When we walked in the door there were people leaving that smelled of fresh cigarette smoke. Through out the building it smelled of cigarette smoke. I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke and left stuffed up and had a headache. Wrong place for me to stay! read more

This quirky little hotel is a winner!! Lots of rustic decor added to make it feel like an old cabin. The lobby area was a fun place for guest to gather and visit about their travels. The breakfast is free and for this bargain price, you won't find this in a tourist city. Bagels, breads, pastries, oatmeal, burritos, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and all the condiments are available each morning. We loved the hot tub area w a large table to hang out and the scenery is adorable. I'm not sure if it's the owner or manager but she is always about watering flowers, cleaning tables and making sure everything is perfect. The rooms are spacious w a fridge and tv. Some rooms are pet friendly too, so we were able to bring our dog. I'm not sure I understand some other posts about furniture, breads or road noise. Spend more than $99 a night if you want a Hollywood Suite. This is a great family budget choice. If you want a high end buffet w carved beef and an omelet station, go pay $200 a night. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And there were open breads as well as sealed foods so if you are worried about Covid, you can have a sealed food choice. If the road bothers you, you literally saw this was on the main road online. Ask for a room in the back. With the AC humming, the road noise is not noticeable. We will definitely book again. We were travelling through Salida on our way to Telluride and needed a place to stay for the night. We arrived late and the receptionist was very nice. The hotel and our room was super clean and had an old western theme. The room was fine for a night, but the furniture was old and in my opinion needed to ve replaced. Also there was a lot of traffic noise due to the location of the hotel. read more

Browns was by far one of my favorite hotels throughout my whole Colorado trip. A lovely woman owns it and she was so friendly throughout my overnight stay. She gave some great suggestions. I absolutely loved the theme of the inn. Lots of wood, animal prints, super homey and friendly. The beds were super clean and perfectly comfy. The bathroom was spacious and there was even some free snacks for breakfast. The star of the show was the view from the room. A beautiful view of the mountains was just what I wanted after a long drive. It was just perfect overall - I highly recommend the Browns Canyon Inn if you're ever traveling through the area. read more

The place was really clean and price was really reasonable. However, we paid more for the "Mountain View" which wasn't worth it in my opinion. The property was fine but the owner was very unfriendly. There was a group of guests drinking coffee one morning and the owner came storming in right as breakfast ended to make sure to pour out a fresh pot of coffee that clearly other people were drinking and would have grabbed more. We had some friends stay at the Comfort Inn down the road and the staff sounded over the top nice. The owner of this hotel had a chip on his shoulder the whole time and didn't give a small town feel at all. Was more concerned with making his guests feel uncomfortable and not speaking a word to them when addressed. I wouldn't stay here again if I was looking for a family-friendly, warm environment. read more

Great hotel and best value in the Salida area. We stayed at Browns Canyon Inn on July 11, 2025 and really enjoyed our visit. It is one of the least expensive hotels in the area which makes it a great bargain if you plan on exploring the Salida/BV area. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and they provide an excellent breakfast in the morning. We greatly enjoyed the hot tub after climbing a 14er that day. Our stay was made even better based on the outstanding service provided by Kathy the hotel manager. She is a friendly, helpful woman who got us out of a jam based on a mistake we made with our reservation. We will definitely stay at the Browns Canyon Inn again and highly recommend it to other travelers. read more

I stayed here for the night during a work meeting. I'm so glad I stumbled upon it! The rooms were cozy and enjoyable. The breakfast was great. It had all of your traditional continental breakfast food, but then also fresh cut fruit, an oatmeal bar, frozen breakfast burritos/sandwiches, and freshly brewed coffee. We arrived in Salida late on a Thursday night, and very tired. We got a room down the road at Great Western. That was a nasty, *horrible* experience. We made a desperate call to Brown's Canyon Inn, and they happily offered to hold their last room for us, and because of our other experience, they allowed us to view and inspect the room prior to paying. The hotel was CLEAN, comfortable, and modern. The best part was that it cost us less than the trashy room we had issues with prior to coming here. The next morning, we ate the breakfast they had, which beats most other hotel breakfasts. We met the owner, Mark, and expressed our gratitude to him and let him know his employee, Kathy was sooo amazing and really turned our horrible experience into a great one. We will ONLY be coming here in the future when in town. 10/10, I highly recommend. read more

Clean rooms with cute decor. Great price that included a continental breakfast of oatmeal, fruit, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, coffee, toast, and bagels. The furniture is in good shape, I don't know why people have complained about it. We paid under $130 after tax for two queen beds in a nice clean hotel. We slept in the front of the hotel (street side) with the window open. I am a light sleeper and didn't find the street side to be noisy. Nice soft bed and good pillows that put me right to sleep and the 'road noise' did not wake me up. read more

This is quite a deal for $99 per night plus taxes. Room is clean, beds were surprisingly comfortable, and breakfast and good drip coffee is included. My only complaint is that a large group was allowed to take over the lobby both nights we were there and was quite loud and there wasn't really room to congregate if you were not part of their squad. NO ELEVATOR. That creepy kind of rustic mountain decor. Clean, decent, but bare bones. Mickey mouse breakfast. Despite their protestations of " we are doing this because of COVID," they offered open breads with communal butter/margarine and jellies. Hmm. Salida is an oddly high-priced destination, I suppose, because of the sport-centric location. Also, for some reason, this destination offers the dreaded round toilet. Why? We recently spent a long weekend in the Salida area and, disappointed we could not find a room in a downtown hotel, found Browns which is about 8 blocks south of town. Wonderful place, comfy rooms, clean, great bath/shower. Downstairs coffee and breakfast snacks free and fresh early every morning, plenty of parking. And it's 50 yards from the 50 Burger place that is awesome, beer, shakes and burgers - beat that! Then a short drive away is maybe the best breakfast spot in the USA, "Patio Pancakes" - get there early, they get jammed fast for their delicious and inexpensive food. What a quaint and welcoming hotel with impeccable service from the owners and gorgeous woodwork and art (all done by the husband! so talented!). The exterior was sweet with colorful potted flowers that automatically make you smile. The beautiful two-story lobby was a totally unexpected surprise - like a private mountain lodge or chalet. The rooms were pristine, clean, and decorated in a lovely mountain vibe. A two-bed with Mountain View room worked great for our family of four (two older teens and two parents). The grounds to the left of the hotel surrounding the parking lot were precious ... a pebble area with flowers begged one to go sit and meditate. The hot tub was similarly situated under a lovely trellis that was so inviting. Just a short drive took us to the gorgeous little riverside of downtown of Salida, where we enjoyed a yummy dinner at the Boat House overlooking the river.
