This is a great store to walk through just to observe the architecture and aesthetics. The design style is amazing. And then again, you might even find something that you don't necessarily associate with hunting or fishing. Maybe you've been thinking about buying everything you would need for a turkey frier at home. Or maybe there's a particular BBQ sauce you haven't been able to find elsewhere. Why not check out all their camping supplies and large selection of outdoor grills? Maybe you want to buy some clothes and start looking like an outdoors person. Just go check it out once. I think you'll be impressed.

The Northeastern fish tank has several native species found in our waters. Tons of apparel from T shirts to sweaters and winter coats boots you name it it's probably here. I joined their membership which rewarded me with a $20 off same day purchase. It ties into a credit card but with the $20 I got several lures for bass and bluegills.

Useful store; your one-stop shopping source for "Terrorist Hunting Permits", in case you're fresh…read moreout. As an habitue of Army-Navy stores dating back to when they actually sold Army-Navy surplus, I will say that the typical confederate-flag quotient present at such stores is dialed way down here, relatively. There's pretty much no surplus at all, and only a smattering of camouflage gear for the weekend warrior wannabes. There's also almost no hunting gear, which is often a staple of such places, and while there are some unit patches and a few bits of military memorabilia, it is not a prominent part of the business. What they do sell here, and lots of, is durable outer gear and work wear for people who need heavy duty clothing for their work. They have a great selection of boots, coats, winter gear, reflective garb, uniform pieces for some trades, and a variety of similar items, including a lot of Carhartt gear. They were a little lighter on out and out safety gear, but I suppose a lot of that is supplied on the job, and Lowe's across the street has the basics there for non-heavy-duty-work safety gear. The prices are pretty much list, and to my chagrin they tell me they're not restocking winter stuff (as of January 2!) anymore, but that will teach me to gear up for winter in advance next time. They still did have plenty of stuff, just not exactly what I was looking for in my size. I have to give them a bit of a downtick on that front, what with the lack of discount the availability is what drives me personally. That said, they seem to be all by themselves in this niche in this neck of the woods, so I'll be back. I'll just have to shop for the duck decoys and used 50 caliber shell casings elsewhere. TIP TIP TIP: it's hard to get to. The parking lot entrance is between the store and the gas station, and it's really only easy to get into going south on State/Central, just below where Balltown comes in. You are better off coming in on the side street and turning into the back of the parking lot. When you exit, if you go immediately left, you can line up for the Dunkin's drive-through right away, which seems like a truly valuable pairing of retail establishments.

They are loaded for bear right now with winter stock - vast arrays of skates, hockey gear, skis, snowboards, and accessories. They tend at this location to stock ONLY what is demanded for the season, so if you're selling something from an off-season or are looking for a bargain tennis racket in November, you will be disappointed. They do full-season rentals on equipment, which seems to me like a great way to wade into a new sport. Their buyback scheme is as follows: when you bring a used item in, they will price it. If you leave it on consignment to sell, you will get 50% of the price, when it sells. If you want to take trade-in credit right away, you get 40% of the value. If you want to get cash on the nose right away, you get 30% of the value. I looked at the range of conditions and availability for skates (which we were shopping for today) and the price range seemed quite decent for what they had. I waited for our skates to be sharpened, and observed them helping some skiing and snowboarding customers and handling a buy-back transaction, and they seemed very thorough, professional, and knowledgeable. The used prices aren't ultrabargains, but it's difficult to really find a specialty store that deals with used goods. You have your thrift stores, used car dealers, and other than that you're left with Craigslist and garage sales for the most part. So I think this is a pretty good niche, and for the ever-growing and changing-of-interest kids, a great great resource. They'll have to wow me on repeat visits for me to get up to the lofty five stars, but a promising four stars for now.
