the work myself. Browning also lived up to their reputation for charging "Loudoun County premium prices." Afterwards I called a competitor and was quoted $655 all in for Parts AND Labor. They seem to feel free to take liberty to do extra work and repairs without verbal authorizations, which is customary with all mechanic shops. I was obliged to pay the bill since I needed it backs and legally they now had a mechanics lien on the tractor. The work performed does seem to have been done well. Prospective customers beware. I've used Browning equipment for well over two decades and they have always taken great care of our family's equipment needs. Whether it's sharpening our chain saw blades, repairing a push mower or servicing our field tractor or zero turn, they do it all. We have brought our own units in and have had them picked up and delivered. They are courteous and patient with explaining what needs to be done and what can wait. Johnny, Eric and Gary in service are all super at what they do. I'm finally writing because we had an issue and the zero turn came home with the problem still there (leaking) . Based upon my past experience, I wanted to do due diligence and check out the salesman's comments and statements. He was lying, about absurdly blatant facts. Head gasket on 18kW generator was blown. Contacted every company that I could find - none wanted to fix the issue but rather just replace the generator, which only had ~50 hours on it at that point. Candy @ Jamies Small Engine repair referred me to Browning. I cannot say enough good things about these folks. I first spoke with Larry who coordinated everything and had Courtney - his most senior field tech come out to confirm the diagnosis and set about fixing the issue. Replaced both head gaskets, adjusted the valve lashings, welded a broken exhaust pipe. Top notch communication and service. Thank you Larry & Courtney. read more

We bought our Kubota BX here several years ago. The sales guy was very nice and did a good job. However, while I was deployed the tracker began to run poorly, it appeared to be the fuel line, something common with these tractors, so my wife had them come out and pick it up. They were supposed to do the scheduled maintenance and fix the fuel line issue, what they did was change a tire (no idea where that came from), replace the fuel filters (more on that), and generally do a once over on the vehicle. When I returned home and found they didn't fix anything on it I took it back and they made the corrections...or so I thought. At 200 hours the vehicle began to have serious fuel issues, not running properly, sputtering, etc, so yesterday I cleaned the entire fuel system and what I found was the fuel filters were original....meaning they never changed them out, and best I can tell didn't do anything with the fuel system beyond remove the fuel and maybe blow out the line. With this virus fiasco going on I now have time to do things around the house, discovering that these guys screwed us over was a revelation, I had told friends they were squared away, the reality is they suck and cost an arm and a leg. Looking back on everything, I should have got a John Deere. read more

I had a Generac 15 kw automatic generator for my house in Bluemont va that was throwing oil really bad and was told that I should replace generator by Generac. I went online and saw that Browning sold and serviced the generator and called them to see if they could fix mine. They came out and pulled the machine apart and replaced the gaskets and solved the problem and saved me a lot of money over the cost of a new one.I would recommend these people to anyone. I really wanted this to be a 4 star experience. After all, they offer free pickup and delivery for their winter service. What a deal right? Wrong. First, they will make you wait forever to pick up your tractor. They try to coordinate your pickup with another drop off in the area. I can appreciate their desire for efficiency but to wait weeks for a pickup is not acceptable. To make matters worse they will not communicate with you during your wait. I was a first time service customer and had to chase them down every time I requested status. E-mails and phone messages were not answered. Second, when they finally picked up my tractor there was a wait to have it serviced. Again, I had to nag to get any status as they do not communicate. Third, they did service and repairs with absolutely no consultation with me before doing work. I was ignored when trying to obtain status on my tractor only to have my tractor dropped off at my home with no mention of what repairs and service were completed or what the cost of siad service would be. Forth, when I asked what was done and how to settle up (I had not given them any form of payment up until that point), I was told it was pretty much a "routine" maintenance. Well, my "routine" maintenance cost me 3x the extimate that was originally quoted! Of course I was expecting to pay for parts as needed and knew the labor cost could be more than originally quoted but these folks never even made an attempt to communicate the extra costs before doing work. They simply did whatever they wanted to do and expected me to pay. Lastly, when I complained about their questionable business practices my complaints fell on deaf ears. I was simply assured of how reasonable and honest they were to all customers. I was told that they had communicated with me during the transaction and was encouraged to return for service in the future so that they could prove what an honest and trustworthy business they really are. Trust me, they are not. I find it hard to fathom that they have any repeat business at all. Unless you want to be taken advantage of, steer clear of these people. read more

After reading the reviews I admit I was worried about dealing with Browning but I decided to give it a try. I called all over the area pricing and checking inventory on an Emark Commercial 30. Browning was within $50 of the next cheapest one in G-burg. I live in Lovettsville so obviously it is not worth $50 to drive to G-burg. Over all I did not experience any of the stuff from the negative reviews and my experience was nothing but positive . I will be going back for more equipment soon. read more

Warning: Fee for credit card transactions in violation of Visa and Mastercard Merchant Agreement, and lying about the source of the fee. I've been a long time customer of Browning Equipment having purchased a 7kw permanent generator, rotor tiller, and other products from them over the years. I recently went to purchase a snowblower (about $1100) and on checkout was told the town imposed a convenience fee on credit cards transactions. After writing a check, which I really didn't want to do, and getting home I looked up the town taxes & fees; nothing. I stopped back at Browning Equipment and spoke to the accounting department who indicated I should have been told there were two prices, one for cash and one that was 2.5% higher for credit (again in violation of Visa/Mastercard Merchant Agreements). What really pisses me off is being lied to. Had they been up front I may have been willing to continue doing business with them and not filing complaints with Visa and Mastercard. If a business prefers you not to use credit then offer a 1% discount to customers if they pay cash, instead of adding a surcharge. Meet the customer in the middle. Just don't lie to your customer. read more

From the moment I walked in and was greeted immediately, this was a great experience. We bought a Cub Cadet riding mower, a snow blade and a leaf vacuum. I really wanted the customer service I would not get at a big box store and I was not disappointed. Maurice in sales continues to go above and beyond his job. I finally got the leaf vacuum out yesterday and a couple of parts (tube and metal attachment that goes on mower deck) kept falling off. I called Maurice and he came out a few hours later and showed me how to fix it (hose was dragging on ground and we used an extra bungee cord to keep metal attachment in place). Did I pay a little more by buying here instead of Home Depot or Lowes? Yes probably and worth every penny. I have had excellent service from all departments (sales, service and parts), including support in getting a financial contribution from Kubota for rectifying a defect on a tractor that came to light outside the warranty period. Today was the first and last time I'll be at this business. Today is also Veteran's Day and I am a Veteran. I've been overwhelmed with the support of the community and complete strangers; not here. I only bring this up because it was so opposite of what I'd have expected from an establishment such as this - typically they are staffed by wholesome and knowledgeable personnel within the trade. Rude parts department guy who had a bad day - apparently thinks he's the only one who experiences bad times - if only he knew what a bad time is. Thing is, doesn't matter, what kind of customer service rep complains to the customer about the day as if it is justification for the rude behavior. BLUF - I called before I came in and was very specific with what I needed. I arrive and I'm given a bag of parts (main components - none of the bolts or washers required for assembly. Blank stare from the service rep as it's obvious I feel like I've been setup for failure as the 10 seconds of silence go by almost as if he was hoping I wouldn't ask for the remaining parts that need to be included. No problem, I explain two more times what I need - looks like progress as I'm given what looks to be a whole system of parts needed. I get home and immediately realize there are bushings and washers missing. Oh no no no, was there any attempt to get me what I needed and when I thought I had explained exactly what I needed 3x over, I still ended up shorted of parts. Seriously, who operates like this? Are you people that comfortable in the times that you treat your customers this way. I'm staying away on principal. Go online and get parts elsewhere. Save yourself the trouble of this arrogant and IQ lacking staff. I bet if you had a real job that caused you to have to use logic, reasoning, and extreme trouble-shooting all while pleasing an idiotic customer in the worst case, you might be able to fake a smile after reality blow to your perceived "stressful" life. I have equipment that they do not endorse but yet they never fall short to help with me parts needed; if they don't have something that will work they order it for me! This is a old, established local mom and pop business. They don't try to compete with the internet (and some of their brands aren't available over the internet), so if you're looking for Home Depot prices on large equipment, forget it. I'm local and try to take as much of my business there primarily because they have a great parts department, superb service and folks who will explain things and work with you on problems - only like an old established mom and pop business can. To me that's better value than saving 50 bucks on a $4000 purchase. Others report shady dealings with the sales folks. Can't really comment on that because I haven't seen it and it sure isn't how the rest of the business operates. Do your homework and make your own choices, but these guys are my go to guys when it comes to Kubota service, and anything else (but John Deere) parts. read more

I have been a customer of Browning Equipment for over 10 years. I have never had any problems with them until now, and will probably never do business with their service department again or at least while Dale and Larry work for Browning. I dropped my tractor off for service, a tractor that I purchased from Browning and buy all of my parts for from them as well. I was told that if I brought it in they could look at it ina few days. My tractor sat out in the rain ( I drove by twice) for close to TWO WEEKS!!!! I knew going in that the cost would be somewhat expensive, but when I talked to Larry in the service department about a cheaper solution fist, he decided that they don't want to work on my Tractor all together. When I called Dale, he stated its Larry's department and he can make the decisions. I have never encountered such horrible customer service, all over a $245 dispute from over 10 years ago, and the fact that I wanted to try the cheaper alternative first. GO TO BYRD TRACTOR IN MANASSAS, they have more parts in stock through out the year anyway, and they actually care about the customer. Its unfortunate that after over 10 years of a relationship with Bobby in Service, one encounter with Larry and I am done giving my business to Browning. read more
