Browns social house is a fantastic place anytime to be to have the chill experience with delicious food. As soon as you enter, the vibe of the place feels like a food pub. Seating and lightning is nice and great hangout place to be with friends when you are hungry and need something crispy yummy but good quality. We ordered all from happy hour menu avocado and yam roll, crispy loaded nachos and fried cauliflower. The staff is very accomodating and nice and service is good. Each of the item was lip smacking and flavours were top notch. The good quality ingredients used is what stood out for me. I would highly recommend this place , can be a bit expensive if not happy hour. And the quantity is quite less as well for the price. But it compensates for ambience and experience. read more

We celebrated my friends birthday at Browns Socialhouse. We both had the Social Soda with absolut mandarin vodka, soda and bellini slush. Make that a double. This is very refreshing and light. We shared the Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad with crispy bacon, garlic croutons, aged parmesan and avocado dressing. We also shared Baja Fish Taco's with crispy cod, guacomole, cabbage slaw, pico de gallo, Chipotle aloli in a soft taco. We shared a complimentary House Made Dessert for a birthday treat a rich, decadent brownie with ice cream and walnuts. All the food was delicious and original with a Browns Socialhouse signature flavor. Our server Molly was attentive, friendly and respectful. Great customer service exceeded our expectations. Came here because I had good experiences at other Browns restaurants and wanted to try out the menu here. I got their Masala Cauliflower & Tofu Curry and Key Lime Pie for takeout. The curry sauce was rich and delicious, the inclusion of tomatoes was interesting, and I really liked the spicy yogurt drizzle. The mango chutney it came with was very flavourful, and the naan was also great. Lots of tofu and cauliflower in the curry. All of the components (curry, naan, rice, and chutney) were packaged separately so you could combine them as you wished. The pie was creamy and tart with a tasty coconut crust and generous dollop of whipped cream. The portion sizes for both were pretty good and the price was about average for bar food, so not a bad deal since, at least with what I got, the quality was better than typical bar food. Food here is super hit or miss. I've had some great burgers, but have also had a few that were overcooked and dry. Their brunch menu isn't great... their corned beef hash is made with sliced deli meat (not hashed, which is literally what defines the dish) and their hollandaise has a weird taste and is goopy like it's made from a powder containing cornstarch. They also have a terrible beer selection for a pub - a couple low-grade house branded beers, a couple options from the multinational Unibev, and a single rotating tap that is usually equally gross. Not a single local beer on draft. Kinda surpsinging to see such a dismal beer selection these days. read more

Went here for the first time last night with my parents. Very nice casual atmosphere. Tvs by the bar to watch football games too. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a 'social drink' and it was delicious. I can't remember exactly what was in it but there was soda with a splash of Bellini. Very tasty. I had the chicken bacon ranch burger on a brioche bun and it was sooooo good! I recommend it to anyone. Great neighbourhood pub! read more

Not a bad place on a rainy day when your friends who live in Dunbar won't drive very far; it's still better than what you'd find there. The place gets packed even on a rainy weekday from 4 pm onwards. The service was quite friendly and prompt. Although the parking clearly states that you can only park for 30 minutes, the server mentioned that you "just can't park there overnight." I was there for approx. 2 hours and it was fine. I didn't feel like eating anything, but I'm sure that it's the same as any Browns or Cats and would be fine, overall. The vibe was lively and welcomed the locals. I don't know of any other place in this vicinity suitable for when you just want a quick drink, so this is the place to go. read more

I have been coming to this location for almost 3 years now. There are some pros, and a couple cons. The good: I love the menu because after being a regular for so long, I have several items I can eat that I don't get tired of, like the hickory burger, the fish and chips with Cajun tartar sauce, the blackened chicken bowl and my all time fave, the affordable and mighty tasty Quesadilla. The service here is spot on, and I really appreciate the feeling of being known amongst the staff. They do a superb job of getting to know their clientele. Their attitude is all about making you feel at home. I feel like its somewhere that I am always welcome and the staff care about everyone. I had the chance to talk with the owner John a little while back and he bought me a drink and just expressed sincerely how happy he is to have regulars there and really went that extra mile to make me feel welcome. Now, I do have to voice my cons... The music.. It feels like the music hasn't ever changed here, if I come it 3 the same song plays.. And since I tend to be here around the same times.. I is very old.. I've asked about this but it turns out to be out of the franchise owners discretion. I hope their head office comes across this issue and figures out that a heavy overhaul of their playlist is in order. The only other thing I will grumble about is the parking.. Sometimes it's hard to get a decent spot nearby, but again, this isn't something that can change.. So I won't deduct much for this. All in all, it's a great little spot in the kits/Spanish banks area, probably one of the best spots in the neighbourhood. Keep up the good work, but please, dear lord, change the playlist! read more

Maybe I'm just getting old with kids, but any night out with just my wife seems to be great, so my judgment could be clouded. Food is decent and staff is very friendly. The restaurant has a modern interior with TVs strategically placed. Nothing sticks out as great and I don't crave anything here, but we haven't had a bad dish or experience. If this place was a closer to our home in Dunbar, I think it would be a good neighborhood bar (despite being a chain.) Went there yesterday. The servers were more concerned about bundling cutlery that serving, considering how quiet it was in there I'm surprised by the poor service. Two of us had burgers with fries, they were 'fine' , not 'good'; the fries weren't cold, the were about body-temperature. To summarize: the service was poor and the food ruined by bad attention to detail. On a side note: i visit the Browns on Upper Lonsdale more often and all that is bad with the W10 Browns is not it the case at Lonsdale (ie the manager at W10 needs to be fired). read more

I wanted to enjoy this as it's close to where my husband works, but unfortunately it didn't live up in any way. The drinks we ordered were made wrong multiple times. We were with 6 people, 5 whom were drinking and 1 who wasn't - typically every restaurant we go to we aren't charged for soda for the person who is the designated driver....she was charged for all 3 refills of her diet soda. Our burgers were greasy, yet the buns were stale and dry. Fries were dry. You have to pay extra if you want a salad instead of fries - I can't say I've ever experienced that in a restaurant, and we dine out multiple times a week in Vancouver. The entire menu is severely overpriced for what it is - $16 for quesadillas, and an extra 1.75 for salad - almost $20 for a very small portion of bread and cheese, and gross salad with little sustenance. We overheard the servers gossiping at the bar area at the very front of the restaurant about 2 overweight women who were eating in the restaurant - so very tacky. If you're going to insult customers or gossip among each other make sure it's in the back where people can't see and hear you. Sad to say that Browns is just a much worse version of Cactus Club / Moxies / Milestones with horrible service - at the same price point. read more

I came here last week for a Christmas lunch with my girlfriends and was disappointed. The cocktail I had tasted like it was just juice, and when I mentioned it to the server she just laughed and said there was a full shot in it. I'm 35 and have been drinking for over 15 years now and can tell what alcohol tastes like. I had the spicy chicken sandwich, which was greasy and not spicy at all. My friend had some kind of bowl that was supposed to have chicken in it, but she counted maybe 3 pieces in the whole meal. The yam fries that came with my burger were OK. Severely overpriced pub food describes Browns perfectly. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because there is free parking, we didn't have to wait to be seated and food was served quickly. read more

The one on West 10th & Alma has lovely staff, but the food and drink prices are also the reason we visit often. I went to Cats SocialHouse in Granville Island and then Browns later on in the evening and realized they were affiliated. Duh. So I ended up having to order from the exact same menu. At Cats, I had the fish tacos so I didn't order those again. Instead, opted for the nachos were were good. I liked the layout at this restaurant - with the bar in the middle, and people able to sit around it in a circle. The decor although pleasant, is completely forgettable; as is the service, menu options and food itself. The parking situation is quite tragic as well, sharing about 12 spaces with 5 other businesses. Why it received 2 stars instead of 1 is because on my way in I spotted a falafel place a couple of doors over which smelled REALLY good which I would like to try so my trip to Brown's wasn't a complete waste.
