We had a concert at UBC last night and went to Browns Crafthouse and it is the cooler younger cousin of Browns Social house lol. We literally made with 6 mins to the end of Happy Hour. The hostess confirmed my reservation but apparently they got a massive rush cuz everyone was going to the concert decided to go here. She seemed a little frazzled and asked me to give her a minute. She came back and told the other people waiting their table would be coming up shortly and took us to a long table that sat 8 or 10 people. I said to her I said hey. Look if you need to use the other side of the table please go right ahead and do so. I said I don't even care if someone sitting next to me. She thanked me graciously and then took a few moments to ask what we were up to tonight. We chatted for about a minute. Since we were pressed for time for happy hour she said she'd send the waitress over right away , she smiled and went on her happy way. We tried the Little nachos, OMG these are amazing and addictive. I also got the Smashburger Taco, winner! Another awesome dish. My only regret is I tried one and I should have done the two because my husband and daughter also thoroughly enjoyed it and pretty much consumed over half of it, lol Daughter had the spicy Korean barbecue chicken appetizer which was very good and my husband had the French dip which was different with the bacon jam. The beef was a thicker cut, I prefer a very thin. The au jus was excellent and so was the fries. The manager popped over and asked how everything was and I told her how much we enjoyed the nachos and she said on Sundays you can get the full size ($24) for the price of the little nachos ($17) and on Monday they also have a deal on the little nachos for $9. I was super impressed with the customer service not only from the hostess and the server, but the manager. I went up to the hostess stand thanked her in front of the manager, gave her a cash tip and told the manager how awesome she was considering the situation and how calm she remained. The manager introduced herself, shook my hand and thanked me. Unfortunately we live in Surrey otherwise I would make this a frequent go-to as I was so impressed with the service and the quality of the food. Looking forward to when we get to go back.

An utter disappointment to say the least. The service is as terrible(and we were sitting at the bar). The servers were nice but did not pay attention whatsoever. It was a busy Saturday night and maybe this is what I should expect going to a tap house in a college town? The whole atmosphere had a great feel and I could see how this place COULD be great, but the quality of the drinks and food that comes out of the kitchen is just not there. We ordered a ton of stuff. The smash burger tacos were decent and the wings weren't bad, a little soupy, but still good. The chicken poutine was terrible, the chicken was had as a rock and the gravy was very lacking. The presentation was nice, but the taste is what sells things. We are 2 bites out of it, that was it. The gyozas were pretty, but almost satisfactory, a bit on the undercooked side. The salad? My wife ate, but had to pull all of the mangoes out as they were far from ripe. Overall we spent a good 2 hours here hoping for something decent, but it didn't happen. The margaritas were very heavy on the syrup and I honestly could not tell that mine was a jalapeno pineapple margarita. All I can say is with a bill at almost $250 I would have hoped for a heck of a lot more. I've heard the other locations are light years ahead of this one....some management needs to spend some quality time with the employees here and get them up to speed. I wanted to love this place, but there was not a whole lot of positives other than the ambiance.

After our visit to the nearby Museum of Anthropology (MOA), we walked into the UBC campus to explore and find a place for Lunch. This is a big campus and there were a lot of people out and about on this warm July day. Based on our Yelp search, we chose this Browns Crafthouse, which is part of a larger regional restaurant chain. CONS - None! +/- - None PROS 1. We found the dining room to be spacious and with plenty of light. 2. Our booth was roomy, comfortable, and relatively quiet. 3. Gayle and I both enjoyed our adult beverage choices: Chardonnay for her and a pint of Hoyne's Dark Matter beer for me. 4. Avoiding Burger and Fries or Fish and Chips, Gayle and I went for one of the Bowls: Aburi Poke for her and 29 Dragon for me. Both were very tasty and more than enough food for Lunch. 5. Our server (from Alberta) was very pleasant and professional. Our order was taken promptly and the delivery from the Kitchen came in good time. This is one of those 5 star reviews that the combination of atmosphere, great company, comfortable seating, good food, and nice service all came together well.

Came here for a late night team social! The staff were super friendly and took everyone's drink orders first. I ordered an "Island Escape" but was told that the pineapple juice was out and that I could substitute it with OJ instead. I had already eaten prior to coming here so I was not super hungry. My group and I shared a few items and I thought that the food was alright. There isn't anything specific that I would recommend, but I think this is a good place to go for socials in you're in the UBC area.

Brown UBC has two new sandwiches "Fancy Tomato Sandwich" and "Florida Special". Let me be the first to tell you that if you like pesto then the Fancy Tomato Sandwich is a must try! The sourdough was toasted to perfection and had the right amount of pesto aioli and was packed with arugula and tomatoes FANCY TOMATO SANDWICH (V) - Pesto aioli, vine ripened tomatoes, jalapeño havarti, herb & padano vinaigrette, arugula, sourdough $19 DELUXE CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH - Smoked bacon, jalapeño havarti, lettuce, tomato, pickle, spicy mayo & special sauce $24 w/ Parmesan Fries CHAIN FAMOUS (3oz) $8.25 If you like cocktails or even if you don't you should definitely try their chain famous drink. It's a 10/10 drink. I know a lot of people don't like the service here but out of the last 6 times I visited them I only had 1 bad experience and that was likely because the server was relatively new and we were a group of 10. Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Food 5/5

The food, the ambience, the drinks it's all amazing!! We had a reservation for a group of 15 people and the staff were very accomodating to make sure we got comfortable seating for the group. We got two of their mimosa towers which were so delicious and definitely gave us that alcohol kick! Would highly recommend. Their Korean fried chicken, 29 Dragon and chicken ramen were some of the other favorites. Highly impressed with the food and service :)

Fun bar on campus - University of British Columbia. The waiter was nice, helpful, and participated in our jokes so that was cool. Drinks were tasty. Not very strong, but pretty cheap so no complaints there.

    California burger with yam fries

This place is so cute! We came in on a Sunday so it wasn't busy. The staff were very attentive. We ordered the California burger and the fried chicken Mac and cheese. The California burger was perfectly cooked. The guacamole on the burger had a distinct lime taste, which made it taste super refreshing on my palette. Sometimes Mac and cheese can be hit or miss, but this place definitely exceeded my expectations. The fried chicken Mac and cheese was my favorite, the cheese pull was what everyone should want in a Mac and cheese. The fried chicken had a great crunch and was super flavorful without being dry. Overall, I would definitely come back here to try more food or order the same meal again!

    Fried chicken poutine
    Tammy B.

Fried chicken poutine 5.47/10- the chicken was pretty dry and they charged us $4 for extra gravy. There wasn't that much gravy on the poutine. Honestly I liked the fries a lot. They could have put more chicken on the poutine

The truffle fries were also good at first, but they were heavily seasoned to the point where the salt and flavours became overwhelming after a while, and we couldn't finish them. The desserts, however, were the biggest disappointment. They are extremely small for the price, so keep that in mind before ordering a $15 dessert because most of them are essentially two bites. We tried all of them, and unfortunately most lacked flavour. FOREST ECHOES sounded like an interesting vegan dessert concept, but even as someone who genuinely enjoys vegan desserts, I found it almost inedible. The chestnut sponge cake was overly chewy, and combined with the vanilla crémeux created a strange gummy texture. The espresso sorbet had noticeable frozen water crystals, giving it an icy crunchy texture that tasted cheap rather than refined. This restaurant is included in the MICHELIN Guide Recommended selection. A few years ago, shortly after they were added to the guide, this used to be one of my favourite places in Vancouver. Their lemon tart was honestly one of the best desserts I had in the city. Unfortunately, that quality no longer seems to be there. The service also left a bad impression. After we finished eating, the server brought the bill without asking if we were ready and silently placed it on the table. Shortly after, she refilled our water bottle and dropped it loudly right in front of me. I checked the time and we had only been there for about an hour and a half. I completely understand table turnover, but the way this was handled felt passive aggressive and unnecessary, especially with many empty tables around us. About ten minutes later, the server returned holding the card machine even though we had not asked to pay yet, and simply stood there waiting. At that point we clearly felt pushed out. Our bill was over $200, and for that level of pricing I would expect much better service and much better food quality. I originally left this feedback on Google hoping management might address it or at least acknowledge the experience, but no one ever followed up. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I would not choose it again over other restaurants in Vancouver.

Every single visit has been consistently exceptional, which is rare and speaks volumes about the level of care and talent behind this place. It's also a beautiful space. The staff is incredible across the board, and the bar in particular deserves special recognition. The cocktails are absolutely fire -- beautifully crafted, balanced, creative, and memorable every single time. You can tell there is real skill and pride behind every drink that comes out. The chef is truly exceptional, with an obvious attention to every detail. The food is not only gorgeous to look at, but outstanding in flavor, execution, and presentation. Every dish feels thoughtful, elevated, and intentionally prepared. It is clear that excellence is the standard here, not the exception. The servers are attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming. Service always feels warm, professional, and seamless, which only adds to the overall experience. Wildlight is the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression long after you leave. It is mind-blowing in the best possible way. Run, don't walk, to this establishment. It is a true gem, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Their "brunch burger" is a major missed opportunity though... this really should have a fried egg on it. You could possibly add an egg from the ala carte section of the menu, but those cost $3, so you'd be looking at $27 for a burger and a half a cup of fried potatoes. That's insanely expensive. Currently the brunch burger has two small patties which have a tendency to overcook and become dry. My patties were well-done despite me asking for medium - don't even ask if the kitchen can't deliver. Not sure what makes that a brunch burger, but it would be much better if those two patties were combined into one, and a fried egg was added, while staying below a $24 price point expensive burgers in Vancouver. Other restaurants can do it.... Oh, the other disappointing thing is that the card reader defaults to tips at 18, 25, and 28%. Not cool - we already pay servers high wages in BC, tipping should be 10% if not eliminated altogether. 28%? No thanks!
