Stayed at the Circle R Motel this past weekend for a night with my husband and while the price for this accommodation is extremely reasonable, I would describe it as a place to sleep and that's about it. It's conveniently located close to trails, the lovely historic downtown and plenty of restaurant options. Check in was quick and easy and parking is no issue in the main lot. All the doors have keypad entry with the door code and WiFi password written down on a card that you return once you've finished your stay. When we first entered our room, it had a strong chemical smell of bleach or chlorine that wouldn't go away unless the windows were opened, but would come back just as strong once the windows were closed again. The room itself looked clean on the surface level, but the shower was a bit scary with some parts of the grout appearing black and the toilet seat had chips in the enamel. The in room Keurig coffee machine was dirty like it had never been cleaned. The hand soap and shower products were good. There was no screen on the bathroom window. The bed was comfortable with very non supportive pillows. My husband and I carry travel sheets as a personal preference when traveling, so I can't speak to how the bedsheets were but they seemed average. All in all, Circle R is a place to sleep with a beautiful mountain view and located in a great spot to explore all that Salida has to offer. Not sure if we would book here again, but it worked for a short one night stay.

They have an old school tandem bike! I love this decor

I absolutely adore this little retro gem in the middle of salida. Not only is it very affordable, it also is in a pretty central location, making it pretty easy to go anywhere in town with just a simple walk. Bikes are provided as well, HUGE perk! I travel occasionally with an elderly mom, so ground floor levels is also a huge key factor for me. You can park right in front of your room, and no awful stairs for my mom. The staff is very friendly and personable too, and for such an old motel, its in great shape. The hot tub is amazing, right under the stars. If you're not too picky and want to save a lot of money staying here, I recommend this motel.

Have stayed here many times in the past, but it is definitely a no go any more. DO NOT STAY HERE. The health hazards - mold in the shower, mold in the heater, no functioning heater on a 5 degree night. The fire hazard - space heater plugged into a power strip with a coffee pot, refrigerator and microwave, the frayed wiring The security hazard - coded door locks that are not changed with each guest. So anyone who has used your room can come in anytime. The hot tub which could not be unlocked by the staff, the TV that had white lines through it at all times. The list is huge. The new owners don't seem to care, and no one was interested in helping solve the issues.

After finding out my usual Airbnb wasn't renting out rooms this year I went on the hunt to find something comfy and affordable in my favorite ski/mountain biking town! After checking around I settled on what looked like a new, recently revamped motel. Really great find! Circle R is like if Old Route 66 and Elon Musk had a baby. Tons of vintage touches mixed with cool technology. Retro gas pumps that are electric charging stations. Mini fridge that looks like it was in my grandma's kitchen. The rooms are small but that doesn't bother me. There's bikes to use, a grill that's available and a hot tub that's on 24/7. The check in was easy and Covid safe. Conveniently located and priced well. My only criticism is the staff said breakfast (grab and go) would be available in the morning and at 7:30am when several guests, along with ourselves were leaving , the office was still closed. Overall, great experience. I think I found my new go-to overnight place in Salida!

We are staying at the Circle R on the way home from a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. The rooms are very spacious and the bed is very comfortable. It is a family owned motel and they were very helpful getting us situated, recommending dinner options and allowed us complimentary charging of our Chevy Volt, a first for us in our many travels with the Volt. We would gladly return to the Circle R, and Salida, Colorado is a great place to visit.

A good inexpensive retro motel. Clean and friendly. Walk to restaurants. Comfy mattress. Hot tub. What else could you want?

If you want your room to be serviced make sure you ask for it because they only service rooms upon demand. The breakfast is passable, but minimal. There will always be some sort of egg, some sort of sausage, and some sort of potato. Along with that the usual bread and bagels to toast, juices, yogurt, cold cereals, waffle maker. Biggest complaints have to do with the room water and heating / Cooling. The water pressure was good, but sometimes he would turn the water on and get scalding water for one minute and then get nothing but lukewarm water the entire rest of your shower. There really was no consistency and even if you did get the temperature just right it would probably change within a minute or two. Ended up taking a lot of warm showers not hot showers. The other issue has to do with the heating and cooling in the rooms. They are still using the kind of old style console Heating and Cooling system, and you have to actually choose whether to heat or cool so if you're in that weird window where sometimes you need to heat up sometimes you need to cool you have to manually do it. And even when you do set it it's very questionable as to whether the thermostat is accurate and whether you'll ever actually achieve the temperature you set.

Lucky for us, Silver Ridge had a two-queen room at a much lower rate. Whizzing by on US 50, it looks like a run of the mill old motel. Nope. Rooms have been renovated. Ours was clean and looked nice inside. What we liked: Full size fridge/freezer Hot tub: It's reserve-in-advance by room in 30 minute blocks. No smelly tweakers, couples making out, or loud kids to kill the buzz (and enough chemicals to kill all germs). Our roomy shower had thick glass doors, preferable to a curtain. The self-operated pancake machine in the breakfast area was a fave of our kiddos, who could watch the pancake on a conveyor belt. Just ok: Breakfast was hit or miss. Biscuits/gravy were my fave. Pancakes did the trick. Coffee was fine. However, my scrambled egg discs were cold and the sausage patty tasted too weird to eat. Fruit, milk, OJ, and standard Continental fare were included, too. Bonus: The recent model smart tv was loaded with apps, but you have to login with your own credentials. People forgot to log out of Disney, Prime, and Netflix. While we have each of these, it's nice to have access if you don't already have them. The Salida Aquatic Center sits across the road if you want some hot spring-fed waters. Overall, Silver Ridge combines nicer-than-expected accommodations at a lower price than nearby chains while maintaining the intimate feel and personal touch of a local business. I honestly didn't have high expectations, and if I'd known they were so welcoming of dogs, I would have been even more doubtful. How clean could a dog motel be? Well it was spotless. I was astounded. I don't know what the other reviewers are seeing when they say it's not clean, but this was not remotely our experience. And I promise, I am pretty picky, judgmental, and unforgiving about dirty establishments. Rooms were right about the size you expect for a motel. Not huge, but not cramped, by any means. I expected cheap finishes and supplies, but everything felt high quality and well appointed. Thick, soft towels; comfortable, medium-firm beds; good quality linens. Okay, the shower was a prefab shower kit, and not tiles. There's ya the one weakness I could spot. But the water was hot and the pressure was good so do with that what you will. We enjoyed a family dinner at the picnic tables with a nice mountain view, followed by a relaxing evening by the fire pit. Front desk staff, both on arrival and the next morning, were friendly and accomodating. Continental breakfast was super convenient, if not extensive, but it was a freebie on a very good room rate, so anyone should be ashamed if they complain about this. Who doesn't like toast, anyway? I cannot stress enough how surprised I was that a motel that not only welcomes--but actively celebrates!-- all things dog-related, could be this clean, quiet, and orderly. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again.
